Iweb contents &archives

Hi guys,
I've tried to find something similar, but I miss it. If you can help me, I would like to answer you where are restored the contents generated after the publishing of a blog. Can't I get all the realized Pages, photos and generally, all the work I did? For example, if I need to use and editing the blog from another mac, can I do? Which way? Anyway, have you any similar experience?
Thanks in advance
Paolo

Paolo,
I'm new to this too, but all your iWeb site info will be stored on your iDisk, in the Web folder.
All the info for your site is there, but if you are new to this, I wouldn't mess with anything. That is the quickest possible way to a screwed up site.
It should be possible to edit the blog using iWeb from another of your Macs, but I would certainly have some synching setup between them, possibly by using your iDisk as a means of keeping files current and backed up.
Should be lots of info here somewhere from people who travel and update their blogs from multiple or mobile computers.
Good Luck!

  • Error in Export Content Archive

    Hi,
I am trying to export Content Archive using Archiver applet present in the admin applets but its getting failed, while the Table Archive was done successfully.
The error I am getting is as below:
"Export error for archive 'ContentArchive_13June'" in collection 'Eb_UCM': Aborting. Too many errors ".
And the logs present in the log files are:

Error     6/14/2011 11:09:27 AM     Unable to publish the schema. Published schema directory could not be swapped into its proper location. [ Details ]
I have also tried after changing the file permissions on /home/ucmuser/oracle/ucm/server/weblayout/resources/schema.work, but the same logs are comming.
    Please help.
    Thnks,
    Sunny

    Hi,
Add Configuration Variable MaxArchiveErrorsAllowed=500 at config.cfg file and restart content server, try to export your archiver.
If you still getting same error message like "to many errors" then increase value 500 to 1000.
    Thanks,

  • Transfer iWeb  content to new computer

My G4 finally died, but before I could back up any iWeb files. I have bought a new MacPro now, and need to know if its possible to get it all back from the internet version somehow?

    Tim,
I'm sorry....there really isn't anyway to import your
online site back into iWeb for further editing and
publishing. In the future, you should keep a backup
of the Domain file if you can. This is the one file
in which iWeb stores everything about your website.
Best of luck to you....and congratulations on the new
    computer! I am officially jealous!
I'm having this same problem-- I uploaded my iweb content to a pre-existing server (not .mac). since then I've had to do an erase and install (long story) and my last backup was a month ago. I downloaded all the iweb files from the site... but there's no way to restore them and get back to work?
    my question is:
if I restore my domain file from a backup a month ago will I be able to add files created AFTER the backup? there's no "import" feature in the file menu.
    or am I just screwed?
    thanks in advance

  • Transfer old 1.0 iweb blog archive into a new template

I want to change templates for my iweb blog. Is there a way to copy my old blog archive into the new site. I'd hate to loose all the old content.
    Thanks
    imac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Unfortunately, as of this moment with iWeb 1.1.1 there is no way to change themes/templates for pages that are already published. You will have to recreate your blog in order to use a new template. Alternatively, I guess you could just start a new blog with the new template.

  • How do i transfer my iweb content to new laptop?

my hard drive on a mac book died - RIP. how do i download the content from my iweb account to my new laptop? the store clerk said that it was possible but doesn't seem obvious to me. i REALLY don't want to lose all my blog site content!

    Hi Old Toad,
A really good way to make a backup of the domain file I found it out ALL BY MYSELF (not exactly...)
I tried out varkgirls Automator which actually makes a .zip file of the domain file and puts in a location of your choice... My 500MB site got 430MB in zip...
I didn't get the point of that automator I mean: I can just drag & drop my domain file to my external HD and it would be the same... So I didn't really like it, I'm sorry for that...
BUT Varkgirl also mentions the Mozy stuff... 2GB of free online storage for backup and, at the moment, I really Love her for mentioning that...
I made a backup of my domain file through Mozy (without zipping and so on) now what's the point? The point is I saved 430MB of storage and got additional 1570MB and best part yet to come: when I modify the Domain.sites2 in iWeb and make it backing up again it turns out that Mozy is so intelligent that it finds the pages I modified and uploads only those to Mozy, I don't have to backup the whole 500Megs every time, isn't that great? It's fantastic! Oh yeah and you can tell Mozy to automatically backup every day or once a week or manually backup.
AND "one more thing" (like Jobs said once in a Keynozte pres. I think it was the one he first mentioned the iPhone => big surprise) I MAYBE (I'm NOT sure) could also edit it by restoring it on another computer (of that I'm sure) and then put it back (of that I'm not sure, I think it would need to upload the whole 500MB file)
Well... For people with .Mac that's not quite a revolution, but for those whom, like me, don't have it it is... I think...
I hope someone understood what I meant...
    Regards,
    Cédric

  • Moving iweb/mobileme archive files to wordpress

I was able to pull my more current posts from my iweb/mobile me site to my new site using an xml import. However, the xml file for older posts in the archive only contains headlines - no copy which means it facilitates importing a bunch of headlines and empty pages. Anyone know a work-around short of individually ftping the file for each archive post or copying and pasting into wordpress? I have a stored copy of the old site on my local hard drive so access is not a problem.
    thanks!

You need to move the domain.sites folder from your computer to her computer.
    Go to the Go menu in the Finder and in the field that opens up enter;
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
You wil see the domain.site file in there. Move it to the same location on her computer.
All websites are stored as one project file in a single domain.sites file. So once you move it over to her computer you can open it up in iWeb and delete any other sites in there.

  • IWeb content missing...

I spent a good hour chatting on the Apple chat support on this issue and it isn't resolved.
The problem is simple. When I publish a website, no errors. Nothing shows an error message or problem in any way. However, when I check to see the is as it should be, it routinely is missing content be it filler photos or html flash photo galleries. It is extremely frustrating as this is my professional site and Im pretty close to dropping iWeb and getting a real server that actually works and has better speeds.
Something to note, the files that appear missing are different every time. Sometimes a gallery will load. Other times when you click the link to go to the file, a mobile me error page comes up saying "the account is inactive" which it isnt. This all started happening since the mobile me update 6 days that I saw on the mobile me activity status on the apple website. This has never happened before and the problem is recurring across a variety of web browsers.
Any suggestions would be helpful. I have tried what the apple support site says in deleting the apple.iweb.plist files in the library. It didnt work.
    Suggestions? Anyone else having issues?

First before I forget let me suggest that you lengthen the Contact page so that the white at the bottom of the page is not seen. You can do that in the Inspector/Page/Layout pane. The default size is 480 tall. Make that 800 and that should do the trick.
I could find no missing content on your site. Often, however, some of the elements wouldn't load the first time but would after refreshing the page a couple of times. That has to be server slowness
Since this is a commercial site and reliability is important you might consider moving your site to a commercial hosting service. You will find that loading times will be much faster and you'll have better support, actual ear-to-ear support. If you search these forums you will find what I am saying is generally supported.
Also it's against MobileMe's Terms of User to host a commercial web site. I've never hear of that being enforced but in the event you lose sales due to server slowness or being down you would have no legal recourse. Just a heads up on that.
Let me reiterate again, all the sites files are there. For some reason there are times they don't load. It really looks like server issues and not iWeb.

  • IWeb '08 archive page blank

I just tried to change the theme of my website in iLife '08 and everything worked fine except now my blog archive page is completely blank. The entries page still has all the entries and still links to the archive page but the archive page is blank in iWeb. I have not uploaded it to the web yet since I changed the theme- I don't want to lose all the entries. Is there any way to re-create the archive page for the already complete entries? Thanks.

I have the same problem as you, but lost all 10 new pages on a new site I just created. I did upload the new site with no problems and the pages are still online, but empty on iWeb. All my previous sites are untouched.
As you have not uploaded, I assume the problem is with the software and maybe Leopard? I'm waiting for Apple to fix the problem. I have no answer for you, there are plenty of others with blank pages waiting for Apple...

  • Transfer iWeb contents to another computer & merging Domain.sites2 files.

    Hi
I've a MacBook Pro with one set of iWeb files which are published. I've an older MacBook which contains a different set of iWeb files, which are also published. I want to consolidate both these set of iWeb files on one computer. I was reading that I need to transfer the Domain.sites2 file from one computer to the other.
When I do so, I don't want to clobber the original set of contents. How do I merge two Domain.sites2 files?
    thanks.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
How do I merge two Domain.sites2 files?
You can do that with iWebSites. Just remember to make backup copies of both domain files to be merged in case the merge doesn't go as advertised. I've merged sites before with no problem.

  • How to Restore iWeb Contents From iDisk?

After a format of my MBP I need to find out how to get the contents of my iWeb site back onto my Mac. Which directory does it belong to on my Mac for iWeb to recognize everything properly?

    So basically I'm screwed, right?
Unless you have a backup of your Home folder, otherwise yes
I can't copy the files from my iDisk to my Mac and have iWeb recognize them?
    No.
So when I start from scratch, will iWeb erase my current site from my iDisk?
If you give your new site a different name to the old one then NO, if you use a different name you will end up with two sites.
    Will

  • Iweb contents different on other browsers

people that use PCs and different browsers see the website content broken and different sizes.
Can you help to have different browsers see the same thing you do when you create in iweb on a mac?
    thank you

This isn't really a short checkpoint list. There's a LOT of information at a LOT of different places on how to make a website look "kinda" the same on different browsers, but nothing that will say how to make them look exactly the same because that doesn't exist. Because each browser has the ability to control the content that gets passed through it, each one makes certain "choices" on how to display the fonts, the images, etc.
If "kinda" the same will do, then three tips are:
    1) Use only the simplest fonts like Arial or Courier
    2) Compress your images outside of iWeb so that they're .jpg before dropping them in
    3) Don't use any of the special effects within iWeb like rotating, drop shadow, etc.
You'll notice that your fonts, letter spacing, and other small things like that won't look exactly the same. You may also notice a difference in coloring of your images, but this will help to at least make your site recognizable in different browsers.

  • Missing iWeb Content.

I was working on the iweb project the other night. Published it to .mac and than I logged out.
Today I went to it and all of the sites are there on the left but all the content is gone and it just displays a white blank page.
Nothing is there and I know I did not delete it.
    has anyone heard of this?
    Thanks
    Peter

Did you run the iWeb V 2.0.2 and the iLife Support updates?
If you did, try running Disk Utility and doing a restart.
If nothing else, the introduction of iWeb '08 has taught us to back up our domain file(s).
Go to Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb to copy this file and save it somewhere "safe".
Update this backup every time you make major changes in iWeb and before you install any upgrades.

To open your domain file in Lion or Mt. Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Some say it's a problem introduced with the QuickTime 7.2 "iLife compatibility" update...

  • Iweb pages archived

    Hey,
Anyone seen this archive? This is incredible.....our pages don't ever go away....even our mistakes. You can see Apple pages from 1996!
    http://www.archive.org/web/web.php

There are very few web site builders that will allow you to import your sites, with Flux 4 being one of them and also Dreamweaver, but you are looking at a massive learning curve here.  Flux 4 is another possibility if you can get to grips with that, but EverWeb will be the easiest for you to learn and is the nearest to iWeb that you will ever find, however, this will not import your sites for you either.
Unfortunately, iWeb produced very long and complex code, so it is not a good idea to import that code, as the site never looks the same really and the layout will not be the same either - I tried it with one of my iWeb sites in Flux 4 and it ditched it very quickly and started from scratch.
So in answer to Q1. No, not really, unless you want to start learning very complex programmes such as Dreamwever or you can get your head around how to use Flux 4 - they both have import facilities, but like iWeb, something that is very easy to use and where you don't need to know about coding, will not have import facilities.
You are better off starting from scratch I have to say.  Also, have another look at EverWeb, because the layout is so similar to iWeb and most things function the same as iWeb, although everything is improved, allowing you to add drop down menus in EverWeb and also the html snippet is improved, adding the code directly to your site, rather than displaying it as an iframe as iWeb did.
