IWeb Newbie: Blog HTML Question

Hi, I'm relatively new to IWeb and have a question relating to blogs created in Iweb. When I create a new entry for my blog, and try to add a video for youtube (as a link) in place of the default picture, the video does not appear on my main page. I have used the html snippet and see the video on my blog entry page, however it does not appear on my main page. How do I go about including video's in a new blog entry page so I can view them directly from my main (intro) page? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I am using the Modern Frame template for my web site. When I add the blog template, a pre-set template shows up. Is there any way to edit or change it?
no and yes... no, you can't do much of anything while working inside iweb; yes, you can change it by changing the template xml file. Suzanne Boben at 11Mystics.com have done it for years.
For example, I would like to change the hyperlink color from red to blue. It won't let me do that. I go to the hyperlink inspector and I can't choose anything.
outside of changing template xml, this can be done in two ways (beside the above method):
1) post edit the blog CSS file (search my post for blog CSS), this requires post edit and perhaps after every publishing.
2) build your own widget to change the blog CSS and you only need to add the widget once. see my example here: http://www.cyclosaurus.com/Home/CyclosaurusBlog/CyclosaurusBlog.html
the example is done with my widget.
Also, when I view the web site on my computer, it looks fine, however when I view it on my iphone 3GS it shows an old font that I was using, why?

  • IWeb Newbie - blogging!!

    Hi everyone,
just a quick question for my first post....Would you use iWeb as your blogging tool of choice or would you use something else? I have just started a trial with MobileMe and if the blog I plan to write has no problems I may stay with it, but am i wasting my time to begin with?

    Welcome to the discussions, boyceee.
If you ever want to blog when you're not at your main computer, you will find iWeb very limiting. Also, if you need 100% of the internet to view your blog with no issues, you'll have to take into account that most of the internet is using Internet Explorer (of some version or another) and many of them will have problems with your pages. The more complex and visually pleasing, the more problem IE will have.
My answers to the above would be that I only blog from my main laptop and my blog is geared towards those either with a Mac or with access to a Mac (or the vision to be using FireFox or Safari on Windows) so I can get as complex as I want and never have to be concerned with anyone that can't view my site.
There are benefits to blogging with iWeb, but, in my opinion, you should first come up with a list of things that you want to do and that you may want to do over the next year. Look at some other blogs and determine if there's anything out there that you like. Then, once you have a rounded idea of where your future in blogging might lead, go through the checklist and determine if iWeb can do what you may need.

  • IWeb Newbie Question: Removing "Drag Image Here" Placeholder

    Hi,
I'm new to iWeb and creating my website for the first time. I've added an audio file to one of my pages, but I'm not sure how to remove the "Drag Image Here" placeholder from that file in the work area. I realize the placeholder doesn't show up on the actual website if I don't put any image in there, but the placeholder still clutters up the workspace where I'm designing the page.
Is there any way to remove that placeholder?
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.
    Regards,
    Keith

just try this simple method. it will not get rid of the placeholder - but it will hide it a make your iWeb building easier:
    1. from the "forms" button choose a square
    2. make it the background color or the color where the audio is placed, using the inspector!
    3. Using the right-click or Ctrl-Left Mouse Click send the audio file to the very back.
    4. make sure that the navigation bar is still at the very front and nothing covers it - because otherwise you cannot use it!

  • Posterous blog HTML Snippet problem - not all of blog is showing up...

Good morning all! So I was looking for a solution for our newly formed website (I'm a novice) where I could have multiple users update our blog page without having to use iWeb to do it. I read up on Posterous and it appears this would be an ideal solution. So I found some code from another Apple Discussions poster, Alancito, that would pull my Posterous blog directly into the iWeb page I created. Well it has done that, sort of...
I see the header from the blog, but the content isn't visable. Well, actually if you highlight the header or "blog differently" and then hold down like you're scrolling down the page, the info is there. But the HTML snippet always cuts it off. Even if I expand the size of the snippet in iWeb, it ALWAYS reverts back to this same size.
I'm in a bind here and could really use some help.
Here's the blog page address: http://www.sporkfoodwagon.com/SporkFoodWagon/Blog.html
And here's the code I was provided.
    <iframe height="100%" allow transparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" style="width:100%;border=none" src="http://sporkfoodwagon.posterous.com/"></iframe>

Andrew ~ Perhaps someone will suggest a solution to the HTML Snippet problem, but meanwhile, with this recent improvement to Posterous:
    http://blog.posterous.com/posterous-unveils-pages
...perhaps you don't need an iWeb site at all. If you must have one, consider linking to your Posterous blog directly from iWeb's navigation bar:
Create a blank internal page titled "Blog" (actually you can name the page whatever you want.) Then in that Blog page add an HTML Snippet with the following code:
    <script type="text/javascript">
parent.window.location = "http://www.yourblogname.com"; // change this to your own URL
    </script>
...Once published, clicking on "Blog" in the navbar will immediately redirect to your external Blog page. (Thanks to Cyclosaurus for the code).
And to return from Posterous back to your iWeb site:

  • Iweb newbie

I have gone through the tutorials on .mac and have created a weg site for my business. My questions is if I publish it to. mac, do you have to type in tags for search engine. So if someone does a search on yahoo or google will my web site get displayed? If not how does other people find a web site published on .mac. Or will I have to publish my site on .mac as well as a third party?

Here are some more details on how to get your site listed more/better/faster:
    1. Go to http://www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl and submit your URL. Submit both yourdomain.com and http://web.mac.com/yourusername
FYI, if you use forwarding on yourdomain.com, Google will be happier/more likely to index your mac.com addresses. No way around this.
    2. Submit your site (either URL) to http://www.iwebusersites.com
    3. Get other people you know to post links to your site, and you should include your url when you post in bulletin boards/forums, etc. The more places your links are, the more likely Google is to find you.
    4. Add Meta tags to your pages.
    Get MassReplaceIt
    http://www.hexmonkeysoftware.com
Here's a page on how to use it:
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/MRI.html
    Tell it to search for
    </head>
    Replace with
    <meta name="description" content="insert description of your site"><meta name="keywords" content="keywords for your site separated by commas"></head>
    5. This is a big one: Check the text on your page - perhaps it is being converted to images. Make sure you use a web safe font, put text in text boxes, not shape boxes, and don't add effects (shadows, etc) to the text or text boxes. This way Google has something to search on your pages.
    6. Create a sitemap and submit it to Google
    https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps/docs/en/about.html
    in conjunction with this
    http://www.sitemapdoc.com/Default.aspx
There are instructions for doing this all over the forum if you do a search.
    7. Wait patiently. It takes time

  • Is there any Blogger themes like iWeb's blog theme?

I Like iWeb's blog theme, but actually iweb is not easy to use.
Is there any way to export iweb blog theme for blogger(blogspot.com) using?
Or, is there already a theme for blogger which is like iweb blog style?
    thanks a lot.

Is there any way to export iweb blog theme for blogger(blogspot.com) using?
There is no export option of a iWeb theme.
When you publish iWeb pages, the objects (html, images and styles) that make the theme are in the published folder.
You have to edit a blogspot theme to display these objects.
    Here's how I use [Thingamablog and iWeb|http://www.wyodor.net/iWebBlogTest>

  • Irregular spacing between entries on main page (BLOG.html)

    Hi--
Why does the spacing between entries on the main BLOG page (blog.html) differ according to how long the entry is?
If the 'header sections' are the same size, why is their appearance on the main blog 'index page' different sizes?
I.e., if the contents of an entry exceed the template size, there is excessive blank space below that entry's header and the previous entry(below)--even if the 'header sections' are the same size.
Is anyone from Apple on these forums???
    Thx,
    Steve

At last...something I know an answer to...
when you are in iweb and have the blog main page open click on inspector and the the RSS tab.
Select blog from the blog / podcast options and then the number of excerpts to show option is there, the excerpt length option is another great feature.
    hope this helps.

  • How can I convert iWeb page to html with NO javascript for email campaign?

I have a holiday greeting I made in iWeb '09 for my business. The service I'm using to use to manage my mailing list wants me to strip all javascript code from the page so it is not seen as spam when it is emailed.
How can I convert the page made in iWeb to an html page with no javascript?
    Thanks

How can I convert the page made in iWeb to an html page with no javascript?
You cannot. There will be nothing left. iWeb pages rely a lot on JavaScript.
Use a template from Mail.app. Or create such template. These are simple TABLES and have no JavaScript in it.
Do Cmd-Shift-G in the finder and type :
    /Library/Application Support/Apple/Mail/Stationery/Apple/Contents/Resources/
Open one of the folders and open each successive folder until you see files like Picnic.mailstationery.
Right-click to show the package content.
Then navigate thru Contents, Resources until you see the files and images you need.
Edit them to your hearts content.
Double-click the file Picnic.mailstationery and it will open in Mail.app for further processing.

  • IWeb, rapidweaver & .mac account question

It has been impossible for me to to update my webpage since the beginning of January (I managed to pull some files from a folder into iDisk but tried again today but it hasn't worked.) I have been thinking about building a new site in RapidWeaver and uploading it to my .Mac address. Will this erase my current site? I ask because iWeb is in the url title http://web.mac.com/chrispinchen/iWeb/slow_Spain/Blank.html
and I guess that if I upload from RW it would create a different url?

As far as I know RW still publishes the pages in the Sites (HomePage) folder. You can enter a pathname to the correct location.
To publish the page to the iWeb folder, or any other location, you have to export the site.
A nice feature of RW is that you can export changes only, instead of the whole Site.

  • Add a favicon to iweb via the HTML snippet...how?

Is there a way to add a favicon to iweb via the HTML snippet?
My search on google has found many ways to do it by editing the published files, but this is more work than it is worth (since it needs to be done on every new publish).
    Any ideas?
    thanks
    bob

    bob:
There's been no way to add a favicon via HTML snippet that I've found. Using TextWrangler which can do multi-file find and replace doing it the old fashion way, post publication editing, is a little easier as described in Old Toad's Tutorial #22 - Adding a Favicon to Your Web Site.

  • IWeb '08 - blog "newbie" question

    Hello All,
I'm COMPLETELY new to the whole blog concept, so please bare with me...
I'm using iWeb '08, and want to start a blog. What I want to know is this: can my blog be updated remotely (say, via .Mac), or can it only be updated via iWeb?
    Thanks!

    Kerrstr
If you create it in iWeb '08, you will need iWeb '08 to update your blog - you cannot edit it (easily) any other way.
If you are adept at HTML you can try, but it may not be worth your time.

  • IWeb pages, blog pages, tags and html snippets

I use Rage seo tool and Bluehost
Can I add tags to blog pages to support seo?
Now that Google bots look for "structured data" in pages, can I add an html snippet to pages containing something like:
    <div itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/Organization">
       <span itemprop="name">Noosa Therapy Studio, Doonan</span>
       Located at
       <div itemprop="address" itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/PostalAddress">
          <span itemprop="streetAddress">92 Marnie Cres</span>,
          <span itemprop="addressLocality">Doonan</span>,
          <span itemprop="addressRegion">Noosa</span>.
       </div>
      <img itemprop="logo" src="http://www.noosatherapy.com/Logo.png" />
       Phone: <span itemprop="telephone">(07) 5471 1752</span>
       <a href="http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies" itemprop="url">http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies</a>
    </div>
Or am I on the wrong track?
    Thanks

The code you provided is not meta code. You don't paste in the head of the webpage.
Well, you can paste it there and the browser will render it.
It's code that should be in the body of a webpage.
And if you paste it there, make sure the info is correct.
    This :
    <a href="http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies" itemprop="url">http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies</a>
    should be :
    <a href="http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies.html" itemprop="url">http://noosatherapy.com/Therapies.html</a>
And I wonder if SEO is so good.
If I search for Noosa Therapy Studio Doonan
    http://www.google.com/search?q=Noosa+Therapy+Studio+Doonan
I do find your post in this forum. And also your Google+ page. But no pages from you website.
But if I search with :
    http://www.google.nl/search?q=Noosa+Therapy+Studio+Doonan
I find two events from May last year :
    Noosa Therapy Studio Events
Noosa Therapy Studio, Doonan opens for business
Note that .nl is from the other side of the globe.
No wonder I wasn't at the event.
Also note that I used the words from your webpage: Noosa Therapy Studio Doonan
It means I know about you. Because you advertised your business in the forum.
Also, if I want to find one who does The Therapy in Doonan Queensland, I still do not find you :
    http://www.google.com/search?q=Noosa+Therapy+Doonan+Qld
Perhaps your business name and domainname is not very unique. With 72,700 hits it looks like everybody is doing it in your area.

  • Newbie HTML Questions

I learned html years ago and never really did anything with it.  I am now taking a web design class at uni and its very basic. I grew board and kinda googled html and found that building sites without tables was something you could due.  So I created a bland little site without tables and I would like how do you create an easy way to update the site.  I have a center <div> and I like the way it looks when you have a heading then a paragraph.  Is there a way to use or write a program that you just insert in your post and it will update the website?  like, I write the post, it then opens up the html document, inserts the formatted post above the previous post?  If I didnt explain myself properly im sorry.  I would just like a easy way to update a website without actually having to open up the document, edit it by hand, and then save it.  I think this would be some sort of content management system?

I definitely think that you, and anyone interested in getting into webdev, should jump on the "new tech" bandwagon, while learning about current tech too. So, learn all of the following - all slowly of course:
HTML 4 Strict/Transitional and CSS: what your class will probably teach you
XHTML 1.0 Strict/Transitional: these are the current new-fangled toys everyone's playing with, but it's mostly buzzword and boringness - nothing "deep". You may learn this at your class also.
HTML 5 and CSS 3: These are the next big things, IMHO. HTML 5 appears to be awesome, and in the upcoming months it'll slowly catch on. Microsucks IE is the sucky bottleneck here - it doesn't support HTML 5 properly, but the Web has pushed for standards over commercial control before, and it'll do it again, at which point I'm expecting these to explode. It might take a few years, but hitting the ground running can't hurt at all, especially in a time when there won't be all that many webdevs familiar with 5.
XML/XSLT: I have no idea what IE's support model is for these since I haven't used winfailure in months, and I'm not sure about Opera as well, but these are definitely a look if you want your site to be easily CMSified. They operate on quite a different model to basic HTML/CSS though, so you might want to get comfortable with those before you dive into here.
PHP: Learn this but regard it as the winfailure of scripting languages, so don't make it your "heart language", if you know what I mean. It's slow, it's a huge hack, but for some reason it's popular so it's everywhere, so you may as well learn it. You might like it, but I guarantee you that one day you'll look at yourself, your code, and what you want to be doing with your life, and say "hey, PHP doesn't work for me anymore."
Be sure to learn another language in addition to PHP, especially if you don't already know a programming language - here's a list:
    - Ruby: I personally recommend this for its legibility.
    - Python: I haven't tried this but it seems quite powerful and is general purpose.
    - Perl: The UNIX scripted C. The emacs of programming languages. On all geek's workstations. Extremely rapid prototyping - there's a library for EVERYTHING.
    - Falcon: I recently discovered this. Uses a VM but is also really, really, really fast. On my considerably slow computer, hello world takes 44ms to run.
    - C, C++: Learn these. Just learn them. Even if they bring you to tears (they might not). You'll be a better programmer for knowing them.
    - REBOL, Haskell, Io, Smalltalk, Lisp, haXe: these are all good languages to learn "further down the track". They'll teach you various ways of thinking.

  • IWeb 08 blogging with slide shows

    Help!
I am using iWeb 08 in a fairly generic way. After seeing what her sisters have all been able to accomplish with blog sites such as blogger.com she wants to be able to include a slide show in her blogs. 2 questions:
    1. I have figured out how to export photos from iPhoto to quicktime. It creates a simple but usable slideshow in .mov format. I then open iWeb, click on the "entries" screen, create a new blow, then drag/insert the quicktime movie into the "placeholder" image to replace it in the blog. The problem is that when i go to my website, which opens up to the home page that shows all of the recent blogs with the most recent one first, the embedded quicktime file doesnt play. It only shows the first frame. When i click on it, it takes me a page with just that one blog on it, and then the mov file works, and i get my slideshow. What do i need to do make the .mov slideshow work in the home page. My wife wants the slideshow(quicktime movie) to work on the main page...).
    2. Second question. The quicktime slideshow is pretty generic. Sites like Picturetrail let you create pretty cool slideshows (flash files i believe) and then embed the html in your own blogsite ie blogger.com etc. I played around with embedding the html in iWeb and couldn't get it to work? A) can i embed a flash html in an iWeb blog, and B) will have the same problem of it not working on the homepage screen..
Sorry for the long post. Huge brownie points if i can get it to work, not to mention less grief for switching to a Mac
    Thanks for your help!

I have batch renamed all my assets, deleted all my slideshow thumb nails and replaced them so none of the images in my slide show have the same name as other assets anymore. I am sure this is what caused the problem.  I am about to reupload my website, so you won't be able to see the problem anymore (I sincerely hope).
The problem wasn't always reproducible. To be able to reproduce the bug you need 10 different slideshows (all with images called page_1.jpg, page_2.jpg etc with more than 50 pages in some of the galleries, and then you have to upload the slideshows, make changes to the website, upload again, then make more changes to the website, then go to all the galleries one at a time with the thumbnails visable then uncheck the show thumbnails box for all the different slideshows and upload again.
