IWeb Limitations

Does anyone know of a limit to how many pages can be created in an individual iWeb site? I have a rather large project that will run on an internal company net. Therefore, I am not particularly concerned with file sizes. Will I be able to do a 500 page site?

Yes, you will. I don't think you will see any limit in 08. Version 2.0 handles storage of image files differently that did 1.0. iWeb has gotten a little smarter.
Be sure to back up your Domain.sites2 file.
Also, I would definitely publish that site to a folder and host it on a remote server, like 1&1 WebHosting or GoDaddy.

  • Photo gallery limited to 5 pages?

I have over 200 photos for some of my galleries. I would prefer to keep around 20 or so photos per page, but it seems iWeb limits the number of pages to 5, and it wont display the remaining photos. Is there a setting somewhere that tells it to limit it to 5 pages?

    Yea I'm retarted, I didn't notice the arrow ><

  • In iWeb, blog entries are not appearing

in iWeb, am entering blog entries which are appearing in the blog archive but showing up as an entry for people to see.  Any suggestions?

Do you mean 'appearing in the blog archive but not showing up as an entry for people to see' ?
By default iWeb limits the number of entries in a blog feed to 5; it then moves older episodes to the archive page (and out of the feed) as new entries are made. You can increase this number to 50 in the RSS section of the Inspector.
New entries should not be appearing in the Archive, though if you were giving them older dates then they presumably would.
Posting the URL of your blog might aid in finding a solution.

  • Multiple blog summary pages

I'm creating a new website for sharing news and photos for my family. I want to use the iWeb blog for my entries and plan to do some customization of my site through HTML snippits, iFrames, etc. I've been reading quite a bit on this forum and other useful sites on how to do more with iWeb, but I can't seem to find a solution for the following problem.
Let's say I allow 15 blog entries to be shown on my blog summary page yet over time I build a site with 50 or more entries. Then at least 35 will be on the archive page and that's alot to scroll through. I'd like to have the first 15 on blog summary page 1 then the next 15 on blog summary page 2, etc. Call it multiple archive pages if you will. But I want iWeb to keep track of the blog entries on those additional pages instead of me having to create new non-blog pages and copy and paste links to my entries.
    Here's an example
    http://allaboutiweb.com/
Any way to do this with iWeb 09?
FYI, I know there are a lot of other blogging software and hosting sites out there, but I want to use iWeb 09 because I've already created one site in the past with iWeb so I'm familiar with it. I also have a Mobile Me account with a domain name through goDaddy, so I'm publishing my iWeb site to Mobile Me with password protection.
    Appreciate the help.

first, iweb limits blog summary to display 50 entries, so you are kinda limited if you want to have a continuous blog over the years.
if you have less than 50 entries per year, you have to break your blog into the year and have a master archive page and link all archive blog(s) to it.
once you decide what to do, you can use iweb rss feed widget to display the archive as feed, but i don't recommend iweb rss feed widget because it depends on mme server, unreliable at best.
instead you can use yahoo's pipes: http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/
yahoo pipes is reliable and flexible, you can build your own feed that you can merge other feeds into one or keep them separate, here is my example of merged feeds:
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Entries/2009/7/25Not_iWebWidget.html
or you can tag blog entries by key words or categories, your users can narrow down the entries display with it, here my iweb blog tagging (click on any tagged word on the right side):
    http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/Archive.html
all code is linked to my examples. to do the above, you need to know yahoo pipes, ajax/javascript and iweb inner working parts.

  • Why can't I add more than 5 articles at a blog page?!

The URL you give is a link to a file on your computer, which of course isn't accessible to anyone else (at least I should certainly hope not). If you want to post an image use the camera icon in the toolbar to the editor.
That said, iWeb limits the number of episodes in the feed to five by default but you can increase that up to a maximum of 50:

  • My podcast Episodes are missing!

    hi,
I have a podcast on itunes and just published 5 new episodes. So, there should be a total of 9 episodes; however, my 4 previous episodes are gone.
here is the link to my podcast: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/bharatanatyam-podcast/id547089247
I am using iweb to publish my podcast. On my iweb website (http://www.kiruparatneswaran.com/Laya_Bhava_Dance_Academy/Bharatanatyam_PodCast/ Bharatanatyam_PodCast.html), it shows that there are 9 episodes.

For references your feed is at
    http://www.kiruparatneswaran.com/Laya_Bhava_Dance_Academy/Bharatanatyam_PodCast/ rss.xml
This feed contains the same 5 episodes you are seeing in the Store. In common with many podcast creation services or programs, iWeb limits the number of episodes in the feed - the default in iWeb is five. As more episodes are added older episodes are moved to an archive page and removed from the feed.
You can increase the number of episodes in the feed to a maximum of 50:
Increase the number where shown and re-publish the feed. Subscribers will see the extra episodes immediately but the Store will take a couple of days or so to catch up.
When you get to 50 episodes the same thing will happen and in iWeb you can't increase it (the Store allows up to 300 episodes).

  • Changing font in page name

How does one change the font of the page name (such as Welcome, About Me, Photos, etc.)? I can rename the page, but font type and size remain fixed. Is that an iWeb limitation or am I missing something?
    Cheers,
    Reb

don't think your missing anything. not directly though iweb currently. maybe in an update.
    it would be nice

  • Elegant way to build an index to my blog pages?

I would like to have a blog page index of sorts on my site. I can perhaps brute force one by using sets of hard links and grouping these on a page (this will take some thought) but that would mean everytime I create a new entry I have to redo the index. Anyone have an elegant solution - until Apple enhances iWeb with this function?
I knew I would be forced to largely work within iWebs limitations when I chose it as my site building tool. But this gap just hurts me.

  • Limit of blog entries in Archive

I have a blog with 201 entries. I had it set up so that the main page displayed 5 and the rest were on the Archive page. Tonight I noticed that the first 13 were not displaying on the Archive.
I have temporarily fixed it by increasing the main page to 30 entries, but it still seems that there must be a limit. I know this has been discussed elsewhere and it's been stated that there is no limit... my experience seems to indicate otherwise. Any suggestions?

this is just an out of nowhere guess since i will probably never ever reach 200 posts in iweb's blogging system (and i don't think this explanation explains how when you switch it up to 30 on the front page it changes the archive)... but maybe the limit is in fact 200 something for the DISPLAYED archive.
... meaning if you use the little search function you can still see your oldest blogs, but they are just not displayed on the archive page because of an iweb limitation.
well that is my best guess...

  • Simple script wanting to use as a learning tool.

Iam after a simple flash application that will display guitar chords. I basically a guitar image and all the chords already listed as this style equation. 355433 or something simular.
Basically i want a drop down menu that when selcted will display a red dot displaying the above style position on ther guitar image.
I suspect the first thing would be to define all the relevant x-y coordinates of the guitar string. There are six strings 1,2,3,4,5,6 .  then each fret is numbered 0-12.so for 355433 it would be referring to 13,25,35,44,53,63 as the positioning of the code - if you see what is happening there (there might be an easier to code it but that seems mathematically simple to my tiny brain LOL)
so if the x-y coordinates are defined to include all positions on the freboard and that is matched with the counts. in theory i could just enter in the 355433 style chords and they would show on the image in their respectyive positions with a red dot.
Mathematically it is easy as pie. but i have no idea how to go about doing this in flash but.... I really want to learn.
Look forward to any support or pointing in the right direction
    Much appreciated
    Aryn

Ok, I'm trying to get a podcast from Garageband to iWeb and it loads to iWeb fine. But iWeb limits my labeling to only:
    Series Artist
    Contact Email
    Parental Advisory
    and Episode artist
I want to use the other labels like:
    iTunes Copyright
    subtitle
    Summary
    Description
    keywords
    art
    iTunes Email
The application just isn't as flexible as I need it to be. When I create mp3's from garageband to iWeb , iWeb strips out the artwork from the podcast.
Also, when I try to change anything from the backend, because they are using javascript like crazy rather than keeping it simple with CSS, HTML and CSS I'm unable to modify the process effectively. Also, because I host the website on a .com that isn't .mac when I export it, the whole website exports rather then just the changes. Also, because I have multiple websites (blog, techincal website and podcast website) it takes a long time to export (and I'm on a Mac Pro).
I just think they should integrate their products better and making publishing to other websites seamless. If anyone has any hints on getting other iTunes tags and getting iWeb to work better with exporting let me know.

  • I need help finding a workable web program that is not CSS based.  I tried IWeb and it just won't work for me.  Way too limiting.  I've been using a 12 year old copy of Macromedia Dreamweaver, but the new Dreamweaver is CSS

Been building web pages for nearly 20 years, starting with GoLive.  Went to Dreamweaver about 12 years ago, the Macromedia version.  Tried going to iWeb when it came with a new Mac, but found it way too limiting with it's CSS template base.   Unknowlingly, I then bought a new copy of Dreamweaver.   Ooops, Adobe had bought Macromedia and Dreamweaver, too, is now CSS based, which for my money makes it useless to anyone who likes simplicity.   Now I find that even iWeb has been discontinued.  I was told yesterday that Apple doesn't have a web program any more.   At 12 years old, I just don't think it's practical to try to load my old Macromedia Dreamweaver into the new Mountain Lion (I'm getting a new Mac), though it is running, barely, in Snow Leopard.
I need to find a web builder program that will permit simple construction of educational pages, nothing fancy, nothing artistic, just create a page, give it a color, type or drag in text, insert a table, insert pix in the table blocks, add text under the pix... done!    I should note that I am not looking to build traffic.  I teach simple things for free and people who want to learn those things (antique sewing machine repair, quilting, building longbows) find me.
I've downloaded trial versions of half a dozen or so programs and looked at maybe 20 more, but all are either CSS based and drive me insane with requirments for constantly making rules and template models, and/or require that you base your web presence in their server.   Also, many will not work with pages built in other programs.  I maintian a volume of over 1000 web pages, many requiring regular updating, and they have been with the same server for more than 15 years.  I'm not about to change.
So, anybody know a simple, old fashioned web builder that's happpy on a Mac platform?
    Captain Dick

Although not supported anymore, iWeb does still function using Mountain Lion...
    http://www.iwebformusicians.com/iWeb/mountain-lion.html
... and you can purchase it from Amazon.
Start with a blank page using the Black or WHite template.
All modern websites use CSS and there are thousands of free templates to be had if you want to use a code entry style application. You will need to go this route if you want to create a site that is viewable on mobile devices although you can create an iPhone version using iWeb...

  • I am an artist who built my site on iWeb 08. Although I have easily been able to transfer to Godaddy, my ability to publish is limited. I must upload my entire site and it is time consuming. How do I convert to iWeb 09 and is this easy to do?

Help! I am an artist who had my site professionally designed on iWeb 08. Although I have  been able to transfer to Godaddy, my ability to publish is limited. I must upload my entire site and it is time consuming.  I was advised to update to IWeb 09 (which I could get, I think? from Amazon) because it has a built- in option to publish to any FTP. How do I convert my 08 folder to an 09 folder?  Will it convert correctly?  I know eventually I will need to rebuilt the site, but I would like to use this option for awhile to buy time. Is this feasible? I currently own a Mac Pro.

Its just a question of installing the later version of iWeb from the iLife disk and opening your website in that version. Its a good idea to have a backup of your Domain.sites2 file before doing this. See this page for its location...

  • IWeb Video Frame Size Limitation?

I can't seem to be able to place a movie into iWeb that is any larger than 640x360. It seems that when I try to drag something larger than this into the program, then part of the video gets cut off. Is this a limitation of iWeb '08? Is there any way around this? Does anyone know if this gets fixed in iWeb '09?
    Thank you.

The default page width in iWeb is only 700 px wide for some reason.
I use a "standard" page width of 980 px because this will fit most screens without the viewer having to scroll horizontally and also translates well to the iPhone.
If you increase the page width to a bit wider than the size of the width you want the movie, then it will stretch.
This is done in the Page inspector Layout menu.
It also helps if you "Show Layout" from the view menu or do Shift - Command - L.
This will show you the edges of your page.

  • IWeb Disclaimers / Liability / Limitations?

    Hi there.
I am thinking of helping a new business with posting a website for their product(s). What liability, if any, does an iWeb creator have re: items placed on-line for viewing? Granted it would not be obviously illegal....! BUT are there necessary disclaimers that need to be stated? Does .Mac place limitations on what should / could / would be placed on their servers??
If you're selling exercise equipment on your website and someone purchases it and then hurts themselves......is there any legal liability towards those developing the website for this product??
    Just covering my back-end.
    Any suggestions??

  • IWeb Storage Limitations?

Does anyone know if the content of your iWeb pages are limited to your .Mac storage capacity?

    Hi ramsey,
If they are uploaded to your iDisk, then yes, you cannot exceed the specified disk space. I also want to alert you to the fact that every photo and movie you use in your pages is copied into the iWeb Domain file on your computer, thus duplicating files you already have in iPhoto and stored in your Movies folder.
