Iweb files in idisk?

I've been having trouble updating my iweb site directly from iWeb. I keep getting ".Mac configuration server can not be reached. Please try again later. "
I've tried all sorts of things suggested in the forum and other site. I noticed that my idisk/web/sites folder has:
index.html
iWeb (folder)
MyWebsite (folder) -- with all the files
sites.rss
Can I replace the MyWebsite folder with a new version published to my desktop as a work around?
Thanks!

  • Tranferring iweb files via idisk

i have produced a website in iweb on my mac at home and published it. I have uploaded these iweb files to idisc and now want to edit (and republish) the site on my mac at work. How do i import the web files into iweb on the other machine.

iWeb uses the "Domain" file, located in your Library > App Support > iWeb. You should be able to edit this site if you take a copy of the "Domain" file from your home machine and paste it in your Library > App Support > iWeb at work. Shame it isn't a simpler process... I'm looking forward to iWeb 2.0

  • Iweb files on idisk

How do I make sure my iWeb site is saved on my computer rather than on idisk?  It is hosted by go daddy.

If you are publishing your website to GoDaddy thenb the only item that you need to be concerned with is one named Domain.sites and that file is located in your your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
That file contains all of the items used to create and publish your website.  You should keep a cuurent backup of that file on an external volume, i.e. external HD, CD or flash drive at all times.

  • Orphaned iWeb files on iDisk, how to get them back?

    Hello,
I recently reformatted my hard drive and reinstalled iLife '06. I do have a little iWeb website I created before reformatting my hard drive and now it's orphaned on the server. I do not have a copy of the web site locally on my PowerBook. Is there a way to recover or synchronize the iWeb website files on the remote server locally?
Thank you in advance for any advice.
    1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 12   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

No, there is no way to import these already published files back into iWeb. As you probably know, if you did not have a chance to back up the "Domain" file, then you will no longer have the ability to edit or publish your site. That's what has led to your site files being orphaned. The most you can do is to leave your orphaned site online until you have a chance to rebuild and republish your site. In the meantime you can salvage whatever graphics/images that are on this orphaned site to use in recreating your site. Just load the site up in Safari and then start dragging things from the page to your desktop.

  • Rebuild iWeb from files on iDisk

Ok so I messed up and I forgot to back up my iWeb file when I formatted. I would really hate to rebuild everything again. Is it possible for iWeb to somehow read off the published site and rebuild it from that?

iWeb does not have an "import" function whereby your published HTML could be used to rebuild your site.
The best you could do is manually retrieve your site's "content" (images, text, mp3s, etc.) from your iDisk -- accessed via the Finder > Go > iDisk > My iDisk > Web > Sites > ...
You can also display your site in a web browser and drag & drop images from there to your Desktop. Also in Safari, for example, you can do View > View Source to see your text and perhaps copy & paste it.

  • How do I open an iWeb file with Texteditor?

How do I open an iWeb file with Texteditor? I want to embed a midi file but I don't see any of the iWeb files under my document folder. Where are they and how do I open them in Texteditor? Thanks!

first you have to publish the site. If you publish to idisk you can find the html files there and edit them there. If you publish to a folder find the file within that folder.
you can use textedit, but check the help files to make sure you configured it properly for html.
be aware you would have to edit the html file each time you republish the edited page.
    good luck

  • Unpublish iWeb site in iDisk

    Hi
I can see a number of old threads here regarding removing a site through iDisk and I have folowed these but still have a folder remaining (with content) that I cannot remove.
I have navivated to the iWeb/Sites folder but whenever I try to deleye the folder named _gallery I get a message saying I do not have the permissions to access some of the items
Can anyone help me to work my way round this please
    Thanks
    Patrick

    Ha
Thanks for the responses - I think I have it now.
It was not iPhoto - but Aperture, where I had previously published some photo galleries. I had already removed the galleries in Aperture but for some reason one of them still remained in the MobileMe gallery. I was able to delete this in MobileMe directly and the files in iDisk have now gone.
    Thanks for your help

  • Import previous iweb site from the internet? No old iweb files

My mac crashed and I lost all the information I had stored in it, including the iweb files of the blog I created using Iweb. Is there a way to import my iweb blog into a new Iweb in the mac I purchased? The iweb site I created is still up, so I am wondering if I can import the entries from my old iweb blog into my new mac/iweb using RSS or some other mechanism to capture the text and pictures in my old iweb blog and transfer them to my new mac. I also use idisk, so when I log in to mobile me I see links to my old iweb blog under if I click on Idisk and then go to "site". Any ideas about how I can import my old iweb blog from the internet?
The iweb version I have in my new mac is Iweb 3.0.3 (501)

Jorge ~ Welcome to the Support Communities. Apple says:
"iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.” (Source)
...If you don't have a backup of your Domain file (e.g. via Time Machine), paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • Moving iWeb to my iDisk so I can access it from two different machines

    Hi,
Wondering if anyone has any experience in updating iWeb from more than one Mac?
I've just migrated from my old MacBook (running Tiger) to my new MacBook Air (running Snow Leopard). The migration has of course brought over all my iWeb files as well. As my MacBook Air is for travelling, I would ideally like to leave most of the the management of my iWeb sites to my old compouter which will stay at home and continue as usual. However it would be also be convenient if I could alter the iWeb sites with my Air from time to time.
I've read that all the details and files for iWeb sites are stored in the "Domain" file in /Library/Application Support/iWeb/ , however I now have two Domain files, one on each computer, and I'm terrified to change anything using the new one in case I corrupt the websites...
Could I move one of these "Domain" files to my iDisk, so the iDisk version could be the "master". That way, when I want to alter something, I could connect to the iDisk using iWeb on whichever computer I'm using (if that is possible), and alter the details there on the iDisk so there are no conflicts.
It might be an issue that my old Macbook is running iWeb'08 and Tiger, and my new one is running iWeb '09 and Snow Leopard? If this would make it impossible then I'd delete all iWeb sites from the new MacBook Air except I'm afraid that might delete the websites from the server, as both computers are linked to the same MobileMe account!
I'd be very grateful for any advice, even if it's only how to safely delete the site from the new computer.
    Thanks,
    Sarah

Do you know though if it's possible as a concept to store the iWeb Domain file straight onto your iDisk and therefore modify the iDisk copy directly (as the master) every time you open iWeb on your mac?
Sarah ~ I've never tried that, but perhaps it's possible. Once you've transferred the Domain file to iDisk, double-clicking it there should open your site in iWeb. And iWeb should remember that location in future so that when you open iWeb (rather than the Domain file), it will open the Domain file that's on iDisk.
But even if that were to work, I think it's riskier than the normal case of working from the Domain file on your Mac. You'll still need to separately backup the Domain file on iDisk and, when you do a Save or Publish, iWeb will have to update the Domain file on iDisk — which will take more time than usual and perhaps cause iWeb to think there's a problem.
Perhaps others would differ, but I think it's best to have your "master" Domain file on your Mac and, after updating your site, copy the Domain to iDisk for backup. The Backup app in your Applications folder can be used to do this...
Once you've created a "Plan" in the Backup app, click on the Plan menu and choose Full Backup — which will add (rather than incrementally modify) a new copy of the Domain file to iDisk. And, as time passes, manually delete previous Domain file backups from iDisk that you no longer need. To confirm that the Backup app has copied your Domain file to iDisk, go here:
    http://www.me.com/idisk
...and click on the Backup folder in Home. To delete an unneeded backup from that folder, select the backup and then click the Trash icon.

  • IWeb saving in iDisk

I've been trying to add specific links on my website by changing the HTML text in the iDisk HTML file copy. I then "Save" after changes. When I double click on the newly saved file, it opens in a web browser (Safari) as I want it to look. However, the changes don't show up when I actually open the website.
    1. I've deleted my iDisk copy and then published to .Mac. New version does not show up on iDisk.
    2. After publishing, when I open my website, it has new version however (I need to find new version so I can change HTML text).
Where are the actual HTML files located that are seen on my website?
I'm new to this so detail is good. Thanks

I'll try and anwswer your questions as best as I can. Your questions are in bold type.
Why can't the specific links be done in iWeb itself? Please be more (no pun intended) specific.
A: This is not so much a link as html code with a link. Twitter to be specific. I've read suggestions from other posts and some websites suggesting I change the .HTML file in iDisk>Web>Sites>iWeb>Sitename using TextEdit.
Are you making the changes post publishing in iDisk? (copying the file from idisk, saving on desktop, making html changes, saving and replacing file with same name back into iDisk?
A: I've never copied iDisk file to desktop, changed, saved and replaced. I'll try that next. Here's my process: 1. I include a placeholder in iWeb where I want Twitter. Then I "Save" & "Publish to .Mac". 2. I go to iDisk>Web>Sites>iWeb>Sitename, open the page with TextEdit where Twitter place holder is, paste the html code from Twitter site and "Save". At this point I assume the newly saved .html file will be reflected on my website, not so.
Each time an iWeb site is re-published (updated) to dotMac, it replaces the "older" iWeb site and any changes to html files are also replaced with the updated iWeb.
I change the html code after each time I re-publish, hoping it will work, it never has.
Maybe my process order is not correct. I'll try your suggestion with the copy to desktop... and the link too.

  • Where do I find my iweb files on my computer?

    Help!
My 17" PB suffered a hard drive failure and I had to have it replaced. A local (independent) shop recovered some of my files and copied them to dvd's but I don't know where to look for my iweb files on the dvd's. I have visited the sites that I had posted and they are still up and running. I own and rent commercial buildings and from time to time they get tagged with graffiti. I use iweb to post the pictures and then advise the local police when I've updated the site.
Before the drive failed I had backed up some data using the Apple Backup (has the little orange umbrella as an icon) and I'm not sure if I managed to save the iweb files or not. I hesitate looking at my iDisk for fear that I'll delete what is there. Also, please let me know if I should send my hard drive to someone like Drive Savers to recover the data.
Thanks in advance for your help.

    form = from
Place the blank iWeb page and the webpage in the browserwindow next to each other.
Do not select everything but select parts of the text and drag the text to iWeb.
iWeb creates a textbox with the formatted text.
Resize and position the textbox on the canvas.

  • IWeb File Saving Location?

I want to backup my iWeb files as I do most of my data. Trouble is I cant find where Apple stores my site files, it just magically happens. Anyone figure this out yet? Also, could these file(s) be stored on .mac itself allowing editing from multiple computers?

    there is no
purpose of maintaining a copy (which grows very
quickly) in his or her hard disk, not to mention the
question of backing up correctly the data.
Can't understand why one should not be able to decide
"where" to save his/her work. The alternative to save
one's work to iDisk when he/she is finished seems to
    me the best solution.
The Domain file contains all the data about your site. It is not really usable except by the iWeb program. Without it, you cannot edit and republish. If you lose it, you need to recreate your site from scratch. That is just the way the program works. You should use the feedback channel to tell Apple if you would prefer a different arrangement.
To avoid possible problems, one should always keep a recent backup copy of Domain somewhere, on your hard drive, iDisk, CD, flash drive or whatever.
Personally I don't think it would make sense to require iWeb to fetch Domain from an iDisk every time it opens, if that is what you are suggesting, since this would make it impossible to work on sites when not connected to broadband network.

  • Iweb files on harddrive?

When I open the finder to look for my iweb page files, I can access the idisk, but only a shortcut (alias) to the actual files for my pages.
I can see the files there on the idisk, (a new finder window opens when I click on the short cut) but can't open them on my computer.
Should there be copies of the iweb files on my hard disk somewhere? Did I manage to delete a folder? (The websites are working fine, even when I update them.
Thank you for help in advance,
    r

The file you need to find is domain.sites. No good looking for html files and these are already published and iWeb cannot import these.
You need to look under your User Library rather than your system library and then Application Support/iWeb and then your domain.sites file should be there, unless you have accidentally deleted it or have moved it elsewhere for some reason?
Unfortunately, I think you already know the answer to the question if you can't find the domain.sites file? You will need to re-build your site from scratch as iWeb cannot import an already published site that is on your iDisk.

  • Are my iWeb files gone? Can I retreive them?

Are my iWeb files gone? Can I retreive them?
I had serveral files up on the server from as far back as my .mac account. Are they gone?

    brian miller1 wrote:
Read through the link you provided. iWeb was a no go for me. Also I had several items other than HTML files to recover (zips and the like). are they of use via iWeb proceedure you describe?
Nothing which was stored on your iDisk, including websites, Gallery pictures, or any sort of files, exists any more. I'm not sure what you mean by 'are they of use via iWeb proceedure you describe?' but in any event you cannot retrieve any of these files.
If you open iWeb does it open to your website or to a blank site? If the former you can upload this as descibed in my page. If the latter you will have to start over from scratch. If you are in the latter case I would recommend not starting anything with iWeb, but finding another program to make your site - one which is still supported. As I mention in my page, RapidWeaver is worth looking at.

  • Trying to restore previous iWeb files after hard drive was reformatted.

I had to have a clean install on my MacBook last week and had my iWeb files backed up but I'm having trouble figuring out how to import the files or restore iWeb to the way it was. Any thoughts? Or is it just another lack of support and thinking on Apple's part?

No. You just need to have backed up the right files.
iWeb stores info under User/Library/Application Support/domain.sites and it is this domain.sites file that you need to be able to alter anything in iWeb.
If you published your site to a local folder thinking that was a back up, then it is not, as iWeb has no import facility and is unable to open already published html files.
If you don't have your domain.sites file then you'll have to re-build your site again in iWeb.
