IWeb 2.0 bugs

Bugs:
iWeb 2.0 crashes upon publish - I reported via crash log.
iWeb 2.0 completely screwed up all pages containing photos. Here are some examples:
http://www.mrconsultingservices.com/files/apple/iweb20bug1.png
http://www.mrconsultingservices.com/files/apple/iweb20bug2.png
iWeb 2.0: Pages containing movies seem ok. However some text now is larger but same font.
iWeb2.0: On pages with the "Mac with Mac" logo, the symbol is in a different spot.
iWeb 2.0 completely fried my entire family site. Did a clone backup prior to installing iLife 08 and will be restoring to pre iLife 08 until Apple fixes these issues. Unfortunately, I am going to recommend to all my clients that they not purchase iLife 08 until all these issues are resolved. I do not want to have to go through the headache of having them all have to clone/restore from backups due to the multitude of issues.
Offtopic but I've had the new iMovie crash as well. iPhoto and Garageband seem ok, have not tried iDVD yet.

I faced the same problems and more....
Most annoying after installing iWeb 2.0:
my website www.kg-pharma.de (still content of iWeb 1.12) bases on a template from iLifestuff (they seem not to be in biz any more).
After launching iWeb I stupidly said yes being asked to "update" domain file from old version.
Once open everything looked OK at first glance, then Irealized that the navi menu does not appear on any site !!
I activated it in the menu and it appeared in the complete wrong place with wrong font and color.
No chance to change anything.
Also no chance to change theme, the button is disabled.
I heard from template designer as lamiavia, that iWeb 2.0 does not support 3rd party templates so far, I decided to start choosing an orgininal Apple template and make the work of copying all old files to it.....
It went OK in the beginning. But after reopening the file 3 or 4 times, it reported me, that picture files are missing.
In the beginning just a pic here and there, finally about 60 % o fall pics were missing !!!!!
Even no logic or system in the missing pics.
Thats not acceptable !!!! no way.
I reinstalled iWeb 1.1.2. and keep using it, until an official solution will be presented.
Websites live from being "alive" and I can not waste my time in copying pics whole day to fill the gaps produced by this bug....
Sorry Apple, but here is no silver medal to win for the second place !

  • IWeb 1.12 bug: folder-photos have original file names!?!?

Hi, I've been using iWeb for a while now, but came across a strange bug which creates a problem for me. I had about 180 jpg photos on my mac which originally had particular file names. I manually changed the file names in the finder (for each of these - say, from a file name that might have been something like 1a.jpg to one that might be 1-Wayne.jpg, then drag-drop imported them into iPhoto, reordered them in iPhoto, then exported to iWeb (onto two pages since it will only take 99 photos on any one page), then exported from iWeb to a folder that I plan to upload to a server.
I noticed while trolling through the newly-created folder with the images, that while some of the file names are the new ones, quite a few of them retain the old file names! How the heck did that happen? Since in the published website (i.e. via a browser) all the new names show, it is not a problem for the website per se. But I am also making an image-map file which links to these photos, and since I have so many photos, it is very confusing since some of the files that iWeb created use the new file names, whereas others use the old names. I would rather recycle the iWeb-created images rather than to upload entirely new ones (e.g. with the new names).
Anyone know what's going on here? Solutions or workarounds?
    Baffled and flustered,
    Wayne

    Welcome to Apple Discussions,
    You are doing nothing wrong.
I have noticed the same behavior change between iPhoto '08 and iPhoto '09.
When you make a change to the name of the Event that name change takes place within the database that governs the iPhoto Library of pictures, not in the "physical" structure of the iPhoto Library (as you pointed out).
Any changes you need to make should be made through the iPhoto interface (iPhoto is an image organizer after all. Thats what it's made for.), not by going inside the iPhoto Library package (Which is where you see those folder names. Making any changes within the package can damage the library. )
That said if you think that the naming structure is a feature you would like to see in future versions of iPhoto you can let Apple know. iPhoto > Provide iPhoto Feedback.
    Hope that helps.

  • IWeb 09 major bug - losing site - believe it's photo albums and photo pages

I have repeatedly lost my site now 3 times since upgrading.
The problem appears to be when editing photo album pages with a few photo albums on them and then rearranging those albums and pages between sites.
I can't be more specific at this stage, as it's happening relatively randomly, but am curious if others have discovered similar problems.
FWIW I am recovering by using time machine and backups.

I too had major problems with iWeb '09. I was unable even to publish to a local folder without getting an error message "Unknown error" (really, really helpful). I published a site created and maintained by iWeb '08 four times to separate local folders within an hour, not changing the site at all during that period. Only about 90% of the contents were published. Typically what was missing was some photo albums and blogs, although not always the same photo albums.
After some careful poking about in my MobileMe-published site I noticed that some particular pages were not publishing to a local folder. Upon investigation I discovered that some of the photo albums, whilst appearing in the sidebar in iWeb '09, did not appear on the main albums page. It seems that, for whatever reason, iWeb '09 had lost the links to these. I deleted the pages from the sidebar and then turned my attention to Blogs. This was the other area where I noticed that publishing seemed to have a problem.
One of the problems seemed to be that there was a link to a, by now, 'lost' photo album. Editing the link and then re-publishing to a local folder at last cured the problem. I have yet to publish to MobileMe, but at last things are looking good in the 'test' phase.
It seems that, unless your iWeb '08-created site was relatively simple, some editing HAS to be done in iWeb '09 before publishing. I hope that this answers more questions than it poses!

  • Iweb widget slideshow bug, can't enlarge its dimensions

I added a widget slideshow to my blog. slideshow works fine but the "transform controls" dont work. when i try to click and drag the dimensions, the whole slide show just moves wherever i move the mouse. I just want to make the slideshow larger. didn't relize it was going to be so difficult. anybody else have this issue or know how to fix it? thanx for your time. -Cory

Looking at it myself and I must say, if what I found is making a difference it's a slight one. Although I think it might be the problem.
This is for your "MY GALLERY" Link. Notice its capitalized.
    +*onkeypress="window.open(this.href); return false;" href="http://gallery.mac.com/compulsive#gallery" title="http://gallery.mac.com/compulsive#gallery" onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;">MY GALLERY*+
Now in the "COMPULSIVE .MAC " link one its not capitalized like it is on your site. Look below.
    +*onkeypress="window.open(this.href); return false;" href="http://homepage.mac.com/compulsive/Menu120.html" title="http://homepage.mac.com/compulsive/Menu120.html" onclick="window.open(this.href); return false;">compulsive .mac
    *+
Really just a republish should fix this problem. Make sure it gets published all the way through and wait till it asks if you want announce it to make sure it's totally finished.
Let me know if this helps.

  • IWeb crashes every time with media browser

I've been searching the forums looking for a solution for the iWeb media browser bug in iLife 06 but I haven't been able to find a solution. I do not have flip4mac installed and just in case I moved out all .avi's out of the movie folder into another folder on the hard drive
    Specs
MacBook Pro 1.83 (1 gig RAM)
    OS/X 10.4.6
    iLife 06
    iWeb v1.1
Any sort of assitance would be greatly appreciated

    Christopher,
Pinwheels (commonly known as "The Beachball of death") is not a crash, usually means there's not enough RAM.
When the program "crashes" the app. closes completely and a window appears stating the app has unexpectedlty quit and you have a choice of closing the window and doing nothing, trying to re-open the app, or you can send a bug report to Apple. With enough bug reports sent to Apple they will update a patch. Since this sounds like a RAM-deprived computer struggling w/ insufficient memory causing impatient users to force-quit, there is effectively no bug report sent to Apple, simply because there is no bug.
Your OS alone (tiger) requires 512 RAM to operate, along with iWeb and any other apps running...
Upgrade your RAM and I'm sure you'll see improved performance. Repairing Permissions never hurt either.
If that doesn't work try opening a Finder window and dragging your files from there to iWeb.

  • How to type persian in iWeb!

    Hi guys
I just got my .Mac acount and now it's time to make a website on iWeb!!!
I can do most of the things but I am really stuck about how to type in persian in iweb!!! I have had search and that's what I found:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60467
but this is OS 9 and it aint about i web!
if anyone can help please reply back! thanks ...

I am really stuck about how to type in persian in iweb!!!
As with any other language, you first go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Persian, plus the box for "show input menu in finder." Then in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder you select Persian. Then you type. Set the font to Geeza Pro.
I think iWeb has some bugs when you try to use RTL scripts. You may find it easier to write in TextEdit and copy/paste from there.

  • Blog Summary Page: Pictures in blog entries are gone

All of my blog entries on the blog summary page no longer display images set inside the text of an entry. Is this an iWeb 2.0 bug or "feature"?
This is annoying, because with iWeb 1 I was able to share these pictures in my blog summary page and RSS feed. Now my blog and RSS readers have to click the "read more" link to see any pictures, even though I have set my blog summary length to the total entry.
This is a serious loss of feature for no good reason, and I hope this is considered a bug and will be fixed soon.

I was just getting ready to post a similar question when I ran across yours. I've been using Rapid Weaver for my blog and was thinking about switching over to iWeb, but until the pictures start showing up on the summary page (inside the text of an entry), iWeb is utterly non-functional for my purposes.
The other thing I noticed is that none of the formatting (like bold or italics text) shows up inside the text of an entry on the summary page either.
I, too, am very interested in whether this is a "bug" or a "feature."

  • Right to left Languages how do I setup it on my leopard?!

    Hi
I bought a new macbook pro and I struggle to update right to left languages like Hebrew, this stiffen on me in the work the with Keynote Numbers ect'. someone can help?

You activate the input for Hebrew and other languages by going to system preferences/international/input menu and check the right box, plus the box for "show input menu in Finder." Then you select Hebrew in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder and type.
Unfortunately iWork and iWeb have various bugs with RTL languages. The best app to use is Mellel.

  • Internet Explorer Rendering

    Hi
I was thinking about upgrading to iWeb 08. One of the things that has seemed irritating with IE is that versions of IE don't display iWeb pages properly because iWeb uses .png files.
Is this still the case with iWeb 08?
Are there any options to use .jpeg within 08 for example?
Does anyone have any resources that they can point me at to overcome this issue with iWeb 06?
I am trying to avoid having to pay a web designer to create some pages for me that don't load badly with the Windoze browser.
    TIA
    DAVID

Hey.....I was looking at this topic and I have to agree with both of you at the same time......In my particular case my site works fine on safari and firefox.......but in explorer the text and the fonts are all screw up, but I can see the nav bar........In Netscape all the fonts and text are good....but you can not see the nav bar......and the biggest problem for me is that in both browser non of the blogs or slideshows work.....my url is www.rvassmer.com
I have look with different browsers at some other people's sites that have posted a comment and there url......and you can not see the nav bar in netscape or see there blogs working fine......
An example is this guy http://web.mac.com/sboben/Mystics/Welcome.html
In my site I made the nav bar in flash, but when I put the one from iWeb, I could see it on explorer but not on netscape.......
But there must be a way because your site works perfect on netscape.........
iWeb as some bugs but for somebody like me that don't have a clue about coding is pretty cool.....specially if you have to update a site very often......

  • Hebrew font issue

    Hi,
with Safari 4 the Hebrew font in this page (http://www.antoniolombatti.it/B/Blog06-09/Voci/2009/7/26Pillole_Bibliche_-A.html) doesn't show vowels correctly, while if I use Camino or Firefox (and even PC Firefox and IE) the sentence is rightly displayed.
I think it depends on the way iWeb creates the page, since Safari shows correctly other pages in Hebrew of newspapers and by Bible scholars.
    Any idea?
    Antonio

Generally speaking, iWeb has various bugs with RTL scripts which can make it unsuitable for Hebrew and Arabic, depending on exactly what is required. Perhaps you have found a new one.
Safari 3 also shows the same problem, so perhaps it is really a Safari bug (especially if all other browsers display it correctly). Let's see if it will work OK here:
    לַעֲלוּקָה, שְׁתֵּי בָנוֹת-- הַב הַב:

Can someone please send the URL for the page in which one can report bugs in iWeb?
    2
Same thing for simple old Wishes and Hopes for the next iWeb if they are not one and the same URL/page.
    Thank you.

    Lorna....
    All is well....actually doing a little jet-setting
over here and there...you can check the updates on my
    website....thanks for your email...
Regarding the feedback to Apple....if you ever forget
the website, you can always look under the iWeb menu
while you are working (that's when you run into these
bugs anyways) and pick "Send Feedback to Apple".
That'll send you to the same webpage for feedback
    submission!
Hi James I'm glad that you are ok. And thank you for the hint about the bug reports on iWeb menu. It makes a lot of sense putting it there; I just never noticed it.
iWeb has a bad blog bug
I'd like to stomp it royally
Instead I'll send a feedback hug
    (She said, behaving loyally.)
All is said and all is done
Let's get the Raid bomb just for fun.

  • IWeb Bugs and a wish for the future. :)

    Hi there,
Two issues that I've found moving my photoblog to iWeb, and I'm wondering if they are bugs or issues that the community knows about:
    1. I've changed the template I used a lot - font colours, background, etc. Now when I create a new blog entry, it uses the old, standard template and I have to change everything again. Is there a way to make iWeb realise that I've changed my "default" template settings so all new entries remain the same? It seems not. This is my feature wish.
    2. Related to this, I solve this problem by just duplicating one of my existing pages and then changing the photo and content and date. The PROBLEM with this is where i think the bug exists. In iWeb, when I click Next/Previous, it goes between the different entries in chronological order, as expected... but when it publishes to .Mac, the next/previous buttons are really messed up, linking to articles/pages that are not even close to being near them in order. I've been able to determine that:
    a. Create three new entries in iWeb. Works good.
    b. Duplicate the middle entry, put it LAST in the order.
    c. The NEXT button on this new, last entry links to the third item, just as the original 2nd item did before I duplicated it.
Is there any way to make iWeb re-calculate the next and previous buttons before you publish it? Or even better, any Apple folks around that can confirm/escalate this?
UPDATE: It's also possible that iWeb is ordering the next and previous buttons based on the time the entry was created in iWeb, rather then the time specified on the entry. If you are porting older entries from a previous blog, this can be a pain because you're not necessarily putting entries in from oldest to newest.
Either way - the behaviour isn't as expected: next and previous buttons ordered by the date specified in the iWeb 'Entries' window.
    3. This is more advanced, but seems a bug none the less. I use .Mac publishing, because it's integrated and easy. But I also have my down domain, which I have configured to just "forward" to my .Mac folder. So, when someone goes to www.mydomain.com, the server connects to web.mac.com/me/iWeb/ and makes the request, translating the path. This works really great (save some initial headaches with character encoding), but comments in iWeb blogs don't work when you do this.
They work directly when you go directly to .Mac, but something about the comment system requires that the client browser accurately present the URL to the .Mac server, and in my case, it's reporting my domain name. As a result, when you click to add a comment, you get a "there has been an error" page and it dies.
If this little annoyance could be fixed in a point release version of iWeb, that would be AMAZING.
    4. Lastly, one more wish for the future. .mac domain hosting. Domains aren't just for businesses - lots of people have them for their blog/photos/etc now. If I could make my domain point to my .Mac web hosting without any messy translation, I'd be in heaven. I don't even care if I only get my single e-mail address on the domain - just the hosting would be so excellent.
    MacBook Pro 1.83 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It sounds like it! I ported about 10 new posts from my old MovableType installation last night and am seeing the same behaviour - duplicating entries definately breaks the chronological order of next/previous.
    Apple?
Is there a place I can file a formal bug report?

  • Slight Bug in iWeb?

I have found a bug (feature, whatever) that gives me a problem when I publish to a folder. If I make changes to an iWeb site and publish it to a directory, and make additional changes to the same iWeb site, the changes are not made if I publish to the same directory named folder. This is true even if I delete the folder before publishing. I have to change the name to get the changes....
Needless to say I am changing the folder name by incrementing a number in the folder name...
Any thoughts on what I am doing wrong?
    Mike

I understand. That's why I am asking you to make sure that your FTP application is set properly.
Don't be tempted to use the FTP provided by your hosting service. Use a good stand-alone one.
If you don't want to pay for one, a lot of people use, and are apparently satisfied with, the freeware Cyberduck.....

  • New iWeb has a major bug!

The new update for iWeb has introduced a major bug.
Previously, if you had ANY text in a text box presented with a drop shadow, that text would become the image of text and a little warning icon would show in the upper right of the text box. If a photo were presented with a drop shadow, the icon would not appear. Same for a text box inside the main text box. It could be displayed with a drop shadow, but its text could not be highlighted and copied to the clipboard, since it is now an image of text, not selectable text.
Between yesterday's iWeb and today's, whatever drives that icon to appear has changed. Yesterday, no icon and selectable text. Today, icon and no selection possible.
All the text on this page was selectable yesterday without any issue at all. Now it's a text image and cannot be selected. Further, this makes the page completely useless for iPad viewing.
I've tested everything on the page that I can think of to get rid of this little cautionary icon. I switched off all image bullets, all separator and image drop shadows. There ore no cross-out words. Nothing works.
    The page is here:
    http://www.hdslrreview.com/HDSLRreview/Software_2.html
Ironical that it is a review of Final Cut Pro X.

Zapfino is not one of the Web Safe Fonts and so the conversion to an image.

  • Apple should still fix iWeb bugs.

Apple should still fix iWeb bugs, even though it has been discontinued. There are many many bugs still in the latest version.
One of which is failure to save your current work and to enable the publish button when changes are made.

That's like asking Ford to continue to provide parts for the Edsel or Chevrolet for the Corvair.
What system and iWeb version are you using?  iWeb 2 (08) is not compatible with Mt. Lion.  iWeb 3 is. Others who have had that problem did find fixes.
As Roddy pointed out you could learn how to use iWeb and it's menus?
    iWeb 2
    iWeb 3:
    It's really not that hard.
