Iweb folder

Hi there
Last night I set up two separate site folders in iweb, one for me and one for my boyfriend. I saved his site to a folder on my computer for an external site & domain but want to adjust his pages on my computer for him. The problem came when I published-I thought I could publish only one of the sites and it did both! So in my haste I deleted it from iweb and republished as instructed on the help pages, so that his website was not on two different sites. I then thought I could open the folder that I had saved with his site in it, back into iweb so I could do some more work on his site. Problem is, I can't seem to do that, even though the pages were created with iweb software. Any ideas on how I can do it without having to start again? I now know that I should have published the files and locked his with a password! Gah, why is it you know these things when it goes wrong?

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). http://iweb.aardvarkland.com
If you are wanting to have separate sites - try domain splitting:

I cant locate the iweb folder inapplication support, I’m trying to find the domain file but I’ve haven't succeed.

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For opening your domain file in Lion for the first time or to switch between multiple domain files  Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
Just launch the applicaiton, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1

  • I can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

i can't find where iweb saves files. i have no iweb folder in my library applications. any ideas?

Yes you do - it is found under your User Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
It is the domain.sites folder that you want and the iWeb folder is NOT in your System Library, but rather your User Library - that's the one with the house.
Depending on what OS you are using - from Lion upwards, your User Library is invisible, so to make it visible, go to the Go menu and hold down the 'alt' key at the same time and your Library will show - then go to Application Support and the iWeb folder is there with your domain.sites file in it.  Double click on this file to open it and iWeb will.

Leave the old domain file in the iWeb folder and use the following app to see if it will let you open that particular domain file.
To open your domain file in Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

    delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.

Due to Sandboxing by the operating system you may get a message that the app can't be opened because it's from an unregistered developer. In that case you can Control (right) - click on the app and select Open from the contextual menu OR create your own app from the code above using Applescript Editor.

  • Were is the correct place for web content public_html or iWeb Folder?

Apologise but this is a bit of a long problem description.
I have been using iWeb for about 9 months to create web sites, i have no html training so the iweb approach suits me fine, when you create an iweb site it automatically creates a folder, using the Site name, in public_html all web content is placed inside this folder. and as i understand it the index_html file in public_html redirects access to the home page within the site name folder.
This has been working fine for me for some time until about 2 days ago, when my Google Webmaster tools account showed totally wrong set of Keywords for the site. I have been using iWebSEO Tools to manage the keywords etc.....
The new set of key words have come from the index_html page at public_html and according to feedback from the Google Webmaster Forum they say placing web content inside a folder in public_html is not a good idea.
If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
    Thanks
    John

If this is correct how do i force iWeb not to create the Site name folder?
You don't force iWeb. To command iWeb you have to obey it. The Ancients already knew that.
Here's my solution : [Avoiding the iWeb Sitename in the URL|http://www.wyodor.net/blog/archives/2010/01/entry_299.html]
The pages are relocated but the concept still works.

  • Where can i found my Domain of iWeb in the new OS X Lion? Also i can't find the iWeb folder in the Library/Application Support. Help Please

I want to copy my Domain of iWeb to work in another computer, but since the new OS X Lion, i can´t found it in Library/Application Support/iWeb like in Snow Leopard.
    Help please!
    Thank you!!!

Can you get to the Library folder via the Go menu?
Or download and run  Find Any File  to search for the library with the following settings:
That will give you the following results:
Are you using a different Terminal front end than the default one for the Terminal applicaiton?  I'm asking because of the "clicked on RUN" statement.  I get no RUN item in my Terminal application.

  • Transferring iWeb folder to other computer

Is it possible to make an iWeb site, then publish it to a folder on my HD, then copy and burn that to cd and give it to someone who will publish it on his own site? Will that work?

    Yes.
They will not be able to use iWeb to make any edits or new pages, however.
With the correct permissions you could upload to their Site from your machine.

  • IWEB Folder Problems

Okay.. So I published one of my websites to a folder and have been looking at them in internet explorer. Nothing is clickable and some things are overlapping-however when I published to the web it was clickable and nothing over lapped. Why is it doing this?
Someone I work with is putting the files into dreamweaver to fuss with the HTML code and he keeps asking me why he can't click anything or see the navigation bar etc in the folders previews. (or whatever they are called)
    thanks

Have you tried using a different browser to view the site locally and what platform are you on when trying IE? Macs have software built in so they can be viewed locally while PCs, well need I say more.

  • IWeb Folder/Filename Interfering with FTP Upload?

First -- thanks to each of you who haunt this Forum and help us all out!!
I am trying to upload my website which is currently on a .mac server AND published to a folder on my HD. I am using Cyberduck. I need to be uploading to the public_html folder but that does not come up once logged in to my server. All I see is Incoming. I have set the path as /. When it does try to upload, I see that the URL changes to include my Folder Name: WebsiteRH-107 and then even includes the file Site9.
Clearly, this is not working or I wouldn't be screeching <g> and now coming to you folks for help.
    Ideas???
    Thanks again.
    ~linda

Tom, Thanks for trying to help.
    1) I did include the two items. Goes like this, Folder: WebsiteRH107, then files are index.html then a folder beside it Site9. Now, within Site9, there is an index.html and a home folder with files in it.
    2) My current URL on .mac is http://web.mac.com/mendinfences
The one I'd like to publish is www.ridinhigh.org
    3) I will try adding the additional info on that / path.
Thank you again and .......... don't leave me! ;-0

  • IWeb folder location

Where does iWeb store the site before it is published to .Mac? I have an old site which I've downloaded from iDisk and saved to HD. Now I want to import it into iWeb and have it appear in the left hand column. Any ideas?

You cannot import the HTML from a published iWeb site back into iWeb. iWeb needs your site's Domain file which is usually located here:
    User > Library > Application Support > iWeb > ...
...If you can find that Domain file then double-clicking it will cause iWeb to open it and your pages will appear in iWeb's left hand column.
If you no longer have the Domain file, you could try to manually reconstruct your site by copying & pasting your content from your iDisk's folders or from your web-browser's window into a new iWeb page.

  • How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?

How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb?
    Hi
I've set up my website using iWeb 08, always keeping the latest version in iWeb and backing it up in a folder on my HD.
Yesterday I got rid of the current design iWeb and tried to upload the back-up folder into the iWeb application. No success.
How can I upload the back-up folder into iWeb? Many thanks for your help.

Welcome to the discussions. Only iWeb's Domain file can be opened in iWeb. See this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.
Presumably you've been prudently making backups of your Mac's internal HD, so search there for the Domain file's invisible extension:
    .sites2
If you can't find your old Domain file, paragraph 2.3 of this FAQ page gives some tips on how to use published files, graphics, photos, etc., to help rebuild the site from scratch:

  • How do you get iWeb to look at a different folder?

I have two versions of my site (one slightly more updated than the other) on my hd, and want to point iweb to the newer one. I know how to point iweb to where it will be pulishing TO, as in godaddy, or my dropbox or whatever. But how do I change the folder it is publishing FROM, the folder that holds the site materials.
    thanks!
