IWeb - looking for replacements for 'blog' & 'photos'

With a deep Sigh..., I am finally facing up to the fact that I must move my iWeb Websites to another hosting sight and deal with the loss of the intergrated blog & photo pages that come with iWeb.  I kept hoping for a miracle but now I must get on with it.  I would be grateful for advice from those who have dealt with this issue already.
My biggest concern is finding suitable replacements for the blog and photo galleries that can be embedded into iWeb having a matching 'look and feel'.
I have developed many robust (well of 50) websites with iWeb and they are active websites.   The websites have:
Custom layouts (i.e. not using the suppled defalut template)
Blog pages (used as 'News' entries)
Photo pages
iMovie
HTML Snipits
Many have been designed for use with charity events and recieve quite a bit of traffic (see stats below) before and during the event.
As for the hosting - we will use GoDaddy or other Domain Provide with Hosting services.   We have already moved some of the more less complicated websites over.
I love iWeb (I know it has it's faults and I have probably pushed it to it's limits but it has handled it well).  I have tried looking at other products like Rapidweaver & Freeway Pro (Dreamweaver would be out of the question for me as I'm not a programmer - I can deal with some basic html code for snippets and such - but that's my limit).  My partner has begun looking at Wordpress.  However, the biggest drawback from what I've seen from these other products is that I can't duplicate the freedom and ease of designing a template/layout the way I want it.  I have tried to duplicate a website I have done in iWeb and I simply can't do it with these other products (at least without a great deal of work - if at all).
So, I wish to continue using iWeb for the main website desgin but desparately need to find good replacements for the blog and photo galleries to move over my existing websites.
Please HELP!
This is my 1st time up on the forums so I do apologise if this has been dealt with before.  In my searches - I just haven't really found an answer which is why I'm submitting this question.
Many thanks, MichelleSC
P.S. I have been an Apple user since Apple began and have always raved about their products.   This is the 1st time I have been frustration with Apple.  I really wish they would continue to develop iWeb and keep Mobileme.

Do you have visitors post comments to your blog or it is one the only includes your entries?  If it's the atter then you can continue to use the iWeb blog. If you currently have visitors comment on the entires you will have to move to a new blogging system, one of those suggested by Ethmoid and Jeff.
As for photo albums I've just run across a new site called ZangZig which offers albums similar to MobileMe galleries with most of it's features plus one that MMe didn't have.  The capability of selling your photos.
One convenient feature of it is that it can move/copy photos from your existing MMe galleries as well as your iPhoto library and other sources:
As for for iWeb can do after MMe is gone read the following:
On June 30, 2012 MobileMe will be shutdown. HOWEVER, iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
◼ Password protection
◼ Blog and photo comments
◼ Blog search
◼ Hit counter
◼ MobileMe Gallery
Currently if the site is published directly from iWeb to the 3rd party server the RSS feed and slideshow subscription features will work. However, if the site is first published to a folder on the hard drive and then uploaded to the sever with a 3rd party FTP client those two features will be broken.
All of these features can be replaced with 3rd party options.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: iW14 - Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.  There's a link in the tutorial to download the file that one needs to be edited and replaced in existing slideshows and in the iWeb application for future slideshows. Once replaced in the application it's back to life as usual for iWeb.

  • Process for Replacement for rejected parts by vendor

    Dear All,
We are facing a problem in mapping the process of Replacement for rejected parts by vendor.
    Scenario:
In case of import vendors, material is received in stock and payment is made to vendor thru Invoice.
Now in case of defected parts vendor sends the replacement and the defected part is scrapped.
Is there a process to receive the replacement part with proper accountability ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Ritesh.

    Hi AP,
We are scrapping the rejected material. Can you explain which movement type is used to put rejected stock to vendor movement type.
    Thanks & Regds,

  • I was eligible for replacement for my iphone 5 under the sleep/wake button program. Took it to apple store and they declined saying hardware failure. I am baffled whether apple is serious about customers. They manufacture defective goods and we are stuck!

The issue started just out of warranty. Had powering on problem and did not want to spend money on repair. After that the phone crashed and refused to power on for 4 months. Now I am eligible for repair but apple store declined saying it is a hardware problem and beyond repair. I am not able to comprehend the attitude of Apple. Obviously manufacturing sub standard products is their fault and we are paying heavy price!!
The company is obviously gonna lose in the long run!!

No it is not user damAged. I would like to clarify that this piece had problems like bugs, power on and off and charging issues. It used to heat up a lot while in use. It is defective iphone to begin with. Now when iphone acknowledges there is a problem, why not replace??
If the phone was not operating as its supposed to initially you could of had the phone replaced under the 1Year Warranty. Apple is only Fixing phones with strictly "sleep/wake" button issues. i.e. if your phone has other issues other than "sleep/wake" you must fix those on your own (if out of warranty) prior to apple fixing the sleep/wake. However if your device is under warranty they will give you a new phone.

  • What is the best replacement for iWeb?

I have been using iWeb for a very long time. I need to move on to something that is being updated. What is the best replacement for iWeb? I see Wordpress needs special software to work on a Mac.
    Thanks!
    Pat

I have used HostExcellence in the past and they support all the CMS's including WordPress, so you should have no problems there.
The top CMS's that most have heard about and use are Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.
There is probably no best one, but you need to look at them all and use the one that best fits your needs.
I have used all of them in the past, but most recently Joomla and Drupal.  Drupal has a reputation for being quite hard and Drupal 6 was, but with the advent of Drupal 7, things got a lot easier.  There are a lot more themes that you can use and if you want increased functionality in Drupal, then you can download Modules and install them.  You can have a membership site if you want it and this is easy to do - people can sign up for an account and you can restrict their access to certain parts of the site and then limit what they can do.  You can allow people to complete forms on the site itself and the results to be sent to you.  There is a Blog module that you can enable and that comes in Drupal Core with no need to download an extra module.
Joomla is good also and you can have a Blog with it too and there are lots of themes to choose from, but sometimes you have to pay for extras with Joomla - you can download Extensions and Plugins, but they may not always be free.
WordPress was always just thought of as a blogging platform, but it has evolved in to much more than that and you can now create stunning looking websites with blogs - there are a good range of free templates to choose from and if you want your blog on the front page of your site you can have this, or you can change it to another part of your site if you want a static front page.  To extend functionality you can download plugins from inside WordPress itself, most of which are free.  This might be the easiest one for you to use if you just want a website with a built in blog that is relatively easy.
Check out the others though at Drupal.org, Joomla.org and then WordPress.org.

  • Seeking simplest replacement for iWeb family website

OK, with MobileMe about to bite the dust I am seeking the simplest, free (or lowest cost) replacement for iWeb that offers the following:
    1. Ability to create web pages for major family events (wedding, births, etc.).
    2. Ability to use our purchased domain name to name the site.
    3. Ability to link to our genealogy site and other web info.
    4. Tight integration with iPhones - to import new photos and pages.
Basically, our website is an online scrapbook. I don't really want a blog to tell the world about all our recent activities; I just want a place that mainly offers photo albums and maybe some written content. I'm not interested in Facebook because I want to be able to have the site separate from Facebook.
    Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I can't see why anybody would want to pay this (or any) amount for a simple transfer. In any case, nearly all the files in a MobileMe account should be first downloaded to your Mac since most of us used it for more than just website hosting.
Unless you have a very basic site, you will have folders of assets outside of the main website folder. These need to be uploaded to the root folder on the new server and the URLs to them need to be changed in iWeb. Anybody who doesn't take the time to learn basic FTP and the server file structure is going to have even more problems with this part of the operation!
The actual files produced by iWeb don't need to be moved anyway since its just a question of publishing to the new hosting account using one of the methods shown here...

The first two companies mentioned on this page will move the files for free for new customers...

  • Is filemaker a replacement for iweb?

Am I seeing this right that filemaker has a web design tool..I downloaded a free copy of freeway but I am struggling with using it..My small business web site was on Iweb so i need to find something quickly that can replace it.  thanksmargie

FileMaker is a database creation application with the capability of creating online databases. It's no replacement for iWeb or any other web design application.
Why are you wanting to leave iWeb?  It still works and will work for a while.  If your site includes a blog with comments or a photo pages with commenting activeated those will be no longer usable when MobileMe is discontinued on June 30th. Which of the following features does your website have:
Features Unavailable When Publishing to a 3rd Party Server:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these items can be replaced with 3rd party options. Also do you have photo or album pages?
Regarding web design software do you have any HTML experience?  if so the Flux might be a viable replacement for iWeb.  There are many template based website design apps.  Among them are Quick'n Easy Web Builder, Freeway Express and Rage Web Design.
However, if your website is working OK for you now any you only expect to make minor updates to it consider staying with iWeb.

  • Is Apple about to introduce a replacement for iWeb?? and where can I download iWeb to replace the one I lost??

Having spent a little time searching for a replacement download for iWeb (details of why below)  it seems that I cannot find it anywhere in Apple Land.  From my limited experience here (iphone,  macbook pro, airport extreme and airport express)  it looks like Apple gradually withdraws stuff prior to introducing something really exciting  to replace it.
    So
Question:   Is there a new super replacement for iWeb about to be introduced?
I cannot believe that Apple would take away something as great as iWeb (having read reviews and used it myself as a complete web novice)  without giving us something better.
I foolishly followed some genius advice and did a wipe/reload of Lion, prior to updating to Mountain Lion (my fault, I thought my lovely Macbook Pro was running a little slow - probably wasnt - just me being impatient.) Anyway, long story short,  I lost iphoto (got it back by re-purchasing but would like a refund - another string running with this),   iWeb - can't find it anywhere - asked questions here in Apple Land and am getting some conflicting answers.
I am sat in London without my iweb for a some days and would really like to get on with a bit of web stuff.
Question:  is there anywhere in Apple Land where I can download iWeb
Question:  can you confirm that the iweb programme will be on one of the disks that came with the machine?   (they are 100 miles away so I will have to wait, unless there is an easier way)
    Sorry,  rambling a bit.
Hope you can help out there
    Thanks
    Steve

The iWeb application was specifically created to be used with .Mac and then MobileMe and Apple withdrew support for iWeb several months ago, when it was announced that MobileMe would be no longer and would be replaced by iCloud.  MobileMe ceased at the end of June this year and has been replaced by iCloud, that does not offer web hosting, so no need for iWeb.
Apple stopped selling iWeb in its stores several months ago and has withdrawn support for iWeb, so no, you won't find either iWeb or iDVD for sale in the Mac App Store because Apple no longer sells it.
You cannot download iWeb, so if you want iWeb, you will have to purchase the iLife 11 boxed set from Amazon and this contains iWeb 09 which is the latest version of iWeb.  Apple does not sell this either.
If your Mac was running Snow Leopard, then it would have come with installation CD's, so yes, you should be able to re-load the whole of the iLife series, which includes iWeb, iDVD and iPhoto back onto your Mac running Mountain Lion.  You did not need to make an additional purcahse of iPhoto from the Mac App Store - you could have re-loaded from these CD's.  The only place you will get a refund is by contacting the Mac App Store. Nobody here can help you with that.
So if you want iWeb back, check to see if it is on you installation CD's - it should be if you have a Mac running Snow Leopard and put it back on your Mac from there.  If not, then your only option is to purchase the iLife 11 boxed set from Amazon and you can load iWeb from there.
As Apple no longer supports iWeb and there is no MobileMe any longer, then there are unikely to be any further updates to the programme and nothing else will come along.  You can still use the app though if you have it and it works with Mountain Lion, however, there may come a time when it won't work with future iOS updates, so it would pay you to look at the alternatives out there which are many and varied.  Take a look at RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, Flux 4 etc.  You can download free trials of most and some are for sale in the Mac App Store.
Also, please be advised that this is a user to user forum and everyone here who replies to you is a user, so you are not talking directly to Apple here.
Give Apple feedback directly by going to http://www.apple.com/feedback.

  • Photo sharing replacement for mobileme galleries

    HI all,
I'm sure there are others out there, like me, who built their entire gallery strategy on using Apple's "mobileme galleries," and now you have had to find a replacement for that becuase as we all know....There will be no replacement for Galleries in iCloud, you'll need to find another service to host your photos.
So..what have you people done to solve the issue.
I'd love to know. I am still using iWeb and have a host for my site, but I need something to get some galleries on display. I used to love using the  "mobileme galleries" and really miss that so much. It was so elegant and simple.
If there are any suggestions you can share, please fire away.
Thanks in advance, and so long for now, TOM

The following if from iCloud: Photo Stream FAQ
What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?

Does anyone know where the iWeb data files are located or what they are called?  I can't find them.  I looked in Finder for files named the same as my website, but found nothing.  Any help would be appreciated.

If you erased or replaced your hard drive since iWeb was cancelled, then they are gone. Otherwise, if you have maintained backups then check those.
Usually such files are in the /Home/Library/ folder or a sub-folder.
    Exposing the /Home/Library/ Folder
Pick one of the following methods:
    A. This method will make the folder visible permanently. Open the Terminal application in your Utilities folder and paste the following at the command prompt:
    chflags nohidden ~/Library
    Press RETURN.
    B. Click on the Desktop, press the OPTION (⌥) button, select Library from the Finder's Go menu.
    C. Select Go To Folder from the Finder's Go menu. Paste the following in the path field:
    ~/Library
    Press the Go button.

  • IWeb + iPhoto = design flexibility for photos

I loved the old homepage feature of dotmac. But there was only so many ways to present your photos. Each template forced your images into frames that could not be changed. With iWeb, you can change the image "frames" or borders regardless of which template you use. For example, I took some pictures of the kids tonight and started playing around with some of the effects in iPhoto. I was able to recreate the look of the old Polaroid instant camera my folks used when I was a kid.
Then when I uploaded them to my iWeb site, I selected a border (inspector pane>shapes) that resembled the old Polaroid film print. The result was a unique way of presenting photos I could never have done using the old homepage features.
    See what you think:
http://web.mac.com/kentcallison/iWeb/icallison/Photos.html and click the link for the first photo album "Playing With Your Food"

    HEY!
I Feel like you found a secret I could not find, for
some reaosn no matter what I did I could not change
the photo settings to show rows of two instead of 3!
Also had you created pages on .mac before? Becuase I
can't see to find a way to create a link btween the
two, they show up as sepearte divisions on the .mac
site and I am unsure how to create a link between
    them!
ANY HELP WOULD BE AMAZING! You sound, and look like
you really know what you are doing!
    Thanks,
    Morgan
There are a couple of ways to link from your iWeb site to your old .Mac site. One is to recreate each page by hand..no fun. Another is to create a text page of some sort in iWeb with links to your old pages. You can add hyperlinks manually or just drag the web address from Safari's address bar into your iWeb page.
As for changing the layout of your photos, click on any photo on the grid. Open the Inspector and select the shapes tab (looks like a square and a circle) and then you can change the layout type, the photo frames and the caption area size.
    Hope this helps.

  • Looking for replacement internal hard drives for a MacPro

Looking to replace internal hard drives in a MacPro.  Was thinking about 3TB.  Any recommendations?

Look in System Report for the link speed available. (Mine says 3 Gigabit.) Get drives with at least that speed; going beyond that won't get you any more performance.

  • I am looking for software to store photos with.  I am not a fancy photographer, and really am just looking for the digital version of a photo album. iPhoto is not cutting it, mainly because it does not back up and restore easily on an external HD.

I am looking for software to store photos with.  I am not a fancy photographer, and really am just looking for the digital version of a photo album. iPhoto is not cutting it, mainly because it does not back up and restore easily on an external HD.

That's how Time Machine and iPhoto now work.  Restore the library to one of the external HDs, check it for the photos you want, export them to the boot drive and delete the restored library.
If you know the file name of the photo you're looking for you can search for them in the TM backup using Find Any File.
My workflow allows me to do that:
1 - upload new photos to a folder on the Desktop.
2 - name the folder to represent the contents and date: 01/03/10-Toads Bday
3 - use a file renaming app to sequentially rename the photos in the folder to: 2010-01-03-Toads Bday-001.JPG,  -002,JPG, -003.JPG,  etc.
4 - import the folder into iPhoto creating an Event with the same title as the folder.
Now I can search for those file by file name with any app of my choosing.

Can I use a 60watt t adapter with my 2011 mac book pro 13"?  I have the L adapter now, but looking for replacement that will last!

Yes, a 13" non-Air model requires a minimum of 60 watts, so you will be fine. If it is a 2011 or earlier model, the connector is the regular MagSafe, whereas this year's models use the MagSafe 2 that is different.
