Iweb broke

I am learning iweb and was publishing to a folder on my desktop. I threw out the folder to start a new one but when I started iweb the old files were there. I delete the files in iweb and now just have the sites globe.
I can't add a page to this now or a site or anything with iweb but close.
Is there something I can delete or do I have to reinstall it again.
Does iweb always create of duplicate of everything somewhere? This could eat up space particularly with movies in no time.
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED.

iWeb keeps all information about your sites in a file called "Domain". This file is located on your hard drive at the following location.... Users/yourname/Library/Application Support/iWeb/...
This file is there to hold all information about your websites. iWeb saves to this file automatically. This is the file that you want to backup or copy to another computer if you need to move to another computer to edit your sites. Without this file, you cannot edit the sites that you have already published. There is no way to import already published pages back into iWeb. Understand so far?
Publishing to a Folder is a good way to preview your work. You can publish to any folder you like...iWeb doesn't keep track of this at all. Deleting the published files might take them "offline" but iWeb doesn't know about this. That is why your site information popped up again when you launched iWeb after deleting the published folder...because iWeb is reading from the Domain file.
To delete pages or sites from your website, you need to do this from within iWeb, using the delete page or delete site menu option. Once you do this, you can add a new site or page as you please using the appropriate buttons. The "Sites" globe probably indicates that there is a default "site" there. Try selecting the globe or the space around the globe and then selecting "New Site" and see if it doesn't work,
If not, since you are starting completely over, you could delete the domain file completely and have iWeb start fresh.

  • Problem with iWeb SEO breaking iWeb blogs (Blog Summary Widget error).

As as happened to many others, my blog was broken. The only thing that showed up when publishing was "Blog Summary Widget", no actual blog.
I came on here and searched, uninstalled with apzapper, deleted preferences before that, tried everything.
    Still the problem.
Then I notice my blog works. I'm excited. I move on in my post iweb part of the process (iWeb SEO and dreamweaver edits) to then see it's broken again.
After some testing (changing 1 file at a time, one step at a time) I found that when iWeb SEO touched the home.html (where my blog is) it broke it.
This is a new phenomenon as I was doing this all the time before with no problem.
I even tried updating to the latest version of iWeb SEO and the same problem.
So if you're having this problem, and are using iWeb SEO, try it without and see if you still have the same problem.

I'm getting the same problem too. I've just updated my iWeb from 1 to 2. I've had to more or less re-create my Blog from scratch as the upgrade wrecked the summary and recent items pages (probably because I'd use jTemplate).
So I created a new Site, dragged the old blog over to it and created a brand new one in my proper site. I then copied all my formatting over AND all the entries. All looks fine in iWeb, but I see the same error messages as described here. Take a look here : http://www.andrewmay.biz/test/
Obviously I've moved a lot of stuff around from the normal White template, and deleted a few things too, but I would have hoped that iWeb wouldn't let me trash things that then broke it.

  • IWeb Blog Summary Widget error

I have seen this problem posted here before, but I'm posting it again. Why? Because it's an incredibly annoying error and I can't believe nobody has found a way around it.
The error is on the Blog entry page, the error code is BLOG SUMMARY WIDGET ERROR. It also lists a few lines that are problems, noting that a reference error is to blame.
I'm sure I am not the only person with this problem. I can't figure it out, my simple knowledge of Java isn't getting me anywhere in the code. Oddly, it isn't actually effecting my page in any way, with the exception of the error code. Anyway, anyone with suggestions, it would be greatly appreciated.
    The error happens here: http://www.mcbya.net/RepublicofThoronia/Blog
Another odd thing, the blog summary page refuses to acknowledge photos, even when I use the original image... very odd indeed.

  • Pages in iWeb always needed to be re-uploaded

I have my domain name with Host Excellence. When I upload my iWeb pages iWeb always tells me my connection to the server broke and the upload could not be completed. When I go to my site it all seems to work fine. All the files have been uploaded. When I close and save iWeb shows my pages as blue and having been uploaded.
When I go to use iWeb again the next day it shows my pages in red as though they have not been uploaded. When I make a small change to one of the pages and go to upload it by "Publishes Site Changes" all the other pages need to be uploaded again even though I didn't change them.
Any ideas as to what is going on?
    Pat M.

When you upload with an FTP application you have a couple of choices.
You can upload the whole folder with a all the website files and the external index.html file or the files inside.
The method you choose defines the URL to the pages and other files....

Cyberduck is a very competent freeware app which is easy to use but you may wish to consider a shareware one that allows you to see the files on both your Mac and the server in one window...

  • Windows Firefox 3.0 breaks iWeb 08 Photo Galleries

The latest update to the Windows version of Firefox, 3.0, broke the photo galleries in all of my iWeb created sites. Found this script patch at Mac Update....
    http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/27819/fix-iweb-and-firefox-3
...which claims to restore those features (photo gallery, slide shows, blog comments) but it didn't work for me. Downloaded the script and installed it and republished several sites but you still can't see the photos in Firefox 3 (Windows Internet Explorer sees them fine.)
Mozilla is going to put out 3.1 which will supposedly fix the problem, but not until next year. sigh.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Have you tried the above patch and found it to work? Or is there another fix out there to resolve this?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

Well, now you know as much about it as I do. You might post in one of Wyodor's threads and ask him. I just kind of got what he developed or found and regurgitated it.
Did you also do the editing of the iWPopUpSlideshow.css and iWPopUpSlideshow.js files inside the iWeb application. What you do is edit each file and change all occurrences of mac.com to me.com.
The js file would be located in the Scripts folder inside iWeb and the css file is in the Media folder if I remember right. You might give that a try and republish (if you haven't already done that fix).
Doesn't matter whether Tiger or Leopard.

  • Transfer iweb site to another mac

My hard drive broke and now I have a new one installed. I would like to download/manage my iweb-mobileme site from this new hard drive. How can I sync the new disc with my mobileme?

    tragicoptimist wrote:
How can I sync the new disc with my mobileme?
You can't sync your published iWeb site from MobileMe back to a new disk. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
See also this Apple doc: _iWeb: Backing up your Domain file_
Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Various iWeb Problems

I've done a good amount of reading on the forums and am still not able to determine a solution to the problems I am having. Here are the details.
I am trying to create a site to show off family photos, of which we have over 1000. I have things broke up by year and event and there is only a couple events with over 100 photos. I have all the photos in iPhoto broke down by events.
Using iPhoto I select the iWeb to photo page option and the page gets created in iWeb, there has never been a problem with this step.
After creating about four pages I usually select Save. This has varying results that breaks down like this.
    1.Save actually works
2.Goes through the motion of saving but after selecting quit I get prompted to save again. Selecting save does nothing. Selecting do not save, expecting application to quit, does nothing.
3.The saving indicator never comes up.
Besides number one, the end result is I have to force quit iWeb and all my work is gone. Leaving it sit there for any length of time does not change the results.
If I am lucky enough to get a good save and want to publish to my .mac account, I can get a combination of these results.
    1.It works
2.iWeb hangs at logging into .Mac account. Clicking Cancel does nothing. Usually ends in Force Quit.
3.After selecting publish nothing happens. No indicator that it is logging into my .mac account or anything. Selecting the File menu, most of the options are grayed out. It would appear that iWeb thinks it is doing something, but it is not. No amount of time helps the situation. Normally ends in a force quit or iWeb telling me if I quit I will lose all my work. See number two above.
4.iWeb reports it is uploading to .mac account but after things are done, nothing happens. I do not see the time indicator next to my site in the left hand page pane. Circle of force quit, not able to save, and losing work begins.
I have tried reinstalling iWeb and starting with a fresh domain file, both resulted in no change. Odd thing is, when I was demoing the .mac service I had no problems. Once I converted my account and starting using my personal domain things went crazy. I do not think that is the root cause of the problem, just more of an observation.
I did not use the previous version of iWeb so there are no conversion problems there. iWeb is updated to 2.0.1, the problems existed both before and after the update. Using the iPhoto web gallery produces the same problem in iWeb. Saving to a local folder appears to work 100% of the time but it could be I have not tested this option enough. I am using the darkroom template but have had problems with the other templates also.
    So, any thoughts?
Also a question, other than removing the domain file, the iWeb application, and reinstalling the iWeb application, are the other files that have to be removed to get a clean install of iWeb?

I'm having pretty close to the same problems. However, I can't even save a project I am working on. Save, export, export to .Mac - none of these work. It just hangs and I get the spinning color wheel.
After trying to get it to work for the last couple days, I finally gave up. If someone has a great solution, I will give it a try. Otherwise, I will just delete iWeb from my system and keep using other programs that don't give me so much trouble.

  • IWEB 2.0.4 has broken the photo's page w/ gradient background

After updating today to the latest iWeb, I created a new photo's page. All my pages have a gradient gray background.
When I click on a picture, instead of the gradient filling the whole page it only fills the area where the photo's are.
This is in both safari and firefox 3.0.1

YIKES!!! It's worse than I thought! How do I go back to the previous version of i-Web!!!!???!!!
Seriously, how do I downgrade to the previous version?
Ok, here is what I mean,
    1. Go to:
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos.html
Click on any photo, you'll see that the gradient feature goes all the way to the top.
This is the way it's supposed to look, and did in the previous version.
    2. Now go to the new page I created with the updated software.
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos_3.html
Click on one of the photo's and you'll see that the gradient fill is blocked off at the top of the photo's... This is wrong... this where I believe the newer version is broken.
    3. The newer version also broke another page, a page that looked fine in the previous version:
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/BCM_Pix.html
You'll see that the gradient starts 1/2 way down the page!!!
I not only updated the web.me.com domain space, but also my webspace on go daddy and they both looked the same. I tested on two computers, iMac and a PC. Both yielded the same results. I also tested on three browsers on both iMac and PC, ie7, firefox 3.0.1 and Safari
The good news is I had a backup of the web content from the previous version of iWeb. To see the way it's supposed to look, before I upgraded iWeb, goto this link:
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos.html
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos_Cont.html
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/BCM_Photos.html
Click on any photo, you'll see gradient all the way to the top.

  • Wireless cards and uploading iWeb??

Spent many hours/days trying to upload our new iWeb site to our hosting service (not MobileMe or .Mac) via both Cyberduck and Filezilla. The files start uploading and then after a few minutes, it stops and gives me an Incomplete msg. Our site is mainly text and photos (about 9MB, I believe)- no slide shows, blogs or anything fancy. A fellow at the hosting service suggested that maybe using a wireless card could be the problem. Has anyone had trouble with this???
    Thank you.

Well, we switched from using a wireless card to our local internet service which isn't wireless (except for the three feet from our computer to the little black box!). We still had trouble uploading our iWeb site to the hosting service (we switched to HostExcellence). FileZilla (as well as Cyberduck) kept shutting down in the middle of an upload (even when I broke it down into small files). Finally, I worked with one fellow from HE who had me PUT OUR FILES INTO A ZIP FILE AND IT WORKED!!
Just wanted to share that in case it could help anyone.
    Thanks

  • .mv4 upload to Weblog broke after 10.6 update.

I had the Weblog working to accept .mv4 files via tips in George Cooks's "Tweaking Weblog",
    http://web.mac.com/cook5/iWeb/georgedotmac/Welcome.html.
I modified the appropriate files and it was working fine. After the update I can only upload the standard file types. .mp3, .mov etc. and not .mv4 to the Blog.
The update was supposed to fix it but it broke it. Any ideas? The files that I modified are still modified but the lib file was changed by the update.

This is a great example of why Apple has to provide much better documentation than what is available.
I read the PDF "Podcasting Tweaks" too. I have not had success with m4v files yet, so I looked closely at what you wrote to see where I may have gone wrong. But did you make a mistake when you pasted your "plugin-admin-upload.properties" file for upload with your post?
Is that entry in the file "application/octet$"?
    It worked?
    Not "application/octet-stream"?
    I'm puzzled.
And Jay said he added "video/m4v and video/x-m4v".
I can see how you would input "video/x-m4v" to enable an ".m4v" file for Firefox. The "Podcasting Tweaks" PDF lists the file type in the left column, and the required text-incantation in the right column. That is the pattern: file type in the left column, required text in the right column. Easy enough.
But how did you know that you needed to add "video/" in front of "m4v" to get it to work with Safari? Following any logic, it would appear that all you need to enable an m4v for Safari is to add "application/octet-stream" in the correct section of the "plugin-admin-upload.properties" file.
Given the absolutely unforgiving nature of Unix flat files for ANY deviation from the one correct way, and given that this is basic documentation for newbies to Blojsom, how did you guess that you had to add "video" in front of the entry in the LEFT column?
One extra period, one missing comma, any tiny deviation from exactly what is expected in a text-based configuration file and it will blow up as certainly as the sun rises. And you go ahead and add an entire word! How did you know?
Unless you had some clue from God knows where. Did you pick up a different fragment of "documentation" from some other budding Blojsom guru with an iMac account? In this case, you were a more persistent man than I am, Sir.
I am not knocking "Podcasting Tweaks". Its the most useful piece of writing I have yet seen for Blojsom. But how can that be?
Thorough and clear documentation is the difference between being able to usually go home at sometime close to 5pm, and missing deadlines while trying to calm disgruntled bosses and endusers. Apple has to stand up and end the embarrassment. Give us documentation for this application.

  • Combine iWeb 08 sites in iWeb 09

I used to have a few .sites2 documents in iWeb 08 for maintaining more than one website.
In iWeb 09 it is possible to maintain more sites in one .sites2 document and publish them separately. That is a great benefit for me.
However I would like to know if there is a way to import multiple iWeb 08 domain sites into one iWeb 09 document. I can import one, but I don't see how to import another in the same document.
    Anyone?

I agree with Roddy. I use iWebSites to manage over 40 individual sites.. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
My family site has over 45 pages, each a separate site linked together by a entry/welcome site. That facilitates quicker opening and editing of a page rather than having an enormous single file opened. If something goes wrong with one site, i.e. damaged the entire family site is not affected. I have 3 demo sites that were once one site. It got so big and clumsy to open and use that I broke it down into 3 separate demo sites with links to the others. It also makes backing up of sites you're working on a lot quicker as the old pages (sites) have been backed up and don't need further backing up. It's just a workflow preference.

  • Can't open iWeb 09 even after Time Machine restore to new

    Well I broke it!
I tried to open a saved iWeb html file that was saved from my old Intel Mac Mini running iWeb 08 that I Migrated over via Firewire. I even tried to restore iWeb using Time Machine, from when it worked new out of the box, no luck. When I click on the iWeb icon a small window pops up:
    Can't open file "~/Desktop/WebSite/About_Me.html."
Locked up. So is there a file that I can modify back to where I had it? Thanks

iWeb can't open html files. It can't import them, either.

Same with my iWeb site... pages published last month work but new ones do not show AdSense ads. Looks like something broke.

  • Creating a table in the application pages and pasting it into iWeb 08

I have learned today that if you create a table in pages and then copy and paste it into iWeb 08 it uses the the ORIGINAL entry in the upper left cell as the name of the png file that is created as the image for the iWeb folder.
If that ORIGINAL name had a space in the name the resulting server can probably not link successfully the data in that png file.
Solution: When you FIRST create the table in the application pages that you plan to copy into iWeb use a single word in that upper left cell -- you can change the content later but the "pasted" file will be that word.png.
    Enjoy!

I use the class cl_xml_document to create XML documents.
It has all the methods required to create XML documents...perfectly. It is fairly straightforward when you get into it...and you can produce very good xml files.
    also, try this little report...
whilst this is not full blown XML example it may give some ideas or possibly the format generated maybe be enough for your needs. This is a simple test example of converting an ITAB into an xml type file and then it was sent to a server
    report zsjc2.
    data :
      itab   type table of sflight,
      l_xml  type ref to cl_xml_document.
    start-of-selection.
select * from sflight into table itab up to 1 rows.
    end-of-selection.
      create object l_xml.
call method l_xml->create_with_data( dataobject = itab[] name = 'ROOT' ).
      call method l_xml->display.
      data: v_uri type string,
            v_response type ref to  cl_xml_document.
      v_uri = 'http://broker.dev.eproc1.uk.compass:7080/saphttptest'.
      call function 'SWF_XML_SEND_VIA_HTTP_SERVER'
        exporting
          uri                            = v_uri
          request_document               = l_xml
    *   USER                           = ' '
    *   PASSWORD                       = ' '
       importing
         response_document              = l_xml. "v_response.
You can use other methods, additional to what this example shows, to create a true XML file. You need more coding - but the above example is just a 'quick and dirty' half waay house to get you moving along in one possible direction. I actually preferred using the class than transformations.

  • Upgraded to iPhoto 08 this morning now iWeb is completely messed up

My templates are gone - all of the pictures!!!!! I open a page it has no templates at all and I get an error saying that the page is missing files that are the background and headers. All of my pictures are now envelopes as place holders. What do I do!

    Installed Upgrade to iLife '08.
Opened iWeb and ok'd upgrade. Did updates to my site. Published it and verified this morning it posted correctly - it did.
Opened iPhoto and ok'd the upgrade. Closed it out because I couldn't figure out how to edit a photo.
Opened iWeb. Elegant template is greyed out in the themes area and every page is grey lines with only text. The pages all have errors telling me that parts of the template are missing - header.png, etc. Not one picture is on the site. Every one is a placeholder.
It's almost like the upgrade broke the link to the pictures. Not sure about the template issue though.
