IWeb is refusing to publish to MobileMe

I'm having a problem publishing from iWeb to MobileMe. It's been working fine for a year, but since yesterday when I ask it to publish, iWeb tries to log in to MobileMe and fails with the error message 'Unable to connect to MobileMe configuration server. Please try again later'.
I've repaired disk permissions, reset my keychain and deleted all sorts of .plist files without success. I had been sometimes using a proxy server on Firefox recently and it was suggested to me that that might have caused the problem, so I created a new 'location' in system preferences/network and that got rid of all the subsidiary problems that I was getting (like not being able to connect to the iTunes store, Software update not being able to list new software etc). I tried resetting my username/password to a garbage one in .Mac preferences and then putting the correct one back but that didn't work. All this time I couldn't connect to any of the .Mac section in system preferences - they all gave me error messages or just did nothing.
The MobileMe website went offline for a while this evening, and when it came back on again then magically my computer was able to connect and sync to all the tabs in System preferences/.Mac . But I still get the same error message when I try to Publish from iWeb onto MobileMe. I also tried creating a new site and publishing that, but that wouldn't work either.I can log in to MobileMe online no problem by the way.
It has been suggested to me on another forum that I should post something on this forum as it may be a network connection problem. If anyone has any ideas how to fix it that would be very helpful.
Thanks,
Sarah

Hi Jenny, and welcome to the forums!
on top of all that now I can find my iDisk on the desktop
Go to Finder>Prefrences>Sidebar & checkmark the iDisk item... does that make it show up in a Finder Window's Sidbear?
This is the Tiger/10.4.x forum you might ask over in an SL/10.6.x forum.
It's quite acceptable, even preferable to start a new topic of your own, it will get more individualized attention, and many more helpers!
It can be hard to sometimes find where to start a New Topic, so here's the link...

  • URGENT HELP PLEASE!!! iweb is refusing to publish my site to my FTP server

HELP!!! iweb is refusing to publish my site to my FTP server. I've tried Filezilla, Panic Tramsmit to upload my iweb created site to my ftp server - hosted by Uk-Cheapest - server.microlite5.com.
I've also saved the files to both my hard disc and my idisk and tried uploading from there but it always fails.
can anyone offer any advice as to how i can get my site uploaded to my domain. It's REALLY URGENT!

After publishing to a local folder, double click the index.html file to launch your site in the browser.
If this version is OK then the problem is with FTP.
Make sure that you can login to your host via the browser and also that your publishing settings - Server Address, Username, Password and Directory/Path - are correct.

  • IWeb still won't publish. At All. Tired and fed up

Hi, yesterday I posted a Help note saying that iWeb was refusing to publish my website. I got some advice back from James Tseng (thanks James) saying I should keep trying. Well, I have kept trying - this is a day later - and i still get the message: "An error occurred while publishing file “/Web/Sites/iWeb/Site” when trying to publish.
It's like buying a new car that refuses to start. Every time I complain to the garage, they say: "Well, try again in a few hours time!". And the worst thing is about the above Apple message is that it gives you no idea what the problem is.
I have read James' suggestion and read web.mac.com/mark8heaton/iWeb/PublishErrorsHelp/Publish%20Errors%20Help.htm and l have managed to publish to a folder. But I'm not confident about following the other suggestions as I'm not a technical person. I also run my own business and don't have the time to keep trying all these alternatives. I bought what I thought was a professional package - iLife (iWeb) and a year's .Mac subscription; I spent three working days working on the website. Yet nothing works. It just doesn't publish. At all. At any time of day or night (I got up in the middle of the night to try again - but got the same error message again).
What am I doing with this half-cookedbaked product and service? It's completely unacceptable.
Answers? Suggestions? Before I go back to the London Apple store and politely request a refund...?
    Thanks

    Hi
Please don't cry, I'm sure you'll get sorted out - there's plenty of people on this forum that can give you good advice.
If you only bought subscription to .Mac yesterday are you sure it's up and running? Try logging in to your account on
    http://www.mac.com/WebObjects/Welcome.woa/wa/login?aff=consumer&cty=US&lang=en
If you can't log in then you'll not be able to publish.
If you can log in you can get some info about your account by clicking on the little house symbol at the left of the blue header bar ... I'm looking at mine now and the system status window does state that today "Web Services were unavailable for 2 hour(s) to all .Mac Members." Doesn't say between what times though.
Your iDisk is basically your personal storage space on Apple's Servers (.Mac).
When you (finally) publish your iWeb site, the uploaded files will go into certain folders on iDisk.
The iDisk on your desktop is just a copy of the iDisk on .Mac
The two iDisks synchronise with each other whenever you make changes:
You can manually make changes and add files to iDisk on your desktop, and it will synchronise with the one on .Mac - you can set it to do this either manually or automatically.
    Hope that all makes sense.

  • Error message when I try to publish an iWeb photo album with audio to Mobileme:

I get the following error message when trying to publish a photo album with audio from iWeb to Mobileme.  I've checked my account and I have plenty of available space on Mobileme and have logged in there.
An error occurred while publishing file “/private/var/folders/qg/qg-Qwo-82RWdDU+8ZNhusU+++TI/TemporaryItems/com.apple.i Web_9121_TEMP_344183369_3/sites/Site/Grand_Canyon_11_Slideshow_part_1_2_files/or iginal_2.jpg”. Try publishing again later.
Is there a problem with my photos or other content (I've added some songs to play in the slideshow)
    Dan H.

First see if you can publish your site to a folder on your hard drive.  You can select the folder by clicking on the site's folder in iWeb and using the Publish To: menu.
If that's successful try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • Comments show in iWeb, but not on published site (on Mobileme)

Does anyone know how I can get the comments I see on my blog entries in the iWeb app to show up on my website when published (I'm using Apple's Mobileme service).
They have always worked in the past, and I recently redesigned the site. I changed the theme from a predesigned one to the blank white one (and then designed my own look). As stated before I can see the people's comments in iWeb, but when I published all the previous entries (in the new design), the comments aren't showing in the archive page nor the individual entry pages. Is there a fix?

Oh, rats. Do I need to remove the folder that I published to? I'm not even sure where to find it. I have republished successfully with the comments still in iweb but they don't show up on-line. I'd really like to get them back on if possible.

  • IWeb Update - Publishing to MobileMe Problem

After running the 3.0.2 update I tested the app and all was well - or so I thought!
I don't use MobileMe much and decided to test the claim that it "resolves some issues related to publishing sites to MobileMe". Well, of course, publishing to MobileMe wouldn't work.
I resolved this by quitting, deleting the plist - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist. - relaunching and resetting the preferences. I also logged out and back in to MobileMe for good measure.
I never had any problem with uploading to MobileMe before this update. I wasn't even going to bother installing it because I never use the blog or podcast. I only installed it because I saw that another user had problems with iWeb not launching properly after running the update and thought I would see if I could replicate it.
Maybe one day we will get an iWeb update that actually works as advertised and contains something useful?

After I went through the steps mentioned above the published site had a few items missing in the header.
I published to a local folder to test it and this was OK. Then I re uploaded to MobileMe and this version worked.
I only use MobileMe for test sites so this glitch is not a disaster to me.
It would be worth while creating a small test site to troubleshoot this issue rather than using your main site.
I don't use the blog or podcast so I have no idea if there are any problems in that area.

  • I have iWeb '08 and just switched from Mobileme to GoDaddy and using Filezilla.  Now when I make changes through iWeb it doesn't actually publish to my desktop folder.  In fact, it doesn't publish at all but says that it did.

I have iWeb '08 and just switched from Mobileme to GoDaddy and using Filezilla.  I also just upgraded to Lion.  Now when I make changes through iWeb it doesn't actually publish to my desktop folder.  In fact, it doesn't publish at all but says that it did.  How can I make changes in iWeb and publish to a folder?

Choose the destination in the publish settings page as shown in the second example on this page...

  • Instead of publishing to mobileme, iWeb simply crashes

I publish to mobileme, and it just freezes and becomes unresponsive...HELP!

A first line fix is to close iWeb, delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple. iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iWeb and see if that helps.

  • IWeb Publish Error - A lock occurred while publishing to MobileMe

iWeb Publish Error - A lock occurred while publishing to MobileMe. Try publishing again later.
I've tried all articles so far on apple support site. Tried on new OS user and publishing to folder and publishing a test page. I still get an error. Publishing to folder works fine, its just when I publish to MobileMe. Also tried different network and restarting computer etc.
    Help me. Thanks.

If you are logged in OK maybe you should look at your Keychain.
    Finer/Go/Utilities/Keychain Access.app.
Try "Keychain First Aid" from the "Keychain Access" drop down menu.

  • Publishing to MobileMe causes iWeb to freeze

I know similar questions have been asked before, but I can't seem to find a definitive fix. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    1. iWeb fails to log in to MobileMe, then freezes.
    2. It freezes on an Intel MacBook, and a PowerPC Mac Mini, running OS 10.4.11 and iWeb '08 2.0.4
I've tried the following suggested fixes.
    1. Deleting the iWeb Cache.
    2. Deleting the iWeb .plist files.
    3. Deleting the existing site through the website.
    4. Turning off the firewall.
    5. Connecting via ethernet instead of wifi.
    6. Re-entering the MobileMe user name and password in System Preferences.
    7. Repairing Disk Permissions.
    Nothing makes any difference.
iWeb can successfully publish to a folder, so it seems the problem is with the MobileMe login, whereupon the whole program locks indefinitely and you have to Force Quit.
Syncing works, Mac Mail works, iPhoto Galleries work, and I can log in to MobileMe on the web. There's no problem with iDisk as far as I know, but I don't use it.
    Help!

You seen to have covered a lot of bases!
All I can add is to uncheck Auto Update in iWeb preferences.
Some UK users have had problems with their BT box as well. You can contact their tech support and see if this is a problem.

  • IWeb Images and Assets Switched Around After Publishing to MobileMe

    Hello,
A few days ago a podcast I am hosting started acting odd. If I add a new graphic element to the site, ALL graphic elements get moved around, stretched, rotated, etc.
This DOESN'T happen when I publish to a folder.
I managed to do some workarounds so that the site looks "useable" but all of my borders and colors are moved around. After digging through, I managed to find what goes wrong.
Here is a screenshot of the homepage published to disk: http://imgur.com/p35EZ.png
and here it is published to mobileme: http://web.me.com/ksnowsb108/PhuketSpring_Podcasts/Main_Page/MainPage.html
You can see its not so bad because I tweaked it a lot, but if I so much as add anything, ALL of the photos get rotated around, I get a red arrow instead of the top left building photo, etc.
As I said earlier, I found the problem, but I can't fix it yet. For some reason, when publishing to mobileme the "shapeimage_#.png" files get out of sync. Here is what I mean: http://imgur.com/xcCpP.png
As you can see, shapeimage_7.png corresponds to a red arrow when published to disk, however it shows up as the blue arrow in mobileme. So right now it's not fatal, but one more shift and then the yellow text box will appear instead of the arrow, etc.
Please please please tell me you have a solution! This podcast gets around 5,000 hits daily and it's embarrassing! I know I should not use iWeb for these things but it was a dire emergency.
I have tried going into Sites folder and deleting/reuploading, deleting cache, and preferences. Does anyone know what the problem could be?
    Thank you very, very much!

It CAN be site destroying. The only way I've found to fix it myself is to delete and recreate the page. But that is time consuming and if you do that, you have to then remember to clear your cache or you REALLY get a jumbled mess. But doesn't that then mean that visitors to your site get the same jumble unless they too remember or know how to clear their own cache? Even that doesn't fix the original problem though. And yes, it sounds like we are experiencing the same thing. Seems like others should be as well... do you update the site a lot too? Maybe people don't update as much as we do and don't see it...? Very frustrating and I hope they find an answer...

  • Iweb publishing to mobileme

When I create a website in iweb '09 (3.0.1) and publish to mobileme, is there a way to have the website be hppt://mywebsitename.com or does it need to be http://web.me.com/mymobilemeaccountname/iweb/mywebsitename??

    Buy a domainname.
To use a domainname, follow the instructions in your MobileMe account where you setup Personal Domain:
    https://secure.me.com/account/
Where you'll find a link to [iWeb: Using your own domain name |http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1107]
Or read it in the [MobileMe help|http://help.apple.com/mac/1/help> : Account > Setting up a Personal Domain
There's [a forum dedicated to MobileMe, Personal Domain and iWeb|http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=1163]. Though it works with other applications as well.

  • How to publish with iWeb on other website instead of MobileMe?

    Hi,
I used iweb 3.0 the last time one year ago to publish my website in my mobileme account.
    - how can I today publish on another domain?
    - do I need also a newver version of iweb to do it an dif yes do I need to buy it or is it aprt of OS-X Lion for example?

You will need to find a 3rd party webhost for your website, I have been using IX Webhosting for several years now with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across.
You specify where your iWeb site will be published from the Site Properties screen. Click the site name in the Site Organizer to display the Publish To pop-up menu. iWeb offers the following publishing options:
Choose where to publish your site.
Publish to MobileMe: This is no longer an option (I use IX WebHosting plans start at $3.95 a mo).
Publish to FTP Server: This publishing option provides you with a completely different collection of settings on the Site Properties screen. You’ll need to furnish iWeb with your Web server’s FTP settings (which should be furnished to you by the host) and your site’s address (or URL).
Publish to a Local Folder: The final publishing option creates a folder on your hard drive that contains all the files to display your Web site. Once again, you must supply the site URL as it will appear on the Internet after you copy or upload the site files to the server.

This is to do with the .htaccess file on your server.
You either need to deal with this and open it with an html editor or change your web host.
Do a search of this forum and there are plenty of posts that relate to parse error and .htaccess pages.  Have a look on the right hand side of this post and you will see similar ones like yours.

  • I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, how can i publish to iCloud?

I created a website using iWeb, then published to MobileMe, Mobile Me is now closed, how can i publish to iCloud?

iCloud does NOT allow you to host your web sites. You can continue to use iWeb but, will need a 3rd party web host to upload your websites to. Depending on the version of iWeb you are using you have a couple of publishing options:
iWeb '09 (3.0.4) you can publish to an FTP Server or a local folder. ( With the built in FTP in iWeb you will end up with an address like "www.YourDomain.com/sitename/Home.html )
iWeb '08 you can publish your website to a local folder
I have been using IX Webhosting for several years with little to no problems "usually the problem was something I did" and they have been quick to solve any issue I have come across. The have plans that start at $3.95 a mo (USD) and their customer service is top notch.
