IWeb Forgets FTP Publishing

I publish my site via FTP. I do it and then save the file, it shows me that everything has been published(all blue). The next time I open it, it shows me that none of it is published(all red). Why is it doing this and how can I fix it?

I'm not sure if CyberDuck can upload only those changed files but Web Site Maestro can. If you publish a folder on the HD and let WSM optimize the files the second time you publish the changes to the same folder WSM can determine, by file size, those new sites and will upload only those files. I use it for multiple sites hosted on MobileMe and it will work for any hosting service.
Check out CyberDuck as I think I read where it can determine changed/new files.

  • FTP publishing on iWeb to replace existing site - files not appearing.

On iWeb, I used FTP publishing to replace my existing site files, then deleted the original files but not only has the new site files not appeared in my public html folder but I get the message:The requested URL /www.geofflevitus.com was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Founderror was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

but I get the message:The requested URL /www.geofflevitus.com was not found on this server.
That's an indication that the index.html file that is created alongside the site folder by iWeb is missing.
Try publishing your site to a folder on your hard driive and use a 3rd part ftp client like the free  Cyberduck to upload the site folder and the index.html file.
Cyberduck or Transmit will let you view your server folder in a Finder like window where you can see which files are missing.

  • Trouble with iweb SEO tool publishing to FTP address

Trying to publish using SEO tool to my FTP address and nothing happens in the status bar. I selected the folder to upload and choose the right server folder but no go. Any suggestions. Do I need to go on my host and clear out the publishing folder first? Also, do people recommend iWeb SEO tool over iMAP? I know SEO is free so I am trying that first. I use I tweak to add in google analytics so not sure how that works with SEO tool? Do I need to run iTweak and then iWeb SEO then publish? Thanks again.

I just tested it with a section of a website and it uploaded fine. Its going to depend on the size of your site files.
Are you using the latest V 1.3?
It's the first time I've tested the built in FTP as I usually add the meta stuff and then optimize before uploading. It doesn't seem to take any longer than the other FTP applications I use.

  • FTP publishing settings Website URL

This may be a very obvious answer, but in the FTP publishing setting>Website URL field, what are the correct settings. For my "domainname.com", I'm putting the address in that field as "http://www.domainname.com" (no quotes) Is that the correct address to use. iWeb Help Menu says to put your website address in that field. So I assume that you include the "http://www." Is that correct?

    Alancito,
I keep forgetting about the video tutorials. They're awesome. Yes that did answer my question. The whole FTP thing seems temperamental and buggy, but I'm sure most of it is me. In iWeb, sometimes it publishes via FTP, no problems and other times I get server error messages. Using Rage Sitemap Automator, half the time it won't connect and if I upload the sitemap via Cyberduck, using the same FTP settings, no problem. But those are all separate issues and you answered my initial question. Thanks

  • Trouble uploading website using iWeb 09 FTP

    Hello All,
About 2 years ago I used iWeb to upload my website. At the time I had to use Website Maestro for the FTP. Recently I bought a new iMac and used iWeb 09 to change several things on my website.
I viewed all the videos on how to upload your site using the iWeb FTP and I even used the "test connection" button and it said it was great. So I went ahead and uploaded my site and iWeb 09 confirmed that everything was fine, but it didn't change my website. The old pages were still there.
I phoned my web hosting company (Host Papa) and they said iWeb 09 uploads the new pages to a folder in their cpanel and that I would have to log in to the cpanel and move folders around. I tried this but inside Host Papa's cpanel it was all greek to me. I phoned their help line and the guy switched all the files for me and the new pages published fine.
My question is why can't iWeb publish my site without me having to log into their cpanel to change folders around? I noticed on the iWeb 09 publish site I had filled in one bit of information incorrectly. Where it said "Directory/Path" I typed in www/ Their help desk said I should have typed in /public_html/ If I did this would this make a difference? Would it publish directly without me having to go into their cpanel?
    Thanks for your help.
    Mike

The old pages were still there.
Did you try clearing your browser's cache (CommandOptionE for Safari) and reloading the page? The site and index.html file probably should be uploaded to the public_html folder in your account.
I use WebSite Maestro and find it to be very good for uploading. You might try going back to that especially since iWeb's ftp client is posing problems. I would either try WSM or the free Cyberduck client.

  • Problem getting iWeb 09 to publish without creating its own directory insid

*I made a website using iWeb 09 and I am very new to the whole MAC experience, so obviously I have no idea what I am doing.*
*Anyway--I am hosting my website on bravenet.*
*When I go into my server settings to enter the FTP settings, everything goes through fine, but when I publish and go to my website (www.hotgymdiva.com), it says there has been no index.html file uploaded.*
*If I type in www.hotgymdiva.com/www.hotgymdiva.com, it will take me to the website with no problem at all.*
*Can someone please tell he how I can just type my url once and get to the site?*
    *THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!*
NOTE: I have just started on the website, so please don't laugh at my mess.....I am learning during the process. Hopefully, it will be looking BEAUTIFUL by the time it's all said and done....ha haaa

when I publish and go to my website (www.hotgymdiva.com), it says there has been no index.html file uploaded.*
If I click on the url below, it seems to work just fine:
    http://www.hotgymdiva.com
If you want to avoid the duplication in the browser address bar, don't name your site inside iWeb the same as your domain name. Instead call it "site" or "s" or whatever,
Complete iWeb sites always show the site name in the browser address bar. iWeb's ftp does not have an option to upload incomplete sites. If you want to get rid of the site name, you must manually change the site structure either before or after uploading. If you do that, any RSS subscribe links will not work. Another option is to forward www.domain.com to www.domain.com/sitename, if your host allows that.

  • In iweb changes not publishing

Since changing from mobileme server to ftp server, changes to website made in iweb do not publish?

If you are uploading your website files using the iWeb FTP, any old, existing files should get overwritten automatically. Try switching to another browser like Google Chrome or Firefox to view your site.
To find the file manager you need to login to your hosting account.
You can use the freeware Cyberduck to upload files and manage files on the server but it doesn't allow you to view the files on your Mac in the same window as the ones on the server...

  • FTP Publishing currently failing

Some months back I created a website for a friend who wanted a new site for his business. His site was already with Mr. Site who supported FTP publishing, so I created his new site and transferred it to his new one, effectively replacing it. Great! Worked like a dream! By all means take a look!
    http://www.nickmarshallmake-up.com
About two weeks ago I attempted to update the new site and the update has failed. When publishing the site, iWeb "Prepares the Files for Publishing" and always crashes on the last page (no matter what the last page is, as I rearranged them to test it out). iWeb didn't even get to the stage where it uploaded anything to the website. I looked at the website online and noticed that there are now some media crashes present (music shortened and artwork is suddenly missing and cropped) and I'm enraged that I cannot actually effect any changes.
I can publish the site to a local folder with no problem whatsoever, but iWeb ALWAYS crashes when preparing files for publishing via the FTP protocols!
    Help please?

This doesn't help you but I am experiencing exactly the same issue, using FTP publishing.

  • IWeb refuses to publish my latest blog entry

I have ftp'ed into the server and deleted the whole thing. I re-published the whole site and the most recent blog entry just isn't there. In iWeb it is fine, I can get to it, it shows up in the archive, it is actually uploaded to the server, there are just no links to it anywhere on the site.
    Help.

have a problem that apple support has just not been able to solve:( produced and published a website and hosting it through iweb. recently, any changes made in iweb will not publish - i tested a page in a new site and it published perfectly. am beginning to think there is something corrupt in my original site. i have backed up the domain to a portable drive - without rebuilding the bloody site, will it work if i delete the published site (which clearly has an error) and republish my latest version of the site? thanks in advance,

  • Pleased with upgrade even just for single site FTP publishing

I liked iWeb 08 a lot, but found the publishing of EVERYTHING really cumbersome. So I decided to take a chance and upgrade to iWeb 09 and it seems perfect for the sorts of things I am doing now. I love the fact that I can select one site and then have it FTP publish to just the directory I want at my hostgator ISP (I don't use Mobile Me).
It seems to work just fine, and is a great time saver of the way publishing was done in iWeb 08. Just this feature was worth the upgrade to me.
    doug

I'm thinking about this as well. My work-around for iWeb'08 was to create a copy of my original .sites2 file with all the sites, rename the file to xxx.sites2, open it and delete all but 1 site in iWeb. Repeat with all the sites, and then you have a bunch of files each with only 1 site. Create an alias for each file and you have more or less the same thing.

  • 2 Things: Safari Bookmarking + FTP Publishing

Sounds like a stupid question but does anyone know how to
bookmark a specific topic using safari when using a Flash skin??
I'm 85% sure this cannot be done.
Also, is anyone else experience slow ftp publishing times?
I'm publishing to a win2003 via ftp and it take 2 minutes to
publish. Is there some way to tweek server 2003 to speed this up?
Any alternative ftp solutions? I'll have to revert to publishing
via a shared network if I don't get this solved.
    I'm using rh6.

    1. It wont allow me to upload the movie clip that i
have made - in .mov format.
It says that the name is not allowed - so i have
tried renaming it to all sorts of things and nothing
works - it says forbidden. Does anyone have any idea
    what this means?
Many servers do not accept names with spaces in them, and some might require lower-case letters and no special characters.
    2. I have made 2 pages that should have RSS feeds.
There are XML pages uploaded to the server, but when
you try to subscribe on the site it says that it kind
find any RSS information on the server.
You broke the site structure created by iWeb by failing to upload the folder with the same name as your site has inside iWeb, namely the folder called Northstars. Instead you uploaded the contents of this folder. Always upload that folder plus the index.html file published alongside it.

  • Iweb to Ipage publishing - new question

Hi!  I've read all the other posts about publishing directly from iweb9 to ipage.  I'm am able to connect and my iweb folder (called lemons) uploads to /  .  I can verify this with cyberduck (which I don't want to use for publishing).  But when I go to my site, it is not directly opening up my "welcome" page.  I get a blank page.  www.katlemons.com.
I think it has something to do with my index.htm file or the directory that I'm in, but I can't fiigure it out.  There is no public_html folder for ipage.  It's just the / directory.   I've tried several different settings for the FTP publishing in iweb.  I've tried both katlemons.com and ftp.katlemons.com for the server address.  Same thing happens for both (as described above).  I've tried putting / in the path and also leaving it blank.  Again same thing happens.
This website http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/Publish-Website.html says that an index file and the iweb folder should both upload when you publish.  That is true.  There is an index.htm file there in the /  directory, but it's not direc
Can anyone give me any guidance on this?
Boy do I miss mobile me!

You may want to try Publishing your "Entire site" to see if that fixes your index file.

  • How do I use iweb 08 to publish to "just host"

how do I use iweb 08 to publish to "just host"

See this page for info about using FTP...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/Search-Engine-Optimization/Upload.html
Make sure you upload both the folder produced by iWeb and the external index.html file to the root folder on the server.
If you are not sure about which folder is the root, ask you hosting services tech support.
If you have a domain name, contact your registrar to get it to point to the location of your files.

  • IWeb integrated ftp won't connect. Settings confirmed via standard ftp client

I am nable to ftp via the iWeb integrated ftp interface. I have tested the settings via a standard ftp client without issue.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks! Joe

iWeb is kind of unusual in that it publishes a folder containing the website files and an external index.html that opens the home page. There's also a copy of this index.html file inside the folder.
This arrangement is to suit publishing to the Apple server - MobileMe - and is kind of illogical when publishing else where.
Uploading using the iWeb built in FTP means that the URL has the folder name in the path...
    http://www.domain-name.com/Site-Name/Page-Name.html
To avoid this, the site needs to be published to a local folder using the second method on the page I referred to above and the files inside the folder uploaded to the root on the server....

  • Ftp/publish all/.mac

I've learnt through reading old posts that selecting 'publish all' is the solution to having the website appear in all browsers as I am having trouble with this. However, I have discovered that it's actually 'publish all to .mac' If I don't have a .mac account do I just not bother having a website built in iweb? I thought I didn't have to have a .mac account, is this true?????

From your file structure, it would appear that you have not followed completely what the tutorials would tell you to do.
It would appear that you have uploaded the contents rather than the whole site folder and separate index file created by iWeb when you publish to a folder?
As Roddy suggested, try downloading Cyberduck which is a free ftp program and then try uploading both your Site folder and the separate index file that iWeb produces. This will ensure that everything is uploaded correctly - your feed and scripts files and also the RSS feed will work if you do it in this manner. By doing it the other way, it could be that not all your files have uploaded properly.
Try it this way using Cyberduck instead, but also remember to name your site something like Site or S in iWeb so you don't get the double domain name that some complain about here.
