IWeb downgrade

OK, while I do appreciate the new layout control, iWeb seems like a siginificant downgrade from the old .mac homepage application for displaying photographs.
In addition to the images being smaller in screen size, they are also larger in terms of memory (png vs. jpeg decision by Apple, apparently). You can no longer click on a photo to open it, and then advance to the next with arrow keys at the bottom of the screen. Instead, you are forced to use the slideshow, which has serious problems.
Slow loading can be related to network issues, .mac server issues, etc... and I can accept that to some degree. What I cannot accept is that when you start the slideshow, and the photo doesn't load after a few seconds, the controller goes on to the next slide! So you miss photos, and if the download is VERY slow, you might run the whole slideshow and see nothing. At least with the old homepage pages, you would be able to wait before going on to the next slide.
Bottom line, is there any way of going back to homepage? I tried exporting photos (at 800x533) from iPhoto, then uploading the folder using an FTP program, but the photo order is lost.
Thanks!
Mike

Mike...
I am experiencing this too! You are right on the mark!!
I sent a prototype site I did to replace my .mac homepage (with all the same pictures)... and it is MUCH slower to load than the .mac homepage site.
And you are right about the slideshow... the images are smaller... and they are not as crisp looking as the ones in .mac homepage (I opened them up and looked at them side by side in the slideshow windows). Then when you add the dynamic that the site loads slower than the transition time built into the slideshow (which is not able to be changed)... this new slide show, though a nicer format in terms of appearance of the window and controls... is a step down from the .mac homepage slide show if you care about what your images look like (and I do).
One thing I have confirmed on multiple computers and multiple browsers... is that the first time you load the site or run the slide show.. it is really s-l-o-w. If you then go back at some time to run it again... it runs faster and the first slide does show then. Check this yourself to see if this happens on your system, too.
The bad part is that anyone who gets your link... and runs the slideshow for the first time... will miss the first slide.. and have the whole thing be really sluggish and s-l-o-w. I already had friends to whom I sent the site link call me and complain about how slow it is... and we are all on high speed broadband cable.
I sure hope this all gets corrected with updates to iWeb!!! As it is now... I can't bring myself to get rid of my .mac homepage as I had hoped to do (since I could tailor my pages more for appearance). The .mac homepage may not be as fancy... but it works a lot faster and images look a LOT better!

  • Downgrade to iWeb 08

How do I downgrade back to iWeb 08? iWeb 09 is too freaking buggy, keeps quitting on me whenever I try to open one of the pages.

Better question is what software do I need to do this?
    TextEdit would do.
Here is the nitty gritty, please follow this it:
    1) back up you Domain.sites2 package, heck while you are at it... back up your whole home folder; there is more important stuff in your home folder than the stupid Domain.sites2
    2) control click on Domain.sites2 and select 'Show Package Contents'
    3) Finder opens a new window, there you find 'index.xml.gz' , double click it to decompress it to index.xml ... you might have to repeat step 2 to get back inside Domain.sites2, then
    4) open index.xml file with TextEdit
    5) search for the text --> bl:version=
    6) you find something like --> bl:version="92008102400"
    7) change the value 92008102400 to 72007061400 so it'll be bl:version="72007061400"
    8) save it (the index.xml)
    9) switch back to Finder, open the edited Domain.sites2 with iweb2, the sure way is to drag-n-drop the edited Domian.sites2 on to iweb2(.app) ... it might ask you to upgrade, do so.
    10) with any luck, your Domain.sites2 will open with iweb2, select one of the page in the sidebar (left side) and svae it (command-s)
Your Domain.sites2 is now back to iweb08 (your milage might/will vary )

  • Missing pages in iWeb 3.02 (iLife'11)

Since upgrading to iLife '11 one of my web sites doesn't display in iWeb anymore. I haven't updated this particular site (one out of a bunch, all hosted by different hosts, none are .me) but a few days ago I needed to add some info the site. Upon opening only one out of 6 pages displays correctly, the others display either a blank page or the background from the previously selected page, even if it is from a different site. Additionally, it takes the only working page a few seconds to load and just before it does, for a brief moment it displays some crazy distorted images.
Also, I have to delete iWeb's pref file (com.apple.iWeb.plist) every time I start iWeb because if not the main window doesn't show.
What's going on with iWeb? I'm beginning to regret to have ever installed it. The new version doesn't seem to have any added features apart from messing up my websites.

Since the iWeb in iLife 11 is the exact same as in iLife 09, i.e. V3.0.2, downgrading would be superfluous. What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
    Also try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.

  • IWEB 2.0.4 has broken the photo's page w/ gradient background

After updating today to the latest iWeb, I created a new photo's page. All my pages have a gradient gray background.
When I click on a picture, instead of the gradient filling the whole page it only fills the area where the photo's are.
This is in both safari and firefox 3.0.1

YIKES!!! It's worse than I thought! How do I go back to the previous version of i-Web!!!!???!!!
Seriously, how do I downgrade to the previous version?
Ok, here is what I mean,
    1. Go to:
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos.html
Click on any photo, you'll see that the gradient feature goes all the way to the top.
This is the way it's supposed to look, and did in the previous version.
    2. Now go to the new page I created with the updated software.
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos_3.html
Click on one of the photo's and you'll see that the gradient fill is blocked off at the top of the photo's... This is wrong... this where I believe the newer version is broken.
    3. The newer version also broke another page, a page that looked fine in the previous version:
    http://web.me.com/pgirolam/paulgirolamomusic.com/BCM_Pix.html
You'll see that the gradient starts 1/2 way down the page!!!
I not only updated the web.me.com domain space, but also my webspace on go daddy and they both looked the same. I tested on two computers, iMac and a PC. Both yielded the same results. I also tested on three browsers on both iMac and PC, ie7, firefox 3.0.1 and Safari
The good news is I had a backup of the web content from the previous version of iWeb. To see the way it's supposed to look, before I upgraded iWeb, goto this link:
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos.html
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/Photos_Cont.html
    http://www.paulgirolamomusic.com/BCM_Photos.html
Click on any photo, you'll see gradient all the way to the top.

An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/testsite/workfiles/DSC04544.jpg”.
this is the message i get every bleeding time I try to update my page. anything I can do, or is it just the mac crew that have buggered up thier RUSHED update.

yes - I have just done it - I tried to publish again
and got the same error, but on a different file...
bummer - this is really fustrating
This problem has been floating for several days already. There was a previous forum 'iWeb Publishing Nightmare' which ran over 4,500 people participating in comments and sharing their problems. Many had proposed solutions ending with more frustration among MacUsers.
All I did was downgraded back to 1.0 and shall wait until a fix is at hand. Use your original installer and choose custom, then select iWeb only.
I use iWeb for my work particularly every hour ... uploading work to clients. So I can afford time wastage here. I don't use or need 'Comments' nor the extra 6 new templates. My entire site is running over 100 pages with several sites.

  • Back to iWeb 1!!!!!!!

Well, iWeb 2 seems like it's snappier and easier to use, especially with the html upfront. However, after spending a whole evening splitting out one of my sites and fixing it up in iWeb 2.1 and constant freezes or crashes when publishing to folder or .mac, I am happily returning to iWeb 1.
Also, from what I hear, iWeb 2.01 has problems displaying correctly on different browsers which I never had a problem with iWeb 1. If Apple can get their act together I may switch in the future, but they sure botched this one!

  • Sudden publishing error on iWeb 06

I have updated my site since MobileMe kicked in, no problem. Now I'm getting this Publishing Error since I upgraded to 10.4.11:
"Can’t create the file “shapeimage3_link0.png.” The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
    I'm lost here...

Deborah ~ Your Public Profile settings in this thread imply you have downgraded from Mac OS X (10.4.11) to Mac OS X (10.4.7). On a Mac, MobileMe requires the latest versions of Mac OS X 10.5 or Mac OS X 10.4.11 (use Software Update to update to the latest versions). See this _.Mac to MobileMe transition FAQ_. And if you're not on the latest version of iWeb 1.x, Software Update should offer you its latest update also.
After updating to 10.4.11 (again!) and the latest iWeb 1.x, you may still see references to .Mac — particularly in System Preferences. According to the FAQ above, this is normal for Mac OS X 10.4.11. You can continue to use .Mac preferences.
    Deborah Zari wrote:
Will it automatically publish to MobileMe since .Mac is now gone?
Yes — because .Mac doesn't exist to publish to. (Although MobileMe could well be on the same physical servers as .Mac was on.)
    Deborah Zari wrote:
At some point I need to upgrade to '08, but I'll need to find complete, clear instructions on how to go about it.
Once you've installed iWeb '08 and opened it, you'll be invited to make your existing site (domain file) compatible with it. From there on, the short conversion process is automatic. You may find some differences in how your site looks in iWeb '08 (see here and here). If so, if you've made a backup copy of iWeb's key domain file and iWeb '06, you can continue to use them until you have resolved the issues with iWeb '08. And you'll want to preserve website comments when upgrading from iWeb 1.x to 2.0 — see here.

See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. And besides the backup suggestions there, the free SuperDuper! can also be used to regularly create a bootable clone of your entire internal HD on an external drive:
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper
...then if your internal HD fails, you re-boot with the Option key held down. Your Mac will start into Startup Manager, where you can use the arrow keys to select a Mac OS X volume to start from, i.e. your bootable clone from SuperDuper!. Besides the advantage of not losing any valuable data, you can continue working and use Disk Utility app in Applications > Utilities to diagnose the problem.
And, as mentioned before, this free SMARTReporter may give you an early warning of impending hard drive failure:

  • Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update?

Ever since my "upgrade" to iWeb '08, the text in my webpages does not appear. I haven't changed any fonts or colors. I have had to put my website back to it's iWeb '06 version.
Cyclosaurus mentioned that my "text box elements has attribute style.visibility set to hidden" and that I might be able to correct it if I were javascript saavy, I should be able to turn visibility attribute to visible with a few lines of javascript.
How do I do this? Does anyone know any quick javascript that I could cut-and-paste, maybe within an iWeb HTML Widget, that could counteract the "attribute style.visibility set to hidden"? Perhaps I can do this until Apple fixes this Bug/Glitch in iWeb '08.
Can my iWeb '08 site be fixed,or do I need to just wait for an iWeb update? Please help.
    Thanks.

Starting with the release of Firefox 7, the previous versions of Firefox (4.0.x, 5.0.x, 6.0.x) are no longer maintained with Security and Stability updates. Firefox 3.6 is the last previous Firefox version that is still being maintained.

  • Where's the feature located that sends an iWeb update notification to Facebook?

Is it in iWeb or in Facebook? And exactly where is it? I'd like to know where it's turned on and off. Can't find it! Thanks.

I have posted exactly the same post yesterday too. I even contacted the Sony team about it. I got a very rediculous and weird answer from them... They said we might have to wait extra time because the update released for those apps are for 4.3 and below.
I thought its a bug because when I updated the phone it also downgraded the movies application which had their update ages ago.
This is a cut out from my transcript I did yesterday with the guy called Daniel
Daniel:  Ok it seems that the updates even if available on your last software arent available for your handset on 4.4 and this should change as soon as they are.
Daniel:  You should get a notification when available.

  • Iweb version which allows to open 2 domains at a time

which iweb version which allows to open 2 domains at a time. where to download? works with lion?

You don't have to be a programmer to be able to download one piece of sotware that will allow you to merge domain files, so that is no excuse.
Also, whichever version of iWeb you use, it is impossible to have two domain files open at any one time to be able to drop and drag between the two.  The ony possible way of achieving this is if you have ONE domain file with all your sites there and on the left hand side it is possible to drag and drop between the sites.
That is why you were told to download the iWebSites programme specifically so that you could merge your domain files to do what you wanted.
The previous thread does appear to show that you successfully downloaded this programme and understood at some level how it worked - so what has changed?
Downgrading to any other version of iWeb will NOT help you and you can't drag and drop between domain files unless you have one domain file and you can then drag and drop between the sites and pages.
Other than this, you can't do what you want to and no messing around with different version of iWeb will change this.

  • Restoring original iWeb from iLife CD installation and the iWeb 1.1 problem

I was thinking of reinstalling the original iWeb from iLife CD and then republish my changes, but didnt want to make matters worst or lose my current iWeb online...
Anyone tried this? or any tips?

You need the following to succesfully downgrade to 1.0.1:
    1) a backup of your iWeb 1.0.1 Domain file from username/Library/Application Support/iWeb before you started using iWeb 1.1
    2) the iWeb 1.0.1 upgrade package
    3) iLife installer disk
To do it you need to:
    1) Delete the receipts first:
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWebApp.pkg
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWeb_101.pkg
    hard-drive/Library/Receipts/iWeb_11.pkg
    2) Delete the iWeb application.
    3) Then reinstall iWeb from your iLife disk. Then update back to 1.0.1.
    4) Put your old 1.0.1 Domain file into the correct place and open iWeb 1.0.1!
I downgraded to 1.0.1 using a backup of my 1.0.1 Domain file successfully with no problems.

  • IWeb and iDVD

I am, trying to install the recent updates to both of the above and when I try to install them on the HD I get a message the the applcation I presently have is not valid. I bought iLife '06 and installed all the apps invoved and they worked fine. Does anyone have an explanation or solution for this, Thank you,
    Louise Parrish

    Louise
Why do you seem hesitant about installing iWeb.
I have three out of four sites successfully published, but number four will not publish, I actually republished it from an external disc using iWeb 1.0.1. I spent a lot of time trying to get 1.1 working with this site, but it just didn't want to play, its a site with loads of photos, and for domestic bliss I downgraded it so that I can add updates.
Be sure to back up your domain files first (Just in case)
Have you tried reinstalling iLife from the installation DVD?
Once again be careful as I am not sure what happens to the data you stored, ie photos, music, movies etc.... I dont want you to loose it all on my advice. I think it should be fine, but if someone else would care to comment then I would welcome it......
A good backup is always a good idea.

  • Help Needed: Returning Back to Windows 8 after downgrading to Windows 7

Hi guys, im just new here.
I have a MSI GE40 gaming laptop which I bought 2 months back.
Within those 2 months of usage, I always encounter my laptop to be very slow in shutting down. It always take, maybe up to 10 minutes to fully shut down. The screen goes black but the power button stays on orange color, & as I said, it takes a long time  for the power button to be completely unlit. But for start up, its blazing fast.
Thinking that windows 8 itself is the culprit of super slow shutting down, I searched the net on how to downgrade to windows 7.
Of course I did make a back up first on a 16gb usb flash drive using the pre-installed recovery software from MSI which was completed successfully.
Then I made some tweaks on the bios (ie select legacy & disable secure boot) & boot using windows 7 installation DVD, deleted all partitions (since the notebook comes with GPT partition) to be able to install windows 7. I installed all the drivers which I downloaded from MSI website specific to my notebook.
But the problem is not solved, it is still very slow in shutting down, & now even boot up becomes very slow too.
So I downloaded & execute the firmware & bios for windows 7 from msi website (again, specific to my model). But still the same, the notebook is still very slow both in shutting down & start up.
So I decided to go back again to windows 8, I tried to boot from the flash drive (I adjusted from the bios & make the flash drive to be the first priority) but it did not boot from it. I tried F11 on start up & selected to boot from usb flash drive but again, to no avail.
So the last one I did was downloaded windows 8, make a bootable flash drive out of it, boot from it and luckily, I succeed - I have now again a windows 8 msi ge40 laptop.
But I wanted my laptop to be reinstated to factory setting, i.e, all preinstalled softwares are there, the bios is default for windows 8. So I tried to update the bios to the one for windows 8 again (since I downgraded the bios to the one for windows 7 when I downgraded the OS to windows 7). But I could not update the bios, the laptop is not booting from usb flash drive containing the bios.
I tried also to recover using F3 on start up but the system does not recognize the flash drive (with system back up). I tried also on PC settings but to no avail.
Now guys, I need your help.
How can I return back my laptop to default factory settings?
    Thank you.
(sorry for my not so good English)

    Hello:
I think it's not only about the OS version, you need to return this back to your shop to repair with the slow shot down issue, because the OS should be shot down in 30 seconds, far from your GE40 times.

  • Cannot publish from iWeb 08 after upgrading to Leopard

When I click on Publish from iWeb I first get a window .Mac Information asking me to login and a smaller window saying "logging in to iWeb". I click on sign in button from .Mac Information window and then get the System Preferences window telling me I am signed in and giving me my account status. From here nothing happens. The "logging into iWeb" message stays and nothing happens.
    What should I do?

Thanks and Merry Christmas to you too! I have experienced both modem/network problems and was unable to publish in Tahiti and Cook Islands because of that and now these problems which have nothing to do with network it seems - so yours may or may not be network related. I was able to cheat and copied my "Site" folder from my hard drive to my iDisk rather then publishing. I can't remember if you've tried this or not (read a lot of strings today) but you can publish to a folder and then copy that folder to your iDisk at /Web/Sites/iWeb/Site as "Site" after first renaming the one that is out there now. Let me know if you have any questions on how to do it. It sounds like you are traveling like we are and anxious to communicate with friends and family back home. When you are bored, our site is web.mac.com/baganworldtour.
At least we now have our first update out there in two weeks. But it took almost two hours to copy the folder and this won't work forever. Hopefully we, whether by the discussion room or .mac support next week, will be able to fix the problem for real.
    Thanks. Good Luck. Merry Christmas

  • How do I stop iWeb outputting multiple image files? It makes my site slow!

I'm a professional web designer (but don't let that put you off) who uses Dreamweaver and also handcodes HTML & CSS websites at work on a PC, but having got a new Mac for home use I thought I'd give iWeb a go for a personal site hosted on .Mac, showcasing my music and film efforts, that I didn't want to have to think about coding.
I've built a short little site using the attractive 'Travel' theme, just 5 or 6 pages so far, and have not yet added any multimedia content. However, it seemed to take ages to upload it when I published it to .Mac. So then I went to view it, and it was soooo sloooow to download each page, even on my 4mb cable connection. I know it's a fairly graphically-rich theme, but still!
I noticed that it was redrawing the navigation menu each time... and upon close inspection of the HTML code using Safari's 'View Source' to my horror I found out that that each page has a seperate '_files' folder that contains multiple versions of files that are also used in other pages - including navigation buttons and background images. I also saw that every element has styling applied to it 'inline' in the code, rather than in a single seperate style-sheet.
To confirm this I published it to a folder on my hard drive and checked it all out. What a mess!
As a WYSIWYG web page editor iWeb is great but it's an undisputable fact that the HTML markup and CSS code it produces is absolutely appaling. What's worse though is that it also renders whole swaithes of text as images and that it does create seperate folders for each pages content including images, CSS code and navigation buttons - so even though the same images and code are used throughout the site for the background and buttons and layout, they are written out as seperate files and have to be reloaded with every page!!!
This means that the .Mac server must be getting hammered and webpages are very slow to download and slow to render in Safari - it's almost like dialup when I'm viewing my iWebsite, and like I said, I've got a 4mb cable connection!
Looking at the code iWeb produces, it is good to see that tables are not used for layout, and that's one thing in its favour. But surely the whole point of providing 'themed' templates for users is that the same content is used across the site and therefore doesn't need to be created multiple times - one of the benefits of using CSS stylesheets. Why doesn't iWeb create a single stylesheet and make efficient use of repeated images instead of creating multiple instances of the same file for each page?
Perhaps there is a setting somewhere I've missed. If so, let me know someone!
It is a great WYSIWYG editor, but behind the scenes it's not efficient, it's not clean and simple and it's certainly not attractive - and I'm surprised at that coming from Apple! I know iWeb is a great tool for beginners and I'm a picky professional, but if I was Joe Public First Time Web Designer I'd be very annoyed by this.
Clean it up and sort it out Mr Jobs!
PS: Also, where does iWeb store the website whilst it's in production? I can't find it anywhere?

Your iWeb Site is stored not on your iDisk, but on a file named Domain.sites in your ~/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ Folder.
If , for whatever reason, you wipe your HD and/or lose this file (Get a new computer, Re-Install your OS, Stolen Laptop, Crashed HD, Etc.) without backing-up your Domain.sites file then you will have to re-build your iWeb sites from scratch again.
Of course you can edit your Published HTML files in a different program such as Dreamweaver or even Text Edit. You just can't edit Published HTML files in iWeb. Not at this time at least.
Use iWebBackup to backup your Domain file to a Blank CD or DVD. Backing up your Domain file to another folder on your computer is not fully backing it up. If your computer gets stolen you still lost the file but if you have your Domain file burned onto a CD you have a backup!
    Download iWebBackup Here
You can use iWebExtender to automatically consolidate your files into one folder and delete multiple images.
