IWeb Link Question

Is there a way to create a link and I can indicate that if someone clicks on the link that it opens the new page in a new finder window?

I get the general picture but, as there are a number of ways to do this, I need to see inside your head - this takes time!
You can have everything in one site but use "hide navigation" and use sub navigation menus. Have a look at this to get the general idea..
http://www.mirroroftheuniverse.com/CD.html
Are you publishing to .Mac or another server?
You can put a whole sub site in a separate folder on the server, cause it to open in a new window and put a link back to the main site in its navigation menu or have a link back button etc, etc....

  • Opening An External Application With Using An iWeb Link

How do i open an application with an iWeb link so that when people click the link it opens an application on the computer? e.g. Link called play now and it opens Gameranger straight from the browser when the link is clicked.
    Thanks

For security concerns I, for one, would not want a Web page to load or launch other applications based on links or downloads.
Only a handful of files are considered "safe" and even then the end user can turn that feature "off".

  • IWeb link undesirable

I send an iWeb link but some users receive a warning that site is undesirable and won't open the site.

Not sure, but did this happen before you changed the blog name?
Might be confusing it with Wikileaks, which might be a problem.
Works fine for me as it is, but some peoples preferences might be looking at it as objectionable.
    Other than that, not sure.
    Nice site by the way.

  • Safari broken image link question mark in a blue box icon

The url I get the safari broken image link question mark in a blue box icon most often is "apple.com/startpage/". There may be 10 or 12 of them. However, most apple.com pages have at least 1. In fact I am looking at 1 right now. I have emptied the cache. I do not wish to reset Safari because I do not want to reenter all of the passwords to various sites. Is there a simple answer?

    Hi Rex,
Who is your ISP and what addresses do you have set in the DNS section of your System Preferences -> Network preferences?
Have you tried logging into a different user account on your machine to see if that has the same problem? This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed)
Also, do you use any third party internet software (Norton, Intego, etc.)?

  • IWeb link opening in a external (new) browser window.

    Dear members:
After making several unsuccessful attempts to find this information I decided to post a questions here to see if anyone has the answer.
I have created two web site with several web pages in iWeb but haven't been able to add links to a page that open not in that same page but to open in an extra (external) browser window. Is there a way to make a link open in a different browser window than the one that has the page with the link ?
Another question I have refers to iWeb's display of some images. For my web sites I chose one of the templates offered with the program. In one of the pages there are small portions of text followed by a square image next to it. Some of the images in iWeb work as placeholders that are replaced by the final images once they are dragged and dropped over them. However, this small images following the text don't behave like that. They simply aren't replaced. I tried to "overlay" the final images over the template ones thinking that once the site was published they would be replaced. Actually, after posting the web site I noticed that when the pages load the template images show up first and them the ones I placed over them beginning to cover them.
Why is this happening and how can I solve this problem ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

    Dear varkgirl:
Thank you very much for your help and valuable suggestion.
I've tried your suggestion but ran into some problems. The links I am trying to open in another window are actually PDF files that the viewer can download from my website.
Since I was having problems I decided to try something else. After publishing the website to my desktop I then opened the pages where the links are in Dreamweaver. The layout view is great and displayed the image just the way it appears on the browser's window. I first selected the "link button" to the file and then in the inspector windows (bottom of the page) I chose under target the "_blank" option. This tells the software that the linked page or file is to be opened in a new blank browser window. I then saved the page (re-saved it over the existing file) to incorporate the changes. After this I proceeded to navigate through the website and everything works great.
Thank you for your help and suggestions. I just thought I would post this here in case it may be of help to you as well as others.
    Best regards,

  • IWeb Link to Web gallery

Hi everyone, my question is, is there a way to create a web gallery link in the link header of iWeb? I find this confusing that web gallery and iWeb don't have an option to link up. The gallery in iWeb is good, but don't have the same features that web gallery does. Since it is all hosted in the same place, it should be easy. I have HTML links in my blog now for it, but it isn't global. I have to insert an HTML link in each post. Any help would be great.
    Thanks.
    Jim

well i suppose the way it's meant to be done is to make a new blank page (calling it web gallery or whatever), press web widget and put in your web gallery albums one by one. each album has a little mini slideshow going on (and skims) and clicking on that takes you to the web gallery album proper. the problem (as far as i'm concerned) is that by making the web widgets you are making your own web gallery index page which is not as nice as the actual web gallery index page which you are bypassing.
or you could make a blank page (again calling it web gallery or whatever), leave it blank, publish it, and then edit the code so that it diverts straight to your web gallery index page. i don't know how to write code so i just copied the code on the index page and changed the destination to the web gallery address rather than the welcome page. this seems to work well. and if you know what you're doing i suppose to could also get the web gallery to open in another browser window.
or you could make a blank page (again calling it web gallery or whatever), and insert an html widget with code to divert to the web gallery. the difficulty with this is then when someone clicks on web gallery (or whatever you have called it) in the navigation menu, you then see the blank page for a fraction of a second.
anyway, i don't really know what i'm doing....i'm just trying stuff out!

  • Iweb issue - question marks ??

    Hello
I'm a new user to iweb and this is my first post.
Basically I have been getting used to the iweb app for a few days now and have started putting a basic website tigether as a kind of online cv for the work I do.
I currently have a small amount of web space (55meg) with my broadband account and have been using this to publish and test my web site.
I have been using Safari, Firefox and Internet Explorer 5.2 on my G5 to view the web site.
Generally everything looks fine, but the odd question mark symbol keeps popping up. Ironically the site seems to look best in IE, but question mark symbols show up in all three browsers.
I wondered if anyone may be able to help with this ?
    Many thanks in advance

Hi rdfmusic and welcome to the iWeb forum!
Your problem is a common one when publishing to a non .Mac server but is easily fixed. Tom Gewecke has created a page that addresses this with the solution:
    http://homepage.mac.com/thgewecke/iwebchars.html
Tom has also set up a page with links to a lot of tips on using iWeb:
    http://web.mac.com/thgewecke/iWeb/1/Tips.html
Others have also put lots of other iWeb tips in their web sites, you can search in this forum for those who have been most helpful and click on the link to their sites.

  • Linking questions in FAQ

I would like to create a list of the questions at the top of my FAQ page, and link them to the answers (so people don't have to scroll a long way down just to find the one they're interested in).
Is this possible in iWeb? It doesn't fall into any of the linking alternatives that come up in the Link inspector.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • Error 501; iTunes store shows no images-only underlined links/question mark

When I open iTunes store, the images show only as boxes with question marks and the text shows as an underlined blue link. When I click on anything I get a Error 501 message. My iTunes library and connection with iPod are unaffected.
I have tried to uninstall iTunes and Quicktime. I have tried uninstalling everything related to Apple/iTunes (including Bonjour) and reinstalling Quicktime by itself (was successful). Everytime I reinstall iTunes, the store appears the same way and is inaccessible. Please help!!

I have the same problem with our system. I contacted the Apple Help Department and they tried to help me via email (same fixes, uninstall, reinstall - same problem), but the problem persists. I can't preview the songs either and would like Apple to step up and help us all out!

  • 32 bit vs. 64bit download link question

My daughter just bought a prepaid CC student and teacher license for her studies.  She bought it thru thinkedu.com and it is the $199.00/12 month subscription.  Her computer runs windows 8 pro 64 bit OS.  The download link says 32 bit.  I want to help her install it this weekend and have not clicked on the link yet to install.
Two questions.  1) Will the 32 bit link be a problem in getting the best possible performance out of her computer (hardware aside)?  2) does the subscription begin when activation begins or is the meter running right now?

Audio and video apps are mostly 64 bit only - Audition included.
    http://www.adobe.com/au/products/creativecloud/faq.html#desktop-products
Which desktop applications in Creative Cloud require 64-bit operating systems?
With the new CC apps, most of the pro video and audio applications now require 64-bit operating systems to run. These native 64-bit applications include Adobe Premiere® Pro CC, Adobe Audition® CC, After Effects® CC, Prelude® CC, and SpeedGrade® CC. Flash Professional CC, Photoshop CC and Lightroom® also require 64-bit on Mac OS.
Where 32 bit and 64 bit versions are available, both will be installed automatically. The 32 bit versions may occasionally be required to run older plugins, though in your daughter's case I doubt she'll ever need the 32 bit versions.
The 64 bit version of each app should be the version which launches by default in each case,

  • InDesign CS6 folio builder/links question. For iPad app.

Hi there. I am a graphic designer who is very experienced in InDesign using the software for print purposes. I am now branching out with the capacities CS6 has and am learning to design (mainly presentation) apps for the iPad. So, I've designed a portfolio as a multiple page document with both portrait and landscape page orientations. The app would consist of a starter page which would be a load of animation exported as swf, and imported back into InDesign as HTML5, or MP4, or however (I haven't nailed this yet as I'm leaving this till last as this page will serve as a screen saver until swiped). When the viewer swipes page 1 they will enter into the main 'contents' page with a load of thumbnails of clients I have and within those clients a load of case studies. So, I've roughly designed the layout and will need to build but I need to know what I'm limited by.
    Page 1 title page,
page 2 contents (with scrollable bar with links to other pages)
page 3 will be the 1st client and will need approx 6 case studies, which I presume I'll need to make extra pages. And so on.
Anyhow, I digress – the question I ask is that to upload and test on the iPad through content viewer I obviously need to upload the articles as separate pages (incorporating both H & V orientations) but would I make the links from my 'contents' page when the document was a multiple page document (ie in it's original state) or would I apply these links (as buttons I presume rather than hyperlinks) when the articles have been separated and  I'm working with page 01, 02, 03 etc in folio builder?. I know how how to create buttons from thumbnails but I can't work out how to link them to their desired targets (next page/page no/ etc etc) for the record I want to present my work on an iPad as an app, without relying on WIFI or 3G. Last question (phew) Is I have a picture frame with a slideshow in - is it possible for the viewer to click these and open them in full screen mode and flick/navigate through that way? then click via a cross in the top corner back to the screen they were on. Very grateful for any replies – It's a steep learning curve from print! Steve C, London, England

  • IWeb link problems

Hello and thank you to anyone who is taking the time to read this and attempts to help me correct my problem.
Recently, my dad enlisted me to assist him in creating a website for his company. With iWeb, I was able to make a decent rough draft and then began expanding on it. In the original draft (I had about five different pages, and used the navigation link that iweb uses to travel from page to page) everything worked fine. However, when I began expanding upon the site and adding my own links (pictures that you could click upon to travel to other pages and larger images) some of them work, while others don't. I have tried replacing the pictures and redoing the links, but only one thing has somewhat worked.
I put the setting so the layout would be shown, and then some gray lines appeared (don't know what else to call them) and it seemed if I placed my pictures inside these lines, then the links would suddenly work.
However, in some cases the pictures are in these lines and yet some still do not work. If anyone can help, it would be greatly appreciated.
The link to the website is
    www.rcqc.com
An example of the "line" phenomena is on the Custom Carpentry page, found by clicking these links: "Photo Gallery" then "Custom Carpentry"
On this page, the top picture do not seem to work, yet the bottom four do--the bottom six are within the "gray lines."

your first three image is inside nav_layer, you need to move them out of nav_layer.
simple thing to do is to start the page over, leave nav bar enabled and enable view layout; these let you see where everything is.

  • Flash header in iWeb - Links not working

Here's the situation: I managed to get a flash header to show up on my  site by using an HTML Snippet. There are three buttons in this flash  file. Each of them open up drop-down menus with links to different pages  found on the site.
Currently, when I load up the site in my browser, only the drop-down  menus open and do what they're supposed to. The links within those menus  do NOT work.
The question: How do I properly create links in Flash so that they'll  navigate to the urls I specify? Any help would be greatly appreciated;  I'm kinda in a rut until I figure this out. Thanks!

The most obvious thing to do is to ask Flash question is the Flash forum :

Or search the Internets : [links in flash|http://www.google.com/search?q=linksinflash]

  • IWeb link to folder and enclosed files

I have several student projects that they published to a folder using iWeb, and saved to folders using other HTML editors(BBEdit, NVu). These are now on my local drive. What I want to do is to make a link from my iWeb page to their work. I need to know what directory to upload these folders to, and then what the link would be. I've tried several .Mac folders, but nothing seems to work.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    http://web.mac.com/penobscotriver/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html
MacBook Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    More explanations:
If the folder were made by "publishing" from iWeb the "root" (upper level) also includes an index.html file.
That index.html is merely a page refresh to the "real" .html file and that page loads it. If you open it with a plain text editor you'll see the simple code.
You appear to be a teacher (instructor) so I'm sure you remember the "index card" trick for organizing.
In the "old days" we would pin index cards onto a board and then connect them with different color strings so we had a visual of the structure. When you moved a card you also needed to detach the string and then re-attach it.
Properly organized the "folders" would reside in your iDisk Sites folder and the "links" (the string) would attach to a page (or pages) stored in the iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/foldername
You can then use some simple URL's (posted above) to aid in navigation.
Did you know that you can "drag" a URL from a browser window address bar into iWeb?
Takes work and patience. Trial and error. And these Discussions for help.
