IWeb File Saving Location?

I want to backup my iWeb files as I do most of my data. Trouble is I cant find where Apple stores my site files, it just magically happens. Anyone figure this out yet? Also, could these file(s) be stored on .mac itself allowing editing from multiple computers?

there is no
purpose of maintaining a copy (which grows very
quickly) in his or her hard disk, not to mention the
question of backing up correctly the data.
Can't understand why one should not be able to decide
"where" to save his/her work. The alternative to save
one's work to iDisk when he/she is finished seems to
me the best solution.
The Domain file contains all the data about your site. It is not really usable except by the iWeb program. Without it, you cannot edit and republish. If you lose it, you need to recreate your site from scratch. That is just the way the program works. You should use the feedback channel to tell Apple if you would prefer a different arrangement.
To avoid possible problems, one should always keep a recent backup copy of Domain somewhere, on your hard drive, iDisk, CD, flash drive or whatever.
Personally I don't think it would make sense to require iWeb to fetch Domain from an iDisk every time it opens, if that is what you are suggesting, since this would make it impossible to work on sites when not connected to broadband network.

  • File saving locations

A very frustrating feature of 10.8.2 is that there does not seem to be anyway to navigate to a folder that you haven't used in the last 4 or is in the left hand column of folders.
I have to save a file to the desktop or somewhere, then open finder and move it. That means if I want to open it with the "recent" file menu it is no longer in it's place.
What is the way around this apparent oversite?

The Finder and individual application save/save as windows offer four different filesystem views. Since you refer to the “left hand column of folders,” I believe you are using the columnar view. I use the left-most icon view as it remains a long-standing functionality habit.
Saving a file to the Desktop, and then moving it elsewhere, is not taking advantage of the application save/save as dialogs that allow you to navigate the filesystem and deposit the file at its exact intended location. If you use this principle, then the recent file menu will remain accurate.
I do not create labyrinthine folder hierarchies that make file placement difficult. That means that my Documents folder, by example, usually does not exceed two sub-folders deep. If you try to turn your filesystem into some nested sub-folder outline from hades, it will become unmanageable, and hinder your filesystem performance.
I suggest that the next time you happen to be at a book store with a Mac section, browse through some of the Mountain Lion books on using the Finder. Take your MacBook Pro with you, open the book, and practice. You will become more efficient without spending $50 for a book.

  • Default file saving location

I am in a school. We are using Win 7 and  Flash 5.1. When I open a new flash project, I get asked for the folder name, but am only allowed to put this in the default location. I need to place it on a student drive. Other drives do not show. Is there a fix for this pelase?
    Thanks

When you plug in your USB drive does Windows pop up a dialog asking you if you want to view the files on the USB drive?
The problem is with Flash 5.1, it's probably not updated to use Windows 7 save dialogs. The old save dialog has a drop-down approach. Look at the top of the save dialog for that drop-down which should contain a list of drives connected to the computer. One of them should be your USB drive. Do not try to save to C:\, that is the Win7 drive. You may have a D:\ for your DVD/CD drive. Look for something like F:\ or G:\ and look at the name of the device. Hopefully it says something like:
    E:\ (ST11292-USB)
You'll know that's probably the USB drive. Select that and view the files and folders it shows. Check to see if that is your USB drive and save in there where the teacher tells you.

  • How can i transfer iweb files from one computer to another?

    Hi,
Recently my harddrive crashed and i had to rebuild my computer. I retreived most of my files but i cannot find where my iweb files are located. Does anyone know where iweb saves files or how to retreive my domain files from the web (if at all possible)?
    Thanks

Unless you moved the Domain file, that's its default location. Make sure you're looking in the Library folder in your Home folder rather than Macintosh HD. See also THIS recent post.

  • Files saving

Hi, is there a way to deactivate the automatic file saving location to either documents, downloads or attachments? I want all my files to saved on the desktop, all the time?
    thank you!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Each web browser has its own preference page as to where to save documents. Please be more specific as to which browser you are having trouble with?
Attachments also are controled on e-mail programs preferences as well. So please be more specific as to which e-mail program you are using.
As a workaround, you can make it easier to navigate downloads, attachments and documents by opening a File menu -> Save As in most programs, or clicking the Save As button next to the attachment in many programs. Put your favorite folder in the Finder menu's left sidebar, and it will also appear in the Save As dialog. Once clicked you will instantly be able to save files there.

  • How to find where iWeb is saving the files?

    greetings.
i used iweb last year to make a couple web pages... i normally just edit html directly and don't use this kind of software... i cannot find where it is saving the pages i've updated... the location in ~/Site that has the files from last year do not appear to be updating when saving... the changes are getting saved somewhere because the changes are still there after quitting and restarting iweb... the standard way i use to find where a program is saving the file is to command+click on the title bar to see what path it is saving the file... that doesn't work in iweb...
i edit my files locally on my HD... then when everything is ok, i copy them up to our server... since i cannot find where iweb is saving the files, i can't copy them to the server... i really don't like software that gets in the way of just doing the work or hides everything... :-\
i did a quick search of the manual and this list and didn't find anything on this topic...
    thanks for any suggestions-
    jeffery
ps: also how does one get rid of that ANNOYING "try mobilme for free" splash screen when starting the program each time? it's enough to make me want to just delete everything and recode it by hand... certainly less annoying and possibly even faster... :-[ sorry for being so cranky-

There is absolutely nothing wrong with iWeb at all. You just need to learn how to use it and what it does and how it publishes that is all.
You just need to know that if you want to update, then you need the domain files and where they are stored and know that iWeb cannot import and that it creates html files on publishing and publishing to a folder will create these. If you wish to make alterations to these files, then you can easily do so with an html editor and then upload directly to your web server.
As with anything, if you learn what it does and how to use it effectively, you can make it work very well for you.

  • Does anyone know where the iWeb data files are located or what they are called?  I can't find them.  I looked in Finder for files named the same as my website, but found nothing.  Any help would be appreciated.

If you erased or replaced your hard drive since iWeb was cancelled, then they are gone. Otherwise, if you have maintained backups then check those.
Usually such files are in the /Home/Library/ folder or a sub-folder.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

  • Can't find my saved iWeb file

I can not find my saved iWeb files on my hard drive? I have searched every where. It opens fine in iWeb. What am I doing wrong?

It is there, but you have to remember to look in your Home User Library and not your System Library.
If you can't find it, then do a Spotlight search.
The fact that when you open iWeb your site is there means that it has to be somewhere.

  • Location of iWeb files - External Drive ?

    Dear members:
I would like to have my iWeb files residing in an external hard disk. How can I set up iWeb so that it stores its associated files in a external disk instead of my home directory ?
Thank you in advance for your help,
    Joseph Chamberlain

    Wyodor:
Thank you for the link. The information is very helpful and I have already moved the domain file as the article suggests. It works great.
Another issue that this article does not address is how to move the site location to an external drive. Although I had noticed that the domain information was kept in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb I have also noticed that the site files seem to kept in ~/Sites.
How can I move my sites and files to an external drive ? In case this is possible I would prefer to keep the different files in separate folders so that their associated files don't become mixed. Can I move the files to an external location ? Assuming this can be done is there a way to set this location in iWeb or should I replace the Sites folder with an Alias pointing to the external hard drive ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Joseph

  • Where are the iWeb file(s?) saved?

    Hi,
When I'm working on a site and then press cmd+S (File>Save), where are the iWeb file(s?) saved?
I'm looking for those files which I need to backup in case my harddisk would crash some day...
    Thanks!

They're in ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/, where ~ is the item in the Finder's sidebar with the house icon.

  • Location of IWeb File on Yosemite iOS

I am needing to locate my IWeb file to check size of it.  I looked in the library/application support folder, but there is no IWeb listed.
Is there another location where it might be hiding? I have ver 3.0.4 for IWeb.
    Thanks

You need to look in your user Library folder, not the system Library folder.
    Under the Go menu in the Finder at the top of your screen select 'Go to Folder'. Then enter this exactly in the window that appears;
    ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/
It will take you right to your domains.site file which contains all your website data that iWeb opens to build it.

  • Backing up/Exporting Saved Locations (.lmx files) ...

    Hi,
I have a Nokia 6700 classic phone with the basic version of OVI maps pre-installed. Over the last year or two I have built up a large amount of saved locations, which I understand are saved to the phone in the form of a .lmx file.
I am wondering how to back up/export these files incase I ever lose my phone, or if I want to send them to friends, or if in the future I ever want to buy a GPS and wish to convert these .lmx files into an appropriate format.
I have located possible solutions on the web:
    1)  /t5/Maps-Navigation-and-GPS/copy-nokia-lmx-file-from-phone-to-mapsource-on-pc/m-p/656802/highlight/t...
    2) http://abiteof.com/2010/09/14/nokia-maps-and-google-maps/
    3) http://www.trekkershut.co.in/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=8&id=5&Itemid=31
The problem with all of these is that they seem to refer to a more updated version of OVI maps and not the basic version which is pre-installed on the Nokia 6700 classic, e.g. there is no 'Landmarks' option anywhere on the phone. I can enter 'Maps' and then 'Saved Locations', but I cannot 'Mark All' as the solutions above suggest. I can send a single .lmx file from this 'Saved Locations' menu, but this is no use to me because of the sheer number of locations and the obvious expense of doing so.
I have also tried to access the .lmx files after connecting the phone via USB and searching via windows explorer but to no avail.
I have the lastest OVI suite software installed on my PC (3.1.1.90 but when I try to backup via 'Tools', 'Backup', I can only seem to backup images, videos etc. and not any Maps data.
Any help at all would be much appreciated!

to download the landmarks.LMX file to your PC, you can, in your nokia phone, go to location and double click then you will see landmarks, again double click-->opions-->mark/unmark-->mark all-->options-->send-->accept the suggested name-->ok-->viamessage-->select-->yes-->close-->save to drafts.
Thanks for you input here but unfortunately this feature no longer applies to devices running Nokia Anna or Belle useful as it was at times.

Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb/ as the path. The Sites package inside contains them; to view its contents, control-click it and choose Show Package Contents.

  • Lost iweb files, can I reload them ?

I lost all my iweb files from my hard drive. I did however have them stored on my web server and my web sites were thus unaffected. I have decided I want to update one of the sites. I have opened iweb but cant figure out how to get the previous saved web site up to edit. I have downloaded the exact same folder I had stored on my server to my desktop.
Is there a way to bring my old site up to edit ?

Paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
...Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb.
You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
