Iweb 1.1.2--everything is gray

Hi,
I'm trying to use iweb for the first time. I am unable to use the "+" to make a new page and everything under "file" is grayed out.
I searched through the forum for "grayed out" but found only posts from 2006 saying that downloading versions 1.1.1 was a fix for this problem. Is that still good information? Will I be able to download 1.1.1 over my version (which is 1.1.2)?

Unfortunately, this is a relatively common problem. Fortunately, it is usually easily fixed. There are a number of approaches, not all of them work for everyone, but to my knowledge everyone has been able to get one of them to work (just not always the same one).
They are outlined here.

Help! Can't edit tags, everything is grayed out.

Hey there.
I've recently got a new laptop and my iTunes library is located on an external hard drive. When I try to edit a single song (via "Get Info") I cannot change anything, everything is grayed out. However, it allows me to change the information when I select multiple songs (strange).
I thought it might be due to "read only" files, but they files are not "read only". It says I have full reading and writing permission, I can edit the tags through WinAmp, but why can't I edit tags through iTunes?
Not all the songs are grayed out though, the songs that I've recently ripped I can edit freely in iTunes.
I'm using the latest iTunes version 7.5 and Windows Vista.

The the music folder on the external drive was created on another computer, it is possible that Vista does not regard it as yours and has not granted write permission.

You need to check that your account has full control rights on your music folder.
ANother possiblity although unlikely, is that your music files have somehow been made read only, you can check this by looking at the properties for a problem file.

I ran into the same problem, I think that, If you tab on a song that is on your IPOD, and the song data is grayed-out, I think it means that the song is probably twice on your IPOD and that the iTunes directory can not edit THAT song data for two (or more) files @once. Check if this is the case, sinceI have the same problem,am looking for a way to have One and the same song in more playlists but only keep the song once on the IPOD.

HT3275 Tried to use TM for the first time. Can't get it to scroll back at all - everything is grayed out.

I can scroll through the dates. They highlight and expand when I scroll through them; some gray (local) and some magenta (on my backup disk).
But nothing at all happens when I click, right click, or double click on ANY earlier date. The back/forward arrows in the lower right are also grayed out and without function.
I tried it with and without the backup disk attached (just trying to recover a file that I goofed up this morning, so last night is fine.)
I did NOT set any files to be excluded from backup, except for the backup disk itself. The backup disk is FAR away from being loaded; 43 GB out of 500.
Any ideas?

OK, I may have figured out my problem, since jakeloveslucy steered me to the Time Machine Preferences panel.
I use my MacBook for business, and I travel a lot, so I have FileVault turned on, and I make a fresh backup last thing before each trip, just in case the MacBook gets lost, damaged or stolen. (Duh.)
When I went to the "Select Drive" part of the Preferences Panel and selected my Firewire external drive, it said:
"FileVault is turned on for one or more user accounts on this computer. Time Machine backs up home folders protected by FileVault only when the users who own those home folders are logged out.
You can’t browse or restore individual items of a home folder encrypted by FileVault in the Time Machine backup. To restore all files and folders from this type of backup, start up from a Mac OS X Install disc and select “Restore System From Backup” from the “Utilities” menu in the Installer."
As I read that, since I'm the only user of this machine, I can only back up when I'm logged out (?!), and I can only recover with a full backup, not individual files.
So Time Machine is useless if you use FileVault to protect your data? Please, someone, confirm or deny!

How do I view content in Design view once everything is grayed out?

I was building a web site. When I switched from horizontal view to vertical view I was no longer able to view content in design view. The entire page was grayed out. I'm also not able to view content in design view in other web sites too. How do I fix it?

Well, yes the rest of the phone works, but the sole reason I got it was to able to view these files. I had a Blackberry and I wanted a bigger screen. Work allowed me to choose the iPhone or the latest Galaxy phone. I chose the iPhone because I was told "it just works".
I know the Galaxy reads the .txt files because coworkers have it. If the iPhone wont allow me to read the file then it doesn't matter if "it just works" because it can't do what I need it to do.

Can't get music to play on ipad2 everything is grayed out

Can't get music to play.... It is downloaded but it's all grayed out.

Have the same problem! after the about the 10 time I tryed to sync my music, It finally worked an the song were finally not greyed out. Now after I rebooted my iPad I can not get the songs to play they are greyed out once again? Any idea?

Everything is grayed out

ok. Ive been using ichat with my aim screen name for about two years now. all of a sudden when i click ichat, it opens, but i see no window, no buddy list, nothing....the dock says its open, the bar at the top of the screen has all the menus for ichat, but nothing else....i go to click on preferences for ichat, and its grayed out....all i can do is open ichat, quit ichat, and select my available message. help me please

I'm also having this problem.
I have followed the instructions here, logged out of ichat and back in, then I get a page welcoming me to ichat AV. I press continue and it asks me to set up instant messaging. It will not accept my password (the same one I use to get in here) and so I reset the password. Still won't let me past that page because it says my password is wrong. Then I have to force quit to get out.
Can anyone help with simple instructions on how to sort this out?

When I open Messages on my Macbook Pro (OSX Mavericks 10.9.3) it opens all gray except the yellow minimize button. It doesn't let me start a new chat or access my preferences because everything is grayed out. How do I fix this?

I saw another chat about this and tried deleting the "com.apple.ichat.plist" file they suggested but it did not do anything. Any other ideas?

A simple solution...
After much troubleshooting, I have isolated the issue with the greyed out "Messages" app menu. The problem is due to the truetype font Apple Gothic missing which is required for the AppleID login window when you first launch Messages. You can just hit skip when the dialog box comes up, but until you do so the full messages menus are not available. So to fix, just drop AppleGothic.ttf in <bootdrive>/Library/Fonts and Messages 8.x should launch correctly. Apple should have really included this font in <bootdrive>/System/Library/Fonts since it is required for one of their Apps
Many people in the prepress or graphics arts fields will likely run into this issue when they customize fonts.

I've checked Mode and grayscale isn't checked. I'm still in RGB. I'm on a mac using Photoshop CS5 and, if it helps, I was trying to do a screen shot using cmd+shift+4 and must have hit the wrong key somewhere...

Hi, Mandi_Miles.
You may have switched Channels, with the Command + 3, 4 or 5 shortcut. Command + 2 should switch back to RGB, or you can check in your Channels panel. Make sure RGB is selected.

Lost all sound, everything grayed out

Could someone please help me? Ive been recording for the past few hours with no problems at all.. all of a sudden, all sound is gone.. My Track Info window, my keyboard, everything is grayed out now. I open other saved projects and they all play fine. Why is it with this particular project does my sound go out?

Cannot Open iWeb Website

Okay, I've never used the support forum before, so go easy on me...
Here's the deal...I built a website using iWeb for my business. I basically took a template and started used the features that come out of iWeb. No editing HTML, just doing everything from the front end.
I went to open iWeb this afternoon to upload some new content, and although the application opens, the UI doesn't startup. When I click on file, everything is "grayed out" except for "Set up Google Adsense" and "Page Layout," (See attached screenshot). I have restarted a few times, and the same thing happens every time. This website is pretty much my lifeline to making money, and it took me a while to build it, so if anyone knows how to help me recover it, I would greatly appreciate it!

Try the following;
1 - close iWeb.
2 - launch iPhoto and select a couple of photos.
3 - select the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photo page menu option.
4 - check iWeb to see if it opens as it should.
If it does't work at first give it a couple of more tries.

How can I partition an external hard drive with data in it? When I select the drive, the partition option is grayed out.

I am having a problem partitioning an external hard drive with data in it.
When I select the partition, everything is grayed out. I can't add a a partition for some reason. When I asked this question to other people, they told me to select my partition "io" to do it from there.
As you can see, I can't seem to partition it form there either. I ran the Verify Disk utility but the volume came out okay.
Any ideas as to what the problem would be?

Select the main hard drive entry (topmost one.) Click on the Partition tab. Shrink the existing partition by grabbing the sizing gadget in the bottom right corner and pushing up until you free up enough space for your second partition. Be sure you do not shrink to less than the space currently occupied by your files. Click on the Add[+] button to create a new partition in the free space. Click on the Apply button and wait until the partitioning is completed.

In photoshop cc timeline panel is grayed out

I have two simple text layers i want to animate with photoshop cc. when i open the timeline panel everything is grayed out.

Trouble uploading website using iWeb 09 FTP

Hello All,
About 2 years ago I used iWeb to upload my website. At the time I had to use Website Maestro for the FTP. Recently I bought a new iMac and used iWeb 09 to change several things on my website.
I viewed all the videos on how to upload your site using the iWeb FTP and I even used the "test connection" button and it said it was great. So I went ahead and uploaded my site and iWeb 09 confirmed that everything was fine, but it didn't change my website. The old pages were still there.
I phoned my web hosting company (Host Papa) and they said iWeb 09 uploads the new pages to a folder in their cpanel and that I would have to log in to the cpanel and move folders around. I tried this but inside Host Papa's cpanel it was all greek to me. I phoned their help line and the guy switched all the files for me and the new pages published fine.
My question is why can't iWeb publish my site without me having to log into their cpanel to change folders around? I noticed on the iWeb 09 publish site I had filled in one bit of information incorrectly. Where it said "Directory/Path" I typed in www/ Their help desk said I should have typed in /public_html/ If I did this would this make a difference? Would it publish directly without me having to go into their cpanel?

The old pages were still there.
Did you try clearing your browser's cache (CommandOptionE for Safari) and reloading the page? The site and index.html file probably should be uploaded to the public_html folder in your account.
I use WebSite Maestro and find it to be very good for uploading. You might try going back to that especially since iWeb's ftp client is posing problems. I would either try WSM or the free Cyberduck client.

ICloud items grayed out on MBP

Hi all-
Last night I had to change my password for iCloud as it was entered incorrectly too many times (think I was typing it wrong). I've successfully done that and able to login both online as well as iTunes store, etc.
However, today when I booted my MBP, I was first greeted with a bunch of keychain warnings. I was able to cancel out of all of those then enter the new iCloud password and those warnings are no longer popping up at boot.
My problem now is that, when I got to both "iCloud" and "Internet Accounts" in system preferences, everything is grayed out (the items I should be able to check). At the top of both of those screens there's a "enter password" button, which I hit. I then enter my new password. It accepts it, in both, yet the screen it takes me to...with Photos, Mail, Contacts, Calendars..." etc are all still grayed. I cannot adjust, tick any of the radio buttons, etc. Also, under my user icon on the left both "Account Details" and "Set Up Family" are also grayed, unavailable to click.
Can anyone help? There is an option to "sign out" which I'm tempted to do and try signing back in, but then, when looking into that option I've read that items in iCloud stored on the mac will be removed. I don't want to risk losing data from this mac. Or will it all just be brought back into the MBP from iCloud once I log back in? OS X Yosemite: If you sign out of iCloud
Is there anything else I should be doing? Or is the play here to Sign Out and sign back in? Thanks.

Now I have another issue, potentially. When trying to sign out, I use my Apple ID to log into my computer. So now, before I can log out, it's telling me that I'll need to set up a new password and that I won't be able to use my Apple ID password to sign into this computer. This is quite annoying. If I do this step, re-log back into iCloud, will I then be able to revert back, setting my MBP login screen to my iCloud password? That's how I wanted it...it was seamless, allowing the same login online as I use when logging into this machine.
