IWeb and Go Daddy

Hello
I have been trying to get a site I made in iweb08 to appear through go daddy to a personal domain. I think I have done this by using the Cname option and using mobileme as a host.
The site will appear if you type: www.lakesworkwear.com however will not appear when lakesworkwear.com is typed. Is there a way to resolve this.
Does mobile me give me the option off adding another site to do the same thing as I am currently on the free trial and it will only allow me to add one personal domain.
I would like to add a google search button to search my site only. It will not work though. Am i right in thinking that google has to let its spiders go over the site first?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
Tony

It's part of the godaddy instructions, under Forward Your Domain.

No, only one CNAME per MobileMe account. But you can use URL Forwarding as many times as you want.

  • IWeb 09 and Go Daddy...Help Needed Please!

I have read many of the posts on this question and still don't know the answer:
Is it possible to use iWeb 09 and use the built-in FTP to upload directly to my Go Daddy site?
I've tried and keep getting a "Testing failed. The directory/path couldn't be found."
So, my question is, can someone who has successfully uploaded from iWeb 09 to Go Daddy please tell me what to enter in the FTP Server Settings of iWeb? I would like to know the following:
SERVER ADDRESS (do you just use your site name, such as www.mysitehere.net or ??)
DIRECTORY PATH (some folks say "http://" but this doesn't work for me)
Also, do we just use PROTOCOL "FTP" or another?
I am very appreciative of any help here! I basically bought iLife 09 so I could update my site directly from iWeb. In the past I used Fetch, which worked but is a bit of a rigamarole. So, if we can do it directly with iWeb 09 it would be great.
Thanks for any help here! I'm very grateful!

I just did this last night for the first time. Watch the FTP loading tutorial for iweb, it helped.
    Publish to FTP
Put your site name in (what ever you want to put down)
Server address is your domainname.com (no www)
    User name
    password
    no directory/path
    FTP
Put your full website URL www.yourdomainname.com
This will get it onto your go daddy site. It will put all of the files in a folder called whatever you called your site name above. Your website will look funny but that is iWeb FTP for you. It will look like www.yourdomainname.com/www.yourdomainname.com/home.html
To fix that (I was told last night by go daddy) that I needed to log into godaddy and go to hosting on the left menue. then to manage account highlighted next to your domain name you want to manage. Then go into the folder with the site name you put in iweb and move everything in that folder to the root directory. Copy over anything in the root directory. When I did that the duplication of domain names went away and you are left with www.yourdomainname.com/home.html
If you have problems call godaddy. They can walk you through it. Only do that after you tested successfully.

  • Spiderability problem related to iWeb/Google/Go Daddy

I've read through a similar thread already, but I'm not sure how relevant it was.
First, here's my site (Go Daddy domain forwarded to .mac domain) www.riyvideo.com
Anyway, my site's links function fine in iWeb and on different browsers. However, Go Daddy's Traffic Blazer program is telling me that my site is not spiderable by Google because all seven of my internal links on the home page are broken. Traffic Blazer's report lists the seven broken links (in html), and indeed, when I click on each one listed, it takes me to .mac's "Page not Found" page on the Internet
Go Daddy support has been virtually worthless. The best they've come up with is that it's a code issue, which it may be, but I'm totally illiterate in html.
Bottom line: I want to maximize my Google accesibility, but I don't know how to repair or replace these broken links.
Thanks in advance for your input.

I'm curious. I'm not familiar with GoDaddy's traffic blazer product. But what links does it say are broken? Are they real links? I have seen some spidering anomalies that lead to endless loops and result in nonfunctional and incorrect URLs.
Example...Suppose you have a site that has 4 pages called One, Two, Three, and Four. In iWeb, you have the navigation menu turned on for each page. These are the only links. So the only links that should be needed for your site are as follows...
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/One.html
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Two.html
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Three.html
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Four.html
But the spidering process can also pick up the incorrect navigation links on any given page. For example, for the page "Two", the following are incorrect links...
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Two/One.html
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Two/Three.html
    http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/sitename/Two/Four.html
I think these are the "internal" links that the spidering process is picking up incorrectly. This may be a result of how iWeb codes the links as 'href="../sitename/One.html". But in any case, these links can be disregarded. Just make sure that they are getting the real links.

  • How do I access iWeb and iDVD on my new Macbook Air?

I just bought a new MacBook Air and read that I can load iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand from the app store, which I did. I don't see iWeb or iDVD anywhere, on the MacBook or in the app store.
I guess iWeb and iDVD are part of the iLife 11 package, which does not come with the MacBook Air (thought it did), but I wanted to check in case I am overlooking something.

If you have another Mac that you can connect to your Air with a local area network or int the Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, you would be able to run the iLife 11 installer disk on the other Mac and select the Air as the location for the installation.

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • IWeb and multiple users

So i'm trying to see how i can set up a website in iweb and edit that website from multiple computers and it stay up-to-date. is there a way to do this?

thanks, that does help a bit, i think i can figure that out. my next question is what happens to my existing iweb sites if i try to open a different DOMAIN file from a different source?
ie: i have like over 20 iWeb sites in my iWeb 2.0 that are in a DOMAIN file stored in the default location. if i go to open (by double clicking) a DOMAIN file from an iDisk for instance to edit it and it opens iWeb, what will happen with my other sites? and will this set that iDisk DOMAIN file location as my default?

You haven't a problem. You simply did not read the iWeb Help :

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.

  • Problems with iWeb and mobile me

    Ciao everyone,
I've been having a ridiculous amount of problems with my mobile me account and my iweb. 2 weeks ago I was fine with my iweb and mobile me but all of a sudden my iweb would say it publish but it really doesn't publish. The I went to the mac store a couple of times and thought I would get answers but I didnt get any answer even though I had a couple of one to one visits with a couple of stores in NYC. So when i publish it it shows that it published in my www.me.com/idisk/iweb folder but then it doesn't show in my website. Then one guy told me that I should just recreate a new site but copy and past all the old information to the new one. Now it won't publish at all because I guess its a lot of information to publish at once. I get an error message saying error iweb was not able to publish please try again later. Any help?

    Hey you guys,
Thanks for the help, but I did try to publish all to my iweb and it didn't work. I do try to view my published website through the file/visit published site and for some reason only my intro page is there then when i go into the main page i get an error page. I also did go to my finder/Go/idisk/myidisk/iweb/site/iweb and saw my websites folder. Everything seems to be in it. I tried to take a screen shot of what is in my folder but I can't post pictures. In my folder I have a folder for gallery, index.html, site, shites.rss, and my website folder usvisualswebsite
Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating. I also created another test site with nothing in it and published it and it says it finishes publishing but the blank test page isn't there.
