IWeb making 100 kb pic  600+

i have unchecked the optimize photo option in preferences, but iWeb is still making all the photos on page 5-6 times larger.
i have made the graphics small (<100k) on purpose so the page loads faster.
after publishing i load the site and check properties of the pics and they are all 500kb or larger. makes for a wonderful slow loading page.

You're absolutely right. It's been a long day. I publish to a folder and run WebSite Maestro on my sites before uploading with WSM. It optimizes all image files and converts png files to jpgs. It often reduces the total file size of some of my sites by up to 48%. When running the tests just now I did it automatically without thinking.
Those holders do change the files to pngs and increase their file size.
Just ran a test and deleted the place holder before adding an pre optimized file and it was not converted to a png and remained the same size, 111 Kb. So if you were to delete the place holder and add the photo directly to the page in the header but below the navbar (as I said you'll need to put an empty text box in the header and drag it down to increase the header's size. Or just increase the header in the Inspector/Page/Layout pane. (the text box was quicker for the text).
This should allow you to use the small photos and greatly increase the page loading.

This happens no matter where I am browsing, yahoo, google, mail or news. Clearing the console seems to help with the speed of FF after an hour or so of browsing, it slows down terribly and if not cleared and or shut down and relaunching FF, both actually, it is painfully slow, like dial-up.

My computer will not disconnect from the internet.  It seems to find a clone router and continues even when I shut down and unplug my my own home iy

  • Issue with PDK - making 100% MVC complaint

    Hi ,
    a) Is there a way to make PDK for java 100% MVC complaint
What i mean to say is PDK for java is well advertised as non-MVC complaint. Is there any way to make it 100% complaint.
    Anyone have an answer
    Thanks in Advance

I experience the same problem too and the first few calls I received were hung up because the caller thought there was some issue with the transmission.
Most of the other features saw leaps in improvements - very much like the older team of programmers were given the boot and my Z10 finally got decent.
Perhaps BB can look into this teething problem and improve on the making and taking call flaw?

  • IWeb Making my photos too dark! What the heck?!

Im using iWeb 08 for the first time on a new site.
I've processed all my shots in Adobe Lightroom and exported them as Jpegs in sRGB color space.
The jpegs look fine and are retaining the levels adjustments I've made on the original RAW files.
Then I add those Jpegs to iWeb and the photos seem to lose all the adjustments I dialed in to them and revert to what they looked like in the original RAW files!
How in the world could this be happening?
It's as if iWeb is stripping all my adjustments off of the Jpeg exports.
I dont see how this could be physically possible.
    Any ideas?

In the upper right of this forum's main page is a Search Forum bar. Enter the word "dark" and you'll see many threads related to this issue. The following six-page thread may or may not explain/resolve your problem.

  • Making size of photos fill entire top of screen

I just got a contract to make changes to a layout my client has abandoned. I made a few changes to the CSS file, converted the site to a PHP template system, as well as updated the logo. After I made the changes, the height of the pictures changed. I don't know what I did to cause that to happen. Would this have anything to do with the transition or margin changes to the CSS file I made or the new logo I put in? Any help is appreciated.

  • Photos for iWeb: do they need to be sized, or does the program do that?

I have a number of fairly large files that i want to use in a little website I'm making in iWeb.Do I need to rez down, sharpen, etc? Or can I just import?

It can help to resize/optimize before adding to iWeb. It all depends on how many and how big the overall site is. For my photo pages with around 60 photos I just let iWeb do it's thing.
If you have a lot of photos you can batch resize/optimize them with an application like Resize!. With it you can set the pixel dimensions you want and the amount of jpeg compression (Quality). Since Resize! creates new files in a new folder you can experiment with quality levels until you get the smallest size possible that still meets your visual quality requirements.
Before you add those photos to iWeb turn off iWebs optimizing so that they get added just as you created them. If you add them to a photo page iWeb resizes to 800 x 600 so use those dimensions for your resizing. If you add a photo to a page iWeb always changes its size a bit and adds a stroke to it. You can remove the stroke and get it to the size you created via the Inspector/Graphic pane (for the stroke) and the Inspector/Metrics pane (for the size).

  • IWeb's Blog Archives

I'm using iWeb 09's blog feature here:
    http://web.me.com/timothyevans
I see where I can tell it to only show the 10 newest blogs on my homepage.
Now when someone wants to look at older posts, it takes them to the "archive page".
I've only posted like maybe 5 times but I plan on making 100s of posts this year.
Will the archive page begin to become "paged" as in page 1, page 2, page 3 or will someone have to scroll ALL the way down on the same page to view my 1000s of posts?
Hopefully iWeb2010 will have a feature where they can shuffle through all my posts by month, or year.
    Thanks in advance.

There is a "search" button that you can add on the main page of your blog, you find it in the "RSS" item of the inspector, but for me it doesn't work anymore since iLife09. I am looking for a solution if anyone has it. I've already tried to remove it and add it again, had to republish the whole blog, took hours, and it still doesn't work

  • How to export pics from iPhoto without losing info such as ratings, names etc

    Hi,
I'm trying to export lots of pictures from my iPhoto library to my mother's. I've got the two computers lined up next to eachother, filesharing on, using the "export" option in my iphoto to export the pics to a shared folder, then importing them into my mother's iPhoto.
But whatever I seem to do, all the relevant additional information attached to the photos gets lost on the way:
    - they arrive with today's date instead of their real dates
    - all the "names" information is lost
    - the ratings I'd given them are lost
Is there any way to preserve this information? It seems ridiculous if I have to again trawl through 100s of pics on my mother's computer to reinsert that data for each picture.
A second, less important question: when I export the pics from iPhoto (setting on jpeg) I have to choose size and jpeg quality - I'm sure these options are great if I wanted to reduce the size or quality, but I just want to export them exactly as they are in my iPhoto. If I choose high quality the exported file ends up smaller than the file in my iphoto, if I choose maximum quality it ends up twice as big. Any idea which settings just leave the size and quality as is?
    Many thanks for your help.

The easiest way to move files/albums/events plus all versions and metadata between Libraries is with
    iPhoto Library Manager
    You're running into a Catch-22.
The setting for leaving the file at the size and quality it is is to export the Original file. In the Export dialogue it's in the Kind dropdown.
When you export using the File ->Export dialogue you can write some of the info to the file on the way out: Titles and Descriptions (which also gets Keywords). You can't write ratings information because this is not standard metadata. A workaround: use a keyword: '5', '4' etc.
The catch is that this info is not in the Original file. So, if you export as anythign other than Original you have to choose a size and quality. If you export the Original you don't get the metadata - because that's not in the original.
Hence my suggestion of Library Manager.

  • Photo Resolution in iWeb

Hello all, completely new to this and have only been using my Mac for about a month, but thought I'd give it a try. My question relates to when you are building your website in iweb and bringing in pics from Aperture. What I am wondering is this, when you drag your pics from the Aperture tab in the media column in iweb, does it place the photos on your page at full resolution or is it reducing it for you? I know the ideal resolution for web photos is 72 dpi (prevents copying at full res. for printing) but the photos I have stored in Aperture are usually full resolution unless I export them with an export preset where I have chosen the resolution. I hope that makes sense, thank you to anyone that may be able to help!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Actually iWeb does a pretty good job of optimizing photos when added to a web page if its preferences are set to optimize upon import.
I added a 3.3 MB, 3264 x 2448 pixel JPEG photo to a page, resized it to 300 x 225 pixels and published. The resulting jpg file was reduced to 41KB.
I ran some other tests on this demo page: Photo Import and Download File Size Test.
For photos added to photo pages or album pages it's a different story and depends on what size you select for downloading.

  • No pics appear in iphoto and aperture sidebar since iLife 11

With the update of iLife11 the pics disappeared from the sidebar under iPhoto and Aperture.
While the sidebar for Audio, Movies and Widgets runs well, only the running upload icon appears beside of iPhoto and Aperture.
Why does iWeb not find the pics?!
How to help iWeb to get access to the photo libraries?
    Cheers,
    Thomas

Since it works OK in your wife's account it could be a preference file that is causing the problem in your account. Here's how to determine if that's the problem:
Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard/Snow Leopard
    1 - close all applications.
2 - open your Library folder, Home/Library, and drag the Preferences folder to the Desktop. A new Preference folder will be immediately created in the Library.
3 - run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
4 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button.
5 - If the problem is NOT fixed, drag the Preferencess folder on the Desktop into the Library to replace the new one that was created.

  • Iweb help for my wedding site

    Hi all,
I have done a really basic iWeb site for my wedding, but i am looking to put some sort of R.S.V.P. page on there that my guests can use to let us know.  Has anybody seen this done or knows how to do it.  I would want the system only to be visable to the person confirming there attendence and to me.
I have attached the URL at the bottom if any one has any ideas or tips for improvements please give me a shout

You may try to re-copy the code from wufoio and re-paste it into iWeb making a new html snippet.
Actually as it works from wufoo.com website it should also work from your website as it should be exactly the same...
There may be some delay between the entry being sent to wufoo and getting e-mail notification but shouldn't take hours anyway...

  • IWeb since moving off of MM problems

I have a folder for my iWeb blog on my godaddy server but every time I update it wants to replace the entire blog file.  It says:
"A folder with the name "pbp" already exists on the server.  Do you want to replace it?
Replacing it will completely overwrite the current contents of the folder on the server."
Is there a trick to making it only replace what has changed?
    http://www.patrickbennett.com/blog/pbp/pbpblog/pbpblog.html
    Thanks for any clues.....

Yes Wyodor, that's a problem.  That's the old MM address and it's on all of my pages, do you know of a "search and replace" tool?  I can't imagine having to one by one change the address.
Roddy & Cyclosaurus:  I'm trying to follow your "tips".  You seem to be poking at each other and not at me, I've only been on iWeb making a blog since Jan of 2006, about the day it was released, but don't delve into it any deeper than I have time for.
I am uploading via iWeb ftp and have the root folder set to my root folder of my main site:
(now this won't let me upload images)  Under Website URL I have:  http://www.patrickbennett.com
Should that be a different root folder?
I've always been puzzled as to why the site address has double names like pbp/pbpblog/pbpblog.html but am guessing it is folder/document related.
    Again, thanks for any clues.

  • Is there a way to have files available for download on your iweb site?

Ok here's the question. If I wanted a image file or music file to be available for download on your iweb site.....would that be possible?
Kind of like when you go to a website and sometimes it has a link you can press to download a file. If you click the file then the "save as" or "download" window opens depending on your browser.
Is something like this available on an iweb site? If so then how would you create something like that? Any help would be appreciated.

    audiophiler,
There are two ways to link to files with iWeb. The approach that iWebFaq outlines results in iWeb making a copy of the file in question and storing it in the domain.sites file. Then, when it publishes your website, it puts a copy of the file in the right place in the folders it publishes. Visitors to your site then download that copy.
You are correct that you can put things in your public folder of your iDisk for download. But the process of linking to those files is different. When you set up the link in iWeb (using the inspector) you need to choose "external link" and provide the url of the file in question.
For more background on the differences between these approaches, and the advantages of each, see this thread. That thread also has some good links for sorting out what the url of the files in your public (and other) folders of your iDisk are.

Yep. I realize what the spec sheets are saying on hardware but, I'm interested in real world experiences. What is the lowest level Mac running iWeb? Thanks.
    G3 600   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I think it will depend on the size of your site : I have a 1GHz G4 iMac with 768 MB RAM; my domain file (in application support/iWeb) is over 1 GB and the published site about 200 MB : it takes more than one hour to publish to a folder and more than 2 hours to publish to my .mac, which is incredibely slow...

  • Lumia 1020 can't take any high resolution pics aft...

    Hi everybody, I'm new here...
I've got this Lumia 1020, and until the latest update it used to make 2 different pictures after one shoot: a low-res and a high res.
My latestt update: (Windows Phone 8.1; (8.10.12393.890) Revisionnumber firmware: 3051.50009.1424.0001; Revisionnumber hardware: 4.4.0.2
After the latest update my 1020 only makes low-resolution pictures.
Could anybody help me to find the right settings for making high-res pics again?
At the settings page I chose the Nokia camera instead of the Microsoft camera, and pressed the camera-reset button as well.
    Thanx!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Thanks, after the update I had to retrieve my "Nokia Camera" app. The standard settings were JPEG 5MP.
I've been messing around with settings before, not being aware that I was in "Microsoft Camera" mode.
The update wiped away many standard Nokia apps, such as the Nav-system. I had to get them beack from the Nokia store.
So everything is allright now, thanks a lot!
