IWeb and Networked Blogs

Anyone know how to get iWeb working with Networked Blogs?  I specifically want to be able to update the blog on my website and have it automatically go to my FaceBook.
It tells me it's a valid RSS feed BUT it won't work because:
This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feedreaders could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.
Your feed appears to be encoded as "UTF-8", but your server is reporting "US-ASCII" [help]
line 2, column 0: Use of unknown namespace: http://www.apple.com/iweb [help]
<rss xmlns:iweb="http://www.apple.com/iweb" version="2.0">

Don't tell me that I need to import all of them before...... I can't!

If the network drive is attached to another computer then you have to mount the drive on the Finder desktop of the computer you are running iWeb on. Use the Finder Go menu to connect to the other computer. You may also need to set System Preferences>Sharing to allow file sharing over the network.

You haven't a problem. You simply did not read the iWeb Help :

  • HT4686 How can I publish my website developed using iWeb and have all functions of the blog page work as it did with MobileMe?

I have developed a website using iWeb and it includes a blog page selected from stock pages in iWeb.  I'm publishing it with GoDaddy and when I do that the interactive functions of the blog page don't work. (Adding comments and photos as well as searching).  Is there any simple way to host this site somewhere so that those functions work?

No, because all those functions were MobileMe only and now that MobileMe has gone, they won't function any longer.
To enable these to function, you either need to add them yourself or change your blogging platform to something else such as WordPress etc., and create a link from iWeb to your WordPress blog or embed the blog page using iframe into your iWeb site.
Commenting systems such as Disqus or http://www.intensedebate.com work quite well.

  • IWeb '09 and WordPress blogging

As a volunteer, I currently have two web-sites for separate annual public events published by iWeb and hosted by GoDaddy. Each event is autonomous from the other. One event is for a history-based reunion in the summer, the other for a winter festival.
If I were to create a blog on WordPress.com (which I assume to be a free service) for each event, is there a way to connect the WordPress.com blogs to their respective event web-sites, so that each site could show a "blog" page in the header and allow a visitor to visit the blog without leaving the event's web-site?

I found this tip on the iWeb Unlimited tips blog, and was wondering if this could be used to do what I was asking about in my Original Post in this thread:

  • IWeb and Blogger (or any other blogging site)

Novice potential blogger here and NO HTML knowledge...
Can you build a blog with iWeb and host it on Blogger without having a .mac account? Thanks.
    Steve

Well, the way Blogger works is that it allows you to set up the template for your site in HTML. You have to embed your CSS styles in the HTML template, and you have to use the required Blogger content inserts in order for it to work correctly. That might be a little difficult with iWeb, considering that it's not set up for use with Blogger. You can manually edit your HTML files to get them to work, but if you don't know anything about HTML and site design, it'll be hard.
Hope this helps. Best of luck to you!

  • Why did Steve decide to eliminate superior products like MobileMe and iWeb and not just raise the price?

I've been looking into moving 3 web sites that I easily created using iWeb and Mobile me and it is unbarably difficult to use what non Apple users have to put up with.   I was so happy that I could throw a site together for someone and it would just work.   Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality.    Why didn't Apple just raise the price if it was unprofitable?     MobileMe and iWeb are a GREAT service to Apple customers.    I feel this discontinuation is very unfortunate for many.

Actually, the discontinuation of MobileMe is an opportunity to move on to more professional website hosting and management.  MMe is just too social networking oriented and lacking in serious webstite hosting capability.
Now I'm looking at 5 times the cost and 1/5th the quality
You've got to be kidding!  Web hosting that has more hosting features that MMe had is readily available for as little as $3.95/mo. That's only $48/year - aboiut 1/2 of what MMe costs.  Included are a domain name, unlimited storage and transfer, subdomains, multiple email addresses, advanced security features and, something MobileMe never had, 24/7 actual ear-to-ear customer support! What a novel idea.  Actually quickly contacting and talking to a real person to get help on a problem.
I moved about 30 websites from MMe to my new host in about an hour once the new server was setup. This describes how I did it: iW13 - Easily Transfer Website Folders From MobileMe to a 3rd Party Server.
This tutorial explains how I host multiple sites with just one domain name: iW16 - Using HostExcellence.com with iWeb. The same can be done with subdomains but the folder method I used was easer in my opinion.
Depending on your website's design and intented use iWeb an still be a viable web builder.  However, for more complex websites and connecting with mobile users one will have to begin using other applications.  Read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
You can move you 3 websites to a new host in no time and save money doing it.

  • Open and Network-EAP authentication - difference in security?

As far as security goes, and assuming Radius authentication wil actually authenticate and allow users access to the wireless network (or not), it there any difference (once again, as far as security goes), between Open Authentication and Network-EAP as described below?
In any EAP/802.1x-based authentication method, you may question what the differences are between Network-EAP and Open authentication with EAP. These items refer to values in the Authentication Algorithm field in the headers of management and association packets. Most manufacturers of wireless clients set this field at the value 0 (Open authentication), and then signal their desire to do EAP authentication later in the association process. Cisco sets the value differently, from the start of association with the Network EAP flag.

    1. Join process - comparable to connecting a cable in the wired network world. Usually "OPEN".2. Authentication - this verifies the client is who they claim they are because they possess a certificate (EAP-TLS), know the password or a PSK.3. Encryption with TKIP or AES - this is about protecting data as it is transmitted through the air AFTER authentication.
    You are correct.
What confuses me when attempting to configure the Aironet I'm working with is the difference in terminology with the familiar choices I had in Linksys access points, something like this:- WEP- WPA- WPA-Enterprise- WPA2- WPA2-EnterpriseI thought WPA-Enterprise has to do with Radius and indeed I was able to create a test network in which a Windows XP laptop could connect via a Linksys access point, authenticating with EAP-TLS, with WPA-Enterprise selected on the AP. The Windows 2008 server was both a certificate authority, a radius (NPS) server and a domain controller. With the Aironet, I'm not sure what the equivalent choices should be, because, if you look at the link in my last post, there is a larger selection: WEP 40 bit, WEP 128 bit, TKIP, AES, combinations of what precedes and no reference to WPA or WPA2. I'm guessing TKIP = WPA and AES = WPA2.And while I can select "EAP" in the Express Security Setup tab, I cannot see where I would opt for EAP-TLS rather than PEAP or EAP-TTLS and so forth.I'm going to take a look at your blog now and see if that doesn't enlighten me further.
You are on track my friend keep the thinking going .... you are very close!
Some more foundation for you ...
WPA   -  Is PSK with TKIP
WPA2 -  Is PSK with AES
WPA Enterprsie -  EAP- ??? with TKIP
    WAP2 Enterprsie - EAP - ??? with AES
??? = Your selected EAP type
Now, why dont you have to configure EAP type on the AP? Great question, lets break this down.
    1. The AP or WLC for that matter doesnt care what EAP type you use . Why you ask?
When you configure 802.1X, there are 2 virtual ports . These are virtual and you do nothing to configure these. Once you connect to an AP and EAP starts, the ap BLOCKS ALL TRAFFIC except for EAPOL  traffic. This is the ONLY traffic allowed past the until the AP / WLC receives a RADIUS SUCCESS. Once the AP/WLC sees this radius success it then switches virtually over to the controlled port and allows ALL your traffic to pass.
    2. With that being said, your client is only passing traffic through the ap and wlc. The ap / wlc doesnt care what EAP you are using. Your client is talking directly to the radius server at that point. The AP/WLC at this point is only a pass through, nothing more.
    Does that help ?

  • How do I access iWeb and iDVD on my new Macbook Air?

I just bought a new MacBook Air and read that I can load iPhoto 11, iMovie 11, and GarageBand from the app store, which I did. I don't see iWeb or iDVD anywhere, on the MacBook or in the app store.
I guess iWeb and iDVD are part of the iLife 11 package, which does not come with the MacBook Air (thought it did), but I wanted to check in case I am overlooking something.

If you have another Mac that you can connect to your Air with a local area network or int the Target Disk Mode,  Transferring files between two computers using FireWire, you would be able to run the iLife 11 installer disk on the other Mac and select the Air as the location for the installation.

  • My followers are not showing up in Firefox with network blogs, it shows up in Internet explorer??

    This is pretty straight forward.
My followers, I have 102, for Network Blogs, I cannot see them in Firefox.
People are telling me they can see them.
And I can see the faces of my followers in Internet Explorer??

    See:
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Images_or_animations_do_not_load
    * You can see the permissions for the domain in the current tab in Tools > Page Info > Permissions
    * You can see all exceptions in Tools > Options > Content: Load Images > Exceptions
    * You can check the Tools > Page Info > Media tab for blocked images (scroll through all the images)
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of the add-ons is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
    * Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • My new computer does not have iWeb and I can't open the files from the old computer. What can I do???

I'm really desperate. I used to publish to a blog directly from iWeb, then I discontinued it. When I made the switch to iCloud, I wasn't worried because I knew my files would always be there. However, once I got a new computer, I transferred all the old files to an external hard drive and I thought everything would work just fine. Well, it didn't Neither can I open iWeb nor can I find my files.
    Can anyone help me please?

New Macs have not shipped with iWeb for over 2 years and Apple has not sold or supported iWeb for at least 2 years now - Apple stopped selling it and dropped support for it when MobileMe was ditched in favour of iCloud which does not offer hosting.
If you want iWeb, then you will need to have a look at your old installation CD's for your old Mac and see if iWeb is on these and you can then install it from there or if you don't have these CD's any longer, then you'll have no option but to purchase a copy of either iLife 09 or iLife 11 from Amazon - these boxed sets both contain iWeb 09, which is the latest version of iWeb.
Other than this and as you have not done your blog for sometime, perhaps you should consider re-creating it from scratch with a software that is actively supported and updated - that is NOT iWeb any longer.
You could try using WordPress, either .com or .org - .org is good if you already have hosting and you can install WordPress directly onto your server.  If you want something free, then you could use WordPress.com which is then published on the WordPress servers.
You could also take a look at EverWeb from Rage Software, which is very new and is very like iWeb with all the extras, such as drop down menus etc.  Take a look at http://www.everwebapp.com.
As for your files, it sounds that when you say files, these might be the published files for your site, if you went into iWeb and published them to a local folder?  This is not a backup and even if you could find these files, then iWeb will not be able to open them because it has no import facility, so cannot open an already published site - html and css files.
What you need is your domain.sites files which can be found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
I would cut your losses and if you don't have iWeb, then don't bother paying for software that is now outdated and unsupported - move onto to something new and re-create everything in either WordPress or EverWeb.

  • IWeb and SEO Tool - best practice?

I have made an iweb website (published to a MobileMe account) and have downloaded iWeb SEO Tool.
I have understood that there is one certain procedure in doing SEO that's a lot better than the other.
What I usually do after making changes in iWeb is choose publish to MobileMe. But after following the instruction video from iWeb SEO Tool they say one should choose publish to folder and then open the iWeb SEO tool and the local folder and after that make tags and publish to mobile me.
I have noticed that my counter sometimes disappears when I have published (and have from other topics understood that this can happen if you do the procedure with SEO-ing the wrong way). I would just like to set a SEO-routine that I always follow after making changes in my site. Pleeeeeease can someone follow me through easy step by steps from saving changes in iWeb and to publication.
    Many many thanks in advance!
    /the Novice

If you publish to a folder and then upload the files it's the same as publishing to a non-Mac server with these restrictions:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a Non-Mac Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Blog RSS Subscription
    ◼ Hit counter
    ◼ Enhanced slideshows
So if you use any of these features you will have to published directly to MobileMe to keep them.
However, if the hit counter is your only loss you can add a much more informative 3rd party counter, like that from StatCounter, which would not be affected by the publishing to a folder. StatCounter also gives you much more information about your visitors other than just number. Old Toad's Tutorial #13 - Adding a StatCounter as an HTML Snippet has more information on that.
If you decide to go the 3rd party counter method you can publish to a folder on the desktop, process with SEO Tool and then use the free Cyberduck ftp client to upload the files to your MobileMe account. Cyberduck has the capability of uploading only the new or changed/editied files saving considerable uploading time.

  • Is iWeb Good for Blogging, compared to free software?

I'm trying to decide if it's worthwhile to continue using iWeb for my blog. It's a little cumbersome, it's hard to set up sitemaps and increase traffic, and it doesn't always work very well.
Any honest opinions comparing it to Blogger, WordPress, and VOX? Should I continue on with iWeb and hope it gets better, or are the other options simpler and better?

For many people the deciding factor is the ability to make blog entries quickly and easily via a browser from any machine or location. I don't see iWeb's blog ever having this feature.

  • Iweb and godaddy hosting

So I just purchased iweb and plan to create a website for when i travel to South Africa. Problem is I declined to sign up for .mac because I really only need it for 4 months and don't want to pay $99.
Godaddy.com seems to have some better prices but is there anyone here who can walk me through what I'd need to do to post my iweb creations to such a service? I need an ftp program right? Which should I use and how do I use it? Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Will

here here... I second that. I have had godaddy a long time, even while I had .mac. I got iWeb last night, and whipped up a couple images from MY trip to South Africa over the last two weeks!! interesting coincidence. take a look at what I did.
    www.jrog.com
I used the blog system to link in multiple photo albums, as I don't see myself creating much in the way of blogs in the conventional sense, but it is handy to be able to create a new image gallery.
Godaddy gave me free hosting, but I ended up paying for the basic service, some $36 a year for 5GB of storage and 250G of monthly data transfer. Pretty insane if you ask me.
I told the salesman at the apple store last night that I would go back to .Mac the moment they allow for personal domain name compatability. Even Google's gmail allows you to setup an alternate domain name, and send emails as that domain user.

  • Iweb 08 - missing blog entries

All of a sudden, my website, hosted on mobilme has stopped showing the blog entries. I have tried uploading new content to the site and everything shows up just fine on my idisk where it should be, but the master page and archive page of the blog show no entries in Safari. Strangely, if you click the RSS feed, everything is where it should be and you can leaf through the blog pages that way. This is an old site which has worked without issue (except for the infamous transition period). I have made no procedural or structural changes to the site at all. Everything looks fine in iWeb. Any ideas why this would happen?
    Thanks
    RDD

It is a known bug in iWeb. Whenever I make a change or add a post, even in an other site or blog, then the whole blog summary is wiped out or has misplaced images. If you upload the changes, then your site will be damaged on the internet.
So whatever you do in iWeb and you have a blog, you always have to check all your other blogs to see if things are still as they should be.
After each change or addition my rss feed is ruined.
It is time Apple started paying attention to these signals.
Please in all cases send feedback to Apple. This is a recurring problem. If they don't fix it the blog part of iWeb is pretty useless, at least for me and many other users.
