IWeb 3.03 and Firefox 4 weird boxes around images

Just built a small site (keepourcityclean (dot) org) but for some reason it looks good on Safari but not on Firefox. There are strange boxes and
lines around images that are obviously indicative of the formatting that iWeb uses, but why doesn't it work across all browsers? Is there a fix?

Not all browsers display a site the same because they implement web standards differently.  Tried to log onto you site but it wouldn't load.  Just kept the loading wheel going and going and going.
However, this tutorial might be of some help: #7 - Converting Photos w/Frames, Drop Shadows and/or Reflections into a Single JPG Image.  It certainly will help in making sites more compatible with Internet Explorer and older versions of Firefox.
Since the http://keepourcityclean.org/Home.html won't load maybe you could take screenshots of the boxes in Firefox and post them in a reply.

Why has my iPhone 4 lost its touch-screen-ability and created selection-boxes around apps, etc.. that require a double-tap to operate/execute?

VoiceOver is on.  Triple-pressing the Home button may be set to turn it on or off.
    Settings > General > Accessibility
While it is on, you need to use three fingers to scroll.

  • How do I get rid of faint white boxes around images?

Some files that I have printed have faint white boxes around images.  The images were saved in photoshop with transparent backgrounds that seem to be showing up faintly in the final printed image.  Does anyone know how I can get rid of this problem?

    signspec,
What happens if you print from Illy?
Your printer (driver) may be overly helpful and performs a bit of colour management all by itself. You may have a look and disable any such management in the printer (driver) options.

  • Gray box around images in PDF and when printing? Why?

    Hi,
I'm using CS5 and I'm getting a gray box around any image embedded in my document.  The box comes if I click on it when a PDF and it prints around them.  I can't seem to figure this one out.  I'm not used to prepping files for print and I'm trying to send this out to someone who needs to print it.
    It's CMYK.
I've tried to flatten transparency using both vector and rasterize.
I've made sure the images are embedded.
    I can't figure this out!!
    Please, help.
    Thanks.

does this look like your problem?

  • How do you remove link box around images?

I have put a link on a firework image that I created. When I put the files up it looks fine on my computer but a blue box keeps showing up on older computers. It is a bright blue color and looks very weird.  Is there a way to have a link on the image but without a blue box around it? Or at least change the color of the link so it matches the site. Thanks!

'In the stylesheet add the following:  (or in the head of the document if that's where your style rules are).
    a img {border: none}
This will ensure there is no border on *any* images that have links attached to them.

  • Getting white boxes around images.. help!

I dont know whats going on. I havent used Dreamweaver in a
while and am having an odd issue.
    Located here: www.gwoodsconst.com
I am getting white boxes around the images. Not sure what the
    issues. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Your image contains the white box, not your HTML. If you
created it in a graphics program like Illustrator or Corel, the
anti-aliasing setting at export put a thin blur around the edges to
    visually smooth the image
Crop the image by one or two pixels then reset your sizes so
    it’s not distorted.
    That will fix it.

  • White box around image in my transparent .swf file

I created a .swf file for a header of a website using a logo that tweens in.  I tested the .swf with the transparent properties and it works but the logo I imported from photoshop has a white box around it, how can I remove this?  Do I need to import a transparent .png file instead of a .jpg?
    Thanks!

.png's are lossless vector graphics, so it's probably best bet if your going to do other things with the logo. .jpg's are not fond of resizing. You can also break the image apart and use the lasso tool and magic wand the background away.

  • Blue box around image link

I seem to get this obnoxious blue box around all image links
I create in Dreamweaver cs3. Has anyone experienced this and if so
how do I get rid of that bugger

    >I am very new to this, but the way I got round this
    problem was to add
    >border="0" after the height="xx" for that image.
That'll work but it requires border="0" to be individually
    added to every
single <img> which is a link in every single page on
    your site.
The method suggested by Alec is created just the once and
    applies
automatically to every single <img> which is a link on
    every page both now
and into the future i.e. nil maintenance.
    I know which I prefer :-)

  • Indesign CS4 adds square boxes around images when exporting to PDF

When I export a brochure created in InDesign to PDF, for some reason the .pdf file (only the PDF - the InDesign version doesn't show these) shows faint squares around images/graphics that have shadow effects applied. These appear around photos, as well as graphic objects that have a solid colour background, for example an orange circle. Some suggested rasterizing images in Illustrator and that didn't help. Transparency doesn't seem to be at fault either. Would anyone have any idea what may be causing this and how to remedy the problem?
FYI, the PDF export pre-sets in InDesign are as follows (I only mention options that are checked, the rest are turned off):
    COMPATIBILITY: Acrobat 5 (PDF 1.4)
    GENERAL:
         HIGH QUALITY PRINT (modified)
         Export Layers:Visible & Printable Layers
    COMPRESSION:
         COLOR IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      GRAYSCALE IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 300 pixels per inch for images above 450 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Image Quality: Maximum
      MONOCHROME IMAGES:
Bicubis Downsampling to 1200 pixels per inch for images above 1800 pixels per inch
         Compression: Automatic JPEG
         Compression: CCITT Group 4
FYI - I use Mac OSX 10.5.8 and InDesign 6.0.3.
I have attached the PDF for your review.
    With many thanks,
    Alex

BTW, don't use OSX's preview to look at PDFs created by InDesign if they take advantage of high end features such as live transparency.
Preview simply isn't up to the task and you should be using Acrobat or Reader.

  • White boxes around images

Hi, I know this is a basic question but it's causing me a lot
    of grief.
When I place images on coloured backgrounds, they have white
    boxes
around them. Is the only way to get around this to manipulate
    the
image itself in photoshop? I've tried this but it still
    doesn't look
right - there are jagged edges. Or I've tried giving the
    image the
same colour background in photoshop so it blends, but there
    is a white
edge. How do others handle this? Some expert advice would
    really be
    great to have.

If you are seeing white borders against colored backgrounds,
    then this means
that the white is part of the image. There would be no way to
    remove that
short of editing the image in your image editing program.

  • Strange letters and weird boxes around dialog boxes

    Hello!
I'm wondering what might cause something like this:
    mkdir text
    ls
    text
    rm text/
rm: cannot remove Ètext/È: Is a directory
The commands doesn't matter, just the end right there. The text looks weird and everything. It shows like this in other places as well but I just made this example up.
And if there is a dialog box it will have a line that consists of the same kind of letters, not a straight line.
    How do I fix this?

Timelaw, being new and needing to learn is fine, but you will be expected to do some of your own research.
JWR linked to an article about how to ask questions in a manner that will yeild useful results.  One of the underlying themes - and even one of the specific examples - describes someone being given advice on a forum when they are told to check the value of some setting (like, say, $TERM).  The bad response described in that article is to immediately respond "What is TERM?".
We are here to help solve your problem, but we are not here to reiterate basic facts that could be found through a 5 second google search.  Google "Linux TERM" or "WM DE" and I have no doubt the first results will tell you exactly what these are - then we can focus on solving the actual problem, rather than the trivialities which you are certainly capable of determining without help.
Please actually read the article JWR linked to.  You can keep your eye out for the short example on a "stuck zentry" for the example I'm referring to.
I did google the DE and WM thing but I didn't found anything that related to the matter. I guess I did it with other keywords or something. (What I googled was "WM/DE means/meaning" etc)
I did check the link, and I have it here in a seperate tab, reading bits as I keep going. If it looked like I didn't care, that's not the case.
Also, when I wrote $TERM in the console it said
    -bash: linux: command not found
And now when I have googled, it said that linux is the most common thing the variable is set to, in new systems etc, and I suppose that is why it says linux there?
Also, I'm quite busy with a lot of stuff and I'm trying to fix this issue with my Arch when I have spare time, and so I wrote this in the hope that I could get it explained until I actually had time to look at this again.
    I'm sorry for the trouble.

  • Why are there weird boxes around text in the Apple apps I use in mavericks?

After I updated to Mavericks I noticed these weird grey boxes that appear around the text in some of the Apple-made apps I use lime Pages, Reminders, etc. Also, in a finder window, whenever some of my tabs are open, the tab's colour is different from that of the header of the window. I checked other people macs which has mavericks but none of them had the same problem. Here are a few images of my problems:

So nobody else has seen this problem? Is that the gist I'm getting?
