Iweb is the slowest uploading/publishing program EVER

Hi,
I've been waiting for nearly 2 hours for the program to finish publishing my sites. My commment (gripe, actually) here is that iWeb seems to republish the entire site database every time one wants to publish an update, and that bugs me. Yes, my sites have a lot of photos, but what's interesting is that I only updated 1/5 sites--didn't change anything on the others--and it still insists on republishing the whole entire set of sites. I hope that Apple addresses this issue when it releases (SOON?!?!?!) an update to iWeb. Anybody know of any way around republishing all of the sites at once, just to update a couple of pages?

Do any of your other sites link to sites with changed content, locations, or links? If so, then those pages DO have to be updated since relative links have to be changed within those pages. Blogs are especially troublesome because of all the Next/Previous AND duplicate images that may have to be resolved. I have three sites that are entirely self-contained (they only link to sites within themselves) and when I make changes to one site and Publish it, the other sites are not affected, they don't republish.
Two hours does seem a bit excessive (though, I must admit, I've never uploaded more than, say 15 or so low resolution images at once).

Is Illustrator the slowest Adobe Publishing Program?

In terms of text editing, Illustrator is just so slow. Takes about 2-3 seconds just clicking the text for editing. Im using Illustrator CS5 on an Intel Core 2 Duo 3Ghz, 8Gig RAM on win7 64bit PC. Choosing fonts also takes around 2-3 secods for the text to update with the new font... and im talking about a 1 line font with less then 30 characters... Why is illustrator so slow with text? Indesign handles text in a flash. and Photoshop handles text relatively fast too. Any thoughts?

It's simply slow. It's still 32Bit and not multithreaded.
Illustrator is the anchor in the Creative Suite. Hopefully that'll change at some point.

IPhoto is the lamest photo editing program ever!

Is it just me or is iPhoto the lamest photo editing program ever? I had photoshop elements on my windows machine and was happy my new MAC came with iphoto & iMovie. Now that I have tried to use it I find it doesn't do much in the editing department. Infact Picasa has more editing features.

So instead of helping me out you insult my intelligence? You are pretty brave over the internet. So why does Apple advertise their computers coming with all the software you need.
iPhot: iPhoto gives you everything you need to do everything you want with your photos. Keep them organized and easy to find in lots of different ways. Use powerful yet simple editing tools to perfect each shot.
iPhoto isn't even a "good" photo organizer. Picasa is better at organizing & editing and is free. So don't blame the price.
So I guess if I were as smart as you guys, I would ASSume that iMovie doesn't really edit movies either, just organizes them right? This was the only thing I hated about moving to MAC. Apple Fan boys are very annoying.

My macbook is just over a year old, and ever since downloading the new software it takes >10 seconds to open ANY application. I thought the new software would make it faster, not slower? I have <500 pictures, about the same amount of songs, and 3 movies. What is wrong with it?

Well, then you don't have a choice.
I'm running Mavericks on an iMac (mid 2011) with similar content (perhaps rather more photos, but the same number of videos and music) and have not noticed a slowdown since upgrading fromm Mountain Lion. Most people seem to be OK on Mavericks.

What is the best desktop publishing program for the Mac?

When I had a PC I used several excellent DTP programs: Adobe Pagemaker and Serif Page Plus. Pagemaker was supplanted by Adobe InDesign, and Page Plus is written for the PC only. Years ago, it used to be Quark. Too expensive. So what is the alternative for the Mac?

Make sure the seller that sells older versions of the Adobe CS suites, if this was the sellers own software, has de authorized or unregistered the software they are selling. Also, make sure the seller gives you all of the registration info needed for you to register and authorize this software in your own Adobe account.
Male sure you get the sellers contact info in case something doesn't go right with the registration process.
The seller may need to provide you with info they forgot to five to you or you may need.
If, you have any issues with registering the software, Adobe has a 24 hour live tech support online messaging support system that you can access on the Adobe website.

XML Report Publisher program is erroring out

Hi All,
I've customized the AR Customer Statements.
I've created a data definition as "ARXSGP" and uploded the sample_output.xml of Statement Generation Program to it. Also I've created a Data template as "ARXSGPO" and attached the data definition "ARXSGP" to it and uploaded the customized rtf file "XXHCC_CLE_F_ARCUSBALSL.rtf" and set the default output type to PDF.
As I donot wish to call the XML Report Publisher program manually every time when I Print the Statements through Print Documents-->Statements.
So I've done the below customization in ARXSGP.rdf file ie; Print Statements Report which is an Oracle Report.
I've added the below code in After Report trigger.

My iWeb image names are incompatible with FTP servers and must be renamed but I can't find the images in iWeb. I can upload to a desktop file and change them there but then I would need to download them to a new site in iWeb to publish them.

Many thanks to responded to my question and sorry not to get back sooner.
Yes, I discovered by this unfortunate experience that the names of photos are a serious issue if the site is to ever go to an FTP server. Apple should discuss this carefully in their "manual".
One more question: I uploaded the website to a folder on my desktop. When I open it, unlike the photos in iWeb, there are folders for each page which have all the photos in them. I went through each folder and changed the names to be FTP compatible. I'm using iWeb SEO Tool which allows one to upload from this local folder to an FTP server but having trouble.
Is this because there is an imbedment in iWeb that uses the old photo names to link to the actual photos and it can't find them because of the name changes?

Since Apple is no longer providing MobileMe, and since my version of iWeb only has the option of publishing to mobile me (the "upgrade" eleviated the "publish to folder" option), how do I publish my web page to a remote host?

I used to have an amazing home page that I used with my students:

The school district "UPGRADED" to the new operating system. iWeb, which I have been using for years, no longer supports my ability to publish to the district server. Apple thought it wise to force us to use MobileMe. Furthermore, Apple decided that MoblieMe is no longer unavailable. To add insult to injury, the new version of iWeb doesn't even have a "save to folder" option any more. In other words, I can no longer use iWeb.
Am I totally screwed?
Is there another way to publish my site?
Will Apple make me purchase yet another "upgrade"?
Is this a total rip off?

ps. As a loyal Apple customer (since 1982), I find these antics very frustrating.

I suggest you upgrade to the latest iWeb version while copies are still availalbe: iLife '11 - Apple Store (U.S.). That's because it's now confirmed that iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ MobileMe Gallery
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken. If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows. Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.

However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone. How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
In addition the iLife suite of applications offered on disc is now a discontinued product and the remaining supported iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on.
HOWEVER, the iLife 11 boxed version that is still currently available at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those copies still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD.

IWeb team: What's up with the repeated Blog publish errors?

I maintain a simple, albeit many-entry -- all with photos, Blog on my daughter's .Mac iWeb site. Since the last iWeb update, I've started to encounter repeated difficulties when attempting to publish new Blog entries. All other updates on the site (Photo Albums, About Me, etc.) successfully publish, whereas new Blog entries pose the same problem, as follows:
"Publish error - Can't create the file "shapeimage_(blah, blah, blah).png. The disk may be damaged, full, or you may not have sufficient access privileges."
Many of you are VERY familiar with that ubiquitous message. However, my many attempts at troubleshooting and workarounds (e.g. publish to a folder, close open applications, delete files from iDisk, republish all, trash and rebuild pages, Domain reloads, etc. -- thank you, James Tseng, Varkgirl, et al.) fail to isolate the CAUSE of the problem. Specifically, what is the iWeb app doing while it assembles the Blog page(s) that results in the iWeb-centric "can't create..." error message?
Please note that I am doing nothing different when adding a new Blog. The process is the exact same one that I've employed for over a year, one that lets iPhoto/iWeb do most of the work (in terms of layout).
As most of you know, it's a time-consuming process waiting for updates to publish to the site, let alone wondering IF the updates will successfully publish.
Unless I am mistaken and more often than not, the "shape_image" error message is pointing to a file generated by iWeb as it readies the behind-the-scenes HTML for upload, yes?
I'd appreciate some specific troubleshooting and answers, please.

Is iweb the only web creation program for Mac?

Having just transferred to MBP after years on XP i was wondering what the best web creation program was for the Mac.
I used Frontpage to make my company website but would like to use my MBP to re-create the site and add a couple of new ones.
Can anyone suggest the best way to go?

iWeb can create two different types of Web page.
You can "Publish to Folder" (which will require third party servers) to place these new pages onto the Web.
Or. Publish to .Mac. This requires a .Mac account ($99 a year, U.S.).
You are free to buy, try, and use the other (dozens) of Mac compatible Web page authoring software.
But, if you're publishing to a .Mac account, iWeb 1.1.1 makes it very easy.
The annual .Mac ($99) service also still includes "Homepage".
It offers a simple "Web based" service that can also be used for .Mac users.
Movies, Photo Albums and even Screen savers for other .Mac users.

iWeb cannot import published files so you would need rebuild the site.
Yahoo hosting is notoriously poor and their tech support is awful. I would suggest you look for new hosting and start afresh. Some pointers for choosing hosting...

If you do choose to go this route, transfer your domain name registration away from Yahoo to your new host.

OS 10.7 Lion the slowest system ever - have I done something wrong?

I recently upgraded to os 10.7 from the App store, along with all the various things that need upgrading as well (.e.g Microsoft Office, etc), on a 2.53 GHz 4GB/500GB Macbook Pro (1.5 years old).
The systems is the SLOWEST and most ponderous I've used in 20 years!! It can take 10 minutes to start up when opening a couple of programmes (Mail, Word, Excel), the Office programs crash incessantly, swtiching between applications is slow, starting up Paralles is GLACIAL, applications freeze all the time. I've still got over 100 GB free on the hard drive.
Either I've got something set up terribly wrong (but 10.6 worked amazingly), or this is the worst system Apple has ever put out!! HELLPPPP!!!

If you have more than ten or so files or folders on your Desktop, move them, temporarily at least, somewhere else in your home folder.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except keyboard, mouse, and monitor, if applicable. Launch the usual set of applications you use when you notice the problem.
Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the page that opens.
Select the CPU tab.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Step 2
Launch the Console application in the same way as above, and select “kernel.log” from the file list. Post the dozen or so most recent messages in the log — the text, please, not a screenshot.
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Do not post many repetitions of the same message.

Without the actual crash logs nobody can say, but chances are that your graphics hardware is to blame, so update the driver...
