IWeb Help breaks Finder Help

Since beginning to use iWeb it's happened a number of times that the Help in Finder (Mac Help) has gone belly up, meaning that I have to trash the com.apple.help... files/folders in Caches and Preferences to get it back in operation.
I've now discovered that Finder Help breaks after I've used the Help menu in iWeb. Has anyone else seen this? Any suggestions for a fix?

Need iweb help - quick

I've got iLife and .mac, but I can't get the iweb to work, It's there but it won't give me access to even see the gallery of templates. I've never used this sytem OR even done a web page before. Help! What am I not doing?

Help! iweb can't find my site/files

Help!
I've been using iweb for 8 years. LOVE it. I've even successfully been using iweb seo. But yesterday went to make some changes to my site and opened Iweb and my site is gone. Usually it loads in all the pages on the left column all neat and pretty. But it looks like it's the first time i've ever opened the program. it's asking me which template i'd like to use.:( Plus i had a bunch of after market iweb templates loaded in too for options and those aren't there either.
some background...Last week i tried to clean up my desktop and dumped everything into one desktop folder. I thought that might be the problem so i pulled everything out of the folder today, including the domain sites file and the website folder. And it still can't find the site. Any help would be greatly appreciated and keep me from jumping out the window!
I've never had this happen before even with switching to 2 different computers over the years. its like it dumped it's entire memory.
I have an IMAC 21.5" 2009 intel core processor
running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5

If you are using Time Machine to backup your files give this a try:
1 - download Find Any File.
2 - launch FAF and search your Time Machine hard drive for "Domain.sites2". It wil take a while due to the nature of the backup structure. The search results will look like this:
3 - locate the latest backup from before the problem occurred and drag it out of the scarch window to the Desktop.
4 - open the domain file with iWeb as described below:
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

IWeb help getting started

Hi basically I am having a designer make 2 web page back grounds for me and 10 individual images that I will use as links. What I would like to know is how big shall I tell her to make the images for the back ground pictures? I can resize the individual images right?

i am using iWeb for a non .Mac account! the reason behind is that external hosters offer better online space and loading times than .Mac. Yet on the other hand, the iDisk, Web-Mail, Addressbook and iCal features that are offered with .Mac make the 99€ a year quite worthy!
i myself do not use .mac because my website is simply to large and the prices are not accepteable that .Mac offers for more space!
the next thing is that your .Mac account username will be in you URL and you cannot stay anonymous! your address will be something like this:
http://web.mac.com/USERNAME
so now you will share your username with the whole wide world! the other thing is that iWeb was designed to work hand in hand with .Mac. This means that some cool feature fall off when you publish externally, meaning to a different host, eg.: 1and1, godaddy, strato. These features include Slideshows, Password-Protection, Blod-Search and other small things!
yet when you still choose to go for .Mac - no one will get your address unless you tell them what the address is! it is extremely hard to find, if not impossible, your .mac address under Google or Yahoo! So your username is somewhat protected!

you practically have to also see for your country what hosters offer. 1and1 is extremely cheap and is over the world! Yet when you choose to have a external host - then you have to pay extra and if you close your .Mac account you cannot buy music in the itunes store!

HELP, iChat link in iWeb, HELP.

Basically I want to create a link to my iChat, but when doing so using the inspector tool in iWeb 09' it obviously doesn't work, an goes back to a http link to an apple site.

Hi,
MadisonP has explained the basic HTML that needs to make the word iChat a Link that will launch the persons AIM client (An Application that logs in to AIM).
If you are trying this and iChat does not launch of open a Text chat window for you then possibly your Browser is not set to use the goaim link format to open the required app.
You can change this in Firefox
In this section I tell people how to do it with Internet Explorer 5.2.x (And link to Downloads of older versions)
I cannot find a way to do this in Safari.
However not having another AIM Client app and setting iChat to be the Default AIM App in the iChat > Preferences > General Section should help.
On this page I link the process with a Pic and a query to the AIM servers if I am On line or not before the text is sent.

Iweb help - blog entries problem

Hello,
I am trying to create a highly customized blog in iweb '08 and so far am doing very well, all the pages look perfect over all browsers however i have tried to edit the blog entries page but am having grave difficulty, i have set the page attributes to 1300 high and 1300 wide copied over the design but now i cant move the generated blog content title and time/date above half way up the page. This is highly annoying does anyone have any idea why this might be happening?
I removed all the content from my 'sidebar' and it let me move the content up the page as soon as i put the sidebar back it wont work

it would help if we could see the messed up pages. otherwise we can only guess what's happening. my guess is that you have somehow dropped the content into the header making the header really big and thus why you can't move the blog all the way up. a way to check is to show the layout. and see if there's a grey line above where the blog is sitting.

SEO Tool for iWeb HELP

I have used iWeb('09) to publish to the ftp server, ipage.com. I haven't had a problem, until I downloaded the seo tool. Followed all the directions (even added a favicon!), except 2 of my linked sites do not work. They show up in the SEO program, but when I go to publish it, they don't work. I proceeded to publish from iWeb in order to erase what I had done, but still seems to not work. I know there is a "cache" for iWeb, would this have something to do with it?

It is likely that you didn't put the right URL in the URL field when you exported your website in iWeb to a local folder.
I would Publish Your Entire Site from under the File menu in iWeb to a local folder. Open it up in iWeb SEO Tool and then publish your site with iWeb SEO Tool.
It can also be that your directory path is incorrect. Contact your web hosting provider to get the correct root directory path. Only they know what it is.

@Old Toad: Publishing with iWeb SEO Tool to an FTP server should work fine without any problems. Most issues with publishing with iWeb SEO Tool are because of an incorrect directory path. The directory path must be correct and can only be retreived from the user's web hosting provider.

Automatically playing slideshow in iWeb help.

Hi all.
I am creating my first site in iWeb and in the home page would like an image slideshow to automatically play once the page is displayed. Custom dimensions, no thumbnails or text, just 4 or 5 pictures, automatically changing. Help! I have iMovie, Adobe Fireworks (on a pc laptop) and dont want the Quicktime 'Q' displayed either. Yr experienced advice much appreciated.

Change homepage in iweb. help!!!

i recently updated my website in iweb and i added a new page. i want the new page that i created to be my new homepage. but no matter what i do, i can't change the homepage. i've renamed the pages into "Home" and renamed the previous homepage somthing else but i can't seem to change the homepage. pelase someone help!!

IWeb help needed in switch from MobileMe to iCloud

I recently switched from Snow Leopard and Mobile Me to Lion and iCloud. In doing so, I seem to have "lost" iDisk, which is where I stored my public, downloadable files from my iWeb site.
I found iDisk, but it is not listed in iWeb as a destination source. Where do I now post public files? Thanks in advance for any help.

Singing up for iCloud automatically logged you out of MMe. Just go to the System/MMe preference pane and log back into MMe. iWeb will then be able to communicate with the iDisk server again.

IWebsites Help or IWeb Help

I have two sites with two different domains. I downloaded iwebsites and tried to merge the two sites together. However, when i open the recently merged site both sites appear but you can only view the content in one of them. Is there something I need to do to make both sites appear?? And for some reason the same the site that always appears first when i try to merge is the only site viewable.

Like Mireille, I stopped using iWebsites when iWeb '08 was introduced as it didn't work initially and the merge function still has not been reinstated.
One way to include your site 2 pages in site 1 is to duplicate the domain file for site 2, launch it in iWeb, call it site 3 and delete the pages you don't want. Then publish it as site 3.
Get rid of the standard navigation in both sites and create your own with all the pages of sites 1 & 3.
Obviously, the links to site 3 from the site 1 navigation will be "external" and vice versa for the site 3 navigation.

IWeb help needed - new user

"Publisher" documents have converted to iWeb documents but won't open. I'm a new Mac user so need some help :-)

What application was used to create the .pub files? If there's no Mac equivalent that can open and use them just select one of the files, type Command+i to bring up the Info window, go to the Open with menu and select "TextEdit". Then click on the Apply to all button. This unlinks iWeb from those .pub files so when you double click on one of them iWeb won't try to open.
If you have a Mac application that can be used to open and use those .pub files then select it in the Open with: menu.
There is no Mac application that can open the .pub (Microsoft Publisher) files. However, this site, eHOW, has a link to a web site that can convert those .pub file to PDF files which you can open on a Mac with Preview (included). The link is Create PDF from Word & Other Formats. You can give it a try.

IWeb - Help with Publishing - Please!!!

Hi all,
I have designed a website in iWeb and am having severe difficulty in publishing it.
I have followed some help on YouTube, but each video advises to download DropBox - which I have done, and to simply create a folder on your desktop (which I've done) and to drag it into your Dropbox 'public' folder - a folder that I do not have and happen to read many people not having this famous 'Public' folder.
Then I am told to choose a location in iWeb in which to locate my website folder and publish to the website.
I have already purchased my chosen domain name but it just won't publish :-(
Please, please can I have some help.
As you'll have already sensed, I am no whiz kid at these things so please speak to me as if I was a 5 year old!...or a 95 year old!

Make sure you entered the correct URL in the Publishing Settings page and that you have left the Directory/Path field blank as shown on the first example on this page...

IChat Link in iWeb, HELP!!!

Hi is it possible to have a iChat link ( example: ichat://[email protected] ) in iWeb 09' ..? Everytime I use the inspector to change the "Link". it goes back to a http: link , and won't allow the change etc.

It should work fine once you publish it online.
Keep in mind you are inserting HTML code directly into your site. That means that the other tools within iWeb (like text controls) have no power here.
You can modify the appearance of the text generated by the code by using more code:

The "font face=" is where you specify the name of the font you want. The "size=" is where you specify the point size of the font. The "color=" is where you specify the color of the text.
Again, make sure you are copying the code starting with the "<a href" and ending with "/a>"
