IWeb Blog Help

When you make a blog, the Inspector gives you the option to specify how many posts are shown on the "blog summary page". Older posts are then only viewable in the Archive page. Is there a way to have older posts pushed to a "Page 2" (and then Page 3, Page 4, etc) instead? My blog posts consist of a single photo each, and the Archive page only shows text, so it's not of much use to me.
Thanks

Anyone have any ideas at all?

  • TS2167 iWeb blog publishing help?

I am having trouble publishing an iWeb blog page.  I keep getting "Publish Error" unkown msg.  I have an iWeb website already and wanted to add a blog.  Any ideas would be appreciated, thanks

ok I know I am going to come across really dumb here but....
Ok, thanks for the help.  However, the file you indicate is missing - what is this where should it go and what do I do with it.
I have no idea why the domain name is also my site name these were the details given by my host people, although they did say they would sort it out to look better in the browser etc.
Not sure what you mean about making something an image if it's a text?  I have chosen the text 'cracked' so assuming everywhere I have used this (alot) I should split the words individually?
I have gone through all the links at the bottom of my page and they all go to where I want them to go within the website design on iweb, I've tested all ?
Sorry if I am being a little dumb here but the program was easy to use without further IT knowledge, i really appreciate your feedback as I am very keen to get my site live asap but please could you expand on your feedback so I can put these wrongs right.
    many thanks

  • IWeb blog, photo albums requires us to enter the site name on every entry?

Every iWeb blog entry gets a heading of something like "My Site" or "Tom's Photography." This means we have to retype the name of our site +in addition to+ the actual title of every blog post.
Does this not seem annoyingly tedious to anyone else? Did the iWeb team really screw this up, or am I missing a setting somewhere? This also happens on photo album pages; the page for every new album dragged in from iPhoto or Aperture gets a generic title of "Tom's Photography" or something. Pretty annoying. Can anyone helps?

that's cool and everything, but someday when I have hundreds of posts and I want to change the title on the top, I will have to manually change each one. For some reason I think Apple would have thought of this. It seems like a no-brainer...?
Still need someone to help out on this.

  • How can I redirect iWeb Blog to Wordpress

Hi - I'm looking to redirect my iWeb blog to a temporary WordPress blog and was hoping there was some code I could use to do this? Or can I do this directly in iWeb?
    * Would I download the Index.html file to do this to add code? Then reupload to iDisk when finished?
Is there a standard redirect code for me to use? I'm looking to have readers type web.me.com"username" - and be directed to a Wordpress blog site.
Thanks in advance for any help -

You can add the following code to an HTML snippet on your iWeb blog page:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "URL TO PAGE ON SITE YOU WANT TO REDIRECT TO"; </script>
When someone lands on your iWeb blog they will immediately be redirected to your other blog.

  • Move iWeb blog to WordPress?

    Hello,
I hope someone can help me. I have a blog at a MobileMe site that will soon disappear. The address is web.me.com/tjkk2 . I now have a WordPress blog and would love to move the entries at this old site into the new WordPress one. Is there a way that this can be done? If someone could point me the way forward to do this, I would be most grateful.
    Thank you very much.

Not sure if you already went through with copying and pasting your blog posts, but I just found this tool that lets you import your iWeb blog posts and comments to wordpress.

  • IWeb blog - How much to upload?

I have an established blog on my iWeb created website, in my own domain. http://www.cuppa500.com/CCC/CCC.html
To add a new entry to the blog I complete the following procedure:
Compose update & save in iWeb
Publish to a folder (on my desktop)
Transfer the updated material to my web site using FTP (Fireftp in Firefox).
This works ok ...BUT... each time I have uploaded the entire blog even if only correcting a previously uploaded spelling mistake! With the increasing size of my blog, this is becoming quite a lengthy process.
    QUESTION
Is it possible to upload individual blog entries, & if so how?
Very soon, I will wanting to update my blog more regularly whilst travelling, Mobile broadband is expensive so a method to cut back on the amount of data I upload is pretty essential.
    Thanks

If you update/correct a previous entry you can upload the files for that page only. If you do this for a new entry you will break the file structure.
I don't use the iWeb blog because it is restrictive and soon becomes unwieldy as you have discovered.
Consider starting a new blog for your "travels".
You can publish several blogs as sub sites and upload them to your server as separate entities and link to and from your main site.
Using a better FTP application will help. I use Yummy which has a ton of options.

  • Iweb blog remote updating

I will be going on travel and would like to update my blog on my site. problem is i will be traveling with a pc laptop from work. is there any way to update the iweb blog remotely?

Phil ~ I don't know how practical this would be, but...
...is a free, cross-platform, remote desktop system that you can use to access your Mac from almost any system. You could log in to LogMeIn, open iWeb and edit & publish your site remotely via your home system.
...for iPhone and iPod touch provides instant one-click access to your LogMeIn computers, directly from your Apple device. Make your iPhone or iPod touch an extension of your work or home computer:
    • Use a program that's on your office computer
    • View a photo on your home desktop
    • Help a friend troubleshoot his or her computer
    • All from the palm of your hand, from wherever you are.

  • IWeb blog squished

I found that when I publish my iWeb blog with several text boxes, HTML snippets, and pictures it does not display properly. The items tend to run together and cover each other up. This problem is especially bad when viewing the posts on iPhone. My post will look fine in Safari on my Mac but be all squished when viewed on my iPhone. Is there anything I can do to anchor the items in place?
    I appreciate your help!

Click on Inspector (bottom left in iWeb). In Inspector, click on RSS (fourth from left on top). Click on "Blog." Under "Blog Main Page," you'll see "Number of excerpts to show." Adjust the number and Voila!!
Good luck and Happy New Year.

  • An iWeb blog about iWeb

I've been playing around with IWeb since I got iLife '06 on Friday. As part of this exercise I've put together a blog in which I'm commenting on the experience and the pros and cons of iWeb as a web publishing solution. Why not drop by. You might just find some helpful pointers about using iWeb.
    You'll find the blog here:
    <http://web.mac.com/curlytool/iWeb/iWebTryout/ViewPoints/ViewPoints.html>
    800 MHz 17" iMac G4 | 1 GHz 14" iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   2 x AirPort Express; Apple wireless keyboard and mouse; LaCie 160GB external HD

    From iWeb's Help menu...
If you don’t publish your site to MobileMe, these features are unavailable:
    • Password protection
    +*• Blog and photo comments*+
    • Blog search
    • Hit counter
    • Enhanced slideshows

  • Getting photos to show properly in your iWeb Blog Summary?

    Hi,
I'm trying to create an iWeb photo blog, but am having some problems. This is what I have so far: www.nigelivy.com
Basically my plan is to use the "blog home" as my site's actual home and to upload a daily photo. There are two problems that I have faced:
    1. I can't get my photos which I add to each entry to show on the home page in the "Blog Summary".
    2. When I did get the photos to show up, they were blurred. Is there a way of fixing this?
Any help would be appreciated! If anyone can recommend a iWeb blog template for this sort of site, please let me know...
    Many thanks,
    Nigel

When you use the image placeholder in a blogpage, the image is displayed in the summary.
When you delete that placeholder and simply drop an image on the page, that image won't be displayed.
Tiny details that make iWeb so interesting to use for some and confusing for others.

  • Posting to an iWeb blog from an iPhone

I'm about to do a big charity walk (Wainwright's Coast to Coast). I'd like to post to a blog on my iWeb website. Can someone tell me if I can do this easily and how please? Many thanks Ian Smith

I think you need to ask in the iWeb forum, or find some people who really use iWeb blogs. My sense is that the iWeb platform is pretty limited, but I don't really know.
I'm pretty sure there is no iWeb app for the iPhone. Ask Apple for one here:
    http://apple.com/feedback
So one question is--does iWeb let you use the XML-RPC protocol that seems to be the standard for blogging clients? Or some other standard? If so, presumably an iPhone blog client like this could be set up:
    http://appshopper.com/social-networking/iblogger
but you need some people who know iWeb to help you figure out what the settings would be.
Or maybe iWeb has a Post-by-Email capability? Again, ask iWeb experts.
If iWeb doesn't support any of those, you could certainly set up a WordPress.com blog or something--they have both post-by-email and a blogging app. Or Blogger/Blogspot or any major blogging platform. Maybe iWeb has the ability to show an RSS feed on your iWeb blog, so that it would show links to the WP.com posts that you make.
A charity walk sounds made for Twitter, though, if you ask me.

  • Updating iweb blog

I've built a website with iWeb and moved it to a third party ISP.  How do I update the blog efficiently?  Don't see any help on the topic.

You are aware that by publishing an iWeb blog to a 3rd party FTP server you will lose the following features, right?
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a 3rd Party Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter

  • Can photo albums be viewed on iWeb blog if you don't have 08?

Recently tried to create a blog with a couple of my photo albums on it. Unfortunately I am having some trouble doing it. I hope don't need the new iLife to do that task. I tried to click and drag he photo album from I photo onto the iWeb blog page...to no avail.

bitslap47, thanks for your input as well.
Unfortuneately, I'm a real newbie, and though I have Outlook 2002 I never used it for my contacts, so I have to input them somewhere, so I 'think' the easiest way for me is to input them directly into the Outlook Express and save me the 'possible' pain of transferring.
But THANK YOU for the information which I will save for future use.
    Thanks again:)!

  • Iweb Blog ftp or mobile me?

I have just designed a website in iweb that I ftp through godaddy. Took a while to make that decision, but at least I have complete design control! I am doing pretty well and now at the search rankings stage and realize that iweb isn't great at that. Read some of the articles here on search rankings and downloaded the SEO guide and going to take actions with that, and also bought the godaddy search optimisation pack and intend to place the metatags/descriptions etc on my pages.
BUT, I now want to design a second site which is just a blog, which obviously isn't showing up through godaddy, so need to mobileme it. But, with a blog, how do you add the metatags etc to the pages, and are their individual pages for each blog posting? Does mobile me make it easy to go into each file and make the blog searchable? Just not sure whether to just design blog pages myself in iweb rather than their formatted ones, and use godaddy instead?
So, in short - mobile me with formatted iweb blog? or design own blog and ftp with godaddy - which makes the pages more searchable?

Welcome to the discussions. You'll probably have better luck making your blog pages more searchable if you use a dedicated blogging platform — most of them allow tags to be specified.
MobileMe is slow and problems with iWeb's blog are a recurring theme on these forums. For a success story with a non-iWeb blog hosted on WordPress, see this old thread:
To blog or not to blog
And to link to an external blog from iWeb's navbar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (Actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).
SEO is important to you, but iWeb is designed for personal sites and, as such, Apple apparently thinks there's no need for Google. Web-design apps for business sites tend to integrate SEO — Sandvox Pro is an example:

  • Most Popular Entries in iWeb Blog. Possible??

I want to put a box in my iweb blog that will contain the most viewed (most popular) entries I have in the blog so they could be easily accessible. Is it possible because Im searching the net but I cannot find anything... What do you think?

There is a workaround that involves quite some work to do by hand.
    1. Get a Google webmaster account
    2. Add the Google Analytics code to your HTML files (post publish editing)
    3. Look at the results on a regular base to see what Blog entry is most popular
    4. Show the most popular Blog entry in an iFrame (you'll have to change them by hand)
This is a summary. Feel free to ask for details.
    Kind regards,
    Leo
