IWeb Freezing Up

I published my website successfully about two weeks ago and haven't touched it since. I went in tonight to add a photo gallery to the photo page and a blog entry on the blog page, and every time I click "publish" it freezes up and I have to force quit. I've tried publishing each new piece individually, and I've tried publishing it all at once, but to no avail. I'm about to have a freakin' breakdown ... HELP!

Quit iWeb.
Delete the preference file Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist.
Restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.

I have used iWeb before without any problems, but whenever I try to add media in the pages, iweb freezes. Normally, I have to force restart my computer. Any ideas?

  • IWeb freezes upon opening

The moment I open iWeb and try to click anywhere the application stops responding. (It never really started responding.) I can do nothing at all. I have to force quit to get out of the program. Anyone else experiencing this or have any ideas how to fix? I am trying not to loose all my data. I have tried to reinstall - upgrade - but it had no effect and I am running the latest version.

    CozmicGal:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When does iWeb freeze, when you first launch it or when you try to access a template? If its the latter then there may be damage to the template.
    Try the following:
1 - move your Domain.sites files to the Desktop.
2 - launch iWeb and see if you can get it open and start a new site.
If that works then your original Domain.sites file may be damaged. If it is I don't think you can recover it, but am not positive on that.
If the new file still doesn't work, move your original file back into the User/Preferences/Application Support/iWeb folder, replacing the new one, and boot into Safe Mode. Try iWeb again.

  • IWeb freezing issues

I have iWeb '08 and Leopard and every so often, at completely random times, iWeb freezes. I cannot even Force Quit, my computer is completely locked. I have to hold down the power button. I have all of the latest updates. Any ideas as to the cause and possibly a solution?
I just performed the Repair Permissions on Macintosh HD and got the following results:
ACL found but not expected on "Applications/Utilities".
ACL found but not expected on "Applications".
ACL found but not expected on "Library".
I do not know if there is any significance to that or if it relates to my problem.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

If the username on the .Mac account that the site was published to is used in the url, and the site is on the iDisk for this same user account, then the short url http://web.mac.com/username will go to the site.
If by any chance you are publishing multiple sites to .Mac, then the short url will direct to the site that is at the top of the list of sites in the site organizer as seen in the iWeb application. If this is the case, and you are trying to access a site which is not at the top of the list, then you must use this url:
http://web.mac.com/username/iWeb/Nameofsite (as it appears exactly in the site organizer in iWeb).

  • IWeb freezing up for no good reason

I've been using iWeb for quite a while and I really love it. I have two domain files, one for one site and one for another. I double-click the one I want to work on and everything works great.
    ...up till very recently.
Now when I double click the domain file iWeb loads, my site is there, everything looks great and I have about 30 seconds to a minute to do whatever I want to the site (add pages, write text, place images, whatever) and then iWeb just stops responding. I can't get to do anything after about 30 sec. or a minute. I end up clicking the icon on the dock and selecting "Force Quit". If I manage to save before it locks up my edits are there ... if not, of course they are not there.
This is driving me crazy ... and I'm no Mac newby, I write for O'Reilly Media's Digital Media blog and thier Inside Aperture blog ... so you'd think I could figure this one out, but I am stumped.
    Anyone have any ideas?
I'm on a MacPro with all the bells and whistles ... All other programs run fine. I'm totally without a clue on this one.
    Thanks,
    Allen

I'm also having a problem with iWeb freezing. I have one site with 8 pages published. When I tried to add a 9th page with 99 photos (which is the limit per page with iWeb) the program freezes when I go to publish the page. It happens every time. I then have to force quit and try again. And when I do, it freezes again.
    Any ideas?

  • IWeb freezes whole computer.

Lately, everytime I work on iWeb (2.0.3) it freezes the whole computer and there is nothing I can do but restart it. I have worked on different sites and the problem occures while working on any. Anyone's an idea on this?

    Hi,
I'm not sure this is the solution to your problem but it may be a problem with permissions...
    Try repairing disk permissions:
    1. Go to Applications/Utilities
    2. Open Disk Utility
    3. Click Macintosh HD
    4. Click on Verify Disk Permissions
    5. Click Repair Disk Permissions.

When I try to apply the code to a snippet it just freezes iWeb. I don't know enough about snippets but the code doesn't look like any I've seen discussed here before, an applet. It might not be supported by iWeb's HTML snippet. But others like Cyclosaurus or Ethmoid may have a better understanding of it and can help you.

  • IWeb Freezes Every Time

I just recently bought the iLife (iDead?) software and was just using .mac's homepage before, which worked nicely. Now i can't even get iWeb to open properly, much less publish. It opens, then freezes after about 30 seconds. I've got the 1.1.1 update, so I have no idea what the issue is although there seems to be lots of complaints.
Is there any way to publish the old way through Homepage? Or an iWeb fix-it solutions?
    Thanks. Terry.

    Terry,
    1. try to repair permissions on your system.
    2. unplug ALL you USB devices.

  • IWeb freezes on start up

I'm using Leopard - that may be the problem. It was working just fine yesterday, and I did my first successful blog post. Now, when I go in to start up the program the beach ball just spins and spins and spins...I let it spin for a long time (like 15 mins) and the page finally opened up - but then it just spun some more. Still frozen. The page is simple, no graphics so that's not the problem. And I've tried deleting the prefs.
Any help would be a life saver...

Ok - so it turns out that it was freezing up because I wasn't connected to the internet. Apparently iWeb didn't like the fact that i was trying to work offline. I'm out of town (at CES) and so access to broadband is limited. As soon as I jacked in, iWeb snapped into position ready to work.
    Go figure....
    Thx for your help though...

  • IWeb freezing

I'm new to Macs, so i'm not quite sure how to solve this. After i create a section with photo albums and add a effect to the album cover, everything freezes and literally nothing helps! That stupid beach ball keeps on spinning and force quit won't respond so i have to shut down the computer manually. Any ideas?

I have 73 gigs on my hard-drive free, and none of the other apps was open at the time. I'll try what you suggested and I'll let you know if it works. Thanks, Apple should redirect thieir phone support here! happy holidays btw

  • IWeb Freezes Every Time it is Launched.

I recently got a .Mac account and I've been using iWeb to publish a website to my .Mac domain. Just this evening, however, when I launched iWeb to make some changes, it froze after only about a minute, and I had to Force Quit it.
I tried launching it a few more times both trying to edit things and just leaving it alone, and the same thing kept happening. I tried reverting to an older Domain.sites2 file (using Time Machine) as well as trashing the preference files, but nothing changed. Here is the Console output in system.log:

Thanks in advance for your help.

Try deleting the .plist again and dragging the domain file out of Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and into the trash.
Restart your mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Restart iWeb and allow it to create a new domain file. If the application works as normal then the problem is probably due to your domain file being corrupt.
The restart will clear out redundant files and it might be worth dragging you new domain file out of Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb, storing this in an empty folder and dragging the original file out of the trash into Home Folder/Library/Application Support/iWeb and double clicking it to see if iWeb will launch.
If not, delete the plist and start afresh with you new domain file.
Its a good idea to save regularly when working in iWeb and to refresh your domain file backup before you close the application.

  • IWeb Freezes at opening page

I am an apple noob. I just bought my first mac last night, and so far I love it. I am having trouble with iWeb though. When I open the program, I am asked to select a template for my web page, and I can select nothing, then I get a color wheel cursor, and I am forced to "force quit" the app... Can anyone help, or does anyone know what is going on?
    Many thanks!
    Cheers

Nevermind... In order to gain access to the program, one needs to sign into .mac on their system in the system preferences folder...
These things really are easy to figure out. I love this thing!!!

  • IWeb not publishing update- just asking to log into facebook and freezing... Help, please!

When I "Publish site changes" on iweb, a facebook login pops up, and regardless of whether I sign in or not, nothing happens and iWeb freezes.  the updates never publish, and I don't have the option to try it again. If I quit (sometimes have to force quit) iweb, it says "quitting while your site is publishing can cause problems", but I have left it open for hours, and nothing ever happens.
    Please help!

    Heidi,
Go ahead and force-quite iWeb, it shouldn't hurt the website file. However, just to be safe, open ~User/Library/Application Support/iWeb, and copy (not move) the Domain.sites2 file in there to your home folder before force-quitting.
For some reason, the "Update my Facebook" feature in iWeb causes it to freeze. To fix this, simply untic the Facebook box in the website publishing settings page. Then it will publish correctly.

  • Clicking "i" for Inspector freezes iWeb

I'm not sure what the problem is but if I click the Inspector button or launch through the file bar iWeb freezes and has to be forced quit. I am on a PowerBook G4 and just upgraded to iLife '06. Running Tiger 10.4.8

    Nick:
Try moving the preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, to the desktop and relaunch. See if that will help.
    Do you Twango?

  • IWeb error messages -- can't publish large site after upgrade.

I just upgraded to iLife 09 and all of my websites showed up red in the new iWeb - indicating that they needed to be published. I hadn't changed any of them since the upgrade but I figured it was part of the upgrade to republish all of them.
Whenever I try to publish the sites I get the following message:
An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/pM/pMWBd0yEF04cfDIeAZkuPE+TI/TemporaryItems/com.apple.iWeb7281_TEMP_288612390_15/sites/JW/Things_and_Such_files/shapeimage2.png”. Try publishing again later.
I've tried all the usual suggestions. I threw away the preferences files and cache files for iWeb. I logged out of MobileMe and logged back in. I tried to publish from an older version of my Domain file from Time Machine. If I tell it to publish the site to my desktop then it works just fine. The site that it has problems with creates a 179MB folder on my desktop when I publish to my desktop. The other two sites that I have in iWeb publish perfectly in MobileMe but are not bigger than 3 MB each.
I tried moving parts of the larger site out of it, publishing the significantly shrunken page and then adding the rest back in smaller pieces. It will publish the smaller selection with no problem. It won't let me add the pieces back in, however. IWeb freezes up when I try and I have to reload the previous Domain file from Time Machine.
So, my question is: Is there a limit to the size of site that can be published using iWeb? If so how do I get around this?

    Reboot fixed it.
