IWeb 09 will not save my changes, but will not tell me why...

I worked on a iWeb page on my wife's login, but when I realized that I needed to move it to my account to publish it on MobileMe, I saved it in her public folder under her username. I logged off of her account then moved over to mine. I found the file and double clicked on it to open it (the .site file). I have made some changes and now try to save it only to have the computer tell me it cannot save it. No other explanation. What do I do? I have published the site, but I cannot save it. If I log out or exit the program, I will lose hours and hours of changes.

You'll have to close iWeb for this to work but you can try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If you don't want to close iWeb yet try publishing your site to a folder on your hard drive. See if that will jump start the save. If you can publish it locally but it still won't save you can close iWeb, work on a solution and then create new pages, open the local version in your browser and copy and paste photos and text into the new iWeb pages.

I find the Air easier to work with if I need a keyboard if, for no other reason, that's more compact to carry around than the iPad and a keyboard, even one that is part of an iPad case. I also often have to access data from one application when using another, and iOS is not at its best when having to do rapid application switching (Command-Tab switching is a lot faster than the double press home, scroll the icons at the bottom and swap).
As well, for editing I find the lack of sandboxing on OSX allows for efficiency enhancing utilities across applications, something you don't get in iOS. I understand the reason for that, but while more secure it also creates issues of its own in terms of usability in a number of situations.
I prefer the iPad for totally single application focused situations where little or no input is required. I use my iPad to hold copies of manuals when I'm doing a full day continuing education presentation for CPAs. A MacBook Aire can't really fill in very easily for that usage.
I see them each as tools appropriate for different jobs.

Does it show in the Purchased section for downloading ? Click on the Purchased under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage.
If not then have you tried logging out and back into the account ? If that doesn't work either then try contacting iTunes Support : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

IWeb fresh install not working. Why?

This is going to sound like a newbie issue, even though I've been a Machead for over 20 years...
I just bought and installed iLife '06. I went to play with iWeb and almost all the menus and buttons are grayed out. I can't create a new page by either the file menu or the plus-sign. In fact the ONLY live choice in the file menu is close.
I'm pretty sure I haven't missed any of the obvious things. Anybody seen this or have a hint?

Hi Rob,
I've heard of people reporting all of their menu choices all greyed out on preinstalled systems, but yours is the first I have heard of the problem occuring after installing from the iLife DVD. Interesting.
Try deleting the iWeb preferences file "com.apple.iWeb.plist" inside your User/yourname/Library/Preferences folder if it exists yet. Then try launching iWeb.
If there is no improvement, then reinstall iWeb from the iLife DVD and then update it to 1.1.1 using the update .dmg file from Apple directly (as opposed to using Software Update). Here it is...

Why would it?
Not sure what you are trying to do.
Your playlist, music,vids,etc are on your computer, NOT on Apples servers.
Your content will only be where you put it.

I have an item in a block with when_new_item_instance trigger, which is to clear the entire form.
but when i make changes in other block and coming back to this item it forces to save the changes.
but i dont want to save the changes , so how could i avoid this message, tried with message_level

The Save As allows me to save the changes, but the regular save will still not function. I seem to recall a similar issue with the last version of this document, with a similar number of links.

Doing the following wouldn't hurt either:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.

HELP! keynote will save as ppt but not open

My son created a project in keynote and it will save as ppt but not open, says there is a problem with the content and that it needs repair. choosing repair does nothing says part of file is missing?
His teachers classroom requires powerpoint.
Help!! he has worked so hard!

I just tried this in Photoshop CS3 myself. When I add a text layer, and choose Save, the Save As dialog box comes up and defaults to PSD as was described. But... that is just the default! Go ahead and choose JPEG from the Format pop-up menu down below the file list. JPEG is in there. So what happens to the layers? Notice when you choose JPEG, the Layers box grays out and the "As A Copy" box grays out and is checked (i.e. you cannot uncheck it). What is going on here is Photoshop will gladly make a JPEG of your layered file, but it will force the JPEG to be a copy, so as to not overwrite the original layered file. This is good, because your Photoshop file with its editable text layer is preserved, and you get a JPEG copy to put in iPhoto.
The second way is, instead of doing Save or Save As, choose File/Save for Web and Devices. This will also give you a JPEG choice, and also create an exported copy. Because this way makes files for the Web, they will be smaller than JPEGs from Save As because they will lack built-in previews (which you don't really need these days) and other extra metadata that take up space.
Either way you get a JPEG you can toss back into iPhoto.

What in the heck does all that mean, and why are they trying to behave like a Windows product or a Microsoft office product. I just don't get it.
Why is another application changing my documents? It's like they've created a virus within their own programs. It's a pain in the neck and makes no sense.

I am also having the issue of a warning saying "could not be auto-saved in Pages. The file has been changed in another application. I then hit "save anyway", the warning will go away for a time, sometimes minutes, sometimes hourr, but then the warming reapprears saying the same thing. This is not the case with all Pages documents but it is the case with many.

Try going to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change. Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address. You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

IWeb 09 will not publish

I just upgraded from iWeb 1.1.2 to iWeb 09. I then made a number of changes to my website. I have attempted to publish the site dozens of times since I made the changes. The site will not publish. The publishing process seems to be correct. I get the "site has been published message, but when I visit the site the changes are not there.
Has anyone out there had this problem?

Versions of iWeb previous to '08 use a domain.sites file and published to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb.
iWeb '08 converted the file format to domain.sites2 which was not successful for a lot of us. I ended up rebuilding all my sites. This version also dropped the iWeb folder on your iDisk and publishes to Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites as does iWeb '09.
Also .Mac was changed to MobileMe for some reason.
You will note these differences in the two URLs.
I have never tried to convert a site made in '06 to '09 without going through '08.
As I pointed out, the conversion is not perfect and you should deleted and redo the sections that don't publish correctly.
If I was in your situation, I would start afresh on a new, blank domain file and copy the content that you want to keep over from the published version of your old site to the new domain file..

I edit the presentation depending on the audience to which I am presenting.

If you add a new slide with just a text box (therefore a very small amount of data), to an existing presentation then save, Keynote will only save the new content to the file, it wont save pre-existing content as its already included in the file.
The time taken to "save" will be very much shorter than a "save as" when all of the existing content is saved again.
