Iweb movie files storage

I create a page about a year ago that includes an uploaded video.
I now realize I've lost the original file and want to use it elsewhere.
Any clues on how I can get access to the file within the wonderful world of iWeb?
Thanks

iWeb stores all the original assets in the domain.sites2 file. See the Help picture below for its location
Once you found it, right-click the file and choose Show Package content from the context menu.

  • Using an External HD with USB 1.1 for Media (Movie files) storage?

    Many thanks for your attention.
For a Media Storage (mostly movies) HD, I ordered a Maxtor OneTouch II with Firewire and the company mistakenly sent me one with USB 1.1 instead.
I remember reading that for Media Storage, only the Firwire connection will work (for Macs). Or that there are a lot of problems with USB.
Before sending this HD back to company, just checking to see if this is so.
Also (when I get the correct Drive), I've heard that in order to store a Movie File, (a movie on Final Cut Pro or iMovie, etc.), the External Hard Drive MUST be formatted as a "Mac Extended (Journaled)" Hard Drive.
Posting here for people's thoughts, opinions (hopefully not contradictory).

    Send it back.
Even USB 2.0 isn't good for media. Fast transfer rate, but not a sustained one.
USB 1 won't work AT ALL.

  • Publishing iweb in file storage and sharing service?

I am not very versed in creating webpages. I need to upload the iweb website that I made to my school's "file storage and sharing service" otherwise known as CITES Netfiles. I know that somehow I upload my iweb html files SOMEWHERE on this thing and it will show up as my website but i cant seem to figure it out and the the "help" on the phone cant seem to waste their time trying to help me understand. if anybody has any experience with this i would appreciate your help! thanks!

    Welcome to the Forum!
Only the people who setup the Netfiles system will know exactly where you are supposed to upload your files, and also, what your URL is.
I found this support page for the University of Illinois system. You may be using it since you are from Ill. or maybe the page will help you understand the information your tech support people are telling you:
    http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/web-publish.html
I checked the linked page about how to upload files to the system, and it's a little out of the ordinary. Netfiles appears to use a browser based "Upload Manager" as it's "Front End". http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/manage.html#upload
Netfiles does appear to support WebDAV (but not FTP)
    http://www.cites.illinois.edu/netfiles/desktop.html
So you would have to tell iWeb to publish your site to a local folder, then use a program like "CyberDuck", "Transmit" or a program named "Goliath" to upload the site folder that's inside the folder that iWeb created. Special features like blogs and RSS feeds will probably not work with a server like this, although there are ways to link other blog services to your site.
Programs like Dreamweaver support uploading directly to a WebDAV server, but iWeb does not make those settings available, yet.

  • Seeking discussions of long- term movie file storage

I am approaching a TB of VHS & 8mm movies imported into iMovie HD 6 and iMovie11. Most are in .av format. Many are over 20GB in size. I do not want to keep my RAID drive system filled just with these files, but even double-layer DVDs aren't big enough.
What are the "permanent" storage options? Ideally I would want these files readable by both Mac OS and Windows. Yes, I would make multiple backup copies.
Also, are there not-just-Mac websites that discuss in depth video archiving and storage?

Great question. I think the issue of backup is a important one, and one I always worry about since I have a lot of video footage that is irreplaceable.
For back-up, it is helpful to define the risk you are trying to protect from.
    For example,
    1) risk of corruption in iMovie --> I  use Time Machine
    2) risk of hard drive failure --> I use SuperDuper! nightly for bootable backup) and Time Machine all the time
    3) Risk of theft or fire --> offsite backup
    Here is what I do...
    1) I back up my boot disk with SuperDuper automatically to alternate external partitions every other night so I always have two bootable systems. One is less than one day old, and one is less than two days old.
    2) I back up my original video files. For my Motion JPEG, VHS-->AIC, DV, and 8MM to DV, the EVENT is the copy I back up. For my AVCHD high def video, I back up the archive of the AVCHD, but I am not currently backing up the Event files, because I would need from 4 to 8 TB to back up these events depending on whether I made one copy or two.
    3) I use CrashPlan for my offsite backup. It costs less than $4 per month, and I seeded the initial backup to an external drive to minimize having to transfer video files over the Internet. I currently have 1.5TB of data backed up to CrashPlan, which includes my entire boot drive, and the files described in #2.
    4) All of the above is automated, so I don't have to think about it too much. If I have to manually do stuff, I tend to get behind.
You have to consider the value of total multiple redundancy vs. the likelihood that 2 or three unlikely events would all happen at once. For example, CrashPlan could lose my data. My hard disk could fail. I could lose everything in a fire. But it is unlikely that they would all happen at once, except in nuclear war, in which case, who cares?

  • Does iWeb support .wmv movie files?

Ok guys i'm fairly new to the iWeb.
I have a basic qustion that I dont seem to be able to find the answer for on any help links within the application or Quicktime for that matter as it always revert you back to saving you movie files as QuickTime .mov files.
Is there a way you can import .wmv movie files so that our friendly PC user's can view without having to download QuickTime for PC.
    Thanks for youe help.
    Neil

iWeb writes page code that calls the QuickTime browser plug-in.
QuickTime on a PC can't open WMP formats.
All you can do is use "link to file" to upload your .wmv file.

  • Converting .mov files for storage

I am recording 10-15 min .mov files, and each is around 3 GB. I was wondering if there was a way to compress the files (like a .zip or something) that will create a smaller file for storage but not diminish either video or audio quality for playback, or editing. We will be using this files for research on infant cognition. Sorry if this is a stupid question, I am learning as I go...

Compression always loses data but compressing to H264 with a suitably high bitrate will leave you with a quite high quality video scalable to full screen. I assume these are DV files based on size. You won't have the same quality so use an external hard drive and keep them as is or since they must be DV export from iMovie or Final Cut to a DV tape in a DV camera, an hour stored is identical to the source and at $5 a tape darn cheap storage.

  • IWeb: MP3 podcasts downloading as .MOV files

I recently added new podcasts to my website, and for some reason, the new podcasts are downloading as an MOV file instead of MP3, which is how they were uploaded. Previous podcasts are still downloading properly.
I even made sure to use the "Duplicate" function, so I used the exact same code from the previously created podcast entries. Any thoughts? Is this a problem created by the MobileMe migration?

That has been a problem for quite a while now. The same goes for mp3 audio files. This thread discusses it: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7448436&#7448436.

  • QuickTime Movie File-Uploads on iWeb but no playback on the internet

    Hello, Forum Techies,
Always trying to go beyond and want a movie clip on my website,  but I may have met my match
I have the following QuickTime Movie file uploaded to the web page as noted below.
The file extension is MVI_038-#3-13. The file size is 663.8 Mbs
The website space is 1 GB using 10 Mbs upload speed.
The movie clip does not play on the website.
Question arising: I believe the space is sufficient on the website, but not sure if it this is a internet speed issue? I have other movies mounted successfully on another website, but their file size is not a huge and the webspace is not as much.
Therefore, I am curious to know if it is an internet speed issue?
Here is the URL for the page that I have included the movie clip:
    http://thebigbenmemorialtrail.ca/Backgrounder_Trail_Scouting.html
It's a well visited site internationally and because it is a major project in our County, documenting the construction of a new trail is an interesting feature to include on this website.
Hope there is a solution. And, YouTube is not an alternative because for some strange reason I cannot get signed on no matter what efforts have been made with Google and I am not able to find a channel that applies to this kind of a movie, which is not entertainment, musical, etc. It's an information-based movie.
    Thanks!

    This is the movie :
    http://thebigbenmemorialtrail.ca/Media/MVI_0368-%233-13.MOV
It's not an extension, it's the filename. Sanatize it.
    Size = 632MB (Megabyte)
    663.8Mbs = Megabits per seconds = speed
    Videosize = 1280 x 720px
Filesize after download = 10.3MB (download stops at this size)
    Nobody will wait for this.
Resize you movie to something smaller ie. width x height = smaller filesize.
    Use common sense.

  • .mov file does not display on the web-site

iWeb is easy to use but my simply link to a .mov file does not work. I am working on the Domain file on my Desktop so I can move it between computers, and it renames the media file in the inspector from name.mov to name-1.mov. In the end the site does not display the animation.

Are you linking to this file so that it can be downloaded from your website?

  • Can you move files back and forth between an iPad and a PC using iTunes?

If I read this article correctly, http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4094 I should be able to connect my iPad to my PC, fire up iTunes and then on the Apps tab in iTunes I should be able to click on an app, Pages for example and then just drag files onto the Pages Documents column from a Windows Explorer window.
This is great.  I was hoping to use DropBox but it is such a hassle I don't know why people are so thrilled with DropBox on iPad.  If I can just move files back and forth using iTunes that should be fairly easy.  I wish there was a way to just upload my files to iCloud from my PC but the iCloud control panel app for Windows only seems to connect Outlook, Photostream and Bookmarks. I want to be able to just carry my iPad and not have to deal with a computer.
I thought that they said that you didn't need to have a computer to have an iPad.  I guess if you have a computer and then GET an iPad its a different story, unless you have a Mac of course.
Anyway my question is: can you move files back and forth between a PC and an iPad using just iTunes?

I still need to do some trial and error testing with DropBox and my iPad.  But can I link my iPad to my DropBox account so that I can always see the files on DropBox when I open Pages on my iPad?  I just want one place to store my documents, and iCloud doesn't seem to be up to the task when it comes to opening a fil;e, editing it and then saving it back to iCloud.  I just want a networked storage location that works like a networked drive on my LAN.
I realize that hollywood and the music industry are up in arms about file sharing on the Cloud which is why so many things are made more difficult than they need to be.

  • What is the best way to move files to different folders in a plug-in?

I am writing a plug-in that needs to move files on the hard drive.  I am using LrFileUtils.move(from, to) and everything is fine except that the catalog is not updated when the file is moved.  After the plug-in runs I can use Library > Synchronize Folder to get the catalog back in sync with the new locations of the photos on the drive, but this manual step is less than ideal.
I am unable to find a way to move the files within the plug in that also updates the catalog (like dragging photos to a new location within the LR Navigator pane).  Lacking an API for this, I looked for a way to programmatic execute the Synchronize Folder menu item, but was not able to find this either..
Can anyone recommend a better way to move photos to different folders within a plug-in that also updates the catalog?

    Hi Andy,
There are 3 main file formats that you can consider writing your data out to in LabVIEW:
    ASCII
    Binary
    Datalog
    ASCII
ASCII files are useful because every operating system and almost every application can read/write ASCII format files. Use ASCII files when:
Other users or applications will need to access the data file.
You will not need to perform random access file I/O
File I/O speed is not crucial
    Disk space is not crucial
Examples within LabVIEW Example Finder: Fundamentals >> File Input and Output >> Write to Text File.vi and Read from Text File.vi
    Binary
Binary byte stream files are more specific to data storage and retrieval. Use b
    inary files when:
File I/O will remain in LabVIEW only -- no other applications will be needing to write/read that file. There is no standard formatting for binary files and thus other applications or operating systems may be unable to read the file.
Files are smaller than ASCII files
Easier and faster random access to data
Examples within LabVIEW Example Finder: Fundamentals >> File Input and Output >> Write Binary File.vi and Read Binary File.vi
    Datalog
    When to use datalog:
If you need to record data with a mixture of types, it can be cumbersome to convert everything to ASCII or to keep track of the binary formatting.
Datalog format is binary and internal to LabVIEW, so again only use this format if no other applications or operating systems will be needing to perform file I/O on the file.
Examples within LabVIEW Example Finder: Fundamentals >> File Input and Output >> Write Datalog File
Example.vi and Read Datalog File Example.vi
    Good luck!

    hello,
I'm a NAPP member and had been following the photoshop TV casts on QT....however, now I get the error message 'error - 2048 not a valid movie file'...its an mpeg4 QT file, but I get the message whenever I attempt to play the downloaded file...or when I try to just watch the stream, it won't open the URL...these are the only movies that I'm having this problem with...as I can watch other movies from other sites w/o incident...NAPP hasn't replied to my inquiries except that they don't support the TV shows.
    Any ideas?...would be appreciated...

  • Is it possible to move files from corrupted sectors hard drive to a replacement one?

My 2011 macbook pro was recently diagnosed with bad sectors. I am looking to get a replacement hard drive, probably a  750 or 1 tb Seagate SATA. Do you think that is sufficient? I do not play games or do anything memory intensive. The most I do is watch a lot of movies.
Also, is it possible to move files from a corrupted sectors hard drive to the replacement? If so, how would I go about doing this?
Also, for the operating system, it is probably wrong, and can't check since my Mac pro won't get past half way on the start up loading screen.

Try a sector copy with CCC and enable using checksum file copy to insure integrity.
Then Data Rescue 4 - try demo before buying
Do a full erase of a drive before reusing.
Invest in SoftRAID.com going forward as it "looks for" weak sectors, alerts.
Also Google around but SMART Utility has been mentioned as an excellent program/utility -
When a drive has used any of its spare blocks from when it ships is #1 indicator of being time to replace.
And of course always have multiple backup sets, methods and know how to use and restore from. Even do a practice set. I would not use just TimeMachine for instance.
And for some, only a mirror array (minimum two but really consider three drive mirror, with stripe reads to improve performance) can allow pulling one, add a new member and still have a two drive mirror.
Cloud storage for backup. With OneDrive and Facebook backing up all the photos on all your devices, Macs and PCs as well as tablets and phones, you can have 100-200GB quite easily. And there is Google Drive and Amazon as well as others.
A new data drive, a drive to do all  the recovery of files that were on the failed drive(s), and probably a clean system drive and use that as you recover and build your system back up.

  • How do i move files from pc to icloud?

I have 2 questions, first of all how do I move files from my PC to icloud?  Secondly how do I access icloud from my PC so I can view and grab files in case I need them?  I have about 7 GB of photos and videos from my iphone4 that I want to move to icloud and I just bought 100GB of icloud storage so I can store stuff on the cloud.  I am sorry for the newbie question.

What is it then? How and what exactly do i use it for? My i pad says there is not enough storage available so i have purchased more in i cloud. I now want to save some TV programmes and films to i cloud to free up some space but don't know how to... When you are told there is not enough space to download you are prompted to go to settings and to purchase more storage - so it is not unreasonable to assume that this will solve the problem - or am I missing something here? Or is this just a way for apple to get money out of me?
If this is not what it is meant for then what is it meant for? Is it just space to back up files to? If so then surely what i need is stored there - so i can delete the TV programmes from my i pad and grab them from i cloud later?
    Am rather perplexed...
