IWeb Compatability with iWork's Pages application

I want to create newsletters in iWork's Pages, e-mail them as integrated e-mails (not as attachments) in Mail and also post them as additional archived webpages on my .Mac hosted iWeb website.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
Kevin

I just did a little testing. The current version of Pages in iWork 08 did better than I expected. It has both Word Processor and Page Layout modes. Page Layout mode lets you add real pages and word like a layout application.
It places Photoshop and AI files with PDF preview, and the first page of a regular PDF file (I couldn't find where you could choose pages). Choose Insert > Choose. The Help says it accepts all QuickTime-supported file formats.
"After importing an image into a document, you can mask (crop) it and change its brightness and other settings. You can place an image inside a shape, text box, chart element, or table cell. Pages also lets you work with graphics with transparency (alpha-channel graphics)."
Also supports adding 2 and 3D charts, sounds, movies.
I created objects and colored them with the CMYK sliders. I didn't see a way of choosing spot colors.
PDF is one of the export formats (without the choices of course of InDesign). It correctly exported the PSD, AI file, and PDF. It correctly passed the spot colors in the AI and PDF files into the exported PDF. And the CMYK-colored pages objects came out in CMYK!
Much better than Microsoft Word.

  • Appleworks docs and compatibility with iWorks application?

Appleworks docs and compatibility with iWorks application? Does it exists? I do not have iWorks and will soon be upgrading my op sys to 10.4 (it really is in the mail) I currentl have 10.2.8
I use AppleWorks a great deal. Does iWorks replace it? or enhance it?
Will AppleWorks be upgraded or is 6.2.9 the last iteration?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions SYGWS
iWork (no "s") is not an application, but the name given to the package of two applications, Keynote & Pages.
Keynote is a presentation application that can open AppleWorks 6 presentation files & PowerPoint files. I haven't use Keynote other than to view a few presentation. You probably can find a lot of information by searching the Keynote forum.
Pages is the word processing/page layout application in iWork. Pages is able to open AppleWorks 6 word processing document as well as Word, text & RTF documents. It is not able to open any other AppleWorks documents or older Word documents (I'm not sure how far back it goes). Pages 1 (iWork '05) will not display floating spreadsheet frames in AppleWorks 6 word processing documents, Pages 2 can. Pages 2 has limited spreadsheet functions available in tables (as does Keynote 3, both in iWork '06). Pages can export as PDF, Word, plain text, RTF & HTML (HTML export is disappointing to say the least). It cannot export as AppleWorks (any version).
No one here knows for sure if AppleWorks will ever get another update & those that do have signed non-disclosure agreements, but it is extremely unlikely. In the iWork ’05 press release iWork is said to be "building the successor to AppleWorks."
Many users here, like me, use Pages for what it does so well & AppleWorks for what it does that iWork doesn't (at least not yet) - databases, spreadsheets & drawing.

  • Why won't my old Pages docs open with the old Pages application?

I have a whole suite of complex documents created with the old Pages - which will not open with the old Pages application. Why not? The new app appears not to have things I need - like autoflow to complex linked boxes for example, or easy kerning.
Is there a workaround to so that I can access my documents without having to redo them? I don't want to use the new app. It's hideous, lumpen and unsophisticated. Why has a decent product been replaced with crap?

    Can you clarify that?
What version is "the old Pages"?
    What version of OSX?
What happens when you try and open an old document with the "old Pages"?
Are you really saying that Pages '08/'09 won't open Pages 5 documents?
Because that is not a surprise, you need to Export the newer version documents back.

  • ColdFusion compatibility with Sun Java System Application Server

Background: A vendor that is doing a project for our
department told us that ColdFusion MX 6.1 is not compatible with
Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1 and
beyond. Since we are migrating our server environment to this
release of Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition,
we face a difficult situation in that our ColdFusion applications
will no longer run. Thus, we would like Adobe to answer a couple
questions which will help us determine what course of action we
    ought to take.
Q: Will applications we developed using ColdFusion MX 6.1 run
on Sun Java System Application Server Enterprise Edition 8.1? Below
is a detailed description of the Sun Java System Application Server
Enterprise Edition we intend to migrate to.
Q: Is Adobe aware of any compatibility issues with this
    configuration?
Q: What is Adobe's support commitment regarding future
releases of ColdFusion MX and Sun Java System Application Server
Enterprise Edition? Does Adobe intend to continue support this
    environment?

First of all, is there a reason why you are using jRockit?
Since the issue appeared after upgrading the windows, the issue would potentially be in the interaction between JVM and OS.
Also, there were some issues related to memory leak that were fixed in AS 8.2.
May be you should try with a Sun JVM and AS 8.2.

  • IWeb compatibility with IE8/Firefox

Hi all, first time posting...just found out about these forums recently & they have been helpful already so I am hoping some of you can shed some light on a technical issue I am having. Just launched my site recently & have been having issues with getting the domain to transfer, I think we've got that licked almost. My actual question is this....
My site which is very content heavy (fire apparatus photos, 100 pages currently with more planned) is very slow when viewing it on my PC laptop (about 2 yrs. old, fast processor with Vista...ughhh & a broadband connection). Some of the links on certain pages do not work at all (most do but there are about 10-15 pages where they don't). Per my 1-to-1 trainer's advice, I updated to IE8 & the latest version of Firefox to see if this helped but still no luck. Another trainer told me that due to compatibility issues, this may not be "fixable". With all the technology out there, despite the differing operating systems with PC & MAC, I can't believe there's no way to fix this issue. 99% percent of the folks visiting this site will be PC users & I don't think many will be thrilled about having to download another browser to view it.
Anyone have a clue how to remedy this? And no, I cannot reduce the amount of pics on the pages.
Sorry for the long explanation, hope someone here can provide some helpful input. Thanks in advance, Tom

1 - I use Web Site Maestro to optimize and upload my sites. It can reduce a site's size by up to nearly 47%. Image files can be compressed to a size you can set. I use a Quality Index (in WSM) of 69%. I've compressed image files with another application to a 41% level with good results for my needs. You can experiment with the settings to the the smallest size that's acceptable for you. PNG files without masks or transparent backgrounds are also optimized by converting to jpgs and optimizing.
2 - computers that don't have that font will substitute one that will probably not fit your design and cause it to look poorly designed.
3 - You might consider breaking down your site into multiple sites with fewer pages. That will allow you to upload fewer pages when changes are made. You can link to the other pages from a master site in a number of ways and then back to the master site.
If you go the multiple site route you could create separate domain files to manage the separate sites. Fewer pages to load in iWeb, etc. I use iWebSites to manage over 75 individual sites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
Study your options and choose the one you're most comfortable with.

  • Does iWeb come with iWork '09?

Hello. I recently installed iWork '09, which is supposed to come with iWeb. However, when I look in Applications  I can only find Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. I am running MacOs X Lion.

I love iWeb and have just purchased a refurb'd MBP in order to continue using it in Snow Leopard. While some folks have decent results running it in Lion, it is not stable. iWeb 9 is very stable in Snow Leopard. If you have never used it, you may not want to start now, as it will certainly NOT work in Mountain Lion.  I had far too may legacy sites already built, which is why I felt it was worth the expense to buy another machine to run it.
If you have never used it, you will not be spoiled by it! Sandvox has something similar and is user friendly and a similar interface. I did not like it, but, once again, I am spoiled. Rage has Rapid Weaver. This is much more powerful than iWeb. Has a difference interface. They offer some training videos.

  • Backward compatibility with iWork '06

does anyone know if iWork '08, specifically Pages, will open '06 files? if it can't, i don't know that i want to upgrade...i would rather not download the trial version. thanks in advance.

My post was ambiguous in using 'overwrite files.' I did mean the iWork '06 applications themselves, not specific work files. I'm a little leery of sending the old applications to the trash when Apple doesn't remove them through the update process. Most other programs, when updated, do not leave older versions of the applications sitting on my hard drive. See for example, iLife '08. Does iWork '08 use some aspect of iWork '06, or might I need those applications for certain files in the future? If not, why not do away with them when the user upgrades to iWork '08?

  • Questions for anyone who is familiar with Apple's Pages application

I'm writing something on page layout software and have some questions about Apple's Pages product:
Does Pages let you import native Photoshop files?
Import native AI files with PDF preview?
    Regular PDF files?
Does Pages let you work in CMYK?
    Spot colors?
    Spot and CMYK together?
    Export to PDF?
You don't have to answer all these. I can use any help I can get.

I just did a little testing. The current version of Pages in iWork 08 did better than I expected. It has both Word Processor and Page Layout modes. Page Layout mode lets you add real pages and word like a layout application.

    Much better than Microsoft Word.

  • Compatibility with iWork

What is the compatibility between iWeb and iWork? Can documents created in Pages be uploaded as-is to iWeb? Can templates available in Pages be used in iWeb?

There appears to be no connection between the two at all - other than the fact that they share a certain look and feel.

  • I have an iPad 2 with iworks, in pages and keynote I noticed it cuts the first letter on the right when I open an imported doc or ppt or even paste text from an email. I type in Hebrew (right to left language).

How to solve?pages and keynote cut the first letter when opening an imported file from doc or ppt or even when pasting text to a new pages document.
I write in Hebrew, which is a right to left language.
Never got a warning that this apps do not work In my language. They are available in my country's AppStore and that was the reason I bought the iPad.
    Thank you,
    Diego

All iWork apps, both for iOS and OS X, have always had bugs that make them unsuitable for RTL scripts for most purposes.  The only solution is to use something else.
Also you can tell Apple you views here:

  • I reloaded my old iWorks 08 to my iMac's new hard drive. With a new Pages document, I can't see the cursor. You can type in text but it is in white only. Any thoughts?

Hi. I lost my iMac's hard drive and had a new one installed. I reloaded my old iWorks 08 software and then transferred my Pages documents from a portable HD to the iMac. The files open but the original text in them (they are journals) are in white against the white background. Plus I can't see any sign of the cursor. I can hi-lite the text and change its colour but never to black. Plus the photos I inserted along side the text are barely visible, as if they had been badly faded.
Any thoughts on this? Many thanks.
    Richard

    Richard,
You must run Software Update and bring your old iWorks 08 to the latest release for compatibility with the current OS.

  • I would like to update Pages from 4.1 to 4.2. I did not purchase it from the App Store but installed it with iWorks. How do I complete the upgrade?

I would like to update Pages from 4.1 to 4.2. I did not purchase it from the App Store but installed it with iWorks. How do I complete the upgrade?

The iWork 9.2 updater is for those using Mountain Lion. Why do you want to update to Pages 4.2 if you're still running Lion? There is no benefit & many users have had problems.
That being said, you must make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. All three applications must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.
Now, choose Software Update from the Apple menu, from System Preferences or launch the Mac App Store & click Updates. You should get a window similar to this screenshot. Now click the Update button next to iWork 9.2.
Alternatively, you can download the standalone update here.

  • Using iWeb Switch, iWeb quits with error page

I am having a couple of problems with iWeb Switch.
Often when I open a local web, I get two webs opened. I use command W on the undesired one and then resave.
    This doesn't always work.
I also notice that iWeb suddenly quits with a large page of codes that ask me to relaunce or quit iWeb.
None of these problems cause me to lose work or stop me from using iWeb but is annoying.
    Thanks for any help.

If you're referring to the code that Cyclosaurus provided:
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
and you created the application according to the instructions in my post only you will know where the applicaion would be.  If you downloaded my version of it, iWeb Switch Domain, just search for it on your hard drive.
