Iweb and domain frwrdng problem

I'm hoping someone can help...my webiste is up and running for months now, I went and tried to change something, published it and now it goes to "not found". www.studio188.com, i use mydomain.com for the url forwarding and everything is set correctly within my account. did I goof in iweb? directly, i tried changing the portion where it labels pages of your site, and changed "Site" to read something else. so simple....it's silly really.
anyone?

The reason this happens is because you have a "space" after the word "Site" in your iWeb site name.
http://web.mac.com/studio188photography/iWeb/Site%20/Studio%20188%20.html
See the "Site%20"??? That %20 is a space character.
Fix this and your forwarding will work again. Though, I would still recommend changing your forwarding to a less specific short iWeb URL. That way if you ever decide to change your site name or want to add another site, you can use the same forwarding.

I have created a website on iWeb and would like to post it to a domain name. I don't know much about this part and would like advice. Where can I get a domain name and what can I expect to pay. Then, once I have it, how do I post the website I created on iWeb onto that domain name?

  • IWeb and domain names 101

I know this material has been covered here before, but I'm having trouble putting the story together fully - sorry if this is repetitive, but:
I have a website up which I created in iWeb, and currently publish in iWeb using my Mobile Me account to host it. I assume that's how it's working anyway? I think the folders holding the site pictures etc are kept on my iDisk?
    I have two questions
    1) I want to purchase a simpler name for the site, and just work it so that everything is the same, but my site will now have a simple name, rather than the complex one it is assigned by iWeb (which uses my email address, etc etc)
    How do I do that?
    2) Is that the best way to do this, or are there benefits to having the site hosted by another service other than .Mac (or MobileMe - whatever it is porperly called these days.)
    Thanks!

    Please can you help.
I have two Mobile Me accounts, and I want to load a different personal domain on the second one to the first one. The first one is personal, and the second one is for a group practice. When I uploaded the pages to Mobile Me, it "assumed" that the pages intended for the second site were to be loaded to the first site under domain name 1. In fact, I want to get those pages under domain name 2. I have been to the domain provider's site and changed the CNAME so that it uploads under the second domain name. I assumed that I could have two separate domain names because I have paid two subs for Mobile Me. What I can't work out is how I can move the pages from the first account personal domain to the second account personal domain. Can anyone help please?

  • Domain forwarding to iWeb and Search word problems...

Hello out there. I have chosen to set up my company's website with iWeb. But because the url is not easy for marketing, I purchased my domain name and had that automatically forwarded to my cover page for my iWeb webpage.
    example: my domain is www.SiegfriedsCall.com
this is what I advertise to my customers.
when you go to www.SiegfriedsCall.com , it is forwarded to my iWeb website http://web.mac.com/SiegfriedsCall/iWeb/SiegfriedsCall/Cover.html
This works fine, and for the most part I am happy, despite the strange changes internet explorer does to my published site. (another topic of discussion)
Question: As this is for my company, marketing the website is important. How can I verify the website in order to enter the website into the Google search engine???
Any assistance with this would be greatly appreciated.
    Scott

google will eventually crawl your site anyway, and a good start is putting up links to your site. You can always post your url in this forum and also encourage others to link to your site from theirs. You will also want to consider using better titles for your pages as well as meta data and keywords. Google will use this information to index your site and make it searchable. On another note I play jazz trumpet and I really like how your site looks, well done! I don't have any sponsers yet either Kidding. Good luck

  • Iweb, personal domain, CNAME problems

    Hi,
We have the following problem, no assistance being provided from .dotmac (2 days, 3 days - 2 requests).
    Symptoms:
    we have followed apple's instructions:
    1) Ensuring that we have a proper domain name (www.xxx.com.au)
    2) Ensuring that we have created a CNAME alias (www.xxx.com.au -> web.mac.com)
    3) Associating the name www.xxx.com.au as our personal domain
    4) Allowed more than 48 hrs
    5) Publishing to the website which works okay (ww.xxx.com.au via the latest release of iWeb which supports personal domains). (Iweb shows [email protected] www.xxx.com.au at the bottom of the window). Files are in subdirectory idisk web/Sites/XXX.

  • Iweb and domain

i just published my photos thru iweb on my .mac account and i also bought a domain name so people can go to this address and see my pics. i only bought the domain name since .mac is hosting the web. what do i need to do to get the 2 in sync? i am not very computer saavy when it comes to stuff like this. can someone help me out?

The previous suggestion will work but may cost you something.
You can do something yourself to have anyone that goes to www.yourdomain.com be automatically redirected to whatever page you want. It would require you to add a bit of code to your existing "default.htm" or "index.html" file.
    The code is:
    <meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="0; url=http://web.mac.com/<your site here/">
Simply add this code after the <html> and <head> tag. Here's what my page looks like; I use it to send folks that go to my old homepage.mac.com site.
    [html snipit]
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 3.2 Final//EN">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;charset=utf-8">
    <meta name="GENERATOR" content="HomePage"><meta HTTP-EQUIV="REFRESH" content="7; url=http://web.mac.com/gregmeach/">
    <title>GregMeach Menu</title>
    extra stuff....
    </head></html>
    [end of snipit]
    Try it out, go to:
    http://homepage.mac.com/gregmeach/
and you'll see after 7 seconds you'll be sent to my new web.mac.com site.

  • Data element and domain change problem

    Hi Gurus!
I changed a Key figure's domain in our system.
The users would like the Key figure with 5 decimal places, but there was only 3 decimal places.
I did the changes based on this document:
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/209b2916-1cca-2d10-b39e-90df259764ef?quicklink=index&overridelayout=true
Everything is fine in our develop system.
But when I transport the changes to our test system, there are some error messages after the transport.
The transport's return code is 8.
    The error messages are:
InfoObject ZIND (or ref.) used in InfoProvider with data managmnt.-> Error:
InfoObject ZIND: Decimal places was changed from 000003 to 000005
InfoObject ZIND being used in InfoCube ZPCA_R01 (contains data)
I don't want to delete any datas from the cube (this will be critical in our productive system).
I tried to activate the Key figure and the cube, I tried "Activate and adjust database" option in trn. SE14, but nothing helped.
Do you have any alternate ideas?
    Thanks a lot.
    Gergely

    Thank you for your response.
I will create a new key figure.
    Best Regards,
    Gergely

  • Database Link and domain suffix problem

    Hi
I have two machines in the same workgroup with Oracle Server 8.1.6 and two instances, I don't have domain .When I create Database Link on one of them the name of the link appears with unknown suffix "US.ORACLE.COM" .The parameter DB_DOMAIN in the init file has no value. Is anybody know why Oracle adds this suffix every time when I'm trying to create database link?

You have to check your SQLNET.ORA file. There is a parameter defined in that file called:
    NAMES.DEFAULT_DOMAIN = <default domain to use>
You need to change this value according to your network settings.

  • IWeb and Domain Names

Hi, I've purchased several domain names and want to publish websites to my iDisk which I want to be found on search engines. Is CName the only way to do this, thus limiting me to only use one CName and one domain name? Be patient, I'm new and slow. Thanks

    Thanks Wyodor,
OK Cname has nothing to do with being found by a search engine, but what does? I have published a site anstock.org on which I want to develop family tree information but an anstock search doesn't show up on a google search.
Yes I can do URL forwarding and I have learned how to publish different sites using iWebsites, but no search engine is picking up my site. I'm practicing to get ready for a business. I'm a therapist and own sandplay.net.au but typing in sandplay in google does not pick up my URL forwarded (practice) page.
Further advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • IWeb won't open and other related problems ....

I saw other posts regarding this but not sure if there is a fix
    that works.
I worked in iWeb all day yesterday. This morning, I cannot open iWeb 08.
When I try, it says "iweb can't open "xxxx.html" file"
(this is a file I created yesterday)
So I searched and i found the Domain.sites2 file in the
    User/library/application support/... folder,
but when i double click to open i get this message:
    Cannot open file «~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/Domain.sites2».
And I don't see any of the new pages i built in yesterday anywhere.
I was saving my work every 10 minutes yesterday while i worked,
however I did not publish the pages I built, I just saved them.
    I do not have a backup,(my bad)
    can someone please advise?
    thanks!

Unless you choose otherwise, iWeb builds all your sites on one domain file.
For those of us who have more than one or two sites its more convenient to have your sites on separate domain files so that you can load them into iWeb and publish them separately.
    See...
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
You'll see that you can manage multiple domain files using a third party application or do it manually.
    I use the latter method.
Splitting domain files is not a brilliant idea but most people seem to have no problems.
In future, I would advise you to start new sites from a new, blank domain file to avoid corruption.
    See....
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1365344&tstart=0
    http://11mystics.com/2007/09/08/how-do-you-manage-multiple-domain-files-for-iweb /
Starting new sites on a blank domain file and keeping them in separate folders makes life a lot simpler if you do get corruption in any one.

  • I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all its folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

You need the 'Domain' file in which iWeb keeps its data. This lives by default in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb. You need to locate it on the old machine and copy it to the same position in the new machine. Note that it is the Library folder in your Home folder, not the one at root level.
This folder is hidden on Lion and above; to access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice. In Mavericks you can make it permanently visible - open your Home Folder the from the Finder's View menu, choose show View Options and check Show User Library.

  • Iweb 09 multiple sites and domains

I have had one iWeb site working properly for the last few years with past iweb versions with no problems. I purposely upgraded to 09' so I could publish multiple sites with individual domains. I created a second and third site and they seemed to up load ok via either the iweb FTP or Cyberduck. (Im not using Mobile me) When I'd go to the web page all I'd see was "under construction". I triple checked if erverything was loaded correctly on the server. They looked just like the original site that had been working and was in the right order.
I got on the phone with Apple yesterday for nearly 3 hours and two different techs. After all their help/suggestions I seemed to have lost my original working site. The site (.sites) shows up in the iWeb library folder and when I click on it to open, iWeb seems to be opening okay as I can see the file menu. However there is NO WINDOW. All I see is my desktop like the window was closed or something. (It wasn't) I've clicked on my other (non working) sites from the same iWeb folder and they open up just fine.
Needless to say, my original problem has now turned into two problems. Apple is confused and has turned the issue over to an engineer and I am waiting to hear back. The tech told me Apple might be adding a software fix soon because others have had uploading multiple sites issues.
Has anyone had a similar experience or suggestions? I'm proficient on the machine but this is ridiculous.

My suggestion would be to ignore the iWeb FTP until it works.
I still keep my sites on separate domain files, publish to a folder and optimize and upload with Web Site Maestro.
Until Apple fixes their FTP and adds optimization or rebuilds iWeb to create less cumbersome files, this feature is useless to anybody who wants their website to download in a reasonable time and have an even chance of loading in IE.

  • IWeb and using my personal domain name.

I have never published a web site before and this is a first time for me.
With having iWeb version 8 installed I have created a website with photos etc.
I have also registered a domain name to use my personal name. This is the one and only web-site I have published.
The name has been set up for forwarding with the CName as web.mac.com with the host site in the section of ‘Masked forwarding’
And in my personal settings in the account manager on .Mac the correct name has been entered to use for my iWeb site. For example www.anthonyjhowe.com which is my registered name.
In the iWeb application under file I have published all my pages to .mac.
In my iDisk folder on the Internet there is a folder named “web/sites and inside this folder, there is my gallery but also a folder named AnthonyJHowe, this has all my pages I created in iWeb.
There is another folder named “iWeb. But inside this there is one file named sites.rss, and that is all. This is replicated on my iDisk on my desktop.
Now in iWeb when I publish all to .Mac I receive a message that my site can be visited using my domain name and would I like to visit or announce the site. This lists all the pages I have published.
When I click on visit, it takes me to the .Mac welcome screen and not my site.
That’s how far I have got. It’s been over 72 hours since I registered the domain name.
I have searched and read some posts about this but I don’t seem to go any further with this.
Could you give some suggestions please and perhaps point me in the right direction?

This iWeb’s Domain Forwarding feature that has you publish the site to your .Mac account and then uses your domain name as an alias for your Web site should be relative simple procedure, but with quite a lot of posts on this subject, including myself is not easy to set up and it should be as iWeb 08 is a consumer product. There is little information about this at present.
Getting in touch with the registrars can be quite daunting and eventually you may get one person in the office that may be able to help you. Apple's information to suggest you contact the Registrar of you domain host to create a CNAME does not help an ordinary consumer either.
My issue with the Personal Domain feature is that it places the burden of making the switch on the user, and it is far from a straightforward process and my unfortunate lack of experience has led me to ask the question in the first place.
This discussion forum seems to be the only place that gets close to helping you out.
As it stands, the instructions from Apple are extremely vague, mostly advising you to contact your domain name registrar. They give no indication of what to expect or do if things that aren’t working correctly. And that's why a lot ask the question in the first place in this discussion forum. However those who have experience in dealing with these matters may not always see your post.
I can usually work out problems to do with computing, but to be honest this one has me beat and yet it should be and probably is a simple procedure to carry out. But there is either very little information to carry out the procedure or confusing information elsewhere that makes the mind boggle.
The link below is the only information I can find from Apple to help you, unless someone knows of other information.

  • IWEB Using Domain Email and not .me email

Hi - I registered a domain name with 123-reg.co.uk. I then transferred that to www.me.com by changing the CNAME settings so that the only one left was the CNAME for www.mydomain.co.uk. That all went well and the site is published OK. The problem I am having is when I add the "email me' button. I clicked on SITE INSPECTOR and changed the email address to [email protected] but I can't find anywhere to change the A record on iWEB so that I can get the email forwarded to my personal email.
I have looked around but can't seem to find a full answer to this question - it seems that you have to fudge it somehow back at 123-reg.co.uk by adding another CNAME record without the www. at the beginning. I feel like I am going round in circles so if anyone can help I would be grateful.
    Thanks

Things to do with forwarding e-mail has nothing whatsoever to do with iWeb and you won't find this in iWeb settings.
You need to go to your domain name registrar 123-reg.co.uk and set-up e-mail forwarding to your .me e-mail address, so that when someone sends you an e-mail through your domain e-mail address it gets forwarded to your .me address.
You can either use e-mail forwarding or go and configure your e-mail account to be able to use it, so you would set it up with a username and password so that it is either [email protected] or [email protected] Then go and set this e-mail account up on your mac and you will receive these e-mails.
I have a registered domain name for my business/practice and went and set up my e-mail to use for this, so rather than forwarding I have a separate e-mail account for all work and business related e-mails. I use my .me e-mail address for personal things.
Go back to 123-reg and alter these settings or contact their support and ask them to do it for you. It is not an iWeb issue.
