another question...is there a way to use an image as a link?
Hi Denny,
out of my experience I would say that album pages get indexed but photos and photo captions don't. I'd like them to be indexed too. I guess it's because the photo pages are javascript rendering, aren't they? I guess they are... And I also think that no other search engine does index them...

Cédric

IPhoto and compression of uploads to iWeb albums and Web Galleries?
It appears it's been established that iPhoto automatically sizes uploads to Web Galleries and iWeb albums to 800x600 no matter the resolution of the original picture.
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5118968#5118968
You can clumsily work around this in Web Gallery by uploading directly through the gallery upload button or via email, as discussed here.

What I'm wondering is whether there's a way to do something similar in an iWeb album? My experience is that even if I do specify the option in the photo inspector to allow Original (Full Quality) downloads from the album, the files are still heavily compressed somewhere along the line, with 2.2MB originals coming back at 650KB or so.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

I don't have iPhoto 08 yet, but had a similar concern in iPhoto 6. I let iWweb do it's thing and then overwrote the images that it produced.
How? I edited the photos to the way I wanted them in Photoshop or Aperture(!) and saved it out to the largest size (800x600, I believe). Then I set up an Automator action to dupe and resize the pictures to the thumbnail size. When done, I moved the files to my iDisk and put em wher they belong.
It's a bit of a hassle, but I got the quality that I wanted...also, not sure if that'll work in 08... -
Missing folders, albums and images when Migrating from iPhoto to Aperture
I have 3,333 image in iPhoto (v.7.1.3). I'd like to import the entire library into Aperture (v.2.1) and use that primarily to edit and organize the images from here on out. Problem is, when I try to import the iPhoto library from Aperture, it only imports half of the images (1,553 images). I tried deleting the Aperture library and re-importing everything but had the same result. Any suggestions would be appreciated -- I'm eager to get started in Aperture after years of iPhoto.
Hope we get an answer - I'm in the same situation as you, though I just went from iPhoto to A2.x on an older G5 tower. I've been debating whether to take the time to go through them, reorganize "better" than they were under iPhoto or wait for a more elegant solution...

Removing thumbnails from iWeb albums
Could somebody please help me?
I would like to remove the thumbnails from the iWeb albums and I have managed to do it with a few previous ones, but I cannot find a way to do the same thing again with the albums I have recently added...
I know this theme has been discussed here before, but I cannot find any active links to html snippets that could be inserted...
If you have a solution, please do let me know how it can be done
Many thanks in advanceUse the Show ➙ Layout menu option so all items display their boundries.
HTML snippets look like an empty shape like these three:
Click on one and you get the contents of the snippet:
I usually place mine in the footer but they could be anywhere on the page. -
I Imported a MP3 sound and image CD Bird - Birds of Sri Lanka - via itunes on my mac, then synched content to my Iphone as a Playlist to get all the songs/pics in alpha order. BUT each of the 329 birdsongs are listing/appearing as a separate album, so cluttering my album and artist lists :0(
How can I get all the Birds of Sri Lanka songs/albums to come together as just one album please?
Do I need to delete what i have, and download again in another way? :0(
Can I move them all the songs somehow so they become ONE ALBUM :0)
Thank you
BWOOOOhhhhhh no worries, sorted it.
In playlist Selected all songs, went into Get info and updated COMPILATION field from NO to YES.

How do I reorganize my photos on iPad 2? I need to move (not copy) photos from one album to another. When I use the copy function to another album, and then try to delete an image from the original album, the system wants to delete the photos from all albums. Please help.
You can't do it directly on the iPad - the new album functionality basically only allows you to copy photos into those new albums, you can't move them. The way that I think of it as working is that you are just creating pointers to the photos in those new albums, so if you then delete the original photo on the iPad you therefore automatically delete all the pointers to it.
If you want to re-organise your albums then you will need to do it on your computer and then sync those albums over to the iPad -
Can't control the icon iweb generates on iweb gallery album and movie page
Okay - here's the problem. I make a great imovie - share it to the .mac web gallery and imovie sets the icon and I don't seem to have any control over the image it displays. It seems to take part of a screen shot of the first few seconds of the movie but I want to change what is displayed and can't figure out how to determine what image is used for the icon of the movie on the iweb gallery page. I have several movies on the page and want to have a logo displayed - not part of the logo. You can see my frustration at calldrew.com and click on the link for iweb pictures and movies. Thanks so much for any help!
Now I haven't actually tried it but I'm guessin you want to modify the 'poster.jpg' file located in your idisk/Web/Sites/_gallery/xxxxx

Can I publish iWeb sites and Gallery albums in one place?
My Gallery has 66 personal photo albums of simple events (each photo with a caption). Using iWeb, I also have created a multi-page personal website of photos for each of 16 complex events (each site has a welcome page followed by 3-5 photo pages, and all pages have a few sentences of introduction). Now that my beloved Apple has spurned me, I'm hoping to get even, sort of, and post everything--all my photo albums and all my photo websites--in one place. This requires more complexity than I've seen in hunting among suggested replacments for iWeb or Gallery.
In my drooling ignorance, I can imagine a website that has a few levels. On one level are key photos for all gallery albums PLUS key photos for all websites. A user clicks on the main photo of an album or website, and it opens either an album's photos (the current gallery way) or a site's welcome page.
As best I can tell, I want too much. As promising as a site like Zangzing appears, it and others are limited to a single level of photos or to some six interior pages.
Level one shows the key photo for each gallery album AND a key , and has a grand welcome page with linkClick on an album photo and it opens all the album's photos. Click on a website photo, and it opens to s that read, say, "Albums 2000-2005," "Albums 2006-2012," "Websites 2000-2005," Websites 2006-2012." At the next level, each album and each website appears . A Even better would be page links that intersperse albums and websites in chronological order. A user click on the main photo of an album or website and it opens either
lists albums in, say, five-year clusters an for --, perhaps one page for lots of links, maybe albums by years and websites by years.
albums top-level row of albums (like Gallery) with the websites peppered among them. Click on a website photoPLEASE IGNORE ANY EARLIER VERSION. IT'S A DRAFT OF THE FOLLOWING QUESTION . . .
My Gallery has 66 personal photo albums of simple events (each photo has a caption). Using iWeb, I also have created 16 personal websites of photos of complex events (each site has a welcome page followed by 3-5 photo pages, and all pages have a few sentences of introduction). This requires more complexity than I've seen in hunting among suggested replacements for Gallery or iWeb.
In my drooling ignorance, I can imagine a master website that has a few levels. On one level are key photos for all gallery albums PLUS key photos for all websites. When a user clicks on the key photo of an album or website, it opens either an album's photos (the current Gallery way) or a site's welcome page.
As best I can tell, I want too much. As promising as a site like ZangZing seems, it and others seem limited to a single level of photos or to some six interior pages (far fewer than my 16 iWeb sites). Maybe I could create a grand entrance page that has links that read, say, "Albums 2000-2005," "Albums 2006-2012," "Websites 2000-2005," Websites 2006-2012." But then I'd be burying the albums and sites themselves at lower levels.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. -
My old iphone 3g has photos on it. When I try to get the photos off and onto my imac iphoto and image capture only bring up the camera roll. I have more pictures that arent on the camera roll there are albums and a photo library full of pictures that I want off of this dang phone. I have tried everything and I cant email them to myself because the service has been cut off of the phone. They are stuck on the phone there is there any way to get them off? Am I missing something.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device. It simply mirrors the selected content of the computer to which it is synced.
Again, the photo sync is one way.
Did you fail to maintain a backup copy of your old computer?
Not good. You can e-mail the photos from your iphone. You do not need to have phoe service for this. The iphone uses wi-fi. The photos will never be of the original quality, as they are reduced when synced to iphone. -
IWeb '08 Images Not Publishing and Image Distortion in Application
I created a website a couple of years ago and recently noticed two issues:
1) Images I included on the site are now not showing up on the published site, but still appear in iWeb '08 app.
2) Images and graphics in iWeb '08 app are barely showing up. It looks like images that were really over exposed, but the rest of my computer shows colors and images beautifully.
Anyone else run into these issues? How should I fix it?
Thanks in advance for your help!Actually, somehow, I just solved both problems. I opened up iWeb 9 and it seemed to resolve both issues. Sorry for any confusion.

Photos disappear from Album and Photo webpages in iWeb after publishing.
I just installed iWeb 9. I made some great new photos albums and blogs and published. After 4 unsuccessful attempts and publishing errors, I finally got the new web pages published. When I go back into iWeb, the photos on the album page are gone. All the photos from the photos page are also gone! The Albums page, which had 10+ albums now has 1 space that says, "Drag album here."
The website shows the photos as I would expect. I thought this was a fluke, and started from scratch, recreated the pages, made sure my iWeb patches were up to date... Same thing... No photos in iWeb.
The Blog doesn't seem to have this problem. Only the Albums and Photos webpages.Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the following:
1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and try again.

IWeb 09 major bug - losing site - believe it's photo albums and photo pages
I have repeatedly lost my site now 3 times since upgrading.
The problem appears to be when editing photo album pages with a few photo albums on them and then rearranging those albums and pages between sites.
I can't be more specific at this stage, as it's happening relatively randomly, but am curious if others have discovered similar problems.
FWIW I am recovering by using time machine and backups.I too had major problems with iWeb '09. I was unable even to publish to a local folder without getting an error message "Unknown error" (really, really helpful). I published a site created and maintained by iWeb '08 four times to separate local folders within an hour, not changing the site at all during that period. Only about 90% of the contents were published. Typically what was missing was some photo albums and blogs, although not always the same photo albums.
After some careful poking about in my MobileMe-published site I noticed that some particular pages were not publishing to a local folder. Upon investigation I discovered that some of the photo albums, whilst appearing in the sidebar in iWeb '09, did not appear on the main albums page. It seems that, for whatever reason, iWeb '09 had lost the links to these. I deleted the pages from the sidebar and then turned my attention to Blogs. This was the other area where I noticed that publishing seemed to have a problem.
One of the problems seemed to be that there was a link to a, by now, 'lost' photo album. Editing the link and then re-publishing to a local folder at last cured the problem. I have yet to publish to MobileMe, but at last things are looking good in the 'test' phase.
It seems that, unless your iWeb '08-created site was relatively simple, some editing HAS to be done in iWeb '09 before publishing. I hope that this answers more questions than it poses! -
Blank images, loss of albums and various other bits.
Hello all
I've read any comments on moving my library to an external hard drive and followed them through. Holding 'option' down as I start iPhoto up and choosing the new library I get the following message:
'iPhoto library needs to be upgraded to work with this version of iPhoto.
Your Photo Library will not be readable by previous versions of iPhoto after the upgrade. The upgrade process may take several minutes depending on the number of photos in the library.'
I click okay and the upgrade takes place in a few secondes. iPhoto then says it is loading photos with the grey spinning wheel (5 hours yesterday) and it doesn't go away and I have to force quit.
Now going back to my original library (where nothing has been moved or changed) all of my albums have disappeared and quite a few pictures are blank. When I try to get info or open in the editor the 'beachball' spins for a couple of minutes or so and then nothing appears and the info is all dashes to show that there isn't any.
I have about 1700 pix which is about 3.4gb. I realise that there are a few issues bundled into one question here, and the 'blank' pictures have been appearing intermittently for a few months now, but any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks in advance, and also my apologies if I don't respond to any of your answers quickly, I'm out for the next day or so, only back at my Mac now and then.
ThanksTrevor,
That's a bummer. There is a preference file you can trash, but I don't think that will make a difference. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try.
Preference file
When you switched back to the library on the internal, did you use the Option key when you launched iPhoto?
You can also check the permissions on your iPhoto Library folder.
Get info on the iPhoto Library folder
iPhoto Library Info
You can run a cache cleaner like Onyx
OnyX
You can check out these two pages to see if there is anything more to help you.

iPhoto Help 2
If all else fails, you can create a new library:
Close iPhoto
Rename your messed up iPhoto Library to "iPhoto Library_old"
Drag this library to your desktop
Hold down the Option key and launch iPhoto
This is the window you will get
Create a new library or choose a library to open
Choose to create a new library
Once this new empty library is open it is time to import the images from your old library
Go to File>add to library
Navigate to the old library on your desktop and choose it.
iPhoto will start importing the images from your old library
This is what to expect:
Your images will be imported in nice dated rolls. (make sure your view is set to sort by rolls to see it) There are a couple of caveats to this. You will get rolls named "Originals" These rolls will contain your video clips and your original images that you had edited. If you had RAW files they would be in those rolls too (I don't do RAW, so I don't know for sure) Delete what you don't want from those rolls. You will also get the jpeg pointer files to your video clips imported. They will just be jpegs and will not point to the video clips anymore as iPhoto made new ones when the clips were imported again. You can delete those. they should be in a roll right next to the newly imported video clips so they are not hard to find. The thumbnail files don't get imported as iPhoto makes new ones when the images are imported.
Once all you images have been imported, check through the library and make sure everything looks ok.
You can now start making your Albums, and do your keywords or any other organizational steps.
You can also delete the old library on the desktop.
It is also a good time to backup this new library to CD/DVD by burning the iPhoto LIbrary folder in the Finder, or copying the iPhoto Library folder to an external drive formatted for Macs, or copying the iPhoto LIbrary folder to an iPod.
Good luck!

How to export an album and keep images in the same order in elements 11 mac
I made an album of my trip to Australia (lots of pictures) and changed the order of the images (not the same as shooting order) and when I export the images in the album to a folder or memorystick, the images are copied to that place but I lost the album order of the images.
How can I prevent that, without having to renumber al 500 images separatly?
Gr JosThanks for the tip, Michel
It worked like a charm…

The order in album is only kept in the organizer database, so the only way not to lose that order is to rename files.
If you are using the 'export' function, select your album in custom order, select all photos and in the dialog, choose to rename with a common base name.

Drag and drop fails on iWeb - a jpeg image refuses to drop on a photo placeholder
About three pages into creating a web site with iWeb 3.0.4, all of a sudden drag and drop is failing. I have a placeholder image I want to replace with a jpeg photo, but neither the photo nor any of a couple of other .jpegs that worked fine on earlier pages will "drop" onto this one.
I've had no luck using Google to look for answers.
Thanks,
JubalWhere are you dragging the photo from? The media browser, somewhere on your hard drive?
Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
launch iWeb and try again.
