IWeb Defaults

Is there any way to create a default format for my pages? Currently when I create a new page I have to go into inspector and change the width, height, etc. to match my other pages. I don't want to use one of the templates available, I have created my own. Is this possible?

I have created my own. Is this possible?

  • IWeb default page address is wrong

I have recently updated wy web pages including deleting an old page. Everything has published fine.
When I enter the default address for my site as suggested in the iWeb help, http://web.mac.com/[user name] "...insert your user name where it says 'user name' and don't use the brackets..."
I do this and tell my friends to do the same to keep updated.
The problem is that when I enter this into my browser it tries to go to a page I deleted and another page comes up that says "The Page you requested does not exist" I know that because I deleted it and replaced with an updated page.
What am I missing? I've poured through the help viewer and tried everthing it says to no avail. What can I do to correct the default address?

Your short iWeb URL is http://web.mac.com/username
Usually this URL leads to the default site and homepage that is at the top of the Site Organizer list in iWeb. In other words, you can change which site your short iWeb URL leads to just by dragging sites/pages around so that the one you want is at the top of the list.
Sometimes things get a little wonky with multiple updates and adding and deleting pages. Not your fault. Usually, clearing your browser cache can do the trick (in Safari, look under the Safari menu and select "Emtpy Cache..."). But if this isn't working for you, then it may be necessary to clear out the cobwebs by having iWeb lay down your entire site file by file fresh. You do this by selecting "Publish All to .Mac" under the File menu in iWeb. This usually solves issues like this.
Try it out and see if it works for you. If not, post back and I'm sure that we'll figure something else out. Also, it helps sometimes to post your URL if you are comfortable with that.... you know how a picture can sometimes be worth a thousand words...

  • IWeb defaults to Entourage for Announcement email

Once my blog is published, iWeb produces the pop up for Announce Email or Visit the site. I don't use Entourage (it is unopened and not set up in my Office 2004 folder), my mail is through Mail. How do I make iWeb find Mail instead of Entourage?

Thank you. I had looked for a similar mail default in system preferences, it is not there. Thank you for a speedy resolution.

  • IWeb default title

Can some please tell me how to change the Blog page's default title because everytime I forget people ask me who Ivan is....
    thanks

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. What theme are you using? What shows at the top of the page is the Text in the top text box of the page. See this test Blog of mine and what's in the top text box is what shows in the browser's frame: Test Blog. Then check the other pages and you'll see what's in the top box is in the browser's frame.
Find that text box and change it or change your name to Ivan.

  • Iweb opens with a blank default page..where has my site gone?

I have been using iweb to run a web site for almost 18months. Yesterday I tried out "iwebsites" which I downloaded from apple. It suggested I can run multiple sites and a friend wants me to run one for her. Originally I was advised to set up a family pack dot mac account which would let me have more than one site . I upgraded my single user account. However I find that I can only publish with one domain name, hence the reason I looked at iwebsites. However, since trying it out I find that when I go to update my site , iwb opens a blank default page and my listing for my original site is gone. Where has it gone? I publish all to iweb & I don't think I have published to a folder.I can't find my default page at all and think I may have to redesign the site from scratch. Please help!I can still see my site if I visit it , here is the address:
    http://web.mac.com/cldominic/Site/clairedominicfamilyphotography.co.uk.html
But now I want to continue building it and can access the iweb default page to build on it.
    Please someone advise,
    Thanks
    Claire

Sorry to sound totally stupid but I think I have tried this . However I may not have done it correctly. When I enter the info what do I type? The http:// address or the name of the site. I haven't had much luck so far.

  • Default menu bar - what can I do with this ver. of iWeb?

iWeb default setup ... them = 'white'
    Menu items\text:
My first page won't let me capitalize the title (home). I don't want to actually, but:
My other pages won't let me NOT capitalize the menu item titles.
So I'm stuck having an uncapped first menu item, then all the rest are capped.
Is there ANY way to now change the fonts\colors on these default menus?
If not, what would be the most practical way for me to create my own menu bar? Or can I easily replace the default menu bar with my own, after the fact, by just re-linking the pages?
    All ears,
    Ben

    Hello Ben,
Creating your own menu is really easy and oftentimes it works better that the original one.
First to remove the original menu go to the inspector on the page tab, and uncheck the display navigation menu item. Then on your page make a text box and type in the names that you want for your pages select each name (one at a time) and click on the link inspector tab (that is the second one from the right) click on activate link and choose one of my pages in the window, select the page and you are done.
    Hope this helps

  • Iweb 08 - Menus not showing up on Internet Explorer

    Hi,
I have put together a simple photo site on iweb which I published on mobileme. I have then bought a domain name which I pointed on my mobileme site. On safari and Firefox I can see the menus all right but not on Internet Explorer. Any idea?
    My domain name is www.jmphotowall.com
Thanks in advance for your help.

The iWeb default navigation menu will not appear on a PC running Internet Explorer if java is turned off.
As you have no control over this the answer is to build your own navigation in a text box....

  • I have created a site with iWeb. I have replaced the iWeb Nav bar with a vertical one I made myself. Problem is, my top button disables itself if it overlaps into the "hidden" nav bar area. I can cmd click and drag it into this area, but then all the rest

I have created a site with iWeb. I have replaced the iWeb Nav bar with a vertical one I made myself. Problem is, my top button disables itself (and the animation doesn't work) if it overlaps into the "hidden" nav bar area (indicated by a blue rectangle). I can cmd click and drag it into this area, but then all the rest of my site is pushed down the page. Don't know what to do about this. I don't know how to bring the rest of the page up without dragging it also into the designated nav bar area. Also, by doing this, is it affecting my site in ant way? see my site here at www.steveburrowsimages.com
The home page is with it all draged into the nav bar area and the about page is with is outside the nav bar area (notice that the top button does not animate or work as a button.
Getting confused here. Anyone got any ideas?

Well, you made a good start with SEO by getting rid of the iWeb default navigation since it doesn't help the spiders and, out there in the real world, there are more people than you would think with javascript turned off in their browsers.
One of the downsides of iWeb is that it doesn't allow for the alt attribute in the img tag. Its well worth adding these to give you extra keywords even if you have captioned all your images. Use iWeb SEO Tool for this...

iWeb, just like most drag and drop software, creates a huge amount of code which causes the pages to load slowly in the browser. Running you files through an optimizer will help to reduce this problem and further reduce the size of image files even beyond the initial optimization you do before loading them into iWeb...

  • Deleted pages in iWeb and on hosting site but still appear in navbar?

I've deleted a couple of pages in a site built in iWeb and also deleted the files and html of those pages where my site is hosted (Earthlink). However, I'm still seeing the names of those pages in the navbar — NOT in iWeb, but when i actually access the site. The pages themselves are not there anymore, but their names remain in the navbar (and click through to an error msg).
This makes me think I haven't uploaded all the necessary changes. Where does the code for the navbar reside? I reloaded the home file+html (among other pages) but not the index.

If you are using the iWeb default navigation, try publishing to a local folder and upload the feed.xml with your FTP application.

  • IWeb '09 and creating an "Index" page for two separate sides of my website

I'm redesigning my website with iWeb '09 seeing that I've recently switched to Mac from being a life-long PC/Windows user. I'm not too web programming savvy so iWeb fits my needs as a very good program that redesigns my site very nicely (and quite inexpensively, as well).
My current incarnation of my website (http://www.jeffreykern.com) was designed by a professional web designer on Dreamweaver for PC a couple of years ago. Some time ago when I was trying to update my PC with XP SP 3 (bad idea as it turned out), my connection to my web hosting service got completely fouled up and I lost the ability to update the site and haven't updated my site since. Knowing that I was going to be switching to Mac (with my new Mac Pro) I never had the desire, or energy, to patch things up to update my site with my PC. Plus, I was in need of a redesign so I eventually got my site ready to go with iWeb 09. That's where I stand right now...
So, as you can see on my current site I have a main index page that splits up into the two sides of my life: the triathlete side and the writer side. I've already redesigned both sides of my site with iWeb, I'm ready to update it thru my web hosting via FTP and Transmit 3, but I cannot find how to create a main "Index" page on iWeb that will let me branch off into two different directions. By having that "Index" page intact I will be able to keep my domain of jeffreykern.com as it currently stands. I don't mind having to get two different domains for each of my two sides of my site but would like to avoid that extra step -- if, at all, possible.
Thanks in advance for your help,
    Jeff

Building three websites on three separate domain files would be my choice.
Its important to realize that you cannot have a page called "index" using iWeb because the associated index.html file will conflict with the one that iWeb creates.
As has been suggested, the first site would be one page. The site name would be jeffreykern.
This site will publish as jeffreykern_files and an index.html file. Inside this folder is another index.html file. This is the one your domain name will be directed at if you don't need an RSS feed.
If your server allows it, create a root folder on it called "jeffreykern" and upload the contents of the local folder to this and ignore the separate index.html file. Note that I said contents and not the folder itself.
A lot of servers require that you upload to a pre existing folder. In this case you will have to upload the index.html file and the jeffreykern _files folder.
The two other sites are named and published as writer and triathlete. The external index files of these two sites are renamed writer.html and triathlete.html.
These two files and their corresponding folders are uploaded to your root folder on the server after adding tags and optimizing.......
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/SearchEngines/SEO.html
Now you have a main (one page) site with two sub sites.
The domain name http://www.jeffreykern.com/ is directed at the index.html file so that when this is entered into the browser, the main page will appear.
The links to the two main sections, whether they be text and/or image, are created and selected as external hyperlinks.
    http://www.jeffreykern.com/triathlete/
    http://www.jeffreykern.com/writer/
Clicking these links will open the first page of their respective sites.
If you do the sensible thing and trash the iWeb default navigation to replace it with a custom one, you can include external hyperlinks to the landing page and the other site in this.
The website - iWeb for Musicians - is created like this and is built on 9 separate domain files for ease of updating and publishing. The whole site is tied together with a Main navigation to get to each section which has a Sub navigation to jump around that section.

  • Iweb SEO tool not updating website

I've figured out how to use Rages iweb seo tool however, it's not showing up on the web. Why not? It still shows the old "welcome" as my page title or "about us" as my page title. I can see the information I put into the tool and I've clicked "apply." When I click "apply" it says "your changes have been applied", but it's not updating! So, I tried publishing WITHIN the SEO tool and then I did see the changes (for the title tag) but my navigation bar was removed and I could only get to the home page. It looks like the url was different as well.
    Please help!

iWeb SEO tool is a very useful application but I wouldn't recommend using for FTP. After republishing your site with any changes, reapply the tags with SEO tool and then upload your files with an FTP application.
If you don't have one, the freeware Cyberduck is good.....

The reason that your website navigation is not showing is probably because the feed.xml file is missing. If you are using the iWeb default navigation you should consider getting rid of it and building a custom one in a text box as this is a lot better from the SEO point of view.

  • Links in navbar work in iWeb, not on site itself

    Hi Folks,
I got rid of the iWeb default navbar and made my own. I am linking to other pages within my site. They are set up correctly in the inspector, and in fact, when I click on the links in iWeb, they take me to the correct place. However, when I am online, on my actual site, the links don't even show up as links. Just text.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

You should be able to select the textbox containing the C3, D3 etc and bring it to the front - you should be able to select this and do it, because otherwise you wouldn't have been able to make them into links in the first place.
If you can't select it, move the shape containing the 'click on a group' text out of the way, select the C3, D3 textbox then bring it to the front, then move the 'click on a group' text back into position.

  • IWeb site promotion?????

I have three iWeb sites that are fairly well-read among my colleagues, and then a tiny little blog I've just started on TypePad. All of the blogs have a FeedBurner feed, which I promote. I do Google Alerts on terms that I often use, like "Original Green," and also on my name and the names of several of my colleagues I mention. I have never had a Google Alert EVER, EVER come up on any blog post EVER on my iWeb sites, but they come up like clockwork every time I post to the TypePad blog that few people read (yet.) What's up with the iWeb sites? Why are they (apparently) invisible to Google? What can I do to change this?
FWIW, if you can tell anything by looking, here are the three iWeb sites
    http://www.originalgreen.org (complete)
    http://www.mouzon.com (nearly done)
    http://www.newurbanguild.com (needs work)
And here's the little TypePad blog:
    http://mouzon.typepad.com/useful_stuff/
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance!!

You are using the iWeb default navigation menu which stops the spiders crawling your site.

  • Is there a way to identify a default blog AFTER it has been customized?

I'm using 'blog' pages as a way to create sub-pages for projects (with auto archive setups).
I've just created a rather elaborate custom job on one of the iWeb default blog pages. And now discover I want to create a series of similar 'blog' page setups ... based on the original default page. But I can't remember the original default blog page I used. Is there a way I can find this out - without complicated testing and cross-referencing?
    All ears,
    Ben

    use theme switching.
click on 4th item from the lower left corner of iweb window, will pop up selection pane.
scan through items in the pop up, you default blog is the one that will not hilite.
