Iweb hates me! Can't publish at all to Godaddy

I have a username, password, domain name, and hosting account through godaddy. All I want is to publish my iWeb site to my registered domain name. All I get are error messages that a connection could not be determined to my domain. I have changed my username, password and still nothing. I have typed in my server address and it didnt work, I tried my domain name and it didn't work.

Make sure you set up a Name & Password inside your go daddy account for your FTP this is different than the sign in name and password you use to enter into go daddys web site.
set up FTP login & password inside your go daddy account see domain manager in go daddy and let it activate may take up to 24 hours,
then use your NEW FTP login password that you will have created, to connect.
*I have my iweb *SITE PUBLISH SETTINGS* like this
*PUBLISH to*: FTP SERVER
*Server address*: "I have NO FTP or http or www before name."
just the name mywebsite.com
*Site name:* the site name auto fills..
*User name:* my go daddy *FTP user name* sign in........... NOT my go daddy site login number or name(see above)
Password: my go daddy *FTP sign in* password ....... Not my go daddy site login password (see above)
Directory: path NOTHING leave empty.
Protocol: FTP .......... PORT 21
*In URL* start with http://www. and then your name....so it should read
http://www.mysite.com
this is how I have mine set and it publishes fine to go daddy but it did used to get the message you got and next time I tried it worked, try update your software click apple sign on computer and download the new updates if any.
hope it helps

  • IWeb error messages -- can't publish large site after upgrade.

I just upgraded to iLife 09 and all of my websites showed up red in the new iWeb - indicating that they needed to be published. I hadn't changed any of them since the upgrade but I figured it was part of the upgrade to republish all of them.
Whenever I try to publish the sites I get the following message:
An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/pM/pMWBd0yEF04cfDIeAZkuPE+TI/TemporaryItems/com.apple.iWeb7281_TEMP_288612390_15/sites/JW/Things_and_Such_files/shapeimage2.png”. Try publishing again later.
I've tried all the usual suggestions. I threw away the preferences files and cache files for iWeb. I logged out of MobileMe and logged back in. I tried to publish from an older version of my Domain file from Time Machine. If I tell it to publish the site to my desktop then it works just fine. The site that it has problems with creates a 179MB folder on my desktop when I publish to my desktop. The other two sites that I have in iWeb publish perfectly in MobileMe but are not bigger than 3 MB each.
I tried moving parts of the larger site out of it, publishing the significantly shrunken page and then adding the rest back in smaller pieces. It will publish the smaller selection with no problem. It won't let me add the pieces back in, however. IWeb freezes up when I try and I have to reload the previous Domain file from Time Machine.
So, my question is: Is there a limit to the size of site that can be published using iWeb? If so how do I get around this?

    Reboot fixed it.

  • Error message - Can't publish at all

iWeb doesn't let me publish. I thought the problem was MobileMe and after over 2 weeks of sending and getting e-mails from Apple Support they told me that my domain.file was damaged and they couldn't do anything. Everything started when the counter wouldn't show, then some of the comments disappeared then error, error, error and couldn't publish anymore. Can anyone help me? I don't want to lose my site, I've had it over 2 years.

*Hi, I really want to thank Alancito, Old Toad, Clintbradford and CuZinBruce* for all of the advice. I learned something from every tip that all of you gave me. I tried everything you said and what finally worked was what CuZinBruce mentioned. I tracked down two corrupted files, deleted them and voilá my site got back to normal. Before republishing it again in MobileMe I published it nearly 20 times in a local folder, just to be sure.
I did find out something important through this process, the help I can get from this Forum is top class. You're all experts and know as users with experience how to get things done. Sadly this is not the same that I received or expected from Apple MobileMe Support. With this I'm not talking about the people involved in Apple MobileMe Support that tried, during two weeks to help. My complaint goes to Apple itself, its business philosophy, since when the MobileMe Support team figured out that my problem was not the connection they said they couldn't help me and that I had to seek assistance with AppleCare and that of course meant "pay me" and I'll help you. That I can understand coming from Microsoft, Dell or others but not from Apple.
I'm only a writer and not very computer savvy that is why I use Macintosh, but I want to migrate from MobileMe to something more stable since I've had and still have problems with the comments that suddenly disappear.
Well, thanks to all. I'll be checking in the Forum more from now to see the problems we all share and see the great advice coming out.

  • Can't publish to .mac OR my ftp site... can someone help?

Hi all... I tried my best to glean answers from existing posts, but alas could not, so I am posting my blurb in hopes that someone can just point me in the right direction. Problem: Since upgrading to iWeb '09, I can't publish to either my .mac space or my other server (bluehost) without getting errors. On the .mac side, the upgrade caused my entire site to go "red" (meaning it needs to be re-published, I assume). When I hit the "publish" button, away it goes through the page creation process, then begins uploading the site (I assume). An hour or more later it comes up with this message:
"An error occurred while publishing the file "/private/var/folders/SP/SpSOe.../ TemporaryItems/com.aple.iWeb_62.... (etc.)... /mysite/evo/Archive/files/rptilev6-1.jpg". Try publishing again later.
    ++
When I try publishing (different website) to an FTP folder -- the reason I upgraded to iWeb '09, and this was going to be BIG for me -- hitting the "test" button results in a "you're good to go" message (or whatever it says). All seems well. And when I hit the Publish button, the pages are promptly created and it begins uploading the site. After 10-15 minutes though, it stops, and I get a simple message saying "There was an error communicating with the FTP server. Try again later, or check with your service provider." The console.log reveals this message appearing just before the aforementioned "error" message: "Operation could not be completed. Could not connect to server "blahblah.com."
My normal FTP client (Fetch) reveals that a bunch of the files and folders have been successfully uploaded, but only a few. I am then able to use Fetch to upload the entire site with no problem.
Any ideas? A clue or two would be appreciated. Will I be able to use iWeb '09 to upload ANYTHING from here on out? Many thanks in advance!

We should start a club. I upgraded from 08 to 09 twelve days ago, on both my MacBook Pro and my brand new iMac. All my iWeb files immediately went red on both machines and stayed that way - and several pages of my website disappeared. All attempts to upload to MobileMe failed, whether I tried to upload the full site or just the changes. Sometimes I got (and still get) a Publish Error message, sometimes a 'Couldn't connect with MobileMe'. I've followed all suggestions on this discussion board and have been on the phone to Apple chat lines, who also offered suggestions that didn't solve my problem. Last week I spend fair portions of three days on the phone to AppleCare in Ireland. Very helpful, very nice, and after much experimentation, including dragging my site to different files on my iDisk, we managed to make my site live again. But the files on my desktop remained red and I still couldn't upload changes. AppleCare were going to continue to try and come up with a solution, but I haven't heard from them for a week now, and they're no longer answering my emails. Perhaps the person I was talking to is away at the moment, I don't know. What I do know is that I'm no nearer finding a solution.
Today another Apple adviser suggested removing Logic from my Applications folder because Logic 08 can conflict with GarageBand 09 apparently, and reloading iWeb (for the fourth time). I did this. No change. But it might work for one or two of you.
The point is, if none of these solutions work for us, what can we do? I really like iWeb and am a big Apple fan until something like this happens. And it shouldn't happen, to any of us, especially if we have the most up-to-date software and equipment.

  • ERROR! CAN'T PUBLISH!-- :(

I just get my .mac account and I can't publish my site!, everything else works good, the photocast, my mail, etc. but I can't publish my site designed in iweb, it loads everything, photos and video, but then appears a while later a sign of ERROR! can't publish. All my settings of .mac are OK at the system preferences, I'm logged in, and the sign appears!
I'll appreciate your help and answers!,

Some people are discovering that they can't publish from iWeb 1.1 or 1.1.1 to .Mac. One possible reason appears to be some filtering being done by ISPs. Check my lengthy response here: http://www.untergeek.com/?p=675
Try posting from somewhere else (a friend who has a different ISP, for example), or use dial-up. That's what several people have tried and found success. That will also help you in knowing that it's not iWeb but rather your ISP that's not functioning.

  • Client can't publish files with 4.0

I'll first start by saying that my client has been happily
editing and publishing files since February. Recently, she was on
vacation so I made a couple of minor updates using Dreamweaver. Now
she's back, and is no longer able to publish. I'm not sure it's
    related. The error message is:
"Contribute encountered a network or file system error.
Please try the operation again, and contact the administrator if
    the error continues to occur."
The problem started yesterday, but briefly corrected itself.
Now she can't publish at all. I have asked her to go step-by-step
through the process of editing files and I can see the following
    activity on the server:
-- She opens the file (index.html) and the following file
    appears on the server: index.html.LCK
-- She hits "publish" and the following file appears on the
    server: index.html.new
-- Then the error message appears for her.
When she closes the page, the index.html.LCK page disappears,
    but the index.html.new sticks around.
Interestingly, the .new file is 0k.
We turned on I/O logging, but all it does is confirm that the
PUT isn't happening. However, there are lots of complaints about
missing files on the local drive. They run Active Directory on
their network, and I'm curious if there could be some kind of
mapping problem with their user settings directories, and
Contribute is getting hung up when it tries to PUT the changes.
I'd appreciate any help troubleshooting this issue or any
tips before I call Adobe. :)
    Thanks!

I am also facing tghe same problem today. I cannot believe I
was unable to find a single help on this. i've been trying many of
the options but things are getting worse and worse. Now I can't
publish from Dreamweaver and Contribute also!! Why Adobe doesn't
support the ones who upgrade their software?

  • How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?

How can I Publish to a Folder just one of the several websites I have created using iWeb?
it drives me nuts having to emove all the other websites when I want to upload one.
    Sparrow

For iWeb, I like to do only one site per domain file.  I move domain files out of the Application Support folder and place them inside project or client folders, or in DropBox. Once you duplicate a domain file and begin customizing it, it will load and behave as a separate project/site.
I publish each iWeb domain/project direct to a server via FTP. Sometime I publish to a folder, then upload via FTP manually.
iWeb is a remarkable tool, especially when you work from scratch with blank tamplates

  • I can't publish to iWeb, it doesn't seem to be able to login to my icloud account. any ideas?

I've been trying to publish a site on iweb. It seems that iweb is unable to sign in to my icloud account. I push the publish to mobile me tab, push the sign into your account tab,( already a member). I get the barbers pole for 30 seconds or so, and then, nothing happens.  Any ideas anyone?

MobileMe closed in July last year.
    iCloud does not offer webhosting.
You have to find a webhost.
It's been discussed for the past 2 years in this forum, the MMe forum and all over the planet.

    In short :
    Find a webhoster.
And since you use iWeb 08, publish to a folder and use an FTP app to put the files on the server.

  • Can't publish larger files in iWeb 09

    Hi
Have recently updated my iWeb to 09 and had accidentally deleted my old Domaion file so had to rebuild site from scratch. Anyway, since I have, it gets stuck on pages that have any larger files on them (movie and audio files) despite having plenty of space in my MobileMe account. I get "Try again later" message.
Have managed to publish successfully to a local folder which I then tried copying with index to 'Sites' on my iDisk but that that too presents a problem saying "The Finder cannot complete the operation because some data in "" could not be read or written. (Error code -36)
I'm baffled! All I want to do is publish my site without any hassle, the files aren't that big only about 40 MB each. Can anyone suggest anything? Have had a look at iwebfaq and on here and have tried a few things but nothing seems to help so far. Any suggestions would be very gratefully received! Thanks!

That error code is -36 ioErr I/O error. Can you publish a different site? Crate a small test site and see if it will go thru. If not then it's not just your primary site.
If you expect to revise the site occasionally or want your visitors not to have to wait for those large files to load while the host page loads you might look at these ways to add a movie or audio file.
Movie: QT Movies and Opening Item in New, Specially Sized Window. The code used is shown.
Audio: Flash Audio Players - 3 different types of flash audio players. The code used is shown.
These methods require loading the movie or audio files only once and do not load on the pages until they are played.

  • Can't publish iWeb due to .png error

can't publish iWeb due to .png error

With as many people that have this same issue, I am very surprised that support is still sleeping at the wheel.  Some of the suggestions border on the absolute absurd (e.g. create new user account, check the system clock, etc.).  I've tried them all, including exclusion from AVAST, resetting router, etc etc etc.  iCloud status shows all green.
As the owner of a software development company, I find it hard to believe Apple, of all support, has been unable to get this issue resolved once and for all.  It would certainly make sense, as well, to collate this issue into a single thread instead of bouncing users off the moon and back.
I spent 1/2 day on the phone with Apple support trying to get iTunes to backup and was promised a call back from the next tier of support.  That was 4 months ago and I still haven't been able to backup my iphone 4S.  I've never seen software that is more kludgy and unreliable with every passing upgrade (sorry, but it's the truth)!
After two years of not being able to back up my phone, I am considering going to a more reliable platform.  After 6 years on the Apple bus, maybe it's time to get off.

  • Can't Publish Site, Can't Access iWeb

I am so far beyond frustrated it's hard to think straight. I have been having nothing but problems with iWeb for weeks, and I can't find any answers or help. Ever since I got the notice that .Mac Homepage is going to be retired, I have been trying to update the 1400+ Homepage pages on my site to iWeb so I can make changes as needed to the pages in the future. I have a music review and interview site (I don't sell anything), and I need to update as many of these pages as I can before July 7. In the past two weeks, I've been able to update only a few pages because iWeb freezes, disappears, drops the updates, or the little ball just keeps turning. I have worked so hard to make MainlyPiano.com a top-notch site, and since I upgraded to iWeb '09, it has been nothing but heartache. Instead of writing new reviews, I'm spending all of my time trying to get this program to work for me again, and it just keeps doing everything except what I want it to do. Apple Support indicates that there is nothing wrong with the program. Why then are so many of us having so many problems getting it to work properly, and why does it work properly for a little while and then crash? iWeb was working fine on my iMac for a long time, and now I can't bring the site up on that computer at all!
I updated a couple of pages this evening, and they published in record time. I went to update another page and the program froze, so I quit iWeb. Then I couldn't get iWeb to open to the site, so I rebooted. The two pages I updated are now online, but I can't access them in the iWeb program. How can that be? This is like an ongoing nightmare and I don't know what to do to fix it. Can someone please give me an idea of where to go for some answers????
    Kathy

I know this, but I need access to most of my pages so I can update them as necessary. The biggest problem is that most of my updates either don't publish or iWeb freezes while I'm working with it or my new pages disappear like they did last night. They are online, but they aren't on the iWeb application so I can't access them. I just quit and reopened iWeb to see if they came up, but they did not. I saved them both before I published, so I don't understand this at all. I still can't get the site to come up at all in my iMac. My forehead is getting very bruised from banging my head against the wall!

  • DO NOT UPDATE TO iWEB 2.0.3 - I did and I can;t publish anymore!

Ah, crap. I should have know never to download a new iWeb update before its been out for a few days. Ever since upgrading to 2.0.3 I get the dreaded "An unknown publishing error has occured."
Once again, Apple f's up iWeb.
    What a joke.

Hmm. I'm having the same problem. Have tried deleting tffs and pngs just in case it is an old problem recurring (or at least older posts regarding this "unknown publishing error" suggest the images are the culprits). This didn't fix my publishing problem.
Your fix suggests that the "publish to .Mac" function is (1) different from the "publish all to .Mac," since one works and the other doesn't, and (2) that the "publish to a folder" function is certainly NOT the same as the "publish to .Mac" and (probably?) the same as the "publish all to .Mac". My worry is that if I delete the site folder and then can't publish to it after all, then I might be stuck with no site instead of a dated site. I suppose that simply dragging the site folder from .Mac space to my desktop (and then dragging it back should the fix fail) might work; but, there's no guarantee.
Has anyone tried a "publish to folder" save after employing this work-around?
    Thanks.

  • Can not publish to iWeb 3.0.2, maybe a sync problem, how to solve it?

My earlier MacbookPro died and I got a new one. Since then the iWeb does not work at all. I have a valid Mobileme subscription till spring next year, but iWeb does not show the existing sites (which are in the other computer) and does not start publishing and does not want to sync the existing sites into the new one. I can publish to Homepage, though.
The only action iWeb does is to take me to the Sync window, it confirms that I have a valid subscription, but thereafter nothing happens.
This must be a problem with sync settings, I gather, but where do I find it, and the key to solve it?
I do NOT want to sync all information from this computer to mobileme or viceversa, otherwise I loose info stored from the previous computers to my iDisk and mobileme spiderweb.

    tortuga wrote:

You need iWeb's Domain file from the other computer (your old MacBook Pro) — here's a diagram of where it usually resides:
...But since it "died" and presumably inaccessible, see this Apple doc on How to back up MobileMe data. It says:
“Any websites you have published with iWeb should still be available within iWeb. iWeb stores everything in a Domain file, normally located in the ~/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder (although it can be moved). If you no longer have this file, you can view your currently published pages and manually recreate them within iWeb, but *there is no way to import published pages back into iWeb*. You can manually back up the Domain file, or use Backup to back it up.”
By the way, here's the normal procedure when your old computer has not died:
_iWeb: Modifying your site from another computer_
iWeb: Publish to your MobileMe account from more than one computer

    Michel

I have upgraded my iWeb to 2.0.1 twice, installed the program twice, and spent hours "re-dialing" (as suggested by some comments in the discussion) web.mac by trying hundreds of time to publish all the files. I have done this for over a week. The files seem to "appear" on both my end and .mac, but when I try to "visit" the page via any browser or the iWeb menu, I am told that the page cannot be found. Is there any way I can access my files via Dreamweaver?
