IWeb on a new iMac?

Hi. I have brought a nem iMac and iWeb is not installed. Anyone who knows about this?

iWeb and iDVD aren't included with Macs that ship with Lion, but you can buy iLife 11 for them.

  • Can I transfer my iWeb files to new iMac running Yosemite

I have recently purchased a new iMac running Yosemite 10.10.2. I have a set of iWeb files that I was working on but had not yet published as a website on my old iMac which is running OS X 10.5.8. Is it possible to transfer these files to the new mac? I can't find any iWork or iLife files in the Applications folder on my new mac.

Yes, you can transfer the files, but you will be unable to open them, because as you have found, new Macs have not shipped with iWeb installed on them for a long time now - iWeb as you may or may not know is very old software now that has not been sold or supported by Apple for at least 3 years.
The only other way that you will be able to get iWeb onto your new Mac is buy a copy of iLife 11 or iLife 09, both of which contained the final version of iWeb - which is iWeb 09.  You would need to purchase this from Amazon.  You could try an old installation CD that came with your other Mac if you still have it and you could try installing iWeb onto your new iMac from that, but if it does not work, then you'll have to buy a copy of iLife 11 or 09 from Amazon.
Your other alternatives of course are to find some new web creation software that is supported or you continue to use iWeb on your old Mac and just update and publish your sites from that machine.
In the end though, it might just be easier to bite the bullet and move onto some new software and re-build you site with that.
Software that is worth taking a look at is RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway Pro/Express, WebAcappella 4, Flux V and EverWeb.  Then don't forget all the online website builders that you have, that are slightly different, such as WordPress.com, Wix.com and others.
Other alternatives are then the Content Management Systems such as Drupal, Joomla and WordPress.org.
I would suggest that you take a look at EverWeb first though - it is very much like the iWeb interface and can do a lot more than iWeb could out of the box, such as contact forms included, SEO included, drop down menus, master pages, support for PayPal with widgets and lots more.
Take and look and you can download a trial version before you buy.
There are lots of different options available to you, but ultimately, if you want to continue using iWeb on your new Mac, then you'll have to buy iLife form Amazon.  Time to move on perhaps?!!

  • How can I still edit my iWeb site on new iMac

My mid 2007 24" iMac which has served me well has memory problems. I now work with much larger projects ( Logic Studio + video ) than earlier, and have to continually keep clearing the memory as I work. I have the maximum  4 GB RAM  ).
This is halting progress so seriously that I'm considering changing it for a new iMac .... 27".
My question is: How can I still edit my iWeb site on a new iMac, when iLife is no longer included, and so presumably OS 10.7 doesn't support iWeb ?
    Will be grateful for insights.
    Thanks,
    SeaDream.

Well thanks. Sounds so complicated, though. Would another option be to backup my present Mac HD ( with Snow Leopard ) to an external HD and simply edit iWeb from there ?
As long as I also backed up this external HD, would this be a possibility ?

  • Does anyone know why I don't have iweb on my new imac?

I have iphoto, imovie and Garage band, but that is it. Doesn't it come with new macs?

So ilife is just all of the apps bundled together, correct? If I have iphoto 11 and imovie 11, and garage band, then it would make no sense to get ilife 11 for just iweb, right? I guess I assumed I had ilife on my mac already. I just bought it a few months ago. Maybe not?

  • IWeb 3.04 with OS 10.8.2 on new iMac. Issues with saving.

Sometimes changes save, sometimes they don't. Using Domain Cracker to open desired domain.sites2 files saved in the documents folder. Could that script be the source of the problem?
Back story is that we have a fairly large site developed on iWeb 1.x on an old 2006 MacBook running Tiger (10.4?). Hard drive crash resulted in new HD, installed box set Snow Leopard 10.6 and iWeb 3.0.4.  Then acquired a new iMac with Mountain Lion 10.8.2, installed the iWeb 3.0.4, copied the converted domain.sites2 files over. Made extensive changes, saved frequently, quit iWeb, the next day all changes area lost. Then tried experimenting with simple minor changes, save quit, relaunch, changes are saved properly. Try again, simple text edit, save, quit, relaunch, changes are lost. Sometimes the changes save, sometimes they don't.
Who knows the definitive answer on iWeb 3.0.4 running on a new iMac under OS 10.8.2 on a new latest model iMac? Is Domain Craker a potential source of the problem?

On the one hand you say you are using iWeb V 3.0.4 but at the bottom of your posr mention iWeb '08.
iWeb '08 (V2) causes problems with saving when using Mountain Lion.
Domain Cracker is just a script that allows you to choose a domain file to open in iWeb. It doesn't have anything to do with the running (or not) of iWeb.

iWeb stores the data in a Domain.sites2 file whose default location is shown here...

Move this to your new Mac.

  • I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have bought a copy of Apple iLife 11 on dvd a so that I can install iWeb and idvd, when I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate

I am using a new imac with osx lion 10.7.5 and have just bought Apple iLife 11 on dvd so that I can install iWeb and iDVD, as macs no longer ship with these apps. When I click on install iLife I get a message saying "iLife.kpg was signed with an invalid certificate.
Next problem is that when moving through the installer and get to custom install, as I only want to install iDVD and iWeb, I am presented with the option to install iDVD, Sounds & Jingles and iWeb, but not sure what is going on with the other 3 options iLife Support etc, they seem to be greyed out but still look like they may install over the top of the newer versions already on my imac. Is it ok for me to just go ahead and hit install? Or do I have a problem?

Yep, just install iDVD (plus sounds and jingles) and iWeb if you want it (but note that iWeb apparently won't work if you upgrade to Mountain Lion).
Then use Software Update to get any late iDVD updates.

  • I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

I bought a new iMac.  iWeb and all its folders migrated over, no problem, but I cannot bring up my website - it only seems to allow for creating a new site.

You need the 'Domain' file in which iWeb keeps its data. This lives by default in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb. You need to locate it on the old machine and copy it to the same position in the new machine. Note that it is the Library folder in your Home folder, not the one at root level.
This folder is hidden on Lion and above; to access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice. In Mavericks you can make it permanently visible - open your Home Folder the from the Finder's View menu, choose show View Options and check Show User Library.

  • New iMac not seeing iWeb

I published my iWeb website with an iMac I purchased earlier in the year. I just bought an Intel based iMac a few months ago and when I start up iWeb my website will not come up to edit or add to. I synched up with iDisk, etc so what am I doing wrong?

Always nice when someone takes the news the way you have! Thankfully your site was not that large.
How do I get rid of the old site that is still out there?
If you give your new site the exact same name as the old, the old site will be overwritten the first time you publish again to .Mac; essentially erased. You can also manually delete any file from your iDisk by navigating to it, following this path:
Using the Go menu in Finder, Go/iDisk/MyiDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/YourFilesAreHere
Highlight selected files and Command+Delete. A warning will appear asking you if you are sure; click Yes and the files will be deleted immediately from your iDisk.
Just a word about your new work in iWeb. As you are now painfully aware, iWeb places all work created in the application in the Domain File. We've been given a great little automator application by Varkgirl, which can be downloaded free here. Use this app to duplicate your new Domain file for backup, and do this frequently. Varkgirl has also assembled a great page of iWeb FAQ.

  • Moving iWeb site from my iBook to my new iMac

    Hi guys,
I'm having problems with moving my iWeb website to my new iMac. I have tried moving the domain file from the User>Library>Application Support>iWeb folder into the same location on my new computer and, yes, it does indeed work. However when I come to publish the site it appears that it cannot connect to MobileMe in order to upload. Am I doing something wrong? Any ideas as I really need to get my portfolio published online!
    Thanks
    Ben

Are you able to publish to a folder? If you can the problem is not with the domain file. So try the following:
1 - copy the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Shared folder on your Mac.
2 - Create a new account on your mac or log into another existing account.
3 - go to the System/MobileMe preference pane and log into your MMe account.
4 - move the Domain file from the Shared folder to your desktop and double click on it.
5 - try to publish from there.
Note: if you don't have permission to open that domain file you can set the permissions as follows:
download and run BatChmod on the Domaine.sites2 file with the settings shown here, putting your administrator login name in the owner section and Staff in the group section. You can either type in the path to the file or just drag the file into that field.
If you're not able to publish then the issue is with iWeb and a reinstall of iWeb is warranted. To do so you'll have to delete the current application and all files with "iWeb" in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder.
If you're able to publish from the other account then your primary account is suspect. It could be a preference file other than iWeb's. Here's how to determine if that's the case.
    Trouble Shooting Preferences in Leopard
1 - Create a folder titled "Preferences A" on the Desktop.
2 - Open the working Preferences folder, HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences, and move the contents to the Preferences A folder on the Desktop.
3 - Make a duplicate copy of the Preferences A folder on the Desktop as a precautionary backup.
4 - With the working Preferences folder empty run the application again and determine if the problems is fixed.
NOTE: you may have to drag the contents of the working folder to the trash and empty if moving the contents to the A folder only copies them instead of moving.
5 - If the problem is fixed:
A - open the working Preferences folder (HD/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences).
B - Open the Preferences A folder on the Desktop, select all of the contents and drag them into the working Preferences folder.
C - When the Copy window pops up check the "Apply to All" check box and then click on the Don't Replace button as seen here.
6 - If the problem is NOT fixed, empty the working Preferencess folder and move the contents of the Preferences folder on the desktop back into it.

  • Need new iMac but also need iweb

I want to buy a new mac but need iweb which isn't available in lion.  Could I use the restore cd that came with my 5 year old mac mini and only install the ilife software and if so, would it replace the ilife that came installed on the new imac?

Buy the iLife boxed set that still includes iWeb. You won't be able to use five year old software on a new iMac.

  • I've bought a new iMac , I was told iWeb is installed but I can find it, any ideas?

Hi I puchased a new imac, I was told iweb is included in within the software but can't fint it, any hints?

Many users in the same situation have reported that by strongly complaining to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iweb.html they were sent the boxed copy of iLIfe 11 which includes iWeb and iDVD.
It is now apparent that iWeb, and iDVD, will no longer be supported by Apple. This is evidenced by the fact that new Macs are shipping with iLife 11 installed but without iWeb and iDVD.
iWeb will still continue to work but without the following:
Features No Longer Available Once MobileMe is Discontinued:
    ◼ Password protection
    ◼ Blog and photo comments
    ◼ Blog search
    ◼ Hit counter
All of these issues can be solved with 3rd party options.
I found that if I published my site to a folder on my hard drive and then uploaded with a 3rd party FTP client subscriptions to slideshows and the RSS feed were broken.  If I published directly from iWeb to the FPT server those two features continued to work correctly.
There's another problem and that's with iWeb's popup slideshows.  Once the MMe servers are no longer online the popup slideshow buttons will not display their images.
However, Roddy McKay and I have figured out a way to modify existing sites with those slideshows and iWeb itself so that those images will display as expected once MobileMe servers are gone.  How to is described in this tutorial: #26 - How to Modify iWeb So Popup Slideshows Will Work After MobileMe is Discontinued.
Apple has announced that iLife is now an unsupported product and those iApps will only be available thru the App Store from now on. However, the boxed iLife 11 at the online Apple Store (Store button at the top of the page) and those still on the shelves of retailers will include iWeb and iDVD. Those two apps were listed in small, gray text on the iLife 11 box that I bought. Personally, if I already didn't have a copy I would purchase one to have it for reinstallation purposes if ever needed.

  • Why missing iweb in new imac??

I just bought an new iMac but can't found the iweb software... sigh !!
Any one can tell me how can i get it again ?

Because Apple decided to stop putting it on new Macs. It's available on iLife 09 and 11 DVDs; places such as Amazon and eBay may sell these.

  • IWeb, new iMac, old MacBook, comments, sharing, etc

    Hi,
I made a page on my new iMac and:
    1. I want people to be able to comment on my blog but do not know how to enable that or if it is possible
    2. I want to be able to work on it using my MacBook. I just tried and discovered that iWeb does not seem to be on there anymore. Maybe it is because I upgraded to Leopard and iLife was erased at that time. Is it possible to extract the iWeb from my reboot disk from my MacBook and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
Thanks for the help you offer,
    David

David ~ The following is from iWeb's Help viewer...
If you publish your site to MobileMe, you can let visitors post comments to your blog or podcast entries. These comments are visible to anyone who visits your website. You can also allow visitors to attach files (which other visitors can download) to their comments.
To allow visitor comments on your blog or podcast:
    • Select a blog or podcast page in the sidebar.
    • If the Blog & Podcast Inspector isn’t open, click Inspector in the toolbar (or choose View > Show Inspector), and then click the Blog & Podcast Inspector button.
    • In the Blog pane of the inspector, select “Allow comments.”
    • To permit visitors to attach files (such as images) to their comments, select “Allow attachments.”

You should have an iLife CD that came with your MacBook — reinstall iWeb from that.
...and then work on the page I built using my iMac by transferring it through my MobileMe network?
    See this Apple doc...

  • I just installed iLife on my new Imac version 10.8.2 and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says that I Photo is damaged or incomplete.  What do I do to restore my iPhoto and pictures!

I just installed iLife on my new iMac 10.8.2 version and now I can't open my iPhoto app.  It says it is damaged or incomplete.  What can I do to get it back along with all of my picutures?  I was told by an Apple employee at my one to one training that it was OK to install iLife to get the iDVD that I wanted. Help!

I have installed iLife a few times and because of photostream, the version on the disc must be updated.  Software update usually takes care of it.  It sounds like you installed an old version over a new version.  I've not tried that.
You have a late 2012 machine, if you open the Mac app store from the dock, you should be able to go to the purchased tab and download/install the right version of iphoto.  Honestly, you should not have used that disc on this new of mac or at least only installed iDVD & iWeb but not garageband, iphoto, and iMovie.
If the Mac App Store shows iphoto as installed already, drag the app from your applications folder to the trash and reinstall it again from the Mac App Store.  That is the version you need.  You may find garageband and imovie have similar problems.
    good luck.
PS.  your photos are in your photo folder in your home folder.  don't touch those, I'm talking about the app "iphoto" in the applications folder.
