IWeb bug

Help please! I spent hours working on my iWeb photo gallery. i use an external device. I saved and published to a folder. Used iWeb SEO tool to add meta tags and published via dreamweaver. I went to update some pix and all the pix are gone that I spent ages adding. I turned on my external hard drive but they're still not visible. This has happened several times and I've had to redo it each tie. This is so not acceptable if I want to keep building on the galleries. How do I import my last saved folder work back into iWeb so I'm not starting from scratch each time??
So frustrated and dejected.

yogaflight: Though Rage does not state it clearly, their advice is to not use the iWeb SEO tool on a blog. I did so and also lost all my comments. I wrote Rage support and got the following answer:

  • Apple should still fix iWeb bugs.

Apple should still fix iWeb bugs, even though it has been discontinued. There are many many bugs still in the latest version.
One of which is failure to save your current work and to enable the publish button when changes are made.

That's like asking Ford to continue to provide parts for the Edsel or Chevrolet for the Corvair.
What system and iWeb version are you using?  iWeb 2 (08) is not compatible with Mt. Lion.  iWeb 3 is. Others who have had that problem did find fixes.
As Roddy pointed out you could learn how to use iWeb and it's menus?

  • IWeb Bugs and a wish for the future. :)

    Hi there,
Two issues that I've found moving my photoblog to iWeb, and I'm wondering if they are bugs or issues that the community knows about:
    1. I've changed the template I used a lot - font colours, background, etc. Now when I create a new blog entry, it uses the old, standard template and I have to change everything again. Is there a way to make iWeb realise that I've changed my "default" template settings so all new entries remain the same? It seems not. This is my feature wish.
    2. Related to this, I solve this problem by just duplicating one of my existing pages and then changing the photo and content and date. The PROBLEM with this is where i think the bug exists. In iWeb, when I click Next/Previous, it goes between the different entries in chronological order, as expected... but when it publishes to .Mac, the next/previous buttons are really messed up, linking to articles/pages that are not even close to being near them in order. I've been able to determine that:
    a. Create three new entries in iWeb. Works good.
    b. Duplicate the middle entry, put it LAST in the order.
    c. The NEXT button on this new, last entry links to the third item, just as the original 2nd item did before I duplicated it.
Is there any way to make iWeb re-calculate the next and previous buttons before you publish it? Or even better, any Apple folks around that can confirm/escalate this?
UPDATE: It's also possible that iWeb is ordering the next and previous buttons based on the time the entry was created in iWeb, rather then the time specified on the entry. If you are porting older entries from a previous blog, this can be a pain because you're not necessarily putting entries in from oldest to newest.
Either way - the behaviour isn't as expected: next and previous buttons ordered by the date specified in the iWeb 'Entries' window.
    3. This is more advanced, but seems a bug none the less. I use .Mac publishing, because it's integrated and easy. But I also have my down domain, which I have configured to just "forward" to my .Mac folder. So, when someone goes to www.mydomain.com, the server connects to web.mac.com/me/iWeb/ and makes the request, translating the path. This works really great (save some initial headaches with character encoding), but comments in iWeb blogs don't work when you do this.
They work directly when you go directly to .Mac, but something about the comment system requires that the client browser accurately present the URL to the .Mac server, and in my case, it's reporting my domain name. As a result, when you click to add a comment, you get a "there has been an error" page and it dies.
If this little annoyance could be fixed in a point release version of iWeb, that would be AMAZING.
    4. Lastly, one more wish for the future. .mac domain hosting. Domains aren't just for businesses - lots of people have them for their blog/photos/etc now. If I could make my domain point to my .Mac web hosting without any messy translation, I'd be in heaven. I don't even care if I only get my single e-mail address on the domain - just the hosting would be so excellent.
    MacBook Pro 1.83 Mac OS X (10.4.6)

It sounds like it! I ported about 10 new posts from my old MovableType installation last night and am seeing the same behaviour - duplicating entries definately breaks the chronological order of next/previous.
    Apple?
Is there a place I can file a formal bug report?

  • Iweb bug : doesn't open after template update

Hello, I have the iWeb 08 version (830 a43), everything was working fine until I downloaded a free template on internet. After it's installation, I can't open iWeb anymore.
It shows up in the upper bar and in the lower icon bar but there's no windows with the websites to work in,
    Anyone having the same problem?
    Thanks for your help!

That's a problem with those templates.  Many don't work with iWeb.
First repair disk permissons with Disk Utility and try iWeb again.  Next, try the following:
1 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iWeb's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
3 - launch iWeb and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
If that's unsuccessful reinstall iWeb from your backup or the original source (i.e. the disks that came with your Mac).
    FWIW:
In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb bugs

I designed my website on IWeb06. I published my website and it was perfect. I decided to upgrade to IWeb08 for the added features.... What a mistake!!! The following problems arose:
    1. All my fonts suddenly had conflicts (apostrophes and accents were converted to question marks once the site was published online but not when published to folder and viewed) I had to convert all text to image in order to fix the problem, as mentioned in the HELP section, except in the photo captions where this is NOT POSSIBLE. Therefore photo captions publish with question marks for certain characters.
    2. The shadows I added to my photos in the photo album (which worked fine in iWeb 06) DISAPPEAR when the website is published either to folder or .mac. But the shadow specs still appear when working in iWeb...
Can someone please explain why these settings do not work as well in iWeb 08?!?

    1. All my fonts suddenly had conflicts (apostrophes and accents were converted to question marks once the site was published online but not when published to folder and viewed)
Nothing to do with fonts, most likely your ftp settings were wrong.

  • Solutions for "Unknown error occured" when publishing in iWeb

Many complaints where written on the forums about this annoying *"Unknown error occurred"* bug, while publishing in iWeb.
Until now, nobody could actually find the problem, but in most cases the problem is not a network connection, but an iWeb bug, that occurs during html files creation process.
I'm using iWeb a lot and through my work found several different solutions, that worked for me and for many other users. Try them all out, before going desperate and rebuilding the site from scratch:
    1. Try closing and reopening iWeb (do it in all other steps between operations).
    2. Try to publish the site Locally. If it works, try publishing to the server again.
    3. Try publishing the ENTIRE site, first Locally, then to the server (File>Publish Entire Site). This operation forces iWeb to rebuild all the files from skratch.
    4. Try closing iWeb and deleting the User/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iweb.plist preferences file. iWeb will create a new one again next time it opens (don't worry, you will only lose iWeb preferences, but not your website)
    5. If publishing locally worked, but online didn't, then upload the locally published site folder to your server manually using any FTP client.
    6. If nothing works, try reinstalling iWeb. Before doing that, back-up your project file, which is located at +User/Library/Application Support/iWeb+ to some other location.
Also, as an advice, avoid using non web-safe names in your files and web pages. I.e. - don't use spaces and Capital letters, this may cause problems. For example, instead of naming a file: "Nice picture.jpg", name it: "nice_picture.jpg"
Post more solutions, if you have them.

Try signing out of the app (Store menu,) quitting the app, restarting the app and signing back in.

  • IWeb: changing the slideshow image scale and viewing time

I moved my iWeb sites over to another server (iPage) and went through the sites to observe for inconsistencies and problems.  While doing this, I noted that my image galleries, when placed into the slides show mode, were very small on my iPad 2 and that they cycled through at a very high speed.  I thought this was odd and I wondered if anyone else has observed the same thing?  It sounds to me that an HTML under-the-hood modification may be required or a bug fix to the iWeb code is in order, to change the sideshow image scale and viewing time/slide value.  Comments?  [I suspect that Apple does not hold iWeb bug fixes at or near to the top of its software development to-does priority list.  Sounds like I need to change web authoring software.]

Why do you think it's a bug?
    Anyway :
Is there any reason photos in an album page display small on the iPad, but normally on an iMac? And videos on a movies page don't play on the iPad, but are OK on the iMac?
I use my own show :

  • IWeb '12?

Is Apple discontinuing iWeb or can we expect updates in the future?
    Wish list:
-HTML5 Features and interactive content creation tools
-Ability to sync and maintain a website from multiple Macs running iWeb
    -Bug Fixes

    No. If they follow the usual numbering method it will be titled iWeb 4. The 11 or 12 just refers to the iLife version it fall in. Something like how iPhoto and iLife are numbered;
    iPhoto vs iLife
    <blockquote style="padding-left: 25px;"
    ▪ iPhoto 1: released January 2002
    ▪ iPhoto 2 (iLife): released January 2003
    ▪ iPhoto 4 (iLife '04): released January 2004
    ▪ iPhoto 5 (iLife '05): released January 2005
    ▪ iPhoto 6 (iLife '06): released January 2006
    ▪ iPhoto 7 (iLife '08): released August 2007
    ▪ iPhoto 8 (iLife '09): released January 2009
    ▪ iPhoto 9 (iLife '11): released October 2010

  • 3.01 Text underlined bug.

I designed a site using 2.04 and it looked fine after publishing it to idisk. I was so impressed that I went out and bought iLife '09. After updating to OSX 10.5.6 and working in iweb 3.01, about 50% of my text was now UNDERLINED when published! I trashed prefs, repaired perms, cold shutdown, changed fonts, changed backgrounds, nothing worked! Made an appointment with Apple store genius bar, the guy says you have to highlight the text that's appearing underlined, and add Shadowing, adjust to where it looks like you want, and PRESTO! When you publish it, it's fixed! Now if only Apple would fix it correctly...
Hope this helps someone who's tearing their hair out.

Doing what the genius suggested will turn all your text into an image and your pages will take forever to download.
This looks more like a problem with your iWeb installation as it is certainly not a general iWeb bug.

  • How to Create a Photo Landing page

I have several photo galeries and would like to use them all in a single site (.mac) publishing with iWeb. The problem lays on the pages structure itself, if I have many to one I can not post all my galeries and use a thumb to call the photo album to that specific selection. I can only create many albums and they all will have the same level as other menu items (welcome, about me, blog etc...) I need to keep all my albums in a single landing page being a child to the " photos " page and from where the visitor should choose which album they will see.
Please let me know if any workaround for this issue.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kerberos

    Sean,
Are you going to take out the "lorum ipsum"
(placeholder text) in the Photo Page menu? Also, you
need to check your links to the albums. they are not
all correct and clicking them brings me to the wrong
    album.
    Great start!
    lori
    Lori,
Thanks!! I told my wife that since I did the hard work, she gets to come up with words for the placeholder text and favorites lists underneath them. Alas I am on the road for the rest of the week and she doesn't have a copy of the site on her Mac.
I did a quick check of the links and didn't see any bad ones, that is to say each photo goes to the proper photo album. However, if you scroll slowly down the page you will notice that the mini-picture/links slowly get out of sync with their descriptions, so by the end of the page the picture/link is either beside a totally wrong description or doesn't appear to have one at all. This is an iWeb bug, since each picture has an anchor point in the text. Incidently it appears correct in iWeb itself, it's just when the page is viewed in Safari (and I assume other browsers) that the pictures appear to slowly drift from their anchors.

  • Trouble with flash and image links

    Hi
I have been using Dreamweaver for a while, but only for simple websites.
I have now started on a new site, using a template based on css, with two sidebars. I am new to using css, and are "learning by doing"
I wanted to use flash to make navigation buttons in the sidebar to the left, but when I put the flash into the box on the template it does not appear on the page in my browser, or it shows as a white field. So I moved the flash-file to the main part of the page, and it appears there. I have also attached links to the single buttons in the flash, when I made the flash-file, but they do not seem to work at all when I publish the site.
I gave up the project of using flash buttons as navigation and tried to use images instead in the sidebar. The problem then was that I get the blue borders around the linked images. I have found the solution to that of this forum, but as being new to the whole css thing I do understand how I can apply a rule, and where to do it.
    My site is here: www.zookjempen.no/test
Here you can see my flash buttons in the middle of the page, but nothing happens when they are clicked. Originally I wanted these buttons on the left, where the white rectangle is, which is the same flashfile.
Could someone please try to explain to me why I get the white field instead of the buttons, and what I need to do to get the buttons to work when clicked?
As I said I am pretty new to css, so plain english would be great.
    Thank you.

Thanks. I was thinking of doing screen captures and showing those. But, I fixed the problem.
Maybe it was my particular case, but it was sure screwed up. By recreating the Home page with the links at the top, checking to make sure it was OK, and then duplicating that page for remaining pages, I solved the problem.
Interesting though, even though my "Gallery" page was long ago deleted, if I change the name of a current page back to "Gallery", it gets screwed up again. (This, even though the page is working fine prior to the name change.) That's either my defective site or an iWeb bug.

  • Flash with full path link does not work, does anyone know how?

Hey guys do not think many people now needed it, but to kill me and I can not.
I need the following: Place a swf with the full path of another server.
Until then beauty is only put http://www.outrodominio.com.br/flash/arquivo.swf right?
to ai beauty, opens td bem ... easy ....
    More link is broken
    If anyone can help.
    anyway...thanks!

    Cute site! I like it!
Regarding your links at the top of the page. Things to try:
    1. In the Inspector Page tab, try adjusting the header height value to 0.
    2. Move your links/buttons down the page slightly.
    3. Instead of making the text hyperlinks, maybe overlay a 1% transparent rectangular shape over the whole button to make your button a "hotspot" hyperlink.
I think the problem right now is that there is a reserved area at the top of the template pages where the navigation menu usually lives. For some reason links placed here sometimes to not work even if the navigation menu is turned off. Seems to be an iWeb bug.
Give the above suggestions a try. Any one of them could help. Let me know what happens! Good luck.

  • NO Shadows

I am having problems with shadows showing up in iWeb, but not appearing when the site is published. There is a problem here and it doesn't seem to be related to a specific browser. Shadows worked fine before in Firefox... and on Macs and PCs.
I have tried deleting shapes with shadows and reinserting new ones then adding a shadow... after publishing, the shadow does not appear on the web page for that shape.
I have tried adding a shadow to text as an object and that doesn't work either.
The only time the shadow shows up is when you highlight the text and then check apply shadow.
So, if anyone has any better ideas than, it is a Firefox issue, PLEASE let us know. JS

Got the same problem here too and it surely is an IWEB bug, not a firefox bug. For a simple reason. A website has to be compatible with the greatest number of browsers to be a good website. Firefox is one of the most used browser in the world, surely more sued than Safari, so making the site usable by Safari and not by Firefox is just a no-sense.
Plus Iweb worked in the previous version, why did I spend my money to have something that doesn't work and have almost no new feature (Plus some more templates, never used templates after all)?
This whole thing is a no-sense. Please, developers, do something about it, that's a significant DOWNGRADE in Iweb features. Very bad.
Apple software should be easy and immediate to use. This new IWeb is just unusable and buggish. That's absolutely baaad.
We want our shadows back and we don't want only people using IE or Safari to be able to browse our sites. Isn't that maybe, if someone wants to think really nasty about it, a move to have more people use Safari???
I really hope it is not. Because it was a really stupid move in any case.

  • Links not work sometimes?

I have a bunch of tabs on the top of a site and they are all linked to the proper pages. I copied and pasted the tabs (already linked) between pages. For some reason two or three of them don't work.

No, I didn't hyperlink the text, I don't want the
underlines. I linked the whole object.
What "object" did you attach the hyperlink to? I guess it doesn't really matter, though, since the problem seems to be related to the "reserved" space. I'm just curious of the different methods of hyperlinking that people use. FWIW, I only saw one set of links in the source, too...but I'm no expert in HTML by any stretch of one's imagination.
Moving the text objects down a centimeter worked. Is
there are way to remove the reserve within iWeb? If
not, what code is it in the source so that I can
manually remove it, I don't see it.
Just as I suspected. This is definitely an iWeb bug. There isn't any way to remove this in iWeb directly. Looking at the source, I'm guessing that it is related to these lines...
    I don't really know, though.
Incidentally (and this has nothing to do with the problem at hand), I noticed that there is a 1 x 700 image on the page...

  • Template Loses Flash Content
