IWeb 1.1 out, Files names are still too long

Problem was brought up to Apple about length of files names created automatically by iWeb back in January and a new update comes out that doesn't address this. Many Web servers can't deal with the 255 character limit of unix and have a much lower limit on filenames. There is no justifiable reason why filenames can't be under 30 characters. Server is Webstar 4.4.
A simple fix for Apple simply goes unfixed in the new update... shame on you Apple. iWeb remains totally unusable for many of us still.

You can keep sending feedback, but personally I doubt Apple is going to make any effort to accomodate old technology. Probably best to find a more modern host or just use a different app.

"Copying Music Failed - File name invalid or too long." HELP!

I desperately need to consolidate my music before my computer says goodbye for all eternity. It seems I can't consolidate my music because apparently, the file name is too long or invalid. I even got this program that was supposed to help me seek out the ones with too long file names. So I deleted those songs and it still won't work. And after I got the new iTunes the other day, I set it to add all new songs automatically into the iTunes Music Folder. However, it seems my iTunes is a little screwed up, because whenever I add a song with a long file name, it automatically shortens it down. For example if I add a song with the named "20th Century Masters - The Millennium Collection: The Best of Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles - Ooo, Baby Baby", which is obviously a very long name, it will shorten it down to about the first 4 or 5 words. I naturally shorten it down to just "Ooo, Baby Baby" myself, but I'm thinkin this whole error may have something to do with the fact that the library won't consolidate.
I'm in desperate need of help here - come to my rescue, please!

Well, aren't you lucky I signed in tonight? Sometimes you just have to be patient and wait until a person who might know an answer shows up.
I have had problems with Consolidate too, and getting that stupid error message when the file name was not too long.
The consolidate function starts copying things over by Date Added, with the older ones getting copied first. First in, first out.
What I finally had to do was look in Windows Explorer for the target (new) drive and see the last file that was successfully copied. Let's call it Carole King.
Then I went into iTunes and sorted by Date Added to see the file just AFTER the Carole King file. In my case, it was La Bohème and iTunes had filed it in the Compilations folder. I selected all the tracks and unchecked the Compilations box. This made iTunes move it out of the Compilations folder
The Consolidate worked after I moved that file.

To re-install iPhoto
1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5: Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows: In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
/var/db/receipts/
2c: on 10.7 they're at
/private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store you can find it in your Purchases List.

I've just gone to organise my iTunes libary and have all the files in the same folder, (consolidate) and it's said that it's failed and the file name is invalid or too long?
What can I do to fix this so I can transfer all my data to my new computer with ease?

My file names have disappeared in grid view. Thery have been replaced with a dark bar along the bottom of the previews. If I toggle using the command u it hide the bar but I still can't see the file name. In list view all the file names are OK.

The dark bar is caused by the option "Show metadata below image".
Check the settings for the metadata overlays in Grid view (basic and expanded) by clicking the little "badge" icon below the Browser and selecting "Edit". Is the filename still enabled in the list? And in a high enough position to have precedence for other metadata tags, if the space does not suffice to show all selected tags?

When looking at the empty screen with the name of my former playlist on top, if I tap the edit button on the phone, tap the + button to add a 'song' to the playlist, and then tap 'Done' without adding anything, I can see all my videos in the playlist with the red minus symbol next to each of them. But as soon as I tap 'Done' again they all disappear!
I saw on another forum that someone has had the same problem but fixed it by, and I quote
"If you go to Get Info and change the Media Kind from Movie to Music Video under the Options tab, they all now appear in the playlists!"
I'm happy this worked for him, but when I tap "File" in itunes, the "Get info" field is greyed out, so I can't test the solution proposed.
Any ideas?

Scanning a document but only offer in file names are image options

I am trying to scan a document but my only options in the file names are image file names (.jpeg, bitmat etc...) I tried running the HP fix I found in another forum answer, downloaded and ran it, ran a test scan and saw all sorts of options including pdf. My test scan ran great, and my document scanned in as a .pdf. I then tried to scan again but again my only options were as an image file names. I restarted my PC but still the same issue. I am running windows XP.

Are these "thousands of files" in an iTunes library that simply cannot be found?
If so, assuming you know exactly where they are, hold the "Option" key while opening iTunes from your dock. You will then be given a "Choose Library" option. Choose it and point to your library.

How to position the cursor in File Name area in JFileChooser??

Hi,
I have been trying to position the cursor directly to filename area in JFileChooser. But no success.
It positions itself at the directory path by default.
How should I achieve this?
The problem is that I do not know the name of this
component used for File Name area hence difficult to
use "requestFocus() or getFocus()" like methods.

Somewhere I saw a tip that explained how to do it, but I didn't keep a link to it. But basically it's like this: JFileChooser is a Container, so getComponent(n) will return the n-th component in the JFileChooser. One of them is the one you want to give the focus to, and I expect it will be a JTextField. A little experimentation should tell you which index you need to use.

What file name, are old emails saved under in backups?

Time Machine, does not seem to operate properly, past the date when I clean installed Yosemite. My files are all there, but I can only find them by going into my drive, and either searching for the file in Time Machine, or searching for it in my backup drive. I cannot restore a mail file, by opening mail, and time machine. It works fine up until the date, when I installed Yosemite. I have done 2 different completely clean installs, and one using migration assistant, wt a multitude of problems. I am done wt doing that. My iMac is finally running smoothly, and I have managed to migrate everything back into my iMac, except for my old emails. I'm pretty sure that I could restore my emails, as long as I knew where there there supposed to be stored on my iMac. I could basically restore them, by either looking in my backup drive where they are before I installed Yosemite. What file name, are old Maverick emails saved under in backups?

This MIGHT be include all the files you need, but there might also be Preferences files needed from another directory.
Also, I migrated my data from an older OS X version (10.6.8) where the app was called Address Book. On brand new systems, it is called Contacts, and the correct directory might be named Contacts.
NOTE: Be sure to replace Macintosh HD below with the actual hard drive name if not Macintosh HD, and username below with the actual user's name...
Transfer all the files from Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/
That WILL INCLUDE each of these three subdirectories where the necessary files and data are stored:
Macintosh HD/Users/username/Library/Application Support/AddressBook/images

Master database logical file names are different - Please Help!

Today I noticed that one of the server in our environment,
when i run
SELECT *
FROM sys.database_files
i got results
data_space_id name
1 master2
0 master_Log2
Please note logical name of the master database files.
But, in SSMS if i right click and choose properties for master database, it shows logical file names are master, mastlog.
How can this be happened? How can i fix this issue and make it both same names for master database?
Please help!

Its nothing to worry about may be master was restored from backup which had logical file name as master2

Install ClamXav and run a scan with that. It should pick up any trojans.
