IWeb 4 Business?

Hi. I have a few simple questions. I couldn't find the answers in the iWeb online manual.
1. Can I use my iWeb and my DotMac subscription to create a Business Website?
And, 2. If not, where should one go to use their iWeb to create a website for a small home business? I am using iWeb because I am familiar with creating a Personal website on DotMac. I am open to using any kind of program to create a business website, if iWeb is not preferred. The new Business website does nont need to be complicated or fancy. Just basic and simple. The most economical option, as well as easy to create, is desired.
Your insight, ideas and information are greatly appreciated. Have a nice day, Tim

Tim ~ Click on this icon:
...and read the paragraph beginning: +".Mac has been designed for personal use and is not intended to be used to host e-commerce businesses conducting commercial sales and/or transactions over the Internet, including, but not limited to, any online store or shop, or software distribution...."+
...so although you shouldn't host your commercial website on .Mac, you can create one using iWeb and publish it to a folder and FTP your site to a non-.Mac host.
Which host? ...Well there are many to choose from, but if you want a Mac oriented one you could try this:

You're posting your qstn on the "Previous to iWeb '08" forum which may or may not mean you intend to use iWeb '08. This latest version includes iWeb 2.x which makes it easy to add widgets (such as a PayPal button) to your site.

  • Another iWeb/MobileMe business site question...

I have read the ToS and understand that you are not really supposed to use MobileMe to host a website on which items are sold. Is it also against the ToS to have a website that just provides information about your business (product descriptions, contact info, etc)?

There are a lot of iWeb business sites on MMe.
The general impression is that if you want more than just pages, iWeb/MMe is not suitable for business.
So a webstore with a client database, online ordering and paymant is not possible, because MMe does not support PHP, SSI, CGI and MySQL. Cryptic words you need to do business.
But having items for sale and use PayPal is a good combination.

  • Putting an HTML mp3 player into iWeb

I am trying to put an mp3 player into iWeb 09 using the files on my computer. Unfortunately i don't know how to do this. Basically something similar to the audio players that are on myspace and sites like that. Im a tad new to this iWeb business and therefore still trying to find my way about it.
I know there is a code to put in the HTML widget, just not sure where to get them from or which one is the most efficient.
Thanks for having a look, I would really appreciate your feedback.

You need the software and code to embed a mp3 player in your website :
Google will find it for you :
    [embed mp3 player website|http://www.google.nl/search?q=embedmp3+playerwebsite]
    Here's a link to one I use : http://flash-mp3-player.net/
Once you have the files, make it work on the webserver.
Then embed the webpage with the player with the HTML Snippet using the <iframe> HTML element :
    <iframe src="http://url.to.file.html" frameborder="0" width="500" height="500" scrolling="no" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
Or paste the <OBJECT> code directly in the HTML Snippet. Make sure the pathname to the MP3 files and playlists are correct.

  • I am busy making a website with iweb. Do you know if it is possible to make a page with a slideshow which does not contain jpg's but other documents?

I am busy making a website with iweb. Can I only make a page with a slideshow containing jpg's? I would like to make a (pages) document with pictures and have this as a slideshow. Is that possible?

If you use Keynote rather than Pages you can export as HTML to get a slideshow...

Or you can use a JQuery slider that will display text, images, movies etc...

  • Is iWeb + MobileMe hosting reliable enough for a small business?

I have a small business and am trying to get a website up. It will be less than 10 pages, mostly static informational stuff that will almost never change. I will have a few pictures and maybe about 10 documents that clients can download. I won't be doing any e-commerce, no shopping cart, etc...
I'd like to use iWeb '09 to create it and then just host it on my MobileMe account since that would obviously be the cheapest solution. But I didn't know if that was going to be as reliable as using a hosting service like GoDaddy or AT&T's service (that's who my business DSL is with). Those 2 are only about $15/month for everything (domain, hosting, etc...)
My other question, more related to iWeb, is whether GoDaddy's WebSite Tonight program was any easier to use than iWeb. I'm a complete novice to web page building. I've seen some really nice sites people have posted here that they created with iWeb, but I'm wondering how long it would take me to learn to do something that nice.
    Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Judging by what most people complain about, MobileMe's reliability (uptime) appears to be satisfactory — there are more complaints of MobileMe being slow, but perhaps with only a few pages and pictures your clients won't notice.

iWeb is designed for personal sites and so Apple apparently assumes you'll simply pass your site's URL to friends & family. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate search engine optimization — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • Operate small business wsebsite on iWeb?

Hi. Before I spend too much time exploring iWeb '08, I am curious if it is possible to host a website for my small business effectively, or is it better to buy a domain from godaddy and build my site in the more typical fashion? Thanks....

  • Launching my Business' Website with iWeb '06

I'll try to keep this brief. Here's where I stand thusfar:
1.) I am putting together my small business' startup website using iWeb 06, due to its ease of use, having everything I need to make a nice startup site (particularly for my portfolio, blog & podcasting) & ability to update easily. However this WILL be a company site, so I need to find hosting besides mac.com.
2.) I own my domain names through Godaddy.com. I do have it set up right now to forward these addresses to my mac.com site.
3.) I need to add HTML code onto my site so I can have an opt-in list for those that want my newsletter.
4.) Eventually I will be selling my own products on my site, which I plan to use Paypal to handle payment. But I need a digital delivery system for my products.
I know there are many out there that have some great suggestions about programs & services that are ideal for the mac. Any info you could offer would be GREATLY appreciated. I am starting this up on a shoestring so money is a factor, however I see this as an investment & am willing to trade cash for ease of use (basically, if it's easy to use I'm willing to spend the cash on it).
    Thank you

Hey, thanks for your quick and helpful answer!
I wasn't sure it could be done with iWeb, since I tried to do it with my godaddy hosting package, and their off-the-rack website builder didn't allow for html code to be pasted. guess, iWeb allows for that.
My webdesigner told me, iWeb wasn't suitable for professional business websites (video & audio files, newsletters, autoresponders, password protected members' area, the works), only for granny sharing her fotos with her family... seems, he was wrong
    thanks again,
    Orlando

  • Ask Apple to add Business themes to iWeb

On the iWeb Feedback page I noticed there were two questions where Apple includes business as a survey question. They could be thinking about some sort of business support for future releases. If your interested in Apple supporting business on an iWeb site published to MobileMe go to
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html
*1) What do you use iWeb for*
    Select "Business Organization"
*2) What type of themes would you like to see added*
    Select "Business/Professional
This is the best way to get this feature added

Just as an FYI, MobileMe and iDisk aren't intended for "business" use.
You agree to use the Service only for purposes as permitted by these TOS and any applicable law, regulation, or generally accepted practice in the applicable jurisdiction. *The Service is designed for personal use and not intended to be used for commercial business purposes, including, but not limited to, transacting online sales or software distribution via an e-commerce site.*
    from here
    http://www.apple.com/legal/mobileme/en/terms.html
Now, I don't PERSONALLY know of any pages that have been removed from MobileMe for being a "business" BUT, I think it's clear that Apple doesn't want anyone depending on MobileMe as a money-making venture. If, at some point in the future, there's a failure at Apple that takes sites down for a period, I'm not sure they could use "But my business DEMANDS that my site be up around the clock!!" as a complaint given the above.

  • Help pointing iweb site to comcast business server

  • IWeb and Yahoo Small Business

So I reserved my domain name and paid for yahoo small business web hosting. I created my web pages using iWeb. I used file>publish and loaded the pages into a file on my desk top. That's where I'm stuck. I had been working on two separate sites. Both Site and Site1 were added as FOLDERS in my designated desktop folder. I then went to Yahoo Small business. It asked me to upload FILES. There are several files for each folder. Do I upload each one? Am I missing a step completely? Thanks.

It asks me for my server.
Yahoo provides you the info to put in the ftp forms: server, username, password, directory.
In terms of the previous reply in addition to the index file there are a number of other .html files and associated folders. Upload all of these??
You upload the folder that contains all of these, plus the index.html file which is outside that folder. The folder has the name you gave your site inside the iWeb app. So you really up load two items.

  • Small Business on iweb or using dot mac

Hi, I am wonder is there any way to do a small business using iweb or using other tools integrated with dot mac?
I am looking for something like isell that allows easy edit, shopping cart, visa payment method, etc(however, this need additional subscription with macdock or rapidweather, and has low disk space)

You could try looking at these links....
    http://checkout.google.com/seller/?gsessionid=s219Akjw3wc
    http://www.mals-e.com/home.php
    https://www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_home-merchant
    http://www.fatfreecart.com/
If you are going Big Time and/or International try...
    http://www.kagi.com/kagisolutions/index.php
Quote from .Mac Terms and Conditions...
"In addition to the .Mac account limitations on bandwidth and disk utilization, certain commercial or business uses are prohibited, including the following:
    • Operating any type of e-commerce site, including any online store or shop, or software distribution, or any website whose primary purpose is to generate advertising revenue through the posting of automated Content (i.e. ’zombie’ site)"
You will find that a commercial hosting company will give far more reliable service, tech support and shopping cart facilities.

  • Iweb ok for small business website???

Hi all : ) I have no html experience and was considering paying a pro to make me a website for my business project. Then I heard about Iweb: quick and easy, perfect! I got the program and been messing with it and it is a snap. However, I can't seem to come up with anything that makes me go WOW! Perhaps it due to my lack of creativity, experience, or limitations of the program, I am not sure.
So my question is do you think Iweb is appropriate for developing a professional looking website, and if so, where could I find some examples of business sites that were produced with Iweb? Or, should I go in another direction?
    Thanks!

PayPal is a great way to integrate secure payments into an iWeb site. That's the payment method that's used on http://iWebFAQ.com/PayPal. Adding PayPal to your iWeb site requires html file editing of your after Publishing. Fortunately there are many resources that will help you learn to integrate Paypal into your site. http://iWebUserSites.com is a comprehensive list of sites created with iWeb. Search through iWebUserSites.com and see what kind of business techniques/designs are included there.
    Good Luck :^)
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • So is iWeb worthless for a business???

It seems that an iWeb site for a business would be counter productive since iWeb renders all the text as .png's. It seems that search engines won't do an adequate service for business web sites???
Is there some work around for this problem??? I would like to use iWeb but will probably switch do to this search engine problem?
Correct me if I am wrong? I really want to use iWeb??
    thanks,
    mark

Thanks for the input so far. I did do a search last night looking for a work-around for the search engine issue. I fell asleep sometime during my search. I was unable to find any work-around to my original question.
I will do another search later, but if anyone off the top of their head knows a work-around I would greatly appreciate it.
The web site that I did is http://www.warrguitars.com I like the presentation that iWeb gives me. I also like the blog and podcast features. Yes I had to do some work arounds but so far I have that under control.
As far as the .png and IE issue, I found iWeb Optimizor which changes .png's to jpg's. I will check that out.
Now if only I can get the search engines to see text or something???
    Thanks,

  • I created and maintain my business website on my macbook in iWeb.  Is there any way to move it to my desk top?

I created and maintain my business website on my macbook in iWeb.  Is there any way to move it to my desk top?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
