IWeb + MobileMe + Snow Leopard = any observations?

Hi,
Haven't picked up Snow Leopard yet but curious if anyone who uses iWeb 09 and MobileMe for hosting and has installed Snow Leopard if you've seen any improvements or issues. Thanks.

G2A2 ~ Welcome to the discussions. Me neither, but you can validate your fonts to see how many have warnings or errors:
Applications folder > Font Book > Edit menu > Select All > File menu > Validate Fonts. See more in this Apple doc:

That article mentions deleting iWeb's preference file — as does THIS article:
"...you can find the preference file, "com.apple.FontBook.plist", and move it to your desktop. This will force FontBook to create a new preference file when you quit and restart the program."
...But I haven't tried that myself. If you try anything like the above, make sure you have a bootable clone backup first:

  • IWeb 09 + Snow Leopard = Character Spacing / Tracking Disaster!

I have a big problem. Upgraded to Snow Leopard, all went fine... but now much of the text in my iWeb 09 pages are all bunched on top of each other, where they looked fine before. This is primarily a problem with title text, and happens with all new text as well. It seems like at a standard size font, the letters are just a little too close together. But as you increase the size of the font... the letters do not get any more space between them, so the larger titles look like just a pile of letters on top of each other, and are completely and 100% unreadable.
I have tried using the "Character Spacing" slider in Inspector and it literally does nothing, I have tried using the "Loosen Tracking" option in the Format\Font menu and it similarly does nothing at all. I have tried switching fonts and have tried starting new text boxes, and nothing has any effect whatsoever.
I cannot update any of my sites until this gets resolved. Can anybody help?

Try quitting iWeb. deleting the preference file - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist, restarting your Mac, running Disk Utility to repair permissions and then relaunching the application.

  • IWeb and Snow Leopard

After a few months of not using the app, I tried to launch iWeb and it is hung up on "Opening" - where I have to Force Quit since the app won't respond. I have an older version (1.1.2) and have upgraded to Snow Leopard (10.6.2) since I last used the app.
I have tried a suggestion by Old Toad to delete com.apple.iWeb.plist file and try again, but this did not resolve the issue.
    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  • Trouble with iWeb and Snow Leopard?

I have a iMac (early 2007) Dual Core Intel Based, and have been using iWeb for a couple of years just fine.
Recently (a few months ago) I upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and since then my computer freezes etc...
I've been getting the dreaded Grey Screen with the Apple Logo and churning gear at startup and the computer won't get passed that point.
I've tried booting from my Snow Leopard Disk and have run Disk Utility and Repair, and I have no errors.
What's odd is that if I try to open iWeb now and start using it for more then a couple of minutes the computer gets the dreaded spinning rainbow and freezes up, forcing me to shut down often.
Now, I am only able to start my computer early in the morning after it has been turned off at night.
    Any Reccomendations?
    Thanks in Advance...
    BJB

Assuming the actual install of Snow Leopard is OK, you could run Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) to see if there is any unusual activity when your Mac is idling.
If so, you can launch Console.app to see if you can see what it is that's causing it.
I had that problem on an old iMac last night where iWeb was sluggish and the ball was spinning.
It turned out that CrashReporter was hogging the CPU by continuously creating reports for an unidentified app, hidden in the System files, that was trying to launch. After tracking down and extermination it, all became peaceful again.

  • Upgrade OS 10.5.8 to Snow Leopard - any problems?

    My computer info:
    Model Name:
    iMac
    Model Identifier: iMac8,1
    Mac OS X Version 10.5.8
Processor: 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory: 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 6 MB
    Memory: 2 GB
    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
    Boot ROM Version: IM81.00C1.B00
    SMC Version (system): 1.30f1
I've been happy with my OS X 10.5.8, but I'm getting messages that my Safari Version 5.0.6 browser will no longer be supported by various web sites and Google Mail.  I can't upgrade my browser unless I upgrade my OS.
I guess I'll have move into the 21st Century!
I don't use any apps like Blue Tooth, Cell Phone, etc. but I do use Airport for connecting to the internet.
My questions for you tech wizards:
    - If I purchase and install Snow Leopard, will I lose anything I already have on my computer: files, photos, software, etc?
    - Will I still be able to keep Photoshop Version 8.0 or will it disappear?  I don't have the disk to reinstall it.
    - How difficult would it be to upgrade Safari and Firefox after Snow Leopard?
Thanks for any help for this "in the stone age" computerist.
    Nina

If yoU do not want to upgrade your OS X immediately, you can try another web browser.
You can try an older version of Mozilla FireFox. Last compatible version for OS X 10.5.8 was two years, ago.

  • Fonts and Mac OS 10.6.5 Snow Leopard - any guide available?

FONTS: I am trying to find an Apple pdf guide or information on how to work with Fonts, where they are stored etc. For example - in HD/Library/Fonts I have 185 items - of which 184 are fonts; and 1 is a Microsoft fonts folder, in which there are 131 items - all fonts - some which are duplicates (exact??) of the other 184 fonts in the fonts folder.
Then there are NO fonts in /scschulte(user)/Library/Fonts but 4 files that seem to contain information about fonts.
    There are protected fonts in the system folder/Library/Protected fonts;
There are disabled fonts folders and font collection folders...
    even fonts in iMovie!
How to manage this, reduce the number without causing problems; how to know when to use / keep a Microsoft font vs another etc. etc....?!
Thanks for any info here-- and is this similar (or exactly the same) in SL as in Leopard?? (I have the Missing Manual for Leopard, but not Snow Leopard).
    Best regards,

  • No audio after downloading Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - any suggestions??

I bought the disk with Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard directly from Apple. After installation, my audio no longer works. The Macbook still makes a sound when booting up, so the speakers still work, but I cannot get any audio to work now. Help!!!

    Hello,
I had this happen to my PowerBook, I Just reset the PMU and it worked fine after rebooting.
For a MacBook, try resetting the SMC
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If that don't work try resetting the PRAM

  • Equivalent of the Snow Leopard "Any Recipient" Search

The whizzy new Lion search functionality in Mail is working fine for me... except there seems to be no way to do an "any recipieint" search. I can search by the various headers individually, but I used the "Any Recipient" search in Snow Leopard constantly, and not having it is a real irritation. Is there a way of doing the same thing on Lion?

Ok, so this may (and I stress the word "may") actually be a battery issue that was highlighted by Lion. But about the youtube videos.... do you watch them in Flash? If so Flash is a known battery drainer, and you may need to upgrade to the latest version of the plug-in. This certainly can't hurt.
Next, let's check your battery health. Pull down the Apple Menu and hold down the Option key, then select System Information. Under Hardware highlight Power and look for "health information." This is what mine says:
Post yours back so we can take a look.
Also, do you have any Safari extensions installed? You can try disabling them to see if that helps.

  • Cannot access safe boot for Mac Air running Snow Leopard any suggestion please?

Mac Air - Mid 2011 (79gig free space). Running Snow Leopard 10.6 + all updates installed to-date. Last update was iTunes 98m file which was installed 4 days ago.
Unit has progressively slowed up, starting with intermittent freezing of cursor, which appears to have started not long after connecting iPhone 5 running current iOS.
Have accessed Safe Boot and ran drive utility check, all ok.
Received error message after drive check stating, "(AppleUsbEthernetHost.text) incorrectly installed".
Have subsequently tried accessing Safe Boot again to try and reset permissions, but can not access as unit constantly freezes at Login page.
Have followed Apple support recommendations to access Safe Boot, but to no avail.
Have seen forum references to the above error relating to iOS mobile devices causing problems with earlier versions of iTunes updates.
Any suggestions as to how to proceed from here would be appreciated ?
    Ivy

I suggest you backup your files, if possible, then do the following:
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
Reinstall your third-party software from the original media. Restore your data from the backup.

  • Quicktime not working in iWeb on Snow Leopard

I don't often use Safari, but today I did and noticed that the quicktime movies or rather audio is no longer working on most of my pages I made in iWeb. It is working on the home page though. What can be the problem?
On this page and 99 other pages I get a question mark where the audio is supposed to be:
    http://www.heliam.net/One_Hundred_Poems/2_Jito.html
The home page is ok though: http://www.heliam.net/One_Hundred_Poems/Home.html
The quicktime audio is working on all pages in Firefox.
How can I get this working in Safari again on my Snow Leopard iMac?
The pages and quicktime items play fine on my MacBook Pro with Lion.
    Help appreciated.

I solved the problem by simply removing Safari and using an other browser. I'll have to remove the sentence on my webpages that advises people to use Safari.

  • CS2 won't open on Snow Leopard - any secrets you care to share?

I just got an imac with snow leopard pre-installed...and I installed PS CS2 and low and behold - the application stalls when opening Photoshop. while installing, imac informed me that rosetta had to be installed so I agreed. Photoshop doesn't open but Image Ready opens fine (a program I don't use).
What to do? Is there something else I can try to do other than upgrading to CS5?
I've read in some of these discussions that some people have CS2 running fine and if yours does - what is the secret?
    many thanks!

This problem occasionally happens for upgrade installs. I believe what's happening for you is that your Mail dock icon points to the wrong place. This can happen if you have another copy of Mac OS X installed on another volume, or if you ever moved Mail from its /Applications folder.
If that's indeed the problem, the fix is: remove Mail from your Dock, open a Finder window and go to the /Applications folder, launch Mail from Finder, and choose the "Keep in Dock" menu item for the Mail dock icon.

  • How to publish from iweb using snow leopard

    Hi,
Having had my iMac for some 4.5 years I finally have a real reason to use iweb and now can't work out how to publish from it.
I only have a mobile me option come up when I click the publish option. My mobile me account was deactivated some time ago and reactivation is not an option. I can't see any other option for publishing. Is there one or have I missed my chance?
Has anybody faced the same problem and found a solution?
    Thanks,

What version of iWeb are you using?  iWeb 09 or 08?
If using 08, then you'll need to select publish to a local folder and use Cyberduck or FileZilla or Transmit to upload your site to another server.
If using iWeb 09, then select your site name and a drop down menu should appear that has 3 options - publish to MobileMe, publish to ftp and then publish to a local folder.  You either need to select publish to ftp or local folder to upload your site to another sever.  This is what you will need to do anyway come the end of June when MME will be no longer.
    Find a new host now.

  • Snow Leopard and connecting to the Internet

Has anyone had intermittent or constant problems connecting to the internet since upgrading to Snow Leopard? I am trying to find the cause of the problem and I'm not sure if it's the Broadband provider (British Telecom) Faulty wiring (which has never been faulty before) or the fact I've upgraded to Snow Leopard as the problems occurred at the same time. I have had new wiring in the house plus a new router (BT home hub) but still the problems persist. The router switches itself off whenever I'm uploading or downloading any information. It can normally cope with loading web pages or emails, but as soon as the Macbook Pro switches on, it synchronizes with mobile me and that makes the router switch itself off. It does switch on afterwards, but the interruption not only upsets the sync but also the backup of my files. It is most annoying and as this problem started about the same time as I installed Snow Leopard, I'm trying to eliminate any issues to find the real cause. The system preferences refuses to accept a 'manual' setting for sync and the macbook continues to try to sync regardless of my attempt to stop it. So I've been unable to save files to backup with mobileme and sync my devices to iphone. If anyone out there has had the same problems as me, please get in touch. I've run the disk utility and Tech tool Pro but everything is fine according to these applications.

    Similar problems Jane,
I am connecting and losing connection every few minutes. I use diagnostics to reconnect but it only lasts a short while. I have never had trouble before and still don't on my Power Pc and macbook booted in OSX 10.58, but 10.6.1 Snow Leopard will NOT behave. Browsing thru other mac related sites it seems the problem is a common one but have not found a fix yet.
I cannot connect to my Airport it says password invalid even though it is correct. My Airport Extreme Base is the original one (Space Ship Shaped) I wonder if it is no longer supported properly by Snow Leopard, Any ideas would be appreciated since I don't really want to revert to 10.5 but may have to if cannot get a fix.

  • Problem with opening .wmv files in QuickTime since Snow Leopard upgrade

Until upgrading to Snow Leopard any .wmv files would open automatically in QT when double clicked.
I now get an error message which says "QuickTime Player must be installed to run this application".
I can open the file by launching QT(pro) and opening it from within the player - kind of a long way round.
Any suggestions what the fix might be would be gratefully received
    Thanks

    Hi,
try upgrading your Flip4mac plugin to the new Beta version which supports Snow Leopard.
