IWeb and Mobile Me Ending June 30

I have been developing a website using iWeb.  I have not published the website yet.  With the June 30 end of Mobile Me, I am assuming that this doesn't affect iWeb, but only ends the possibility of publishing it to Mobile Me.  Am I correct?

That's correct.
With iWeb '08 you can publish to a local folder and upload the files using an FTP application...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
If you upgrade to iWeb V 3 you have two options...
http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html
You will need to search for an iLife disk online since Apple don't sell it any more.
Some pointers for finding suitable hosting...

  • Simple explanation of what is happening with iWeb and Mobile Me. Can anyone explain this simply and if our existing web site can be hosted elsewhere, if so can it still be updated using iWeb. Any advice very welcome

    We have a website that has run successfully using iWeb and Mobile me. We understand Mobile Me is being discontinued from June. From this forum it seems iWeb also is not being supported any more. So can the existing site be hosted successfully with another provider or is it best to start again. If so any advice on options would be very welcome;
    Thanks
    PB

For the most part if you just get a new webhost you can continue to run with iWeb. Since you are still running Tiger iWeb should work just fine for you. You will simply need to publish your website to a folder or with the built in FTP in iWeb. Apple has simply quit updating iWeb & there will come a day when iWeb quits working in the later OS's whatever kitty comes after Lion.

  • Problems with iWeb and mobile me

    Ciao everyone,
I've been having a ridiculous amount of problems with my mobile me account and my iweb. 2 weeks ago I was fine with my iweb and mobile me but all of a sudden my iweb would say it publish but it really doesn't publish. The I went to the mac store a couple of times and thought I would get answers but I didnt get any answer even though I had a couple of one to one visits with a couple of stores in NYC. So when i publish it it shows that it published in my www.me.com/idisk/iweb folder but then it doesn't show in my website. Then one guy told me that I should just recreate a new site but copy and past all the old information to the new one. Now it won't publish at all because I guess its a lot of information to publish at once. I get an error message saying error iweb was not able to publish please try again later. Any help?

    Hey you guys,
Thanks for the help, but I did try to publish all to my iweb and it didn't work. I do try to view my published website through the file/visit published site and for some reason only my intro page is there then when i go into the main page i get an error page. I also did go to my finder/Go/idisk/myidisk/iweb/site/iweb and saw my websites folder. Everything seems to be in it. I tried to take a screen shot of what is in my folder but I can't post pictures. In my folder I have a folder for gallery, index.html, site, shites.rss, and my website folder usvisualswebsite
Any other suggestions? This is really frustrating. I also created another test site with nothing in it and published it and it says it finishes publishing but the blank test page isn't there.

  • IWeb and Mobile Me gallery?

I am using iWeb to create my web site but publishing my photos from iPhoto to the mobile me gallery. In iWeb I am using the Black theme where it puts the main links to the different pages across the top. I would like to add a link there that goes to the gallery.me.com page. how do I do this??
    Thanks for the help.

iWeb: you don't need to save anything from the iDisk - iWeb does not open html files. Your iWeb sites are held in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb in a file called Domain. So even after MobileMe terminates you will still be able to open iWeb and see your sites, you just won't be able to publish them to MobileMe. You can publish them to any other webspace - please see this page:
    http://rfwilmut.net/migrate2
Gallery: if your albums arre synced with iPhoto or Aperture then the pictures are on your Mac anyway. If not, and you don't have local copies (which is always a risky procedure) you will have to download each picture separately. Alternatively there is an online photo gallery service called ZangZing which provides an easy import facility from various other services including MobileMe's Gallery. It's free until June 2012 after which the first 2GB is free with escalating price levels starting at $5 per month or $50 a year.

  • What has happened to iWeb and mobile me?

    Hi
am looking to create a website.  thought I'd use iWeb but cannot find detail on Mobile me.  Has it all been superseeded?
    Thanks

Apple's iWeb, part of iLife, was originally designed only to upload to MobileMe in a seamless one-click operation. With its easy for methods for creating basic websites with no technical knowledge it enabled thousands of non-technical users to create and publish their personal websites.
With the demise of MobileMe this hosting has ceased. Up to and including iWeb '08, it was only possible to publish to other hosts by 'Publishing to a folder' and then uploading that local folder to a website host using a separate FTP client. From iWeb '09 an FTP method was built-in, making it easier to publish to a host other than MobileMe.
In order to upload your existing site in iWeb '09 and above:
Click on the name of the site in the sidebar: the publishing settings pane will open. Set 'Publish to' to 'FTP'. Enter the name of the site and a contact address (if desired).
In the 'FTP Server Settings' section you will need to know the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. Your site will be published in a folder with its name at root level of the server, with an index.html file at root level (which will overwrite any index.html file which may be there already). The 'Directory/Path' field may need to include a path such as '/webspace/' or 'ht_docs/' - this is dependent on your hosting service and they should tell you this. If you want to publish within a folder you can add that to the path.
You can then click the 'Test connection' button so that iWeb can check that it can get access to your server space. You should enter the URL of the site in the 'URL' field so that rss feeds and internal links have the correct address.
To publish using an earlier version of iWeb:
From the File menu choose 'Publish to a folder'. You should create a folder somewhere convenient specifically for this and choose it when publishing to a folder: this folder should not contain anything else.
You now need an FTP program (FTP is the 'protocol' used for uploading) to upload the contents of the folder to your server.Cyberduck is free (donation requested): Transmit is $34 but I think better. You will need the server address (your hosting service can tell you that), and your username and password for that service. You can drag the contents of your folder to your webspace, or create a folder there and drag the contents to that if you prefer.
Some facilities that iWeb provided when hosted on MobileMe will not work on other servers: comments on weblogs and photos, password-protecting your site (some hosts may provide this), searching in the weblog, and a hits counter (again, some hosts can provide code for this). Slideshows in iWeb will work on other hosts than MobileMe (they use different code when FTPing which doesn't depend on scripts hosted on MobileMe as the MobileMe version does); however there is an issue with the 'buttons' which control the slideshow which are images hosted on me.com - these depend on images which used to be hosted on MobileMe. The poster 'Old Toad' on the Apple Forums has provided a workaround, described at http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No.26.html. Although iWeb continues to work Apple have removed it from sale, which is another point to consider before committing to it.
If you have not yet started a website and are tempted to use iWeb, I would advise against it; as it's no longer for sale and won't be updated, there is always the possibility that a future system upgrade may break it. The nearest programs to iWeb in facilities and general ease of use are RapidWeaver, which I think is preferable to iWeb anyway, and EverWeb, which is designed to be similar to iWeb but with more facilities.

  • IWeb and Mobile Me are exasperate me

I have a personal web site from 2 years. Since now it was hosted at my home server. But I really want to use "comment" part of this site.
I change DNS settings of my site to point to web.me.com, buy and setup a "mobile me" account, upload the site.
    And..........NOTHING.
Apple, what's going with you guys?
Two days I send you a mails with complains of your non-working service!
If you have a problems, tell us. We are loving "snap-off" apple, and we support this lovely mark.
But don't throw us, when you see shine of gold from sells iPhones.
I'm 4'th day without personal site.
    This situation is soooo ridicules.
Actually, i'm at end of my patience
Can anyone from Apple's team explain honestly this situation?
    Thanks in advance.

    This is a user-to-user forum.
Apple does not respond to complaints in this forum. If at all.
They watch, but they won't tell you.
BTW, your problem is not unique. Read the other topics in this forum.

  • Iweb and mobile me

iweb wont allow you to post a web page any more. Each time i try and post it takes me to the mobile me sign in, and I dont have an account and it wont allow you to sign up for on. Any idals ?

MobileMe will be going away soon, so all iWeb features involving MobileMe will cease working at some point.  (And for folks like you who don't have an account, won't ever be working.)
Fortunately, you can get a site somewhere else and upload from iWeb via FTP.  Select the site in iWeb, choose FTP Server from the Publish To pop-up and fill in the information provided by your web service provider.

  • Why did Steve decide to eliminate superior products like MobileMe and iWeb and not just raise the price?

I've been looking into moving 3 web sites that I easily created using iWeb and Mobile me and it is unbarably difficult to use what non Apple users have to put up with.   I was so happy that I could throw a site together for someone and it would just work.   Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality.    Why didn't Apple just raise the price if it was unprofitable?     MobileMe and iWeb are a GREAT service to Apple customers.    I feel this discontinuation is very unfortunate for many.

Actually, the discontinuation of MobileMe is an opportunity to move on to more professional website hosting and management.  MMe is just too social networking oriented and lacking in serious webstite hosting capability.
Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality
You've got to be kidding!  Web hosting that has more hosting features that MMe had is readily available for as little as $3.95/mo. That's only $48/year - aboiut 1/2 of what MMe costs.  Included are a domain name, unlimited storage and transfer, subdomains, multiple email addresses, advanced security features and, something MobileMe never had, 24/7 actual ear-to-ear customer support! What a novel idea.  Actually quickly contacting and talking to a real person to get help on a problem.
I moved about 30 websites from MMe to my new host in about an hour once the new server was setup. This describes how I did it: iW13 - Easily Transfer Website Folders From MobileMe to a 3rd Party Server.
This tutorial explains how I host multiple sites with just one domain name: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb. The same can be done with subdomains but the folder method I used was easer in my opinion.
Depending on your website's design and intented use iWeb an still be a viable web builder.  However, for more complex websites and connecting with mobile users one will have to begin using other applications.  Read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
You can move you 3 websites to a new host in no time and save money doing it.

  • RE: iweb and idisk

    Hi
I wonder if anyone could advise me about using iweb and mobile me (trial version). I am completely new to mobile me. I am running Tiger most up to date version and iweb 1.1.2. I read that iweb works seamlessly with mobile me. I can't seem to publish my site - it looks like it just times out but after the message about iweb publishing the site and that i can work and it will run in the background I don't get any other message. In idisk I can see the files for the site, but any idea why it doesn't seem to publish ? I am also logged into mobileme in system prefs.
    Appreciate any pointers
    Thanks

If you have large movie files or many movie files on a page that makes it difficult to edit and republish you might look at the method used in this demo page, Opening Item in New Specially Sized Window. The files are uploaded to the server only once and are not involved with any republishing of the site. This second demo page, Embedding Movie Exported Out of Quicktime via "Export to Web" also works the same way, upload only once.

Do you mean that you can't open iPhoto or iWeb or that you simply can't access the MobileMe account (which fully came to an end on June 30th)?
I'm confused - you were aware that MobileMe was coming to an end? You should have backed up your data... too late now. I just got messages that MobileMe was no longer available so I deleted those accounts. Have no idea why iWeb and iPhoto won't open, though.

  • My Outlook/iCloud calendar invites to others appear to work on my end and sync with my PC and mobile, but when other people "accept" the invite, it will not populate/add in to their calendar. How can i fix this without turning off iCloud?

My Outlook/iCloud calendar invites to others appear to work on my end and sync with my PC and mobile, but when other people "accept" the invite, it will not populate/add in to their calendar. How can I fix this without turning off iCloud?
I am at a new office that uses Outlook (not Outlook Exchange) which does not sync with my mobile... I just got iCloud set up on my PC to sync my contacts, calendar, reminders, etc... The sync worked (not without flaws, but the other issues seem solvable... I think), so that i can now see all my appointments on both my phone and on my PC. The problem I am having is that iCloud moved all of my calendar items from Outlook into iCloud calendar and now when I send out meeting/calendar invites the recipients may accept them, but the meeting does not get added to their calendar. This is a huge problem and may mean that i need to turn off iCloud.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
    Thanks!

I am replying to my own post here as I seem to have fixed the problem.
I do have some calendars that are shared. Some of those are shared with users who have time zone support turned on. So i activated time zone support on my iphone, then deleted my icloud subscription. I then signed in to icloud again and voila... problem solved.
It is a weird one as the other calendar views were always fine and when you opened an event that appeared in the wrong day (on list view), the correct date of the event was shown in the information...
one more bug in a complicated system I guess

  • IWeb, IPhoto and Mobile Me Galleries

I have several websites on mobile me and also with go daddy. I have a picky problem with thumbnails and Mobile me Galleries. Here's the workflow and problem:
I have a group of videos that are related. Instead of using a flash playlist (IPhones can't play them), I open IPhoto and drag say 10 videos into IPhoto and create a new album. I then published that album to my mobile me gallery. All is fine except that the video thumbnails are not set wher I want them. Mobile me automatically sets the first frame as the thumbnail and since I fade up from black, the first frame is black. So once the gallery is up on my IDisk, I open IWeb and create an album page. WHile IPhoto is open, I drag the Album to my IWeb page. Again, all of the thumbnails are black. I double click on the album and the new page opens and all of the individual videos are there. I click one and then in the inspector, I choose quicktime and I can move the slider to select a new thumbnail (POster Frame) All is perfect. Here are the problems:
    1. When I publish to mobile me or a folder and upload that folder to my godaddy site, it wants to re-upload to the gallery which takes a HUGE amount of time.Is there anyway to only upload the posterframe changes to the existing gallery? BTW, these changes to my IWeb page do NOT make changes to the Gallery thumbnails themselves, only to the reference within IWeb.
    2. If I do this for another page, involving a new gallery of videos, it wipes out my original thumbnails that I set for the first set of galleries. When I go back to IWeb to re-select thumbnails for the second time and re-upload those pages to Mobile Me or Godaddy, It sends the whole gallery up, taking ANOTHER whole bunch of time to do it.
Any ideas on how to permanently set the thumbnails in Mobile Me? I'm sure you can't change them there.
    Jeff

You uploaded the pictures and movies twice.
    Once to the MobileMe gallery.
The second time to the Webserver.
Here's a solution to soften the pain.
Display a MobileMe gallery page. Set the display you want.
Copy the URL in the browser addressfield.
In iWeb create a page and add a HTML Snippet.
Paste this line of code in the HTML Snippet and use the URL of your MMe gallery page as the src :
    <iframe src="http://url.to.MMeGallery.html" frameborder="0" width="500" height="500" scrolling="no" allowTransparency="true"></iframe>
Adjust the width and height numbers.
Now you have your MMe gallery in an iWeb page without the trouble of uploading twice.

  • Can I still create new sites in iweb and publish them to mobile me?

Can I still create new sites in iweb and publish them to mobile me? Also Can the sites not contain movies or photos, or just not a full gallery?

You can have as many sites and domain names on a single MMe account. However, only one site can use the CNAME domain name forwarding while the others must use URL forwarding.
Multiple Sites with Domain Name(s) in a Single MobileMe Account
Here's how to have multiple sites in a single MMe account with one or more sites having a domain name.
    A. All sites are in the same Domain.sites2 files
1 - only one site can use the CNAME method of domain name forwarding and it must the top site in the left hand pane of iWeb.
2 - the other sites must use URL domain name forwarding which directs the domain name to the site's full MMe URL, http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/SiteName, or, if there is no domain name, just MobileMe's full URL.
    B. Each site is in its own Domain.sites2 file.
Again, only one site can use CNAME forwarding. This presents a problem since CNAME forwarding directs the domain name to the basic MMe account URL: http://web.me.com/MMe_Username/ which uses an index.html file in the root folder of the account, iDisk/Web/Sites. Each time a new site is published or an existing site uses the File->Publish Entire Site a new index.html file is created in that root directory, iDisk/Web/Sites folder, directing the browser to that particular site. This file is what the CNAME method uses to find the site it represents.
Therefore some steps must be taken to assure that the index.html file in the MMe Accounts root directory always points to the correct site. This can be accomplished is three ways.
1 - don't use the CNAME method. Just use URL forwarding . This, IMO, is the simplest method as it doesn't requre any additional effort on the user once the domain name has been set up.
2 - use the following method suggested by Wyodor in this topic: Is it possible to have multiple sites when using ur Domain name?
    In iWeb domainfile 1:
Create a dummy site : _dummy
    with a blank page.
Create your working site : Whatever
    Add pages
Publish both Sites to the same same location on the same server.
Your _dummy site is now the default Site.
    Check.
    In iWeb domainfile 2:
    Create/Use your CurrentSite.
Move a page to the top of the Site and back. Publish the Site.
iWeb will create a new index.html file in the root of the server and from now on CurrentSite is the default site.
    Check.
From now on, never move your Whatever Site to the top of the list in the iWeb sidebar and never change the page in the _dummy site.
Simply do not touch your _dummy ever again. And never forget that.
3 - use Ethmoid's suggested method in Using two sites - setting one up with separate domain? or republishing the entire site that uses CNAME forwarding. Just making a minor change and publishing the site changes does not create a new index.html file.
The entire site must be republsihing in order to get that new site.
Or keep a copy of the CNAME site's index.html file on your Mac and replace it manually in the iDisk/Web/Sites fodler when necessary.
NOTE: the CNAME method provides a shorter URL: http://www.DomainName.com/Site_Name/PageName. CNAME does not have masking.
The URL forwarding displays the full MMe URL:
    http://web.me.com/MMeUsername/Domain_Name/PageName.
With domain name masking that will be shortened to:
http://www.Domain_Name.com for every page of your site.
However, visitors will only be able to bookmark and enter at the first page of the site. If a page is refreshed the visitor is taken back to the first page. Also search engines will only be able to index the first page of the site.
