Iweb Banner dimentions/size

Hello,
I am creating banners for my iweb site. What the dimensions should I use?

For scrolling banners I set it to 960 px wide to suit my page width of 980 px and the height to suit the content.

  • Iweb slideshow image size

The "Play Slideshow" option in iWeb Photo pages actually shows my photos same size or even smaller than the photos on the page. They look tiny in the middle of the large black modern viewer..
Why is this? If I chose to click directly on one of the photos, another "inline" viewer appears, and here the photos are larger - as I would expect them to be in the slideshow.
I am very found of the iWeb fotopages that lets me make real photo albums with title text (as in the old "Homepage". I have tried to upload Large (high quality) photos, but this does not increase the size of the photos in the slideshow.
What is wrong here? Can anyone give me some input on these settings please? Thanks!

I believe the maximum dimension size of Photo Album Slideshows is 800 pixels. So anything larger will only display at 800 pixels.

  • IWeb Video Frame Size Limitation?

I can't seem to be able to place a movie into iWeb that is any larger than 640x360. It seems that when I try to drag something larger than this into the program, then part of the video gets cut off. Is this a limitation of iWeb '08? Is there any way around this? Does anyone know if this gets fixed in iWeb '09?
    Thank you.

The default page width in iWeb is only 700 px wide for some reason.
I use a "standard" page width of 980 px because this will fit most screens without the viewer having to scroll horizontally and also translates well to the iPhone.
If you increase the page width to a bit wider than the size of the width you want the movie, then it will stretch.
This is done in the Page inspector Layout menu.
It also helps if you "Show Layout" from the view menu or do Shift - Command - L.
This will show you the edges of your page.

  • Welcome banner image size - 600x300?

I looked more carefully at the brand new guidelines for "Creating Your iTunes U Site" today.
While Chapter 3 of the iTunes U Admin Guide of May 2006 said that the Welcome page banner should be no more than 750 pixels wide, these May 07 guidelines now say the banner should be 600 by 300 pixels.
That's quite a change -- and, moreover, that's a size that schools listed in the iTunes U store aren't using. The 5 schools I checked (Bowdoin, NJIT, Penn State, etc.) are using the old 'no more than 750 pixels' guideline.
Why should we use up 300 pixels of precious height for a banner?
Is that really the new 'strongly suggested' dimension for the Welcome page banner, or might it be a typo, or ...?

Duncan Bernhardt discussed this when Apple updated the templates.

Basically, it's to make room for the links box.

  • Does iweb reduce file size photos automatically?

Not sure if I need to do this. I have created a a slideshow page, and was dragging my photos from iphoto and was wondering if I need to make them smaller in "file size" before uploading or does iweb do that automatically?

    This Apple doc may help:

  • View iWeb templates full size?

Is there any way to browse through the iWeb templates that come with the app, at a bigger size so I can actually tell what they are like? At present I am having to make a new site, select a template and a page type from that template, all in order to view the template larger.

found it myself---in case others have this question, check at

  • ITunes U Banner Image Size?

On iTunes U, do you know if 750x250 is the size the banner has to be, or is that just a recommended size? can it be less tall than 250?
From what I have been able to determine, if we screw this up, it's a pain to get reset.
Thanks for any help on this matter.

Because of the link box to the right, I prefer 650 x 200. Adjusting it is a pain only if you have a bunch of existing pages. (It pays to experiment before populating it {grin} ).
Change existing pages one by one. Change the template for future pages.
Existing pages: From your initial Welcome page, click on the Edit page link and look for the tiny (tiny, tiny ... {smile} ) button in the upper left corner. If your banner has a lot of background details, it can take a moment to spot it. Click on it and you can upload a new image.
Changing the initial Welcome page did not change subsequent pages built from the Welcome page template. That's where the "hassle" comes in. You have to edit each page and replace the icon in the same manner as the initial one.
Don't forget to change the template also so that future pages will look right. To do that, click the template page name and then "Add Content". From there you can see the "change image" icon in the upper left corner.

  • Iweb: Change page size

I cannot seem to change the size of my website pages. I used to be able to change it through the inspector but I cannot seem to do it now. Or I have forgotten how I did it. Can anyone tell me how?

Hi, and welcome to the forums.
It's the left-most icon on the Inspector panel, the Layout tab.

  • How do I get an iWeb banner movie to show on iPhone?

I have seen and implemented the wyodor version of creating a banner movie at the top of my webpage. It works terrificly on my desktop and have tested with all the different browsers on mac and pc and all fine. However, it doesn't work on iphone. The banner on wyodor's page http://www.wyodor.net/iWebBlogTest/Wyodor_1/Artikel.html appears on the iphone beautifully. Does anyone know how it managed it, its doing my head in and I figure its something really simple that I am overlooking.

That't because his banner is actually Quicktime .m4v movie added to the page using iFrame code in an HTML snippet and uses a flash player to play it. iPhone doesn't support true flash since it's a much too heavy a cpu and memory hog.
Download the folder of files that he uses to create the banner, open it and you'll see the m4v QT file in there that is played by the flash player. TheiWebBanner.html file is the one that is actually embedded in the snippet. The folder must be uploaded to the server and the iWebBanner.html file linked to there.

  • IWeb maximum page size?

    Hi all,
I'm just starting to experiment in iWeb and want to create a simple illustration portfolio site. I plan to have the main folio pages as long format pages, some 700 pixels wide X 20,000 pixels tall, so avoiding having thumbnail areas and keeping everything very simple.
I can't seem to find a way of creating an iWeb page any bigger than 4000 pixels wide or tall.
Is there any way of overcoming this or is it back to the steep learning curve of Dreamweaver CS3...?
    Any pointers would be great.
    Kind regards,
    YZ

Why do people always mention Dreamweaver when it gets complicated? Because they are easily impressed with the sales talk?
You can do the same in texteditor. But that is not the professional's choice.
4000 pixels wide is about 2 24" monitors next to each other.
To increase the default max height of an iWeb page, add a texbox and move it down beyond the 4000pixels perimeter.
You can also publish the page and open it in a HTML Editor. You can spend $600 first if you think Dreamweaver will do it.
Then go to the bottom of the page and find a line like this:
    <div style="height: 4000px; line-height: 4000px; " class="spacer"> </div>
    Change the numbers.
BTW, there is no learning curve in Dreamweaver to open a file.

  • Can I enlarge the size of the templates in iWeb

I use the templates in iWeb 1.1.2. Is there a possibility to enlarge the size of the standard templates sothat a template can be full screen if you publish it on the Web?
    Greetings,
    Volkert.

    Hi Photoforce
You can make the pages as wide or long as you like in iWeb, but the size will be fixed. You can then move/adjust the template components to your desired size.
However, there isn't an easy way to resize the page to the size of the user's screen without using some form of post-publish editing and javascript.

  • Safari 6 "Images" search results don't show digital storage size info anymore - Fix?

I've now noticed, finally using Safari 6 more often now .... that when doing a google subject search (and selecting the "images" results versus the "search" results at the top header bar of Safari), that Safari 6 now only shows a huge listing the images themselves. If you slide your cursor over any of the images, a small black highlight bar appears under the image and shows its pixel dimensions  (as in 000 x 000 pixel dimentional size), but Safari 6 shows no digital size info of the image in kb's (kilobites) or posibly MB's (megebites) .... like it used to in the past.
On previous Safari google "image" search results you saw the images, along with their pixel dimentional size (000 x 000) and their storage size ( 00kb / 00MB) listed in small text under the image.
Is there any way to set Safari to show not only the "images" dimensions (which it now does), but also to show the images over all storge size?
I know if you use the additional "search tools" selection text, that a sub set of selector menus appears, listing "any size", "any color", Any type" Any time" All results" .... but none of these will set "images" storage sizes (kb, MB, etc.).  Even using a "larger size" only selection setting doesn't always guarantee that a larger size only seach results will be of larger pixel quality.
I often use Safari and google to find "comp" art images, etc. for rough art placement on projects, and it's now almost impossible to search through Safari's google "images" results without knowing what "quality size" the image can be found at.
    Any thoughts on this fix?

Actually, as I forgot to mention .... is this above issue a Safari 6 or Google search result issue? I'm starting to think that it may be Google's "images" results that don't show the images storage size anymore, and possibly not Safari's problem.
Either way, is there any fix to this issue ... a plug-in, etc.?

  • 40ft x 10ft banner in photoshop..need some advice before printing

With this banner's size 40ft x 10ft (480in x 120in), is 62 PPI good enough to maintain the quality when printing? I'm afraid it will be blurry. This banner will be viewed about 20ft away or more... please need answer asap!! tq

    According to these

    the resolution should be fine.

  • Can iWeb accommodate a searchable database?

I'm working on an iWeb site for a community directory, and I'd like to include about 4,000 names and phone numbers that visitors can look up by simply typing a name in a search window.
I can do this kind of thing easily on my computer, using a table utility in word processing applications. But I don't know how to accomplish this on a website. I'm too busy and too old to learn another foreign language like html.
As a temporary measure, I can copy columns of text from my print version of the local directory and paste it into iWeb. However, that seems to convert the text into image files with handles for sizing. When I increase the image size enough to be readable, the handles end up way off the page. Moreover, it's going to require a lot of pages and a lot of scrolling to access 4,000 names and phone numbers. I hope there's a better way.
The address for my site is:
    www.pinetreearts.com.
Thanks for any and all comments and suggestions.
P.S.: Can someone explain how to make my website address and active link in these forums? Thanks.

Hi again, QT Kirk -- Sorry for the delay.
Except for a question regarding non-Mac browsers, I think you've solved my problem with truly elegant simplicity!
After converting my Word tables to text files, I just dragged the document icon onto a blank page in iWeb and, much to my surprise, iWeb absorbed the entire contents! It takes a couple of minutes for this page to build, but when it's done, it's all there — 4,000-plus names and phone numbers.
(I have to do some tedious formatting work on the document off-line, but even the raw version is usable.)
I just hadn't been able to visualize how 50-plus pages of text would fit on one page in iWeb at readable size. Evidently, it's like the old scrolls of ancient times, and visitors can just keep on scrolling and scrolling until they find the name they want or — better yet — use the Command-F shortcut you described.
The one question remaining concerns Microsoft browsers, which are used by most of our local community. I have the Mac version of Internet Explorer (which remains undeveloped since version 5.x or whatever), and its Command-F function fails to search the entire document. It can search only as far as the names that are visible on the screen. Beyond that, it delivers nothing but a blank page.
Newer versions of IE for Windows may work better; I don't know. Otherwise I can advise our visitors to download a different browser, such as Firefox, that works across platforms. (I presume Apple does not offer a Windows version of Safari — or do they?)
QT Kirk, your straightforward solutions have bypassed all kinds of costly and complicated approaches suggested by other so-called experts. You are a genius. Thank you, thank you!

  • Ad unit size 300 x 50 question

Hi, i want to use banner with size 300x50 in my game, but i always see there are no ads, ads appear when i change my banner to 300x70 or 300x80. Is it legal to change my banner to bigger?

    Hi JJ1816,
In Visual Studio, you can create  Ad Control of any size.
In general, you should create the ad control of the same size as the size of ad unit created in pubCenter.
