IWeb and iCloud vs MobileMe

IWeb says to use MobileMe to publish.  I use iCloud and MobileMe is inactive.  What do I do?

iCloud and MobileMe are 2 different accounts in the System preferences on your computer.
Check if you are signed in at MMe also.
Unless you signed up for iCloud only and not MMe.
If MMe is not available for new users, you cannot use it and have to find another host.
Finding a webhost is discussed extensively in this forum, so you may want to search for it.

I got a chance to look at it on a PC.  Totally hosed up. It loads incorrectly then parts of it go blank.
I have a site that is based very much on one of the built-in templates and it works fine on the same PC.  It contains only text boxes, image placeholders, and images with "picture frame" borders.  Nothing fancy, no overlays, no extra code or anything. I haven't looked much at the other templates so I don't know if yours is mostly a template or how much you may have modified one or what tricks you may have done to get the look you wanted.  Whatever it is, IE does not like it.  Unfortunately, you can't really ignore them as was suggested; they make up a large part of your audience.

  • IWeb and iCloud

If I sign up for iWeb, will it immediatly kill my iWeb pages?
I know I need to find anotherweb hosting service by June, but what happens if I sighn up now? Will Apple immediatly kill the pages?
(Yes, indeed, iCloud is not an alternative to .Mac. Having a onestep process to publish pictures from iPhoto to Gallery was an example of great Apple thinking, understang what consumers want. I guess Apple is changing, so many folks will have to look for other solutions and I can no longer suggest Apple to my customers)

Even after you migrate to iCloud, your iDisk and the iWeb sites hosting will continue as before until June 30 2012.

  • Iweb and homepage url

Hello! I am very new to iweb. I would like my url to look like: http://web.mac.com/user name, but instead it looks like: http://web.mac.com/user name/Site/Welcome.html.
I am sure there is a very simple way to fix this, but I can't figure it out. Any help would be appreciated!

Unfortunately not. That is the way that websites made in iWeb and published to MobileMe will look like. The url will always be http://web.me.com/username/sitename/Welcome.html.
It is just that you have to call your site something in iWeb. It won't accept it otherwise, so you could shorten it even more to something like S so it would then be web.me.com/username/S/Welcome.html. The only other way is to register a domain name and then use masked forwarding so all you get as a url is www.yourdomainname.com.

Wanting to move to single-click publishing (supported by MobileMe), I now find it is not supported by iCloud and Mountain Lion. I feel cheated, having bought it mainly for this purpose! The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

  • ICloud, iWeb and MobileMe

I'm now on MobileMe. When I move to iCloud, will I instantly lose the ability to access iWeb and my iWebsites? I have a lot of them!

Firstly, your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? iCloud requires Lion 10.7.2. If you have that, please amend your signature to prevent confusion. If you don't have Lion you may want to consider upgrading if your Mac meets the specifications.
If you migrate to iCloud your iDisk, website hosting and Gallery will be unaffected and can be accessed exactly as before (the migration process may sign you out in System Preferences>MobileMe and you will need to sign back in).
However MobileMe will be terminated and the contents of your iDisk, including your websites, erased at the end of June. iWeb will work with other hosting services - please see this page:
    http://rfwilmut.net.migrate2
If you cannot upgrade to Lion you can still migrate from MobileMe, but only your email will work and you will have to set that up manually: calendar, contacts and bookmarks syncing will not work on Snow Leopard. Please see this page:

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

When MobileMe goes down the drain, you will need to move your website to standard hosting. Depending on your site size, I recommend A Small Orange, as the Tiny hosting plan they have is big enough for most iWeb sites and much cheaper then shelling out $6 a month for most of the other big names, and if you check out their forum, several of the members have coupon codes in thier signatures. Also, their customer service is great and very fast in getting back to you.
To upload, I publish the iWeb site to a folder, then using Cyberduck upload it to the host. Cyberduck beats iWeb's FTP uploader because Cyberduck only replaces updated pages, instead of uploading the entire site.
    I hope this helps!

  • I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, how can i publish to iCloud?

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • MobileMe, .Mac, PPC, and iCloud -- oh my!  Am I doing this right?

OK, hopefully, I'm not making this more complicated than it is.
    Right now I have:
a ".mac" account that I use as my Apple ID because that's what I started purchasing items with in the Apple store before MobileMe came out.  So all iTunes purchases, music, movies, iBooks, etc., are under my ".mac" account.
a MobileMe account that contains all of my calendars, contacts, etc.
an iPhone 4 (no plans to upgrade to 4S...am waiting for next generation)
    an iPad 2 (WiFi only)
an iMac G5 with a PPC chip running 10.5.8 (it will be awhile before I can upgrade to another computer that will have an Intel chip and get Lion -- so I'm sitting on this iMac right now).
What I want to be able to do:
use iCloud for mail, calendars, notes, apps, contacts, purchased music, etc. -- you know, all of the stuff iCloud is supposed to do.
keep my contacts synced with my computer, iPhone, and iPad.
If I understand iCloud correctly, it wants me to sign in with my MobileMe account, then on my iPhone and iPad go into the Store and sign in with my .mac account.  Then it wants me to move my MobileMe account to iCloud, but before I can do that, all of my contacts, which were in MobileMe, have been erased from my iPhone (interestingly though, all of my calendars that were synced through MobileMe are on the iPhone).
I would like to have everything absolutely clean under one ID...I think the easiest way to accomplish what I want is to:
"rename" my Apple ID from the ".mac" to a different name that I can also use as my iCloud info for my past and future iTunes purchases (is this possible)?
have my iPhone and iPad "hard sync" with my computer to have my contacts, calendars, and other current MobileMe info consistent between the iPad 2, the iPhone and the computer.
Am I making it too complicated for myself?  Is there something else I could be doing to make this process easier?  Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Apple, if you are reading this, this APPLE ID MESS IS A DISASTER!!!  Shame on you for screwing long-dedicated customers who inadvertantly now have multiple Apple ID's like this due your switches from mobile me, to .mac to whatever else.
SJ is turning in his grave.

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

  • IWeb and MobileMe Gallery

I am trying to upload pictures from the MobileMe Gallery.  I have albums published but when I move the MobileMe widget to the web page I am creating it reads "No albums or movies". Please help.

I've jumpstarted the MMe widget with the following 2 fixes before:
    Try this:
    quit iWeb
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.
Ahother method that worked one time was:
delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
HOWEVER, a way to embed your MMe gallery and not worry about fixes is to go online and get the URL of your MMe gallery and plug it into the following code in an HTML snippet:
    <script src="http://gallery.mac.com/g/flash/photowidget_iefix.js" type="text/javascript" charset="utf-8"></script>
    <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
    writeObj("http://gallery.me.com/MobileMeName/XXXXXX", 226, 199);
    </script>
Thanks to Wyodor for the code.

  • IWeb and MobileMe communication error! How to fix?

During work with iWeb, after I published site on MobileMe, I lost connections with my MM Gallery - widget window says "no movies/albums". Anybody can help?

That happens frequently.  One method I have used to bring it back is to close iWeb and
1 - delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
2 - go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
3 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
4 - login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
5 - login with your correct username and password.
6 - launch iWeb and try again.

  • Aperture and iCloud - what happens to MobileMe galleries?

Anyone have any insight on whether icloud will host aperture photo galleries?

It is absolutely, inequitably wrong for Apple to to abandon all the MobileMe users with its faltered plan to discontinue the service.  Synching aside, it was and is the best and most economical way to share files and data for small companies like mine.  I was screwed when Apple discontinued dotMac after having spent days and weeks developing a web site utilizing the now defunct service.  I purchase the 60GB plan at roughly $200.00 per year and It's like DejaVu all over again.  Shame on you Apple if you stop supporting this wonderful product.
I remember a company that was once proud to say "We think outside the box!"
If that were true, then you would not pull the carpet out from under us again and again.
The following info "Information about the MobileMe transition" Last Modified: June 06, 2011 Article: HT4597 is useless for planning my future business moves.
    Summary
    What's happening to MobileMe?
Effective June 6, 2011, if you had an active MobileMe account, your service has been automatically extended through June 30, 2012, at no additional charge. After this, the MobileMe service will no longer be available.
    Products Affected
    MobileMe
What will happen to the content I have on MobileMe?
Apple has announced a new service called iCloud which will be available this fall and free for iOS 5 and OS X Lion users. When you sign up for iCloud, you'll be able to keep your me.com or mac.com email address and move your MobileMe mail, contacts, calendars, and bookmarks to the new service.
When iCloud becomes available this fall, more details and instructions will be provided on how to make the move.
Can I create a new MobileMe account?
You can no longer create a new 60-day trial account or start a new subscription using a code contained in a MobileMe box. However, if you have a Family Pack subscription, you can still create new family member accounts
I think "alansky1" has the right idea:
Please visit the MobileMe Feedback Page and let Apple know how you feel about this issue. It may do no good, but it certainly can't hurt.
