IWeb-No way to publish only 'updated' files?

I am gathering by everyone's comments that there is no feature in iWeb to only update changed files, pages, etc? Please help if I am incorrect on this one.
This seems like a major goof on apple's part ... I just wanted to change some font color today and I had to re-upload all my videos on unrelated blog pages. I would suggest everyone use the 'provide iWeb feedback' option under the iWeb drop down menu on this one...
EK

When you using .Mac, publishing only updates pages
which have been changed (they are shown in red on the
list at the left).
Good info, but still doesn't make sense why my individual blog pages would be re-uploaded when I only changed the font color on the blog main page. It did turn red, though, indicating all would be uploaded upon publish. This definitely deters me from including videos in my blogs.... maybe just links to static locations on the iDisk would work around this?

  • Any way to publish only the changed files?

I'm uploading my Iweb site to my own domain using Dreamweaver, and I'm wondering if there is a way to only publish the changed files on my Iweb site?
It takes FOREVER to publish my site, and Iweb's folder structure is a complete mess so its nearly impossible to find the changes files.
    Ideas, thoughts?
    thanks,
    Brown.Recluse

    Jeff,
You are on the right track, definitely.
What I'm confused about is I guess which files I need to republish.
Remember, you have to let iWeb rewrite the entire html each time you make changes to it. That means all files, i.e., the entire site has to be republished by the application, at the very least to a folder, in order for you to have access to any of the files--most importantly, the ones you have changed/updated.
Here's the thing to understand; a lot of times, updating a site means changing only a file or two. Most of the time, the file you made changes to, (or the Page, even) will retain the same name. Regardless of what is in the file/page, it is still called up/indexed by it's name. So if you update a file/page/etc., swapping out the updated file/page involves simply exchanging the correct file(s), one with another, identified by their names.
Now let's take the example you have posted. You have correctly identified the Sites files in a typical iWeb-created folder structure. In the Blog, (which is what this site basically is--a blog updated by yourself) you should see a folder structure like this:
Now, there's a ton of stuff in a Blog. So when you update your blog, nevermind trying to parse out the files held within it; just swap out the entire Blog folder.
So in other words, let's say you just updated your Blog, and all you want to do is just upload the Blog updates without uploading the entire site. You have made the changes in iWeb (i.e., created a new Blog entry); now you need the html for these changes. File/Publish to a Folder.... Open the Site folder you published to--you will see the same file structure pictured above. Delete the Blog folder in the local file for Dreamweaver, and then drag the newly published Blog folder into it's place. As I said in my previous post, when you open the Files window in the Dreamweaver app, click the refresh button and the new Blog folder will be in place, locally, for upload. Highlight the folder and click the blue "Put" arrow (upload) button.
Your Blog updates, and only your Blog updates, will be uploaded to your server. They will overwrite the existing Blog folder on the server, with all of it's contents, and your Site/Blog is now updated.
Same thing applies for your Home page, or any page. Whatever page you make changes to, those are the Page_files and page.html that you want to exchange on the server. (The Blog.html is within the main Blog folder).

  • Iweb Seo Tool not uploading last updated file

    Hello,
I am using the Iweb Seo Tool to put title tags, google analicts...I have used it and it works, it updated me the data the first time.
But now I was doing some changes in the Iweb adding things, changing others....and I saved the changes in Local, then open Iweb Seo Tool press Re-Apply save tags, go to publish, try to upload through FTP like I did before and press browse go to the file CK_Translations try to get the last file updated (it should appear saturday 13:04 file changed) and it doesn't.
    http://picasaweb.google.com/carlinhosiro/IwebSeoToolErrorUploading#5541600955239 467618
Like you can see in the printscreen the exact date for last update (what the programm say) is jueves 18 Noviembre de 2010 a 10:50, but this is wrong is not real, I just change the file in Iweb save it in local and it should appear saturday 20 Noviembre de 2010 a 13:06....something is wrong, and it is not updating me the last version???
    Why?
    Can anybody help here.
    THANKS A LOT.

Did you check the files in the folder to see if the files modified has the correct dates? I've had folders with one date and the files inside with newer. That might be the case here.
Also you might try using a 3rd party FTP client like the free Cyberduck to upload the files. It can be setup to upload just the new or modified files if the steps in this tutorial are followed: Old Toad's Tutorial #2 - Uploading only those published new or newly edited files when using a 3rd party FTP client.

  • Is there a way to receive compressed update files?

I live in a rural area and use a satellite service for internet connectivey.  I'm limited to 17 gigs every thirty days, and speeds are often quite slow.  App updates are frequently a gig of more (iphoto, imovie) and, with two macs to keep current, these file sized are a significant burden.  I've downloaded the updates off-site at a hotel but when I try to install the files, I'm told the updates must take place within the app manager.   Is there any way around this?  It seems Apple just assumes we all have super fast access with no download limits.   Not the case with me

You know, you don't always HAVE to do an update...

  • Is there a way to access only my files from my favorites on finder to files on a microsoft based server?

I have all my favorites currently set up as folders on the drive and accessible all the time when my MBPR is connected via ethernet to a TB display.
The reason I pose this question is because I want all the perks of being able to access my server files remotely but without actually accessing the whole server or computer.
Ideally this would be the ultimate solution.

Thanks Dr. Chris...I thought my messages were safe on the memory card while my phone was sent for repair, but the phone was not fixed and I think they did a software upgrade and I can't access my messages on my original phone. I bought a new c510 thinking that it could read the messages from the memory card, but it doesn't. I'm really confused how the messages are saved on the memory card, but there is no way to access them...very weird. Someone should invent something that can do this...I think they would make alot of money.
In future, what is the best way to save important text messages other than saving them to the sim card?

  • What is the best way to publish a Captivate file to YouTube?

I delivered both a SWF and f4v file to a client. They tried converting it into every file format supported by YouTube. But when it plays back, all of the audio and video are out of sync. Has anyone been able to find a solution to this problem? I'm on a tight deadline so any help would help.
    Thanks!!

    Hi there
I believe that for YouTube you choose to publish as Media, then change the drop-down selector to choose F4V with Fixed frame rate.

  • Since moving from MobileMe to iCloud I can't seem to publish the update done on iWeb.

Does anyone know how I could figure out a way to publish my updates on iweb since moving from mobileme (the host) to icloud?
    Thank you,

    Do this:
go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log out of MMe.
login with a bogus username and password like "Ying" and "Yang". This clears the caches.
login with your correct username and password.
    launch iWeb and try again.

  • How to publish only pages with changes?

I am publishing to a folder rather than to MobileMe. Is there a way to publish only files that are new or have changed since last publish?

ThierryR is correct. Publishing to a folder without a previous version in that folder forces iWeb to publish the entire site. Subsequent publishes can be just changed pages. So just leave the site in the folder and keep publishing to it. You can always find which files have been changed by using the sort by date option in the Finder window for the site folder. But you realize that some files is the site's subfolders may be updated also, like css and js files.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • How to publish only select pages of a website

I have built multiple websites using iWeb, which I publish through MobileMe. Is there a way to publish the files from one of iWeb websites (or one page from one website for that matter) without iWeb and MobileMe publishing every updated file in iWeb?
I cannot find any information about this in the iWeb online Help. It is very frustrating because some of my sites and pages are not ready to be published, but when I click the Publish button in iWeb, iWeb/MobileMe publishes every file in iWeb.
How do I publish just one site or just one page from one site? Please help.
    Cheers, TruthMaker

For ease of updating and publish it is better to build all your sites on separate domain files.....
    http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebMultiplewebsites.html
When publishing to MobileMe its not so easy to not publish a page or two.
What you can do is create a second site on the same domain file and drag the pages you don't want to be seen down to this. They will be published but will not be seen on the website as their files will be in a different folder in Finder/Go/iDisk/My iDisk/Web/Sites.

  • Delete only one file from Trash

    Hello There,
I do not want to empty my entire Trash folder but only some files which i know I am not going to use it. Is there a way to delete only selected files and not just empty trash...
Thanks in advance for the help..
    NA

    nAyer,
When I place files in the Trash, I expect that they will be deleted. IMHO Trash is not a good place to store files that I may have second thoughts about eliminating.
I have created a folder which I named "B4 Trash," and placed it on my Desktop. If I really want to throw something away, I put it in the Trash and empty the Trash. If I am not sure about deletion, I place it in B4 Trash and get rid of it at my leisure.
Why not drag all of the files in Trash to a folder you create on your Desktop called B4 Trash, and then drag the files you really want to get rid of back to the Trash. Then empty the Trash.
    ;~)

  • How to only update existing records when loading master data ?

Hello experts, I need your lights one more time.
    Here is my need :
I have created an infoobject (IO) which is a very simple version of 0material, let's call it Znewmat --> Znewmat has material type and trademark as attributes, those two fields are available in 2 different datasources :
    - 0MATERIAL_ATTR for material type (field MTART)
    - 0MAT_SALES_ATTR for trademark (field MVGR2)
When loading my new IO from 0MATERIAL_ATTR I use a filter (at DTP level) to get only a few material types (I get something like 1000 records),
here is my issue : when I load from 0MAT_SALES_ATTR the field "material type" is not available to keep the same filter as for 0MATERIAL_ATTR and existing records are updated with the trademark, but I also get 5000 records I don't need, and my master data is "polluated" with useless lines.
*and my question : is there a way while performing the second loading to ONLY UPDATE EXISTING RECORDS AND NOT ADD ANY
NEW RECORDS ? (i didn't find anything in main options of my DTP)*
(I'd like to avoid the solution to update the 0MAT_SALES_ATTR datasource to add the missing field)
Thanks in advance for any help, points will be distributed.
    Guillaume P.
    Still no idea ?

in the start routine of transformation from 0MAT_SALES_ATTR to znewmat do the following:
select materials from /BIC/PZNEWMAT into i_mat
for all entries in source_package where material eq source_package-material.
    loop at source_package.
    p_ind = sy-tabix.
read table i_mat with key material = source_package-material.
    if sy-subrc ne 0.
    delete i_mat index p_ind.
    endif.
this way you'll only update records that have previously been loaded by 0MATERIAL_ATTR DS
    loading sequence:
first load ZNEWMAT from 0MATERIAL_ATTR. then activate ZNEWMAT. then load 0MAT_SALES_ATTR to ZNEWMAT.

  • Transporting Only Those Files in My Library

    Hello,
Soon I am leaving the country for three weeks. I'll be taking my 80g iPod, but would like to take along the music files on a portable HD for backup. The portable HD is 120g and I have a Music Folder that's 180g. Is there a simple way to copy only the files that I have on my iPod onto the HD?
I tried opening Music in my iTunes browser, selecting a few hundred titles, and dragging them to the HD window as a test. The files did copy over, but most of them got dislodged from their Artist and/or Album folders along the way. This is not ideal, as I'd like to have them organized on the portable HD just as they are in the Music Folder at home--just not so many of 'em.
    Any help? Thanks in advance.

Well, there may be a simpler way, but my jerry-rigged solution was:
On my Mac, I exported all of the playlists that I'm going to take with me into a folder created for that purpose.
I created a new library on the portable HD and a folder there to use as its Music Folder.
With "Copy files to Music Folder when adding to library" checked, I imported the playlists from Step 1 into the new library.
Now my portable HD has a Music Folder with only the files I want to take with me in it, and a library that I can use if necessary with my laptop while traveling. Not all that elegant, but simpler than doing the whole copying job album by album.
I will leave this question "unanswered" in case anybody wants to offer a simpler solution.

  • Gzip only specific files extensions over sockets

I am writing a socket webserver class that gzips only HTML files back to the browser (client). If the HTML file contains any images, I will have to send that over uncompressed. I am using GZIPOutputStream for my HTML objects, and a regular DataOutputStream for my other objects. None of my images show up correctly when I use DataOutputStream alone, but when I also gzip them, they show up fine. Also, all the images/html files show up fine if I exclude all the gzipping altogether. So it seems as though I have to either gzip them all ... or none at all.
Is there a way to gzip only certain file extensions?
    Thanks!

None of my images show up correctly when I use DataOutputStream alone, but when I also gzip them, they show up fine.Perhaps you aren't calling flush on the DataOutputStream (but the GZIP stream is) ?
So it seems as though I have to either gzip them all ... or none at all. Probably not, I believe there is just an error in your code.
Is there a way to gzip only certain file extensions?Sure,
    if (fileShouldBeGzipped(file.getName()))
      sendGzipFile(file);
    else
sendFile(file);Of course, you must provide the fileShouldBeGzipped logic.
Are you really implementing a webserver? That is, is it using http? If so, the standard practice (protocol) is that a client adds a header field which states what type of content encoding it can deal with in the response (i.e. gzipped content). If the server is capable, it replies with its own header stating the content is indeed gzipped along with the gzipped content. This way the client knows that it must decompress the data before doing something with it.

  • Import only jpg files from a camera that shoots RAW+jpg?

Is there a way to import only jpg files from a camera that shoots both RAW+jpg? I only want the small jpgs copied, not the RAW file. I have the USB adapter and am about to go on vacation and wanted to use my iPad to upload pictures to Facebook on the go so I am going to shoot on my Canon 5D in RAW+jpg. All I want to copy to the iPad are the jpg files. Is there a way to only copy one?

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?
I would note there is a long-standing issue between Kodaks and some versions of OS X - the workaround for that is to use a USB Card reader.

  • Download only new files?

    Hi,
Is there an easy way to download only new files from the
server without having to go through and select the various folders?
My programmer changes a handful of files now and then, but I end up
selecting every folder that he might have touched every time...I'm
sure there is a more efficient way to do it? If so, is there a way
to exclude log files? They are huge, take forever to download and I
    don't need them.
    thanks

    Synchronize will do that.
