IWeb & .mpg movies HELPPPPPP!!!!

We are creating an iWeb site. I've got nearly everything working. I'm from an IBM/MS world but loving Apple until the last two days. Have spent nearly 10 hours trying to figure out how to do this, including reading most posts and product help pages. Have increased my knowledge on Apple products, thus I do not feel the entire time was wasted. We are supposed to launch the business site tomorrow. Found a workaround but not in love with it. My MacBook Pro has the latest of all software. I am trying to add a .mpg video to the website. I can view the file from Finder with no problem. I can view it while creating the iWeb, no problem. I have put the file in MobileMe Gallery. I have imported it to iMovie and iPhoto. I have dragged and dropped the file - heck, that method works for everything else. Once I publish the website, it is not viewable - can only see the single frame as a still picture. If I use iPhoto to send to iWeb, I can play it on my MacBook but cannot see it on my Dell without adding QuickTime (not all of my customers will want to do this). My workaround is to create a link to the .mpg file. My IBM-world test machines can view the video from the website by just clicking it - Windows Media Player automatically opens and plays. I cannot see the linked file in the Apple world; as with other errors, the QuickTime Player logo is displayed, no pixs, no movie. What am I doing wrong? My workaround is to have it available BOTH ways (iPhoto send to iWeb and hyperlink for MS users) but I would prefer a cleaner use. Any suggestions? thanks!

What's the URL of your site so we can examine it first hand?
Happy Holidays

MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert MPG (multiplexed MPEG-1) files. As to resolution, you can re-scale the files during the conversion process but it merely increases the conversion time without improving quality. iMovie "08 automatically re-scales project files for display/export.

  • .mpg movies mount S L O W L Y ...why?

Here's a question I've wanted to ask for what seems like years.
When I attempt to open a Quicktime .mpg movie (either mpeg-1 or mpeg-2), from CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, or the hard drive, the drive spins up, then slows...and the movie takes FOR-EVER to mount...the bigger the movie, the longer the wait.
    Why is this?

  • Sound for MPG movies

I can't seem to hear sound from MPG movies from my Quicktime player and I can't hear sound from YouTube as well, anybody can help me? thx

There are a couple of things that can cause this issue. The problem could be related to a corrupted QuickTime installation. OR the issue could be caused by trying to play a movie for which you don't have the proper audio or video codec.
Open the movie in a QuickTime player. From the Window menu, you can view the movie info. Look at the info and determine what audio codec is used for the soundtrack. Out of the box, the codecs that QuickTime 7 supports can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/pro/specs.html
If you find the movie is encoded with a codec not supported by QuickTime, you can Google search for that particular component, and install it.
To get movies to play in You Tube, you need to download the latest Macromedia Flash player.

  • How can I stop the iWeb welcome movie from appearing

How can I stop the iWeb welcome movie from appearing every time iWeb starts up?
Oh yes and now that we are talking: when I plug in my ipod, I want iTunes to start, not iPhoto.
    Who knows these tricks?

iPhoto seems to be viewing the iPod as a camera.  Therefore go to iPhoto's General preference pane and select No application in the Connecting camera opens: menu.

Believe it or not, I've been having this same problem since I bought my Imac G5 a few years ago. It just happened to my MacBook Pro, as well. Along with the fact that mpg audio is gone, so is flash audio. It seems to happen every so often, usually after one of my computers hang while loading a preview for a flash movie. The problem actually seems to correct itself after a few restarts, or loading of some programs.
In the process of writing this post, I regained support for mpg audio, and flash audio - and in quicktime player for that matter. When I started writing this, it didn't work. I dunno, quicktime is weird that way. The longest time I was without flash or mpg audio was for a period of 3 weeks. After which, it somehow was magically there again. I wish that wouldn't happen, as it usually happens at the most inconvenient times. The whole way flash is not supported through newer versions is rather irritating as well isn't it? Use SAFlash player for mac for those if you can: http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • MPG movies & background

We have hundreds of movies for our website, each one is viewable only by clicking on the individual file, which is MPG.  Each movie opens in a new window and displays a white background.  Is it possible to have all of the MPG movie files have a custom background color?  Not sure if possible?
    thank you for any help!

Ignore post #5. I tried to fix it but the forums went down and now I cannot edit it...
okay. Here's some experience in 3 easy steps...
Create a new PHP file for your site. Save it as "play.php". Design it any way you want. Make a background, add menus, graphics, whatever. Drag the QuickTime element into the page and link the video file it should play as "mymovie.mpg".
Now go into source view and change any instance (at least two places) of "mymovie.mpg" to "<?php echo $_GET[movie]; ?>"
Now go to every video link you have in your site and change the link from something like http://www.mysite.com/video1.mpg to http://www.mysite.com/play.php?movie=video1.mpg This could be done on thousands of files with a global find/change from http://www.mysite.com/ to http://www.mysite.com/play.php?movie=
(be careful that you are only changing the URL for video links; a general find/change of http://www.mysite.com/ on all links to something else will blow up your site)
A PHP file is no different than a regular web page... except that you can add PHP tags. The only PHP tag that you are adding is <?php echo $_GET[movie]; ?>
This PHP takes the movie variable passed in the URL /play.php?movie=video1.mpg and inserts it into your HTML.

  • Mpg movies stops every 7 seconds

Recently, every time I try to play an mpg movie on QuickTime, the movie stops every 7 seconds approx.
This started not long ago, and before that, all mpg movies played perfectly. I'm not aware of having made any changes in the QuickTime preferences or any other QuickTime feature. Is this a problem of the player or of the movies I have?
I already re-installed QuickTime, but the problem is still there.

Use MPEG Streamclip (free) to repair the broken time
    code in the .mpg file.
Ok guys, thanks. The files didn't seem to have any broken timecode, so the app didn't make any changes to the files, but I exported the video to QuickTime and that solved the problem -although it took forever-.
Is there any faster way to do it? Anyway, it helped a lot to know about the Streamclip app. Thank you again.

  • HT3775 Unable to open MPG Movies

I have 10.8.1 version and unable to open mpg movies.  It states I need a required codec isn't available.  Not able to find it.  Please advise.

You'd need a converter (if this is not a commercial app - if so, copyright and DRM issues may be at work); you can try MPEG Streamclip - see if your format is mentioned. Otherwise, you can try VLC (a free player that'll play most any format).

  • Importing QuickTime, WMV, and MPG movies

Is it possible to import QuickTime, WMV, or MPG movies into
Captivate? Or can Captivate only import FLV movies.

    Hi again
I've personally not encountered a need for converting.
However, on her blog, Silke Fleischer (Former Adobe Captivate
Product Manager) talks about a converter that may be recommended.
It's called SoThink Video Converter and you may examine or order it
    by visiting the site.

  • Playing mpg movies

What can I do to enable my iPad to play mpg movies that I took with my camera?

You should just be able to import those movies, via iTunes, onto your iPad (sync them on) and then play them.
So get the files onto your computer. Then import them into iTunes, then connect your iPad, navigate to the movie tab, choose those videos then sync.

  • MPG Movies

Is there a way to get an MPG movie into iMovie??

I am a novice and just want to edit my videos (.mpg, mpeg, avi) in imovie. imovie does not recognize these files, which I transferred from my pc. I downloaded streamclip, but all you can do is view a video.
MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert MPEG-1 (MPG extension on a Mac) as installed but requires the QT MPEG-2 Playback component ($20) be installed for conversion of MPEG-2 content. Like the MOV file container, AVI is compatible with iMovie '08 as long as the compression formats are edit compatible. (I.e., an M-JPEG/Unsigned Integer AVI will import but an M-JPEG/DVI ADPCM file will not.) Once again, MPEG Streamclip will convert these files if you have the correct codec components installed for QT (which Streamclip uses for conversions). This means that if you have WMV encoded content in an AVI file you have to have the WMV decoder. If you have DivX content in an AVI, you must have the DivX decoder (or the Perian codec package) installed. However be advised that not all codecs used in AVI files in Windows are available for the Mac since "official" support of this is container was dropped a decade ago by its originator. And of those ported over for Mac use, some only work under OS9 while others have not been recompiled for use on Intel based machines.
Other applications which can be used for conversion include iSquint (free for MPEG-1/2 conversion to MPEG4/AAC or H.264/AAC), FFmpegX (donation-ware), Visual Hub (pay-ware), and several others capable of exporting to DV, AIC, M-JPEG, Photo-JPEG, MPEG4, H.264, etc. Avoid Apple Animation and Apple Video as these compression formates wil import and edit but only export with a "black" screen at this time.
