IWeb 2.0.1 vs 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac

I'm attempting to run iWeb 2.0.1 on a new 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Extreme iMac.
It crashes at startup, always, but oddly.
It opens and partially operates, but won't display the iWeb window. The menus are operational, but of course mostly dimmed since there's no object there to receive the commands. (For example, all File > New choices are dimmed.)
This is clean machine - no previous iWeb sites to convert.
In fact, iWeb doesn't create a ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites or domain.sites2 file when it opens.
Creating one on another system, transferring it, adjusting permissions, and opening it locked iWeb up entirely.
Creating a new user account and opening iWeb in it has no effect. Nor does logging on as root.
Deleting the entire iLife '08 suite, reinstalling from scratch, running Software Update, and then opening iWeb produces the same result. All the other iLife apps run fine.
Is anyone else able to get iWeb 2.0.1 to run on an Intel Core 2 Extreme system? It's DOA so far as I can tell.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I've run out of espresso, and ideas.
Thanks,
Bryan

I was unable to launch iWeb 2.0 at first, but it turned out to be corrupted font caches. You can use the free Font Nuke program to delete your font caches (a harmless process):

It's worth a try. Corrupt font caches can cause all sorts of inexplicable system problems.

  • IMac 24" - 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo or Extreme? Confused

Hey there, sorry if this is a really stupid question, but I recently bought the top model iMac 24", which is advertised as coming with a 2.8Ghz Intel Core 2 Extreme processor. However, when I got to 'About My Mac' it say it's a 2.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. Am I being stupid, or is this not right? Thanks

The Intel iMacs (and Mac Mini) have always used laptop processors: Initially the Core Duo - Yonah, then the Core 2 Duo - Merom and now the Core 2 Extreme - *Merom Extreme*.
Apple doesn't use any of the faster, cheaper, desktop Intel processors (like the desktop Core 2 Duo which is called Conroe ). The Mac Pros use the workstation/server processors Woodcrest or Clovertown.

    Guilty Party,
My Core 2 Extreme 2.8GHz reads Core 2 Duo too. Now I accept that these are both basically the same processor but I rather think OS X should report the processor fully so have left feedback to Apple to request the change.

  • New IMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 will not burn to CDR media

I have a new IMac IMac 2.8GHz Intel Core i7 that will not burn to CDR media. When I insert a blank CDR it immediately opens DiskUtility. But I can't burn to the CD; it does not recogize the disk. Anyone else have this problem? Is there a way to diagnose if my CD burner is defective and was shipped to me defective. I didnt discover this problem until after I had the computer for, say, a month and then found I could not burn to my supply [of some 80+] blank CDRs.

  • 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor vs 1.5 Ghz Power Pc G4

I have a Powerbook G4 15 and am considering switching to the Air. Can anyone tell me the magnitude of the performance increase between these two? 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor vs 1.5 Ghz Power Pc G4

    Mucho faster!
Seriously though, if you get the 1.8 SSD it will be like greased lightning compared to the PowerBook G4. I still have an old 1.25GHz PowerBook G4 for my son that the case got cosmetically damaged on (though it still runs fine). There's no comparison, the MBA just blows it away in every measurement. I would say boot time is at least 5x faster. Apps launch 5x faster and general app execution is probably around 4x faster.
And the screen is much better too!

  • Suggestions for new Intel Core i7 Extreme PC?

    Hi all,
I'll be buying a new editing PC with the Intel® Core i7 Extreme 3.2GHz processors. Rather than build it myself, I'm looking for a fast and reliable PC from a manufacturer. For several years I used Dell workstations ... and they were stable, but not so fast.
The reason I'm switching is that Blackmagic hardware doesn't like Dell MOBO.
Any recommendations? Any opinions on Alienware? They seem a bit expensive, but are reported to be fast.
    Thank you for your input!
    Robert

    Robert, look at http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b70da3/0
Unfortunately, the chips and motherboards to use two i7's will not be available until that nebulous "first quarter 2009"
Here is one preliminary benchmark: "Early tests conducted with Intel's upcoming Nehalem-based Xeons by TechRadar today show the processor running approximately twice as fast as its current equivalent. Based on the same basic design as Core i7 mainstream chips, a pair of 2.8GHz quad-core Xeon X5560 chips received a SPEC score of 160 in floating-point math tests versus 90 for two 3.4GHz Xeons from the current generation."

  • I have a 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac. Can I use mirroring via Apple TV? If so. how.

I'm having no trouble sending stuff from my iPod Touch to my TV via Apple TV, but can't seem to get my
3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac to do so, as the mirror icon is not appearing in the Menu bar on top.
    1. Can my processor mirror?
    2. If so, how do I get the iCon to appear in the Menu bar

Looking at your processor, you haven't got a compatible Mac. AirPlay Mirroring requires a Mid 2011 or newer iMac > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5404
To mirror the Mac's display to the Apple TV, use an application like AirParrot or Beamer > http://www.airparrot.com
If you want to use AirPlay to send music or videos to the Apple TV, open iTunes and you should see the AirPlay icon on the iTunes toolbar

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?  What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible?  Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense?  I have an Epson R2000 printer.  Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion?  It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Before upgrading to Lion be sure to read this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
    Adobe lists these requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine.
