IWeb and iCloud

If I sign up for iWeb, will it immediatly kill my iWeb pages?
I know I need to find anotherweb hosting service by June, but what happens if I sighn up now? Will Apple immediatly kill the pages?
(Yes, indeed, iCloud is not an alternative to .Mac. Having a onestep process to publish pictures from iPhoto to Gallery was an example of great Apple thinking, understang what consumers want. I guess Apple is changing, so many folks will have to look for other solutions and I can no longer suggest Apple to my customers)

Even after you migrate to iCloud, your iDisk and the iWeb sites hosting will continue as before until June 30 2012.

  • IWeb and iCloud vs MobileMe

IWeb says to use MobileMe to publish.  I use iCloud and MobileMe is inactive.  What do I do?

iCloud and MobileMe are 2 different accounts in the System preferences on your computer.
Check if you are signed in at MMe also.
Unless you signed up for iCloud only and not MMe.
If MMe is not available for new users, you cannot use it and have to find another host.
Finding a webhost is discussed extensively in this forum, so you may want to search for it.

The other thing they don't tell you is that Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac, and I am considering uninstalling it for that reason - do I get my money back?!

You stated; "Mountain Lion disables OfficeMac"
    That is not true.
Mountain Lion does not have Rosetta so it is not capable of executing PowerPC code. If you have MS Office 2004 that is coded in PowerPC code and will not run in Mountain Lion. What you need to do is upgrade to an Intel version of Office.

  • HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

When MobileMe goes down the drain, you will need to move your website to standard hosting. Depending on your site size, I recommend A Small Orange, as the Tiny hosting plan they have is big enough for most iWeb sites and much cheaper then shelling out $6 a month for most of the other big names, and if you check out their forum, several of the members have coupon codes in thier signatures. Also, their customer service is great and very fast in getting back to you.
To upload, I publish the iWeb site to a folder, then using Cyberduck upload it to the host. Cyberduck beats iWeb's FTP uploader because Cyberduck only replaces updated pages, instead of uploading the entire site.
    I hope this helps!

  • ICloud, iWeb and MobileMe

I'm now on MobileMe. When I move to iCloud, will I instantly lose the ability to access iWeb and my iWebsites? I have a lot of them!

Firstly, your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? iCloud requires Lion 10.7.2. If you have that, please amend your signature to prevent confusion. If you don't have Lion you may want to consider upgrading if your Mac meets the specifications.
If you migrate to iCloud your iDisk, website hosting and Gallery will be unaffected and can be accessed exactly as before (the migration process may sign you out in System Preferences>MobileMe and you will need to sign back in).
However MobileMe will be terminated and the contents of your iDisk, including your websites, erased at the end of June. iWeb will work with other hosting services - please see this page:
    http://rfwilmut.net.migrate2
If you cannot upgrade to Lion you can still migrate from MobileMe, but only your email will work and you will have to set that up manually: calendar, contacts and bookmarks syncing will not work on Snow Leopard. Please see this page:

I missed the transition of iWeb to iCloud. My website is now offline and any attempts lead me to closed MobilMe pages. Anyone know how I can reconfigure my iWeb with iCloud so I can get my site back online?

iCloud isn't capable of hosting websites.
You need to sign up with a hosting service...

    ...and then republish your site...

Using iWeb '08, you will need to publish to a local folder and upload the files using an FTP application...

If you don't have a domain name, most hosting services will supply one free. If you do have one, you will need to contact the registrar to get it forwarded to the new server.

  • Would like to re-create the webpages created with iWeb to iCloud and post

Would like to re-create the webpages created with iWeb to iCloud and post to the internet

Unfortunately, iCloud does not support the hosting of webpages. You will need to find a 3rd party web host in order to publish your web sites.
Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder. Then upload to your host with an FTP application like CyberDuck
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.

  • PLEASE CONTINUE iWeb (and site) and Gallery

I bought a mac so easy it was to share my photos and website with iweb and Gallery, and able to make DVDs very easily.
I bought a mobile.me account for it, but now I'm not very interested icloud offers too I can not publish my site and create beautiful photo galleries to share with my family and friends (I do not like Facebook).
Please continue with iweb and gallery as me.com!!! Everyone says me that it was very nice
    Thanks

  • What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb (Rumoured)?...

What happens to my websites created in iWeb when iCloud replaces IWeb as is rumoured... they will be lost?

To tell you te truth We should should've all expected this...
With no new updates to iWeb in a good couple of years, even though it's an amazing piece of software enjoyed by million. It upsets me no end to see apple continually doing this and what have they done exactly? Left goodness knows how many customers worried and uncertain about a product they love and rely on, I do anyway.
One of the main reasons I have a Mac isn't only the build quality and the OS, although that does have a fair amount to do with it. The main reason for me moving to Apple and investing in a machine all those years ago was iWeb, being a creative control freak, I love to be able to get out my Mac, open iWeb and in minutes create a new launch page for a new mix, upgrade some of my services a customers asked for, recreate any aspect of how I present myself to people at a click of a button... I know you can upload to FTP server but phooey, why damage a good thing.
This as annoyed me no end... so I'll not doubt I'll be taking it out on an Apple employee tomorrow when I take back my blown power pack for my MacBook pro, my third one in 8 months... I sign of the way apple is going?
PS as for iOS 5 ... Seriously underwhelmed, we've been given features 90% of which should have been launched in iOS3!.. Oh, although I can't handle windows anymore, have you see. The new Windows 8 layer? Watch out Apple, he's behind you

  • What happens to iweb once icloud arrives

Will I still be able to publish photos on iweb after icloud takes over on the 30th June 2012 or will i have to move to a new hosting company?

Gold fish looks and acts just like iWeb

Sandvox is nice, but it's Template based, so if you like Google's Homepage format... then this is good for you.
    Pros use Dreamweaver.
As far as iWeb and site hosting....
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4597
Apple is no longer Hosting your websites.
Your website is CLOSED. They are not hosting websites anymore. They host your iClud data.
You still have your files on your machine, and can publish to a NEW server, if you like. You must first open an account with a domain provider and host, then publish to the new website with your info.
I use these guys, because it allows me to register in whatever country I like, and they are not blocked by China:
    http://www.instra.com/en/hosting/web-hosting-packages
You  may also try Go-Daddy, or OnLineInstitute
You may want to check with our cable company, or your internet provider. You can get some good deals if you are already a customer.
Here is the How to, for changing your publish information over to the new service. (first you need a provider).

  • HT1107 Since Mobile Me is moving to iCloud, how do you publish a domain in iweb with iCloud?

    Hello,
I am trying to set up iWeb to publish to my own domain, and see info about doing that with Mobile Me, but since Mobile Me is moving to iCloud, how do you set it up with iCloud?  I just want to be able to publish my website directly to my own domain with iWeb.  Thanks!

As you now know iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
NOTE: the iLife 11 boxed version Is no longer available at the online Apple Store.  To get a copy you'll have to try Amazon.com or eBay.com.

  • What happened to iWeb and iDvD?

    Hello,
I was watching the Steve's keynotes when I came to know that Apple had a iWeb application where you can create webpages. Apple doesn't lose complete functionality of a particular application unless they found an entirely better way of doing that job.
like iCloud as a replacement for mobileMe. What happened to iWeb and iDVD? Are there any latest substitutes for them. Is there any Apple software which can help me make web pages and stuff??

If you plan on using iDVD at some time and don't have it currently get a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailer like Amazon.com.
    Why 09 instead of 11:
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
