IWeb opening problems

When I open iWeb I get all the folders for my site, but I do not get the actual site itself (where I can make changes).  When I search my Mac for
my site I get the same results, the folders for the site but not the site itself.  Any ideas?  Thanks very much.

The site doesn't exist until you publish it out of iWeb to a folder on your hard drive or to an FTP server where you have an account.
All edits and changes are make in iWeb by clicking on triangle next to the site folder to display the pages in the left hand column. Select the page and make the changes to the page as it appers in the right hand part of iWeb's window.

  • IWeb opens but there is no project window

    I use iWeb extensively and have never had this issue before. iWeb opens and shows all the menu items but no project window.
    I used Time Machine to restore an older version of my iWeb Pages folder, didn't work.
    I used this help discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2199580?start=0&tstart=0) to fine and rebuild the iWeb domain or package folder. If I remove the old package iWeb creates a new one and will open an empty project window. Partial sucess, but if I replce the contetns with my old package contents it again won't open the projects and there is no project window.
    I can't beleive I never noticed iWeb has no way of opening an exsitng project!
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY don't want to have to re build my sites from scratch.
    I'm on iWeb '08 2.0.4 and Mac OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks,
    David

    Well yes, iWeb can open an existing project, but it does have to be your domain.sites file and not a published version of your website because iWeb has no import facility so cannot open html and css.
    Find the correct iWeb data file and iWeb will most certainly open it and this can be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
    Your a probably having problems because you are using iWeb 08 with Mountain Lion and iWeb 08 has been reported as having bugs and not working with Mountain Lion.  If you want to continue using iWeb, then you will probably need to upgrade it to iWeb 09.  Unfortuntately, the only way that you can get iWeb 09 now is to buy it from Amazon.  Get either the iLife 09 or iLife 11 boxed set and both of these contain iWeb 09.
    iWeb 09 works with Mountain Lion and you can also have separate domain.sites files which you cannot in iWeb 08.  In iWeb 09 you can also use direct publishing rather than publishing to a folder.
    Try upgrading to iWeb 09 if you want to continue using it with Mountain Lion or your other alternative if you don't want to buy iWeb 09 is to continue to use iWeb 08, but use it on a Mac still running Snow Leopard with which it works.

  • Image open problem in nokia 5230

    Dear All,
    I have nokia 5230 mobile & i am using from last 10 months but from past few days i am facing problem regarding image/songs open problem.  whenever i trying to open image my phone gets hang & it shows nothing in it but i have 100 pics in memory card, same problem is with songs whenever i put some songs in memry card but songs gallery after refreshing shows nothing.
    Please help me to resolve this issue.
    Vipul

    im not sure what to do about the images but the same happened with the songs. here is waht i did:
    1. make sure you have the latest firmware installed (fw. 50).
    2. when it is installed copy all tracks to pc and install nokia ovi music.
    3. delete the folder called 'music' on your memory card.
    4. open ovi music and add songs to playlists and copy to device. this will create a new folfre called 'music' and the error should be fixed
    if that fails you should try a program called lcg jukebox as this is a much better music player

  • Desktop.open() Problem

    I recently put together an application that relied heavily on the Desktop.open( ) method and several other methods from the Desktop class. However, all of a sudden the Desktop.open() does not work. I believe I read some where that this was due to the ShellExecute function or dll or something like that.
    However, since my app is targetted at the Windows platform I resorted to using windows Explorer to launch the system default applications for files using a the code below
    public static void openFile(File file) {
      try {
        Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
        runtime.exec( "explorer.exe \"" + file.getAbsolutePath() + "\"" );
      } catch(IOException) {
        ioe.printStackTrace();
        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(null, "Could Not Open File Location: " + file.getAbsolutePath());
    }The code works as expected, but my problem is that I am loosing cross-platform functionality.
    Can any point my to solution to this Desktop.open( ) problem, or probably add the my list platform dependent launch procedures so at least the code works on Windows,Linux and Mac.

    Thanks Andrew,
    I've do a more simple example of the problem. I create two files on "\\fiuu\proyectosShared", one called "test.txt" and the other one called "te st.txt". I execute your exact source for the who paths whith these results:
    File f = new File("//fiuu/proyectosShared/test.txt");
    System.out.println(f + "  exists: " + f.exists());
    dt.open(f);
    RESULT:
    \\fiuu\proyectosShared\test.txt  exists: true
    (notepads opens the file)The second test does'nt work:
    File f = new File("//fiuu/proyectosShared/te st.txt");
    System.out.println(f + "  exists: " + f.exists());
    dt.open(f);
    RESULT:

    Something curious: try to execute Runtime.getRuntime().exec("explorer " + f.getAbsolutePath) for a file that has thow white spaces on his name....
    File f = new File("//fiuu/proyectosShared/te  st.txt");//with two white spaces
    System.out.println(f + "  exists: " + f.exists());

  • IWeb opens but my site won't

    I am a Photographer and I use iWeb to publish online contact sheets for my clients. Basically for each job I complete I copy my existing domain.sites file to a new folder rename it add my content publish it to the web and I'm good to go.
    Well for the site in question which is a rather large one 56 galleries each with over 40 photos that was nearly complete and I was trying to put the finishing touches on, I click to open it and iWeb opens but the site does not. iWeb is running I can open the inspector window the font window image adjust, and color windows just not the window with my site in it. Hmmmm any ideas anyone??
    I can go back and create a new site from a different file and it opens fine. But this one site wont open? I've tried deleting the prefs in the User file, and deleting the Cache from the user file copying the file to another location, opening my backup copy. Also when I opened it to day for the first time I got the iWeb tutorial window.
    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Michael

    Try deleting the prefs again - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist
    Restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
    If this doesn't work you need to consider the possibility that the domain file is corrupt.
    When you say you are duplicating the domain file to another folder and adding content to that, are you deleting any content from this file as well as adding new?

  • IMovie to iWeb viewing problems

    Thanks to earlier posts I have now been able to upload a movie onto my MobileMe website, I’ve done this by opening it in iMovie and going to Share, Media Brower, Mobile and Publish, then doing the approprite thing in the iWeb Inspector. I have not added a download option.
    I can now open this myself, although both it and music files initially take some time to download. However, my fan club have had mixed experiences.
    Most Mac users have no trouble, but one with an iMac (not sure which OS) gets sound but no vision.
    Some PC users are OK, especially if they have QuickTime, but others have merely reported that they cannot get the video to play. Some of these can play audio tracks.
    Two PC users have had serious problems. One said that his computer started to download; this was taking a long time and he had no way of stopping it. Also, the music tracks had no play bar.
    I have been told about Vimeo and I may try that if all else fails. And I appreciate that some PC users are dinsoaurs, as one reply put it!
    Any help and advice would be appreciated.

    WIndows users are more likely to have the flash plugin...

    The problem is that iOS devices like the iPhone don't support it.
    Using YouTube or Vimeo overcomes this problem. I prefer Vimeo and you can upgrade to a Pro account to get rid of the logo , advertising etc....

  • IWeb/iPhoto problems

    I must have something set wrong...
    First of all when I open iPhoto all I see is the events. The items like Last Roll, Last 12 months ect. are not along the left side of the window.
    But here is there main problem. When I publish to iWeb it publishes fine. When it is finished "Pending" is gone from all of the photos, but I cannot get back to all of my events. It just stays on the published page. At the top where the All Event button should be it has the subscription link.
    The only way I have been able to get back to all of my events is to rebuild the library with iPhoto Library Manager.

    Thanks for the help... It was a little more involved than that, but those were the initial steps.
    When I deleted the pref file and restarted iPhoto it would create a new default library that had nothing in it. I ended up making a copy of the rebuilt library just in case and renaming the rebuilt on to iPhoto Library. Now I see all the items on the side.
    I still don't know if I will have problems after publishing to iWeb. I guess I will see the next time I do it.

  • IWeb Leopard problems

    does anyone know how to fix this?
    I installed Leopard today then opened up my iWeb and a very old website appreared dont know where that came from. It is not the one i publish to .mac site nor was it the site i was working on just before i updated to Leopard. I have however saved my website folder to a file but cannot work out how to import it to iWeb
    Any ideas?

    Alright, so I've published my site to a folder - in my Media folder, which contains my mo3 podcasts and quicktime movie files, there are -'s in between words when the original files contain none. This isn't a Filezilla or any other 3rd FTP program problem, it seems to be coming from iWeb.
    Funny thing is, it's not affecting every one of the podcast or QT movies pages. When I click on a podcast the link that is provided has added the ( " ) code %22 in place of ( " ) from the title of the podcast. I use quotes on other pages the exact same way and when you clock on that page, it works fine. I feel like I may just have to rebuild the pages again, and that - I'm not looking forward too. It feels like an iWeb bugout to me.

  • IWeb headings problems

    Whenever someone opens my website (iWeb) they see the page headings at the top of each page. However, the first time anyone logs onto the website the headings on the Cover page do not function properly.
    When the mouse cursor is dragged across the headings they shimmer, shake, and some are unusable. However, if someone tries to do this after accessing another page, the problem no longer happens. It happens ONLY on the Cover page.
    How can this be remedied? I am paying for this service and people visiting my website are discouraged from exploring when they cannot use their mouse as needed to click on the page headings.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    Thank you
    Mark

  • Iweb opens but no site?

    Today, i opened iweb and all i am getting now is the start up page where it wants me to create a new site. I don't understand...nothing has gone wrong with the computer and i have checked that the site is still active in my idisk. Also i was creating a backup of the site from the "domain" every day, that is there also. However, when i double click it to reload iweb just keeps asking me to create a new site. Another strange thing is that when i click the idisk in finder, it tells me the volume can't be found. I have to click "go" then idisk to make it work, but my main problem is getting this site back on....Any help please???

    Look in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for a domain.sites2 file. Check it's size and date. Open it to make sure that's the domain file iWeb is opening and showing no site.
    It it truly is empty do a search on your hard drive for domain.sites2 to see if there's another such file/package. If not then, unless you have a backup copy of that file/package, you'll have to recreate your site from scratch. iWeb cannot read and/or import html web files once they are published. It can only create them.
    If you have to recreate the site check out Paragraph 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site. It offers tips that will make it a little easier: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
    If you don't have a backup strategy for your domain file you might consider using the Automator script I created (based on Varkgirl's script) to backup the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. It will copy it to the desktop. You can edit the script with Automator to change the destination for the backup copy. It can be downloaded from  Toad's Cellar.

  • IWeb opening up older version

    I've searched the discussions in the iWeb forum and have followed steps to transfer everything, but I'm still having problems getting iWeb to open up the most recent version of my site after transferring files from my old Mac to my new Mac.
    My old Mac is running OS 10.4.1 and my new Mac is running OSX 10.6.8. Older version of iWeb is 1.01 and newer version of iWeb I'm using is 3.0.4.
    I have copied all support files including "domain.site" file from my old Mac and placed "domain.site" file into my new Mac under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb. When I open iWeb on my new Mac it continues to open an older version of the site I've created.
    The strange thing is that the date for "domain.site" file on my old Mac shows it is from 12/6/06, but I've updated the site many times since then. I've even saved all site pages and republished site today, but it still shows an older date. Also, I made a copy of iWeb preference file under Home Folder/Library/Preferences/ and threw it away, but it didn't help.
    Any suggestions would be helpful because I want to be able to update site on my new Mac and don't want to have to recreate it. Thanks!

    Try the application described below.  It was designed primarily for use with Lion but works with all system versions.
    To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
    do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
    You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
    Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
    WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • IWeb opens only a blank template not my full site.

    MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.8,  iWeb 3.0.4
    Trying to update my web site and it won't open when I click on the icon.  I get only a blank iWeb template.  The other 20-30 pages seem to have evaporated.
    Can anyone help?
    Many thanks.

    Thanks for your response Viking, but Hosting is not the problem.  I now use Hostgator for hosting and it works fine.
    The problem is when I click on my iWeb icon on my computer to open the site I have created over the years, my site does not appear.  I get only a blank iWeb template as if my site has evaporated.
    I am trying to add some new material to my site which resides on my laptop.

  • IWeb Saving problems

    I really hope that this makes sense. Using iWeb '06.
    Two problems here: I moved my iWeb files around to consolidate and discard duplicate files between my Mac's HD, duplicate files on the desktop and an external drive. I just did an update to my site and to my horror, it "couldn't save media files" - and showed a long list of files. I went and found them from the new location on my HD and re-dropped the movie and picture files in. Then, when I tried to save, it listed three new but non-specific files ("movie" "dropped pict image"). I checked the pages and all pictures are visible. Then when I tried to save again, almost the entire previous list of "Missing" files (most of which were visible anyway) came up again as being unable to be saved.
    Then, when saving, it didn't know where iWeb was...
    "The location of the document iWeb cannot be determined. You can specify where to save it."
    So it called itself "Domain" and it saved itself to the Desktop. Then it told me that it would be replaced...fine. The thing is, it has never done this before. I looked in the Library folder/Application support/iWeb, and there is a Domain file in there too, and it opens the same iWeb as the one on the desktop.
    I have no idea why this is happening. Something has gone screwy - obviously it did not like having its files moved around, but I have replaced those files from the same ones in the new location.
    I have not tried to publish my site (assuming that I even can) as it's after 3 AM and i have been trying to fix this for hours. My website looks fine - I shudder to think of how it will look after publishing, but I want to make sure that everything is where it should be before publishing.
    Thanks for any advice. I thought I'd check here before calling Apple as they keep telling me to check the website anyway!

    The sites extension doesn't always show, if you hilight the domain file and go to finder get info then it should say what the extension is. The domain file is where iweb saves all the files so as long as you have that you should be OK. It isn't a good idea to move or re-move files unless you know what they do.

  • IWeb opens only a blank startup site, not my iWeb-made web-files

    I made over the last years different websites with iWeb, untill very recently it all worked well. But now suddenly iWeb only opens the same (blank setup 'domain') page everytime I try to open a (different) website.
    I now already installed iWeb09 again, updated to 3.04 but still the same problem.
    Last try for me is to startup an old Mac, OS SnowLeopard, with iWeb still on it and try to open the web-files there and safe them that way, to turn them back on the OS Mountain Lion again and open them than again. Maybe ...
    I didn't read this problem anywhere here yet.
    Maybe I have to change to Dreamweaver or another softwareprogram?
    Thanks for thinking and your suggestions.

    In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
    To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
