IWeb - Dreamweaver

Can someone please point me in the right direction so that i can find a step-by-step guide to importing a website I created using iWeb into Dreamweaver..
So far all attempts have failed as the site layout looks a mess when I try..
Many thanks for your help in advance..
The idea is that my colleagues can help maintain the website using Dreamweaver in their 'Windows PCs'
Cheers, B

You do not import a website.
You just open the webpage to edit the code. You can create a Site to manage the pages but how they look is another matter.
Any webpage looks crap in Dreamweaver in.
Why spend 600 euro/dollar when you can do the same for a 20th of that cost. Or even for free.
It's not an iWeb issue.

  • IWeb, Dreamweaver, CSS

    I'm sure this has been discussed, but I'll be darned if I can come up with the right search terms.
    Is there a way to integrate css files into iWeb through the use of the HTML widget?
    Is there a way to modify an iWeb page with Dreamweaver?
    How where can I find instructions for this, or even better, a simple "not possible" saves me time. .
    Thank you.

    Yes. In the HTML snippet, first place the CSS Style inside <style type="text/css"> </style> followed by the HTML
    for example:
    <style type="text/css">
    dl.newdl-def
    width: 35em;
    padding: 0;
    .newdl-def dt
    width: 6em;
    float: left;
    margin: 0 0 0 0;
    padding: .5em;
    .newdl-def dd
    float: left;
    width: 25em;
    margin: 0 0 0 0;
    padding: .5em;
    </style>
    <dl class="newdl-def">
    <dt>term
    <dd>definition text
    </dl>

  • Iweb + dreamweaver CS4 + dropdown menu not working on all pc's

    I created a dropdown-menu on CS4 DW, pasted it in html doc. and is part of my iWeb created site.
    Looks ok on apple: safari/firefox/iphone.. but on any pc does not matter which browser, it looks awfull, and the jumpmenu simply is not working.. what can I do to correct this?
    Thanks.

    By jumpmenu are you referring to the navbar at the top? It's well known that IE is not friendly with iWeb's navbar. The workaround for that is to create your own Text Based Navbar.
    As far as the drop down menu, is it java based or html based? I'm not familiar with what does an does not work with IE as I don't do windows so can't help you anymore there.

  • Using FLV files in iWeb

    Looking for help!
    I'm creating sites and using iWeb enhancer to embed swf. files into my site. I've had no trouble getting basic animations and a xml based player working. Check swampfoot.co.uk then go to media to see.
    What I'm struggling with is to get a flah video player to play a flv. file from a ulr. I can get the player to embed but it won't play the movie. Has anyone got any code I could adapt to get this to work?
    Any help would be greatly recieved.

    My solution may not be the most technical but it works. We use a combination of iWeb, dreamweaver and straight code on our site. We lay a graphic in where the flash is going to go then we replace the code with the flash player. You have to make sure the flash is in a div and is identified as a object.

  • Using FLV files with media playback components

    I can import an mpeg video to flash and export the movie as a
    .swf for use on the web. However, I'd like to learn how to use the
    components, and I must say the documentation is extremely
    confusing. Anyway, it appears I need a .flv file to use them. I
    have the flash video exporter, but I don't know how to use it. I
    tried opening the mpeg in quicktime, but it won't play (I don't
    have quicktime pro, if that's the problem). Can I use the flash
    video exporter in Windows Media Player? Why is this so difficult?
    Is there an easy way for me to put a nice little movie controller
    on my .swf movie? That's all I really want.
    thanks!

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

    Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
    I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
    I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
    So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

    Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
    ... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
    Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
    All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • IWeb site remade in Dreamweaver - cleaner code, faster loading?

    I love iWeb. But iWeb sites load slow ... and there is a LOT of messy code in there (my web experts and html whiz friends tell me this). I've tried optimizers, but found they often create odd and unpredictable glitches on individual pages. And only speed up the load process by 10%.
    I'm experimenting with designing the site in iWeb, then transferring all the materials\text\graphics into Dreamweaver ... to see if this gives me a faster loading site. I wonder if I'm wasting my time?
    And I'd love to know a way to have the iWeb sites load faster ...
    Ben

    I don't think you can pin it down to a percentage for each page. If you watch WSM as it optimizes your files you will see the saving for each file in the window - if you are quick!
    I publish my websites to Mobile Me to test them and then optimize and upload them to a commercial server. The difference in download time is noticeable.
    Where WSM really scores is when trying to get your website to load in IE - the World's Worst Browser.
    Pages that hang and lock up IE will usually load after optimizing.
    I have had the band of missing background occasionally. Usually I would just run the files again and mistakes are corrected - sometimes it takes two or three passes.
    After running the files again I launch the offending page in my browser directly from the WSM output folder (by double clicking the .html file) so that I can check it before uploading again.

  • Edit iweb site in Dreamweaver

    Has anyone tried to recreate an iweb site using Dreamweaver on a pc? Why would you do this? Just for the experience of learning Dreamweaver. The first hurdle is trying to find all the images which are scattered instead of located in one images subfolder.

    > but I cannot figure out how to open
    > the main page and start editing it.
    Read the instructions on the drupal site or elsewhere on how
    to modify or
    customize the "template" system they use.
    You cannot edit the actual pages of a drupal CMS in
    dreamweaver- it is all
    php and included files and database calls. The "pages" you
    see in the site
    don't exist anywhere, they are assembled on the fly by the
    drupal scripting.

  • I have been using DREAMWEAVER MX for almost ten years to keep a website up-to-date. Can I switch to iWeb now to do the job, and if so, how do I go about it?

    With MacOS 10.7 looming on the horizon, using veteran software DREAMWEAVER MX any longer does not seem to be such a good idea. I would like to use an editor that can cope with the new MacOS. Is iWeb that editor?
    Specifically, I need some clarity on these issues:
    Can I switch to iWeb now to  create and publish content in my old website for which I have been using DREAMWEAVER MX?
    Can I use the html layout I have been using in DREAMWEAVER, or do I have to steel myself for drastic changes?
    How do I import the complete website into iWeb – if at all?

    If you switch to iWeb you will have to build the site from scratch since iWeb can't read or import html files.  Also since  the future of iWeb is a little uncertain as to if it will be continued to be supported by Apple it might not be the best move at this time.
    You might look into upgrading to Dreamweaver for Mac.

  • Open iweb files in dreamweaver

    Hi! I have read so many forums about this topic. The solution everyone seems to have is to publish your iweb files to a folder and then open index.html through dreamweaver. I can open the file, however, it only displays a code and the file size is only 4kb. I know that my site is way larger than that, so I'm thinking i'm opening it incorrectly or something. So if anyone knows and could give me fool proof step by step "for dummies" directions, that would be awesome!!

    iWeb's index.html files don't have any content. Open the other .html files which you find in the sitename folder.

  • How to upload site created with Dreamweaver via FTP to the iWEB server?

    Hi everyone,
    I recently created a site on Dreamweaver and want to upload the site, via FTP to the iWEB server. My questions are the following:
    1. What is the FTP host address?
    2. How do I connect to my website via FTP?
    Any help on the following questions will be much appreciated.
    Thanks!

    Hello Lauretta and welcome to the forum.
    You do not connect to iDisk via FTP. iDisk uses WebDAV. Also you do not need to manually upload the published files to iDisk as recommended buy others in this thread. Once the site and server is set up in DW you can publish and upload directly through DW.app Check out this post for more info.

    Excellent suggestion! I regularly post in those forums too, so I thought I might offer help here, but http://forums.adobe.com/community/dreamweaver?view=discussions would be the best place for a Dreamweaver question.

  • Has anyone tried editing an iWeb site with Contribute or Dreamweaver?

    Before iWeb, I liked using Adobe Macromedia Contribute to edit the.Mac homepages. I've been giving iWeb a spin, and it seems to occupy the same place in Apple's stable as the rest of its siblings — a pre-pubescent version of Contribute, which is a subset of Dreamweaver.
    I haven't yet tried it, but it seems as if the iWeb templates would be a good starting point, and Contribute/Dreamweaver would be great tools to polish the site.
    I'm still confused, though, as to what the .Mac WebDAV URLs are...that's the thing that always tripped me up. Dreamweaver 8 is a better at site management, it seems, but if anyone could post a "definitive" guide on using a third-party tool, it would be much appreciated.

    yes you can use other websoftware to modify iweb sites either after it is on the webserver or if you save it to a folder before publishing.
    I tried the demo of Dream weaver and it worked fine..also I used Rapidweaver which works too. Heck you could use anything that can edit HTML which is really just a text file.
    The problem with iweb is it is using those stupid PNG files which are big and to make it worse it duplicates all your images rather than having them in a shared folder you can end up with dozens of the same image which when someone visits your site and changes pages it has to download the same image again!
    pretty crazy stuff.
    iweb looks nice and as long as people are viewing it with broadband you'd be ok but dialup users are "toast" even on a simple site.
    I got the demo of rapidweaver which is not as intuiative but in someways is more complete and have done a 3 page site.. others are developing themes for it and also there are plugins which add alot of functionality.
    at $35 USD it is cheap and if you go to http://www.screencastsonline.com there are 3 videos to show you how to use it and a discount code.
    I personally thing iweb is great but has some design flaws that will need to be delt with.

  • IWeb to Dreamweaver

    I agreed to host a website for a friend who's new to web design. She designed the site in iWeb. When she had trouble publishing it, I downloaded her site to my computer, then published it with Dreamweaver - and it blew up in my face.
    Actually, the site seems to work OK now that we've got the pages in the right location (in the public_html folder and NOT in the folder "MySite.com"). The problem is that all the images, JS and CSS files have lowercase names, but the links all began with capital letters. So I simply changed the links to lower case, and that fixed the problem.
    But I'd like to understand what's going on here. Is iWeb case insensitive, which means trouble when you publish it to a Linux server? Or is it possible that the code was somehow altered when I imported it into Dreamweaver?
    I forgot to mention that some of the files contain spaces that were filled with %20 in the code. I fixed them by replacing every instance of %20 with an underscore. Anyway, I wondered if anyone might be able to suggest what the overall problem is here. My guess is that iWeb is simply case insensitive and tolerant of %20, whereas Linux servers are more particular.
    Another question: Many of the images are surrounded by attractive white borders with scalloped images on my computer - but these borders don't appear online. Each image is contained by a div that looks like this:
    <div style="height: 300px; width: 225px;  height: 300px; left: 446px; position: absolute; top: 134px; width: 225px; z-index: 1; " class="tinyText style_SkipStroke_3 stroke_0">
    I discovered that the scalloped borders disappear if I delete this: class="tinyText style_SkipStroke_3 stroke_0"
    But I don't understand exactly what it is. I don't see any class named "tinyText," "style_SkipStroke_3" or "stroke_0" in the associated CSS files. This does look vaguely familiar to me, but I can't remember exactly what sort of technology/program/language this is.
    Anyway, can anyone suggest how these scalloped borders are generated and why they don't appear online?
    I have another, more complicated JS question that I'll ask in a separate thread.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    The %20 is caused by iWeb pages being imported into Dreamweaver as utf-8, but should not cause any problems in normal text just in links.
    The lack of border styles may be caused by missing javascript or image files, or that this style of border is css3 which is implemented in Safari and now in Firefox, (can be emulated using javascript), without seeing the code for the class I cannot help further although the fact it is being used in an absolute positioned element does point to it being javascript/image generated.
    The class may be in the javascript file not the css.
