Iweb Music Size

Does any one know if there is a music file size limit? I want to put music on my site like a radio station. I put together some tracks with voice overs in garage band.and exported to itunes. I don't want it to be podcast because this is a private site and I want the music to autoplay when they enter site. When I published site the music didn't start. It is a MPEG4 the size is 71.5 MB is there a way to convert it to a smaller format or do I need to start over a not have so many tracks?
Please help.
Mark

Hi magicmark!
I would disagree with Roddy re: MPEG4...
MPEG4 is MPEG4 - it is not Flash or QuickTime - it is an open standard. If your file is in MPEG4 then the user's MIME settings will determine what plug-in handles this format.
However you can put MPEG4 in a wrapper - such as QuickTime - or Flash; and then your options expand.
QuickTime offers the progressive download capability (Fast Start). Your file if exported as a QT movie will have a ".mov" extension. If you use this capability wisely it makes no difference how big your file size is - your data rate simply must not exceed your targeted audience's bandwidth. Possibly Flash 10 has the same options.
So if your data rate is 256 Kb/s (reasonable for 16-bit stereo @ 44.1 KHz, hi quality compression) it will easily "stream" for users with a 384 Kb/s connection.
You can set "autoplay" in the QT inspector in iWeb.

  • IWeb Image Size

    Hello Apple Friends,
What's the easiest way to get iWeb images down to a reasonable size? The PNGs are just too big as they're created automatically. Is there a setting I can adjust somewhere? I hope I don't have to go in and manually shrink each image file with Photoshop of something.
    Thanks for your help,
    Steve

Well for your already published images, you might want to take a look at PNG Crusher: http://www.amake.us/software/pngcrusher/
You are supposed to use this directly on your published files, so just be aware of that.
Going forward with your new pages and what not, the best thing to do would be to minimize the opportunities for iWeb to convert your jpg images to png. You do this by avoiding resizing the image inside iWeb (either smaller or bigger) and avoiding the special effects like drop shadows, rotation, reflections, frames, etc. At the very least, use iPhoto to size your photos down from their original full resolution size. Know that standard iWeb pages are only 700px wide, so that is as big as you need. For slideshows, iWeb would size everything to 800x600, so keep that in mind.

  • IWeb "Original Size" download option? -- Not Even Close!

Unless I'm doing something very wrong -- which I sincerely hope is the case -- then iWeb's photo prefs are guilty of seriously false advertising.
I'm trying to create a "My Albums" page, such that the photos in the various albums it indexes can be downloaded FULL SIZE (in the same way that full res images can be downloaded from a MobileMe Gallery, provided the "Allow Downloading of Actual Size Images" option was selected when the Gallery was published).
So in iWeb, I made sure to deselect the "Optimize Images on Import" General Prefs option, before dragging in Aperture Projects and Albums from the Media Browser's Photos tab to create the new iWeb albums, and then made sure to select "Original (Full Quality)" as the Photo Sharing option for each album page in the Inspector’s Photos tab.
After publishing to my MobileMe account, I then visited the new site and did some test downloading, only to find that even with the above settings, the images which downloaded to my hard drive were still a much smaller pixel size than the originals. After a couple more tests, it appears the largest size download I can get from a picture in an iWeb photo album is 1280 pixels in either direction, whereas from a MobileMe Gallery I get the same pixel dimension as the original (so long as that aforementioned "Allow Downloading of Actual Size Images" option was selected).
So what's the deal here? Does iWeb have yet another "Don't shrink-it-just-leave-it-alone" option vis-a-vis photos and their downloadability which I missed?
Or does this "Original (Full Quality)" Photo Download Size option nevertheless impose a 1280-pixel upper limit? And if so, then WHY? I'm a big boy, I can decide how much of my allotted account space I want taken up with non-Optimized photos -- at least I SHOULD be able to decide that.
Any pointers as to how to overcome this arbitrary 1280-pixel download limit would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    John Bertram

I guess the answer is no.
A website is for viewing stuff online.
If you want people to be able to download them full size, put them in a folder, ZIP it and create a download link.
You would be best to create a download page(s) for this as, if you put the download files on the photo page it would take forever to download in the browser.
Thanks for the note -- though I'm going to respectfully disagree on the basic premise it presents: that a photo viewing site, and a photo sharing/downloading site, cannot co-exist.
It's a topic I've gone into at length in a new Aperture thread, posted at
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1996786&tstart=0
In the meantime, having discovered the cause of this mysterious 1280-pixel limitation (see next post, below), I was pleased to see that including "unoptimized" images in my iWeb Photo Pages, and allowing them to be downloaded at their full pixel size, did NOT in fact slow down the actual loading or displaying of those same pages -- at least not to any appreciable degree. Which makes sense, since what iWeb is presenting to the end user are its own thumbs and individual previews -- regardless of what size downloads I've enabled in my photo sharing settings for that page. So the individual images display just as quickly.
The only thing that does take a little longer of course is when I initially publish or update my iWeb pages, and the larger, unoptimized images are uploaded to my MobileMe account. Likewise the individual downloading (not the online displaying, just the actual downloading if the user chooses to do so) of selected images -- since a 4MB jpg obviously takes a bit more time to copy to your hard drive than a smaller, 1MB version of the same image.
But the difference is negligible, and like I say, it doesn't seem to affect the preview-size displaying of the images at all, only the full-size downloading. And since my particular "audience" (the people for whom I'm creating these pages) are typically each only downloading a small handful of individual pics selected from each group of images, that's not a problem.
So the answer to my question:
...can iWeb photo pages be configured to allow downloading of images
at their full, original pixel size?
Is in fact: Yes, absolutely -- and with no apparent detriment to how well the images display online.
    Cheers,

  • IWeb photo size

    Hello,
I am trying to insert a photo gallery onto an "About Me" page. What I've done so far is to copy a photo album from an Album template, and paste it into the About Me page, then drag and drop the photos into it. The problem with this is A: the photo gallery becomes larger than the page, and is therefore cut off (the page won't change it's size to accommodate for the item) and B: the size of the pictures in the Gallery field are too large to fit in the space I want them to. Is there any way to change to the size of the photos/photo gallery field? and how can I make the webpage adjust it's size to fit everything in?
Your help and advice is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks!

There are a lot of applications for resizing photos. I use ImageWell....
    http://xtralean.com/IWOverview.html
Turn off "Optimize images on import" in iWeb preferences.
Increase the page width in the Page inspector Layout window.
A good width for general viewing on the internet is 980 px.

  • IWeb reducing size of photos

I'm a professional photographer and I've been using iWeb as a proof site for my customers. But lately I've noticed that iWeb is reducing the size of photos I upload. I put up some 4MB files yesterday and they were reduced to 700KB for download, even though slideshow was disabled and ORIGINAL was the download option.
If you'd like to see the photos (pr shots for a theatre company) they are at
    http://web.mac.com/moristano/WaterTower/DOUBTPRFinals.html
Many thanks for any help anybody can offer.

Original means the original width and height. Not the filesize.
Or do you want to display a 4MB image just to have a look at it in the browser. I would say the image I downloaded looks fine to me.
If you really want the original original then zip the file(s) in a archives and have these downloaded by your clients.

  • Iweb page sizes?

Why doesnt iweb allow me to change the size of my page. i have gone onto the inspector, clicked on 'layout' and typed in the figures in the 'content height' bar and pressed return but no changes. what has happened?

You need to turn on "Show Layout"  Shift-Command-L  to see the changes.
The quick way to lengthen a page is to drop a text box into the content area and drag downwards...

While we all have MacBooks in this forum not all of us use iWeb. There's a iWeb Support Community where everybody uses iWeb. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.

  • IWeb RSS size

I am currently hosting a blog using iWeb and MobileMe, but I would also like to import my blog into a few social networks. On the social networks I don't want to show the whole blog, but only a piece of it, so that when people want to read it all they need to click through to my site.
Is there a way to limit the amount of content that is put through the RSS feed, so that it will only display part of the blog?

    Hey,
Try selecting the RSS text (to do this, double click the RSS feed widget, then double click the text inside the feed you you want to change), then press Command-T, and select a different font size.

  • Made a tool to reduce iWeb site size

    Hi!
I created a small tool to reduce the size of iWeb sites.
The manual can be found here:
    http://software.bitwaves.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=6
The tool can be downloaded here:
    http://software.bitwaves.de/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownload&cid=5
(Uses java webstart to always give you the latest'n'greatest version)
I don't have iWeb, since I live in germany and have no copy yet. As soon as it arrives I will do some more checking.
In the meantime, please download the tool and send me info on how well it works for you in the forum:
    http://software.bitwaves.de/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewforum&f=6
(Please backup your iWeb sites prior to using this tool on them, it's in beta stage)
    Regards,
    Normen

It does work, to a extent. The navigation bar images dissapeared but the links stayed there. The quality of the jpg pics was decreased too much. Anyway, a great attempt! The only critic I have for iWeb is the inefficient use it makes of files that repeat in more than one page and this program does a good attempt trying to solve it. Let me know when you have v. 2.0

  • Export iPhoto to iWeb photo size

    Hi everyone,
When I try to export from iPhoto to iWeb, the website created only includes lower resolution images. (The original is 10Mpixels, the website only goes up to 800x500.)
Is there a way to get the full resolution images in there?
    Thanks!

Drag/drop the picture you want to add on the area with the other thumbs.

  • IWeb music but no Quicktime???

Hello, so I know how to put music on my page but the only problem is I want it to be hidden and set to autoplay. When I click on the "I" (Inspector) icon I dont see the Quicktime tab to control my music. Anybody know why quicktime is not in there? thanks

iWeb '06 doesn't have a QuickTime inspector. You can do what you want by editing the code post publishing.

  • Iweb page size to avoid have to right left scrolling

What do I do to prevent the left to right scrolling on some monitors so everyone can see the whole web page?

Left to right scrolling only occurs when your site is too large. What is the width of your web pages?
Apple suggest around 980 pixels as the width which fits best in most screens and mobile devices.

  • HELP ! Ipod froze while syncing so I unplugged. Now not showing any music on Ipod or in Itunes but will show the songs in my ipod control

So basicly I was trying to figure out on how to get all my album art back on my 160gb Ipod Classic. It showed in itunes but not on my ipod. My cover flow was full of Question marks. Having 140gb of music ir was fustrating manually putting it back on to each album. This happened a few months ago. So the 5 or 6gb of new music i put on since this happened is on my Ipod and show in my coverflow on my Ipod.
It came to a point where i had to leave my computer and noticed that my ipod was still in a synchnnizing stage and seemed like it was frozen. Having to leave the computer I had to unplug the ipod. By doing so, when i turned it on it said that i had no songs on my Ipod. When plugged into my itunes it also says no songs but at the bottom of the itunes screen it shows there is 140gb of "other Information" with 1.5 gb remaining but not music. I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder. I have had a few different computers since this new ipod has music from ages ago from an old 30gb classic and have transfered over the years on multiple computers (so restoring or syncing to this computer is out of the question). Thus all the ratings and playlist are very dear to me. Hundreds of hours invested in this ipod OVER 6 Years. It seems like there is some file missing or needed to link everything together.
I have spent endless hours trying many diffferent aproches. Like one forum said go into AL'S IPOD>IPOD CONTROL>ITUNES.. when in there they said to look for a file called ITunesDB and another called ITunesD8.old and switch them and rename ITunesD8.old_mlpmp but i only have the ituned DB not the ItunesDB.old
    I also tried
Also when i plug in my ipod a notice in windows says "DO YOU WANT TO SCAN AND FIX E>AL'S IPOD
There might be a problem with some files on this device or disc. This can happen if you
remove the device or disc before all files have been writen to it
                                                                                          SCAN AND FIX (RECOMMENDED)
this will prevent future problems when copying files to this device or disc
                                                                                                               OR
                                                                                                CONTINUE WITHOUT SCANNING
So i figure the problem started when i went into my control panel and chose show all hidden files so i can look at my files in the Ipod_control and was fooling around with the preference area by selecting the read only icon and disabling the hidden icon. I tried reversing this before ejecting my ipod but it was stuck in the Synchronizing do not disconnect mode and would not eject. Everytime i did try to eject it said in itunes with a yellow triangle saying " files or folders are in use in another area and cannot eject" even tho everyting has been closed......
ANY IDEAS ON HOW TO FIX??????? THANKS FOR YOUR TIME

A bit confused by your statement

I can see all the songs in my Edrive>al's Ipod> Ipod Control> Music folder.
A corrupted iPod database, will report zero music used, and have your music size reported as others, so you wont see the music in the iPod screen. Sorry, I thought there was some hope for you with iPodAccess, in recovery of the corrupted iPod database with your ratings.
You can try to borrow and  use the Mac Disk Utility ->First Aid ->Repair.
Of course, if your iPod Hardisk is in a bad state, from the Disk Diagnostic report, then all my suggestion are futile.

  • QTVR Movies won't play properly in iWeb

QuickTime VR panoramic movies won't play properly. Doesn't seem to matter what kind of iWeb page I use. The movies respond normally when opened with QuickTime Player. The seem to fail only when placed into iWeb.
First, there are no VR controls visible. What controls there are don't respond when clicked. Second, the mouse curson doesn't change when moved over the movie placeholder. Third, the only image within the movie placeholder is the first frame.
I tried several QTVR panorama movies with the same result. I also verified that none of the available movie controllers will function. I have already searched on QTVR in this forum and found none of the few suggestions offered to work.
    Any new ideas?

We've recieved your file and got it to work in iWeb. Here's what to do:
As always, place a text box in iWeb the size of the dimentions of your QTVR movie. Put some text in the box something like "QTVRMOVIECODEHERE"
After Publishing your site locate your "QTVRMOVIECODEHERE" text and replace it with
    <embed src="http://URLWhereYourFileis.mov" width="320" height="240"></embed>
Another way you can do it is store the QTVR file on your host. If you are using .mac you can store it in your sites folder or Web folder. From the sites folder the URL for your file would be homepage.mac.com/YourUserName/YourFolder(if any)/YourQTVRMovieName.mov
Then place a hyperlink to your files URL in your iWeb page.
Here is the working QTVR file in an iWeb page:
    http://iWebFAQ.com/QTVR/IniWeb
Or if you'd like you can you can hyperlink to http://iWebFAQ.com/QTVR/twofish.mov
