IWeb 1.1 really shrunk my "publish folder's" size...good...

After updating iWeb and republishing my 5 sites (non .Mac) my publish folder shrink from around 98 MB to 58 MB.
Umm, that's pretty darn good. It really changed how it handled jpegs w/ reflection effects added (.png's) for example when posted online.
However all was not rosie:
I followed this article (apple doc) that was posted here: " iWeb 1.1: Changing your Domain file default location", and had sites it separate folders (a new feature --but I think it has bugs) --everything worked as advertised until...I published. Things began acting weird, my 2nd site wouldn't respond to new copy changes created in iWeb when uploaded to go live, some site folders actually INCREASED in size. It was just weird.
I said, "Screw this.", replaced my "domains" w/ the old single one from iWeb 1.0.1 (saved w/ advice from here, before updating), republished all the sites (w/ some editing, again, that I could get to work) and kept them all in iWeb at once, like the older program methodology. Sure it takes longer, and that's why iWeb made the change, but still the new method wasn't working well so I went back --- anyway NOW I saw the changes across the board to all sites and how jpeg w/ effects were handled on the web when published, etc. And across the board each published site folder shrunk SIGNIFICANTLY in size --again , from approx. 98 MB to 58 MB (I guess this was do to me using so many effects in 1.0.1).
Onward and upwards, as I assume the kinks will be worked out shortly --and they were weird for me until I went back to the "old way" of using the main "domain" file, and publishing method to a non .Mac account.

Hi Guillaume!
Welcome to the Apple iWeb Discussion Forums!

- Is it possible to put back the website from the folder to Iweb to make some changes on the website?
There is no way to get published files (html files) back into iWeb. The only thing that can be done is rebuild those pages in iWeb and copy&paste the content from the published pages into iWeb.
- Because I bought Iweb 08, will it change something about the websites I made with Iweb 06? I mean...I hope it won't delete all the websites I made! Could you tell me more please?
First thing to do is make a backup of the domain file where iWeb stores its files
http://alyeska.altervista.org/en/iWebBackupWebsite.html
Second update your iWeb to the latest version (2.0.3, using the software updater)
Third double-click the domain file to open iWeb and you'll be promted to update the domain.sites (iWeb '06) to domain.sites2 (iWeb '08)
Now your pages should appear in the left navigation menu where iWeb lists your pages.
Some people report that some things are out of place in iWeb '08 after upgrading (textbox moving out of place, images moving out of place) however that's not always the case.
Just have a quick look at your pages before publishing them...
And if you didn't understand me well (in that case I feel terribly sorry) please feel free to tell it to me, and I'll be glad to try to explain myself in a better way!
Your english is excellent, I'm a "foreigner" too and there are lots more here... Thus don't mind about mistakes

  • How to open a "published folder"?

I've just upgraded to 08, I've created a site for work so am not using my .mac account. I published to a folder on my desktop,no problem, uploaded to the web no problem. It all works, EXCEPT. when I restarted iweb it asked me for a domain name as as none was associated or something. So I pointed it towards where it was orginally on idisk. NOW when i open iweb, my site is no longer complete, all the photo's are missing from the albums.
So, figuring i've done something wrong, is it possible to open my published folder in iweb?
And separately, can someone point me towards a tutorial on "Domains" I need to have a number and don't know how to manage them (or really what the difference between a "site" and a "domain")

iWeb stores the data in a Domain.sites2 file whose default location is shown here....

To download your pages from MobileMe simply mount your iDisk.
Then navigate to the Web > Sites folder where the pages are.
You can't do anything with them however, since iWeb cannot import them. But it's nice to know that you can download them.
You need the domain.sites2 files, iWeb uses to store its assets. Perhaps you have a backup?
See this page for pictures and movies to learn how to use the domain file :

  • Photo album does not appear on the web but does in a published folder

    **** everyone,
My problem is the following: I started to create little webpage with iweb. At the moment it just consist of a photo gallery, one blog entry and one video. To test it I published itto a folder on my hardisk and the website worked perfectly. So I uploaded it to my server (I have no .mac account). When opening the site over the internet the start page looks perfect, as well as the video page but on the album page the album doeas not appear!!!
The URL is: www.voyage64.com just click on "Photoalben" (it´s a german page) and there is just nothing, There should be an album which also appears in the page published to a folder on my harddrive.
Another thing that does not work is the blog. When you enter "blog" you will see the list with one entry listed, that works fine on the web but if you click on that entry it tells you that the file was not found on the server but it is there, this also works on the published folder on my hardrive. The confusing thing is: I´ve another website on my server with a blog with more entries that just works fine.
Maybe it´s something with the RSS because I tested other stuff and whenever the RSS logo is visible in the adressfield in the browser something does not work. I actually don´t need any of that RSS stuff but there is no way to disable that.
Maybe it´s a fault with my server but I´m not a specialist in stuff like that.
So thanks in advance for your replies,
    kind regards,
    David

I followed the topic concerning the Firefox photoalbum problem but I´m using Safari and the albums will not show up on the web !!!! I also exchanged the detailview and headercontrol *js which worked fine for opening the photoalbum on my harddisk with firefox. But when its uploaded to the server it won´t display and that in Safari!!!! On the published folder on my harddisk everything works fine
    www.voyage64.com
just cklick on "photoalben" no album apears. Does anyone have the same problem with safari ???
    regards,

  • MP3 files not showing up in published folder

    Hi everyone,
A newbie question here: I have completed my site and published it to a folder, for later uploading to a webhost. I took a peek in my published folder and could not find any of the MP3 files that I had put on to my site. While I was creating the site, I dragged the MP3 files from iTunes to iWeb. Everything played just fine. But I'm figuring if I don't see any MP3 files in the published folder, they're not there.
    Suggestions?
    Thanks!

Oy -- never mind. I found the files. See, I am a newbie...

Can I move my iWeb from mac-mini to my new macbook pro ? iLife 11 does not have iWeb and I really want to use it to update my website on my new macbook Pro instead of Mac mini

There is no license required for iWeb.  Just do a Wyodor suggested and you'll be ready to go. If you're running Lion however, consider the following:
In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • No "Open" command in iWeb - how do I open old site folder?

I have a folder on my desktop I published a site to, but it doesn't show up in the iWeb Site Organizer pane. I don't remember deleting it but I guess I did. The site itself is up and running on the web, but I can no longer edit it b/c I can't open it in iWeb. Any advice? TIA
    Dual 1.8 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.25 GB RAM

If you have deleted your website from within iWeb (even by accident or by some other act of nature!) I'm afraid that it has been erased from the Domain file where iWeb stored all information about the website. There is no way to recover the website and no way to import the published folder that you have on your desktop, unfortunately. It's just not something iWeb is capable of doing since it is a one-way HTML generator.
Since the site is online, you can maintain your web presence for the time being. But your only choice right now is to start from square one and recreate your site within iWeb. But you're work is not completely lost. You still have all the little graphics and other media files from your site inside the published folder that you can drag out and the drag right back into iWeb as your recreate your site. You can also use the online site for reference as you rebuild.
In the future, it may be best to keep regular backups of your Domain file. This file is where iWeb stores all the information about your website. It is located in its default location on your hard drive/Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ folder pathway.
Good luck to you while you get back on your feet!

  • Delete published folder

I was wondering if I publish my iweb to folder, and than upload to godaddy, If it doesn't work right can I delete the published folder and continue to fix problems in iweb itself? and again publish to folder and start process again until I fix bugs? Thanks Mark

That's correct. iWeb keeps all of the components of the site in it's Domain.sites file (you should backup frequently with varkgirl's application). You can keep making changes and testing all you want.
If the site behaves the same when run from the server as it does when run from the Desktop, just run it from the Desktop to debug it and then upload when it runs to your satisfaction. Will save some time in debugging.
    Do you Twango?

  • Including a linked document in the Publish folder

I've been following discussions trying to understand the best way to include links to documents (Word, pdfs, etc.) and websites within my module.
With websites it seems simple, just enter the url and specifiy new window in the controls so users can get back from the website to the module. But with documents I'm confused. I read that I need to make sure the document is placed in the Publish folder so the link remains valid when the project is imported into an LMS. How do I make sure the document is placed in the Publish folder?
Do I import the document into the Captivate project? Do I Publish and then go back and move the document into the published folder?
I know this is likely a simple thing but never having done it I'm uncertain how to proceed and need help - thanks,
    Dan

    Hi Dan
Unfortunately I can't tell you how this is done if an LMS is in the picture. Perhaps Rod or Lilybiri or another author that plays in the LMS arena can shed light there.
But if you are simply placing the Captivate in a central location for folks to access, you just copy the document to the same folder. If you understand how to create relative addressing, you can establish a relative link, but it's generally easiest to simply ensure the document is in the same folder as the Captivate movie.
    Cheers... Rick

  • How to control photo sort order in flickr publish folder

Using LR 5.3 and trying to control the sort order of photos in a Publish folder (Flickr). When I drag-and-drop the photos, they never end up in the location indicated by  the dark black bar that appears under the mouse cursor. Usually appear within 5 or 6 places of the dropped location, but sometimes up to 20 places away from the dropped location. Futzing with the location sometimes gets them closer, but not always. It's very frustrating. I've seen comments about certain restrictions for manual sorting (e.g. not feasible in Smart Collections), but no specific reference to sorting in a Publish service. Is there a way to put the photos into the exact order that I want in a Flickr Publish folder? (Note: drag and drop does not work correctly... that's the problem).

Click the Action icon > show view options > Arrange by none > sort by name.

  • Published folder migration from LR4 to LR5

I have a published folder with about 400 photos in LR4 that I would like to bring over to LR5. How is this done?

OK, before trying to upgrade again, do a File > Open Catalog and point to the upgraded catalogue - it will usually have a -2 as below.
Does this catalogue show the published folder? If so, job done.
What I suspect is that if you did an Import from Another Catalog, LR would have needed to make an upgraded catalogue. It would then bring over the photos - but without the published folder data. Now, when you try to upgrade properly, that upgraded catalogue is still sitting next to your Lr4 catalogue and is causing the error message. But it is actually a perfectly-good Lr5 catalogue, the same as if you'd done an upgrade rather than import.
Once you're back on track, I would recommend cleaning up your catalogues in Explorer/Finder and becoming more familiar with what they are. For instance, I'd rename 4test-2.lrcat as Lr5 Master.lrcat and 4test-2 Previews.lrdata as Lr5 Master Previews.lrdata.

  • How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?

How do you purge/compress/shrink the iPhoto11 folder/file size?
I have been using iPhoto since iLife'05 and have always upgraded with each iteration of iLife. Without exception, I had just recently upgraded to iPhoto'11 when iLife'11 came out. Because I have used iPhoto to store all my photos and videos taken over the last 5 years or so, my iPhoto folder/file has become bigger and bigger over time and so I moved it to an external hard-drive. My main iPhoto'11 folder/file has 14,367 photos, 995 videos and is indicated to be 83 GB by iPhoto'11. But "Get Info" in Finder reports a whopping 130 GB.
I started to think that this is getting a little crazy and I had wanted to better manage my photo collection, so I decided to "divide and conquer" this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file into several smaller, more manageable sized ones. So I made a duplicate copy of this gigantic iPhoto'11 folder/file onto another external hard-drive, fire-up iPhoto'11 again to delete away almost 80% of the photos and 90% of the videos. Now, my "slimmed-down" iPhoto folder/file has 3,000 photos, 75 videos and is indicated to be 6.8 GB by iPhoto'11. But despite the new "slimmed-down" status, the "Get Info" in Finder reports a still very huge 44 GB. Where did all those bulk come from? I have emptied both the iPhoto'11 Trash Can and Mac OS X Trash Can and these steps did not seemed to change anything at all.
Therefore, I wanted to see what the "Get Info" in Finder will report if I were to delete 99.99% of the photos and video to leave just one (1) photo in iPhoto'11? Guess what is the result? My "One Photo experimental" iPhoto folder/file has 1 photo, 0 videos and is indicated to be 2 MB by iPhoto'11 yet the "Get Info" in Finder reports a mysterious 36.3 GB. There must be something hiding inside!
    Help! What can I do?

I went on to try trashing away some of the folders and files inside and found that I could actually do it quite neatly if I go by the year which the photos are taken. After a lot of trial and error working on duplicate copy of my iPhoto '11 library, I am able to do away with all the clutter within the library and still open it normally.
Now my 44GB obese iPhoto'11 library has been slimmed down to just a little over 7 GB (5 GB as reported by iPhoto'11) and I am just comfortable dealing with 2 GB of "don't-know-what-info" of clutter within the library.
Remember my "One Photo Experimental" iPhoto'11 library that was 36.3 GB? I managed to bring it down to the realistic 22 MB size. This size is still double that of a brand new iPhoto'11 library I created to import 1 photo. However, it sure beat having 36.3 GB of clutter.
So, now what I am gonna do is to "divide and conquer" the duplicate copies of my iPhoto'11 library into smaller sized ones according to their year. But I think I'll still keep the original bloated, gigantic 130 GB intact and continue to feed it with photos and videos until maybe it becomes 1 TB! Yikes!
Anyway, million thanks for your tip and I really appreciate it! Have a Happy holidays!

  • Set all Finder folder font sizes to 14?

Isn't there some way (AppleScript?) to set all folder font sizes to 14?
How about changing the column widths, etc?
It's really painful to change all 11,000 of them, one by one...

You should be able to do that from your pulldown menu in Finder "View" >> "Show view options" >> "Text size". The columns in list view you should be able to drag from the bottom of the scroll bar at the "ll" to set?
    Are these preferences not "sticking"?

    Hi,
Try this way , First create a window inside the main window then create your folder node. Generally if you are creating a node inside the node it takes the default of main window.
