IWeb movie format to play on both Windows and Mac?

A friend of mine said that they couldn't view the movie I uploaded.
I have Virtual PC 7, and also couldn't view it.
I installed Quicktime on the Virtual PC and though I could now download and play the movie, (with audio that went in and out), it still wouldn't play on my site in Explorer's browser window.
In the Explorer browser on my site, Quicktime started to load, and then the big blue Q logo faded to light blue with a grey question mark in the middle.
I am looking for a format that I can post my movie in that will be viewable in the browser by both Windows and Mac.
I haven't tested mpeg-4 yet although I've read that it is compatible because I can't get a version that even looks decent before I upload.
Are there any other options?
Any suggestions are appreciated.

Also, strangely, (there are two movies on my iWeb
site on two pages), one of them shows the QT window
with the first frame already visible, the other one
has the Q blue logo, and doesn't display a frame
until the whole movie loads.
This may be a difference in the way you encoded the movies. For quick and dirty (and not too involved) preparation of video clips for the web, I really enjoy using a little program that Kyn Drake recommended to me called iSquint ( http://www.isquint.org ). All you do is drag and drop your movie files to the window, then select the quality setting, and then click GO.
The movie formats that iSquint puts out have all worked great in iWeb....no waiting for the whole movie to download, always shows a frame of the movie while downloading, and easy MPEG-4 conversion (you can also use H.264 if you want).

Yes you can. OS X version 10.6.6 and later can read/write exFAT. Windows XP SP3 and later can read/write exFAT. As posted by Radiation Mac, you can do it from Windows or from OS X.
However, I've noticed Windows to be somewhat picky about drives formatted on a Mac. So, if Windows can't read it, try formatting it on the Windows machine, and see how it works on the Mac.

  • How to export for both windows and mac users

I'm new to the video stuff, so i have a few questions. i am planning to post videos on my blog. I want to have them in a format that both windows and mac users can play. is this a possibility or will i have to export .wmv for windows and quicktime for mac? i realize that windows users can download quicktime, but i either want the video to be viewable in a format that can be read by all without having to download anything (might be too big a wish :o) ). if i can't do that, then i'd like to have 2 links - one for quicktime and one to the .wmv. in this case, how to i export a .wmv file? i don't see that option anywhere on the share menu? do i need to buy quicktime pro? that leads me to another questions - if i have imovie, do i need quicktime pro? so far i'm having a hard time figuring out what quicktime pro has that imovie doesn't....thanks in advance!

Posting to YouTube and providing a URL link might be the most universal method of playback although quality may be on the weak side.
if i can't do that, then i'd like to have 2 links - one for quicktime and one to the .wmv. in this case, how to i export a .wmv file?
WMV is a proprietary compression format. You will either have to purchase the authorized QT components from Flip4Mac or purchase a separate open source converter application like Visual Hub.
i don't see that option anywhere on the share menu?
Any you won't even if you purchase and install the QT component -- iMovie '08 only exports to QT compression formats.
do i need to buy quicktime pro?
It wouldn't help. Getting QT Pro only unlocks editing and conversion features. It does not add any additional codecs which don't already have installed.
if i have imovie, do i need quicktime pro? so far i'm having a hard time figuring out what quicktime pro has that imovie doesn't.
As indicated above, QT Pro allows you to convert to/from any compression formats for which you have working import/export QT components. This can already be be done using GarageBand and iMovie. GarageBand allows you to access any installed QT import/export component while iMovie '08 restricts you to Apple QT components. In addition, QT Pro allows you to create player displays with multiple audio/video tracks, gives you ability to layer graphic elements (e.g, create watermarks, create pictures-within-pictures, etc,), allow the viewer to switch between alternate audio and/or video tracks, and may other things.
ADDED: If you really want to see what QT Pro can do, check out QTKirk's examples on his DotMac account.

  • I bought Photoshop Elements 12, and I saw that it comes with a Windows and a Mac DVD. How many installations do I get from each disc (I have both Windows and Mac machines)?

    Please reply ASAP

You can activate the software on a maximum of two computers at the same time.
Your serial number works on both Windows and Mac.
Your choice on how you mix and match the activations: Win/Win or Mac/Mac or Win/Mac.

  • With Creative Cloud are you able to download apps to both Windows and Mac?

I'm not sure whether on 1 subscription you can download to Windows and Mac, or whether you have to buy Creative Cloud for each of these individually??
    Thanks.

    The short answer is yes.
With one membership you can install and activate Cloud apps on up to two computers: either Win/Win, Mac/mac or Win/Mac.

  • How can i format an external drive to be used for both windows and mac

i recently bought a macbook pro and used bootcamo so as to be able to run win7 and mac. I now wish to have an external usb drive so as to backup and tranfer files between the two os's. How can I do this?

    Firstly,
There is a forum for MacBook Pro - not this. And for Boot Camp.
    You can:
add Paragon HFS driver to Windows which works
add Paragon NTFS for Mac OS X
USB is of course slow and while people use it for backups and TimeMachine, that is one place where FW800, eSATA or USB3 would be better served.

  • External hard drive for both windows and mac

hello, all - just bought a western digital 500gb my book premium edition external hard drive. will be using for both pc and macbook, not necessarily to share files (though i may on occasion), but rather as a backup. been researching the discussion boards and concluded that i should use it as pre-formatted fat32. few questions...
    1) if i do use to share files, from what i understand i will be able to read windows files with my mac but i can't read mac files with windows (unless i have macdrive installed). is this correct?
    2) since mac can read/write to fat 32, is it necessary to partition the drives and keep the files separated? i talked to a "computer guy" earlier today and he said i should consider having two completely separate external hard drives as having files from two different operating systems on the same drive could cause major problems for both... i didn't really believe him.
    3) i have seen different posts stating using fat32 format for mac limits file size to 4gb. another post said 32gb. which is right? i have os is 10.4.7 if that makes a difference.
thanks in advance for any insight.

2 - i don't mind partitioning at all. but he strongly suggested not even partitioning but using two completely separate hard drives. yeah, the 500gb was a bit overkill, so if i can use it for both as opposed to one and buying an additional, i'd rather.
2/3 - if i partition, is it best to divide it into ntfs and hfs+? or should i keep the pc portion fat32? if the mac portion is hfs+, can i store any size file? i have videos that are anywhere from 10-20gb, and i'd like to get them off my computer and into the external drive.
    thanks.

  • Load on both Windows and Mac

I currently have my CS5.5 loaded on two windows laptops.  I am replacing one of those laptops with a MacBook Pro.  Can I deactivate the CS5.5 on the my old Windows laptop and activate a Mac version on the MacBook Pro?  Or do they both activations have to be on the same platform?

With Creative Suite, you didn't buy a license to run it on both Macintosh and Windows platforms. (If you have a Creative Cloud subscription, you can run on both platforms.)
You can request a change of license, but only between platforms:

  • Since yesterday morning Firefox can not load Facebook. Every other browser works fine. Tried many computers, both Windows and Macs, same issue. Help!

Facebook loads fine on multiple PCs and Macs in any number of browsers but NOT with Firefox on any of them. Started Friday AM. It tries to load but takes FOREVER and never gets "up". Frustrating since FF is my browser of choice despite the fact it has recently become the slowest of all the browsers I've tried. Be nothing like THIS slow. Other sites seem to be unaffected, just Facebook.

What you describe look like a problem of infection, for me.
I have W7 and FF34 as you, and FF is faster than Chromium.
So, except a problem of corruption of the code of your Firefox (and maybe problems generated by some addons or plugins), I' rather believe that there is malware(s) on your computer.
For FB, it could be the adware pushow**.dll, like pushow35.dll, in c:\windows\system32
What security programs do you use on your computer ?
If you want, you could also try to start Firefox in "safe mode", to see if there is a difference of speed and on FB.

  • Using both Windows and Mac laptop

After I sign up the Creative Cloud membership, can I use the system from my windows laptop and mac laptop?  As sometimes I work on windows laptop and sometimes I work on mac laptop.

Hi Ned, thanks for the information.
What is I have my windows laptop replace in 1 month, can I use it on the new windows laptop?  I just need to uninstall on my old windows laptop and reinstall on my new windows laptop?

  • My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried other computers both windows and mac on the same line and speeds are normal. What is the problem?

My macbook internet download speed is extremely slow. I have tried 2 other computers, another mac and windows and the download speed is over 10mb but with this macbook pro it is less than 1mb. What is causing this and how to fix?

To find out how much space you have & what is left, open up Disk Utility/Machintosh HD/First Aid.  The info will be at the bottom of the window.
Sluggish Finder - Bunch of icons on your desktop?  An overcrowded desktop slows down your Mac.
Get rid of needless Finder calculations - Open a window in Finder/View/Show View Options:  ensure "Calculate All Sizes" option is unchecked.
Internet related - It's likely that your broadband connection is the bottleneck.  You can check your speed on http://www.speedtest.net to see how fast your connection is.  If your web browser specifically performs slowly, quit and relaunch it.
If browser remains sluggish, empty its cache.
    Safari/Empty Cache
Firefox/Preferences - select the Network tab of the Advanced preferences and click the "Clear Now" button in the "Offline Storage" area.
Application related - Launch "Activity Monitor" - Applications/Utilities - click the CPU heading and see what float to the top.  If an application takes up a large chunk of CPU and won't let it go, it could be dragging down your Mac's performance.  Quit it by clicking the Quit Process button at the top of the Activity Monitor window.
Too little ram - max out your ram.
Solution may be found if you search in the "More Like This" section over in the right column.

  • Want to use iPod on both Windows and Mac What is going on?

I had a iPod mini and we have a 1st gen Nano and 2 2nd gen Nano's and all worked fine when I formatted them on the Windows PC and then plugged into the Mac. My mini died so I now have a 4th gen Nano. Works fine on the Windows PC. When I plug it into the Mac, it started up iTunes fine like it should. Tried to copy one song and it ejected the iPod. It will not recognize it in iTunes or even on the desktop. The Nano charges being plugged in, but it is like it is plugged into the standard wall charger. I would like to get it working with both machines like all the others that I have. It did update to the latest 1.0.3 PC firmware.
