IWeb 1.1 - no slideshows

By following the information in this forum, I was finally able to publish my site. (The thing that seems to work is to allow it to continue to publish after you receive an error message that would suggest it has stopped, and then try republishing.) But on the photo pages I created in 1.1, the slideshow does not work. It works on the pages I created earlier. Has anyone else encountered this? Does any one know how to fix it? Thanks.

  • IWeb published to .mac- slideshow not working

The slideshow and 'click to enlarge' features are not working. The button is there, but nothing happens when I (or anyone) click on them. How do I activate these functions?
Also, I downloaded Moble Me, but I don't think I activated it because when I saw the features, they do not apply to me. (Will iPhones ever work with Verizon?) Do I need to activate it anyway? Is the fee the same as my .mac account? I was able to publish from iWeb to .mac, just . . . (see paragraph above).

Never mind . . . it didn't work yesterday, but is today for some reason.

  • IWeb sites with photo slideshows after migration from MobileMe

I raised this question in another discussion earlier today in response to another post in the MobileMe forum (no answer yet), but the recent confirmation about the death of MobileMe webhosting brings new urgency to this question for me, so I figured I'd post it in the iWeb forum.
I knew that if I migrated my iWeb sites to another host, I'd lose the counter, etc. I wasn't concerned about that, and don't have a blog or comments area that would be impacted. But, on my two sites (iWeb -->MobileMe), there are many pictures--and slideshows are an important part of those sites. Will the slideshow feature of iWeb be able to be used after I migrate to another host  such as hostexcellence or godaddy??? If that's true, then I really do have a problem. (I'm not talking about galleries from iPhoto to mobileme, but photo pages in iWeb sites.)
I've spent a ton of time over the last couple of years on those sites, and would hate to redo them. While there may be alternatives to the iWeb slideshow, it will take me quite a while to figure it out. (I never had a desire to learn how to do that--if I did, I wouldn't have needed iWeb.)
If anybody who uses the iWeb slideshow on a photo page and has their sites hosted somewhere other than MobileMe could let me know--I'd appreciate it. (Let me know which host you use please!) Thanks.
I guess related to this, if it's absolutely not going to work anymore, suggestions would be appreciated. Do I have to redo my sites for this? Is there an "iWeb like" program that has an easy to use slideshow for a photopage that would work? If so, I guess I have a year to redo my sites. )

Past experience has taught me not to rely on media player assets on third party servers. Yahoo pulling the plug on the EasyListener player is a case in point.
As OT has pointed out, the slideshow works on other servers but, according to Cyclosaurus, some necessary assets are on the Apple server.
Wouldn't it be reasonable to expect that Apple will make these assets available after the demise of MobileMe if enough people requested this?
The iWeb method of getting media onto websites leaves a lot to be desired and there are a lot of other ways to display music, movies and photos. The photo page is one of iWebs few triumphs but there are many alternative slideshows and banners.
Most of these methods require that assets are uploaded to, ideally, your own server but its not so difficult once you grasp the concept and the basics of FTP.
iWeb does provide two other methods of publishing apart from MobileMe. The built in FTP is just as quick, easy and convenient as publishing to MobileMe once you set it up.
Publishing to a local folder and uploading via an FTP app. allows you to add SEO tags and optimize the files for faster download.
A good FTP application makes the task of uploading media player assets very easy - drag and drop.

  • IWeb and Photo Album/Slideshows

My apologies if this topic has been done before. But I didn't find anything specific to answer my question here on the board.
For starters, I'm new to iWeb. Actually, aside from a .MAC account I'm new to web design period. I was wondering if someone could walk me through the process of adding a slideshow or photo album to my yet to be published iWeb site.
    Thanks in advance,

  • IWeb '08 2.02 slideshow icon

I recently upgraded to a new iMac, Leopard and the latest version of iWeb. I went through all the hoops of finding my old site (buried because the OS system hides the very necessary ".sites" extension after the words "Domain"! Wasn't that fun for all of us?) and now everything is up.
However, the slideshow has changed from the cute little icon I used to be able to move around the screen, to this hideous underlined Helvetica/Arial type which can not be moved. Is there any way to fix this?

You can change the icon in two ways:
    1) replace canvasplay(nn).png with your own image, you have to rename your image to canvasplay(nn).png. where (nn) is two-digit number depend on the template you use. this image is in your Media folder.
    2) same as #1 replace canvasplay(nn).png, but directly in iWeb.app/Contents/Resources folder. Not recommended, unless you know exactly what you are doing.
You can only move these icon with javascript in iweb2, see this thread:

  • Iweb '09 slideshow not working on website

I have created a photo page in iweb that includes a slideshow with downloading of pictures as an option. I used Fetch to put the webpage on my host. I've done this many times before and not had an issues. This time, the "play slideshow" button is visible, but it won't bring up the slideshow when clicked and the "download" is visible, but not clickable. Any suggestions?

Problem solved: reinstallation did the trick.

you can use iweb photos page for slideshow, iweb has its own slideshows.

  • Using Elements to create slideshow to post online via iweb....

Is this possible??? I am almost at my wits end trying to figure out a way to create a slideshow to post on my site via iweb that looks decent.  iweb does have a slideshow it is only enabled IF the viewer wants to enable it.  One other thing that I have tried is uploading to other sites and copying the html and putting it in a widget.  This works great but looks terrible. Is there another way or does anyone have any other options?  Thanks so much!!!!

How are you hosting your site, and which slideshow are you trying to do? Which version of elements?
If you mean the html slideshow in earlier versions of elements, you would need to upload that to a separate folder on your website and just link to it (you'll have to edit the html of the completed slideshow to give your visitors a way back to the main site). That's about as much as you can do.
I'd suggest looking into something like rapidweaver rather than beating your head against the wall trying to make this work, or using a photo hosting site and linking to the pics from your iweb page.

  • IWeb Localization

    Hello,
I am building a web site using iWeb (3.0.4) for someone in Germany. I would like to be able to change the text displayed on the slide show from "play slideshow" to whatever in German.
I went into the generated html for the page and found the statement:
                                                WriteLocalizedString('com-apple-iweb-widget-headercontrols', 'Play Slideshow');
Changing this is easy, but means changing the page every time I re-publish the site.
From the statement/function it would seem that apple have realized that there may be some localization necessary. Does anyone know where I can use or get at this feature. I use Lion in English and obviously don't want to change my entire system for the sake of one line on a web-page.
I also tried pasting the generated code with the changed text as a new html snippet, but that would not work for some reason. It just displayed a small empty box in iweb but nothing on the generated page.
    TIA

  • IWeb - looking for replacements for 'blog' & 'photos'

With a deep Sigh..., I am finally facing up to the fact that I must move my iWeb Websites to another hosting sight and deal with the loss of the intergrated blog & photo pages that come with iWeb.  I kept hoping for a miracle but now I must get on with it.  I would be grateful for advice from those who have dealt with this issue already.
My biggest concern is finding suitable replacements for the blog and photo galleries that can be embedded into iWeb having a matching 'look and feel'.
I have developed many robust (well of 50) websites with iWeb and they are active websites.   The websites have:
Custom layouts (i.e. not using the suppled defalut template)
Blog pages (used as 'News' entries)
    Photo pages
    iMovie
    HTML Snipits
Many have been designed for use with charity events and recieve quite a bit of traffic (see stats below) before and during the event.
As for the hosting - we will use GoDaddy or other Domain Provide with Hosting services.   We have already moved some of the more less complicated websites over.
I love iWeb (I know it has it's faults and I have probably pushed it to it's limits but it has handled it well).  I have tried looking at other products like Rapidweaver & Freeway Pro (Dreamweaver would be out of the question for me as I'm not a programmer - I can deal with some basic html code for snippets and such - but that's my limit).  My partner has begun looking at Wordpress.  However, the biggest drawback from what I've seen from these other products is that I can't duplicate the freedom and ease of designing a template/layout the way I want it.  I have tried to duplicate a website I have done in iWeb and I simply can't do it with these other products (at least without a great deal of work - if at all).
So, I wish to continue using iWeb for the main website desgin but desparately need to find good replacements for the blog and photo galleries to move over my existing websites.
    Please HELP!
This is my 1st time up on the forums so I do apologise if this has been dealt with before.  In my searches - I just haven't really found an answer which is why I'm submitting this question.
    Many thanks, MichelleSC
P.S. I have been an Apple user since Apple began and have always raved about their products.   This is the 1st time I have been frustration with Apple.  I really wish they would continue to develop iWeb and keep Mobileme.

Do you have visitors post comments to your blog or it is one the only includes your entries?  If it's the atter then you can continue to use the iWeb blog. If you currently have visitors comment on the entires you will have to move to a new blogging system, one of those suggested by Ethmoid and Jeff.
As for photo albums I've just run across a new site called ZangZig which offers albums similar to MobileMe galleries with most of it's features plus one that MMe didn't have.  The capability of selling your photos.
One convenient feature of it is that it can move/copy photos from your existing MMe galleries as well as your iPhoto library and other sources:
As for for iWeb can do after MMe is gone read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.  There's a link in the tutorial to download the file that one needs to be edited and replaced in existing slideshows and in the iWeb application for future slideshows. Once replaced in the application it's back to life as usual for iWeb.

  • Better slide show options iWeb 08 ?

In iWeb 06 I used to manipulate the slideshow assets folder to use slideshows that were better (in my opinion) than the standard iWeb option. Can someone point me in the direction to do this in iWeb 08?
I really do not like how small the slideshow images are (even if I click the "full screen" option) in iWeb 08... it makes the whole slideshow full screen but the images are still relatively tiny in the middle of the screen. On a 23" monitor this is not a big deal but on a laptop or similar the images are way too small.
I like all the other aspects of the iWeb 08 slideshow but wish the photos would render in full screen or at least larger than the current version...
    help!!!!
    thanks...

iweb photos page and slideshow is javascript/AJAX driven, so no longer can you manipulate Slideshow_assets folder.
But that does not mean it is impossible, but you need to know javascript, DOM, iweb generated code and slideshow code (they are all different).
I have been working on a few of them:
    http://hdl.50webs.com/Lytebox/Photos.html
    http://hdl.50webs.com/FancyZoom1/Photos.html
    http://hdl.50webs.com/Slideshow2/Photos.html
the above are all javascript/AJAX, I intentionally left the 'Play Slideshow' so you can see it's iweb2 photos page and am working on Couloir slideshow (yup, Couloir)
Note: easy with those slideshows, they need time to process... because they take two pass to process, first iweb javascript, second my javascript. So wait a bit for thing to settle.

  • I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

I have added photos to a portfolio website I'm building and a lot of them look VERY grainy when you click on them. They are nice clean large files and can print bat high res way over 16" x 20" so whats happened to them in iWeb?

When you are dealing with websites, image file size is a trade off between quality and download speed. There's not a lot of point to having high quality images if they take too long to download in the browser.
Nowadays we also have to consider the device that the end user is viewing the images on. An image that is optimized for viewing on a large screen is total overkill and unsuitable for those using mobile devices.
Really we should be supplying different versions of media files for different devices using @media rules in the stylesheet but this is rather outside of the scope of iWeb. If you use the built in image optimizer and the iWeb Photo template with slideshow, the application will optimize the images according to the way in which you set this function in preferences and the slideshow size will be automatically reduced for those viewing it on smaller screens.
If you want to give your viewers the opportunity to view large, high quality images, you can supply them as a download.

  • Exporting iPhoto SlideShow

I am running iPhoto 6.0.4. Tried to export a slide show using File->Export. The only option seems to be a .mov file, which results in a huge file. I would eventually like to use iWeb to publish the slideshow to .Mac. The .mov file is too huge and I'd need to run it through iMovie just to get the QuickTime movie. In some cases, I also want to display the thumb nails.
If I worked directly from an album, I have more choices, including photos with different sizes under File, and QuickTime Movie under Movie. Is there any way for me to get the same flexibility from Slideshow?
    Thanks!

    Jon:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not directly from the Slideshow function. But if you have Quicktime Pro you can open the resulting movie file in it and then change to a variety of sizes and types for posting on the web. QTP is, IMO, a good value.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
