IWeb 1.1.1. Sites Won't Open in iWeb 3.0.1

Can't seem to find an answer in this Forum to my problem. After transferring my Domains.sites file from iWeb 1.1.1 (Library/App Support) from my OS 10.4.11 Mac Mini to my Leopard Mini (10.5.8) iWeb 3.0.1 App Support location only the Domains.Sites2 files show up when I open iWeb 3.0.1. Both Domain site files now are located in the '09 iWeb App Support folder but why do the older Domain.sites files not show up in my iWeb 3.0.1 Site Organizer column? The older Domains' file shows the correct size based on all the Sites it contains but does not open when clicked (creates 'backup' when double-clicked). Any help you can offer as to how to actually import my iWeb 1.1.1 Domain files into iWeb 3.0.1 for editing and republishing would be very much appreciated.
Thank you!

Move all of the domain files out of your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to a folder on the Desktop and then copy the iWeb 1 domain file back to the iWeb folder. Then try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
If that doesn't help continue:
6 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
7 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
8 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
9 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
10 - launch iWeb and try again.
Lastly try Koeklin's fix from his post in this topic: Topic : can't open a domain.sites.2
Once you get the domain file functioning you can merge it with any of the other domain files into a new 3rd domain file with iWebSites.

    What system are you running?  Have you upgraded your system to Lion or Mt. Lion just before this began?  If so then take not of the following;
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Site won't open after recent update

I am working using an OLD version of iweb (1.1.2 I think) and after the most recent software update it will not open my existing pages any longer. All I get is the option to build new pages. I can find the files for the old ones, but they won't open. It used to ask me which domain I wanted to open, but now it just goes straight to opening the app and asking me to create a new one. Am I the only one with this problem??? If not, does anyone have any ideas? Help!! I really don't want to have to re-build the site from scratch again. Thanks.

  • IWeb crashed...now won't open.

Hi. I was building a site in iWeb and trying to link a Motion project to the site for download. This caused a crash of iWeb and when I tried restarting, I get the "unexpectedly quit" dialog before it even loads.
I'm sure since iWeb lists all the sites you have, I'm sure that it's crashing because of what caused it to crash in the first place. However, I can't get into the program to delete the work and start over.
I've tried deleting the preference file (and the Safe preference file), but it still won't load. Do I have to reinstall?
    Andy

I'm not sure how I'd do that. The site in question had not been published yet, if that helps. I had just started building it. What I think might have happened involved a Motion project file. You see, I was actually posting the Motion file to link to another question I had about that program in the Motion forum. I did an: Insert/Choose File and selected the Motion project file thinking it would create a hyperlink. Instead, iWeb opened a Quicktime window which contained a preview of the video I was creating in Motion. I didn't even know that a Motion project could be interpreted that way outside of Final Cut Pro.
Regardless, it worked for a few minutes while I figured out how to do what I was trying to do originally (create a hyperlink to download the file). Then it just shut off suddenly.
Since it was never published, how do I check for corrupt domain files?
    Thanks again.

  • The Domains.site2 file transferred from another mac won't open in iweb

Just transfered a Domains.site2 file from one mac to another in the applications support/iweb folder. But when I open iweb I get the error: can't read Domains.site2 file. Any thoughts on why this might be? It's a large file - over 2 gigs, transferred from an iMac running OX 10.5 to a macbook running OX 10.6
    Thanks!

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Sites2 file won't open in iWeb

My website is working on the web, but I can't open the file in iWeb to update it. The sites2 file is sitting like it should be in the iweb folder (along with my other website's site2 file which I CAN open!) but I just get "iWeb cannot open the file".
iWeb cannot open the BACKUP copy of the sites2 file either!!
In my sites file (in library) the website's folder and index and all is working fine.
Has anyone ever experienced this? Any suggestions? It seems to me I might have to just delete the site and start all over...
    thanks!

As Roddy has already said, you don't actually need several copies of iWeb to be able to open your domain files. All you need do is duplicate and back up the domain files and just go into iWeb and open these. It also keeps it a lot simpler if you do it this way.
The only way Fetch could have got hold of the incorrect file is if for some reason you placed it there by mistake. When you publish to a folder, iWeb creates only a folder with your site in it with the same name as in iWeb and a separate index.html file that you need to upload. How a domain file can get there too, I really don't know, unless you somehow uploaded from iWeb by accident and got a domain file there by mistake?
If something like this has happened, it sounds as if this domain file has somehow been published and if it has been published, this will be one very good reason that iWeb cannot open it. iWeb can't import, so if it is due to this then you are looking at re-building that site.
I would suggest that you ditch the multiple copies of iWeb and just copy the domain files instead and use one iWeb copy. This is likely to cause less confusion all round.

  • Site won't open in browsers

My fledgling site will not open in Safari, nor in Firefox.
At first I got a 404 error: "Not Found. The requested URL / was not found on this server."
[Below this message was a plain line, and below the line was another message.]
"Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80" [Their italics.]
I believed I resolved the problem when I discovered that my remote root-folder was incorrect; i.e., I was using a single forward slash "/" as the address instead of the correct address: "/www/", which I then corrected and uploaded to the server.
However when trying to access the site now, I get a 403 error: "Forbidden. You don't have permission to access / on this server." [Again, beneath the damning message was the line and beneath that:
    "Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80"
Question 1: Why am I getting these errors?
Question 2: What, if anything, does "Apache/2.2 Server at www.mousenstein.com Port 80" to do with it?
Note: My Web host is Your-Site.com.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My Remote Site root directory is entered as /www/. I entered it as /www/ rather than simply /www because I was directed to by Your-Site.com Support.
I don't think the syntax is particularly crucial.
    All they really say is
"When you connect via FTP most clients will log into the "root" or "/" directory. You must change to the "/www" directory before you start uploading.
Most FTP clients have a section that displays the remove server - when you first login you should see a "/www" directory; if you do, try double clicking it to put yourself into the www directory. If you don't see a www directory check to see if you're in it already.
Once you're in your www directory you should upload your files."
    http://accounts.your-site.com/support/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticlei d=109&nav=0
Provided you're pointing DW to the www directory on the remote site, the setup is correct.
Have you spoken to your host about why the site is not showing up?

  • My EKM Powershot Site won't open in Safari

I have an iMac.  It is running OS X Yosemite version 10.10.2.  I have an internet website with EKM Powershop.  It worked fine until a few weeks ago.  Then, at some times during the day it said I couldn't log in because of a problem with cookies but at other times it was ok.  Now I get the same message all the time and can't log in at all.  If I use Chrome it is ok but it is easier for my work if I have it open on both Safari and Chrome.  I haven't changed anything with my cookies and that doesn't seem to actually be the problem.  Can anyone help?

  • I can see my domain on the destop but it won't open in iweb

I had a 14 page website made in iweb on my Macbook air.  I filled up my computer with photos and then I can no longer open Iweb.  I've transferred all the photos and now can see the icon but when I try to open it it doesn't open.  I can also see my domain on the desktop.   Can anyone help?   Thanks, Lori

    We need more info:
    What system are your running?
How much free space do you have on your boot drive?
    In the meantime try this:
Try to open your domain file with the script that Cyclosaurus has provided us below  that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

  • My iWeb version 2.0.4 won't open.

I had just published my iWeb, and then used the iWeb SEO Tool.  When I tried to reopen iWeb a couple an hour or so later all I get are error reports stating that it is not responding.  I had a similar problem not long ago when I was still covered.  I don't remember how I was directed to fix it. Something about fonts?

Have a look at my posts here and see if it helps:

  • IWeb created website can no longer be opened by iWeb

I created a website with iWeb several years ago.  I am attempting to update that website but the iWeb "Open" option is no longer highlighted and therefore cannot be selected.  When I use finder, I tried using the "Open With" capability, but I get an error that the website cannot be opened by iWeb.  When I created the website, I had a MobileMe account (however the website is published to a standard hosted web site). I believe the iWeb version is a 2008 version.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

Do you have your domain.sites file for the site that you created?  It is normally located under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
The domain.sites file is where all the information about your site is stored and you need this file to be able to make any alterations to your site.
It does not matter at all where you have published your site of what version of iWeb you are using for that matter. iWeb is unable to open published files - one way street.  It only creates html files on publishing.
If you don't have your all important domain.sites files, then you'll have to re-build your site from scratch.

I make a photo webpage and put it in a separate site on my Idisk. Later, I decided I wanted that page on my main site, I dragged it there but it never appeared on my idisk. So, I opened my idisk, found the name.files & name>html and moved those to my main site. I can access them from the web but I cannot open that "name" in Iweb. I don't feel like starting over from square 1 but I would like to edit that photo webpage. Am I out of luck or what? Odd that Iweb does not have an "open" command.

iWeb doesn't open html files. You can only edit

you have any published pages or Sites they will
appear in the left side window pane.
Since you must have published to a "folder" and then
uploaded those files by dragging them to a folder in
your iDisk Sites folder (now moved) there is nothing
for iWeb to edit except your original.
You would have to edit, then publish to folder, then
drag to the location of your files in your iDisk. If
everything goes right you'll be prompted that an
older version of the files exist. Click OK to replace
    them.
I didn't publish to a folder but to my .mac idisk. However, I was playing games here. The page of interest does not appear on the left side with my other pages. I will keep playing and if all else fails, redo it and learn from experience. Thanks.

  • Iweb unexoectedly quit  now my sites won't open

    Hi
Please let me know how to get my sites back. Iweb unexpectedly quit then when relaunched it doesn't open my sites and gives no options .
    Thanks

As long as you saved your sites beforehand, then rather than opening iWeb directly, go and open your domain file instead.
You will find it under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites2. Just double click to open it and look under your User Library and not your System Library as iWeb is not there.

  • Site won't open

I am trying to open the following site:
    http://water.weather.gov/
I have used this site when I had my PC and ran Explorer and never had an issue.  It still will open from a PC.  When I try to open with Safari (I am new to Apple/Mac) it will not open!  It just sits and sits.  I might add that it opens fine with Safari from my iPhone.  Any thoughts?

No problems here opening that page.
Pages won't load sometimes due to Safari third party add ons or anti virus software..
Go to Safari / Preferences - Security. Deselect: Enable plug-ins
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try that site. If it opens, then try troubleshooting.
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues
If it's not plugins, check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.
