IWeb opening up older version

I've searched the discussions in the iWeb forum and have followed steps to transfer everything, but I'm still having problems getting iWeb to open up the most recent version of my site after transferring files from my old Mac to my new Mac.
My old Mac is running OS 10.4.1 and my new Mac is running OSX 10.6.8. Older version of iWeb is 1.01 and newer version of iWeb I'm using is 3.0.4.
I have copied all support files including "domain.site" file from my old Mac and placed "domain.site" file into my new Mac under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb. When I open iWeb on my new Mac it continues to open an older version of the site I've created.
The strange thing is that the date for "domain.site" file on my old Mac shows it is from 12/6/06, but I've updated the site many times since then. I've even saved all site pages and republished site today, but it still shows an older date. Also, I made a copy of iWeb preference file under Home Folder/Library/Preferences/ and threw it away, but it didn't help.
Any suggestions would be helpful because I want to be able to update site on my new Mac and don't want to have to recreate it. Thanks!

Try the application described below.  It was designed primarily for use with Lion but works with all system versions.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • Maintain PDF layering when opening in older version of Illustrator?

As the title explains, I was wondering if it may be possible to avoid data loss upon opening a PDF in an older version of Illustrator. I have a client who is still using CS5, and needs to have editable PDF files that maintain their hierarchy.
Currently standing, I get the "This file was generated by a newer version of Illustrator" error, which flattens the artwork into a single layer. Is there a workaround for this, or am I out of luck?
Thank you in advanced for your help.

Have you tried saving as CS5. There's a drop-down menu for choosing a version. It will still flatten some things that are not available in the older version, but you may have better luck keeping the layers intact that way.

  • I keep running the firefox update but the next time I click on my firefox icon it opens an older version and asks me to update. What is going on?

I downloaded and ran the update to Firefox. It said it was successful and then the welcome page etc. came up. However, after I had closed down and started up again the "old" version came up when I clicked on the Firefox icon with the usual comment that I have an old version and should update. I have tried this three times with the same result. I have a Compaq Presario 2200 laptop.
    What am I doing wrong?

If you use the www.google.com/firefox site as home page that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page then you can ignore the message about not using the latest Firefox version on that page.<br />
Google no longer seems to maintain that page.<br />
The text about not running the latest Firefox version is in the code of the www.google.com/firefox site that previous Firefox 3 versions use as the home page and it looks that Google no longer maintains that page.<br />
Current Firefox 4+ versions no longer use that Google website as the home page, but use the build-in about:home page as the home page.<br />
Google assumes that you use an older Firefox version if you still visit that site and warns you that you use an older Firefox version and suggests to update.<br />
You can use another page as the home page like about:home or www.google.com or www.google.com/ig (iGoogle).<br />

  • Editing clip in Audition opens up older version of Audition

So whenever I select a track in CS6 to edit in Audition, it opens up 5.5 and not Audition 6. I just recently reinstalled all of them, so its doing this after a reinstall. Any tips?

    What OS are you on?
In Windows, you should be able to go to Folder Options>File Type and there just associate the WAV files to Au 6 - probably set to Au 5.5 now. Note: the exact syntax and location of the File Type dialog might differ, Windows version to version.
On a Mac? I do not know where one would set file associations, but others should, and it might even be in the Mac OS Help File.
    Good luck,

  • Opening (much) older version project

    Hi all,
I have an ancient AE 4 project that I need to open on my CS5. When I try to do so, CS5 informs me that I should open it with an earlier version and re-save it.. I don't have any earlier versions. Is there a conversion procedure? Or utility? Neither import works... any suggestions? I can mail the .aep to anyone who has an earlier version that can open 4.0 projects.
    Thanks in advance

Thank you all for your assistance and helpful posts. I dug up a rendered version of the project and re-
constructed it from scratch. Would be helpful though if Adobe could build a converter. Thanks again

  • Is there a performance hit to opening an older version of a project file?

We are building an application that uses AERender.exe on the command line to output an .mp4 file.
Due to what licenses we have available, we're creating the project file using CS5.5, but rendering on a server using CS6.
Will there be any noticable performance decrease from opening a CS5.5 project in CS6?

I would think that would depend on the project, plug-ins used and other factors. You will probably have to run some tests and graph the results.

  • Using latest Premiere Pro, opened older version, now all projects have older interface

I have been using the latest version of Premiere. I recently opened a project that was using an older version of Premiere (CS5 perhaps). Now when I open any new projects using that latest version of Premiere, it shows in the older version interface. Does this now mean I have the older version of Premiere Pro  or is it showings the interface, yet I still have the latest version? I did not do any thing overt by updating or re-installing, just opening an older version of a project.

  • Transferring ICal date from older version  IMac to newer

My Imac G5 desk top died a few months back and I have replaced with model below. I just transferred old hard drive to new computer and am trying to open old ICal. I keep getting the message that this version can't be opened on this version of IMac. I have to access this calendar as a few documents that were on my old desk top didn't transfer open for some reason and I can recreate using the old calendar.. Any ideas as to how I can open the older version? I tried to create a new group in the new version and import the information that way but that didn't work either. Thanks.. (can I download on a thumb drive and print out perhaps?)

You need to locate the calendars folder that was on the drive of the old computer.
It would be located in: Name of your old Hard drive > Users > Name of your user > Library > Calendars or Name of your old Hard drive > Users > Name of your user > Library > Application Support > iCal
Once you locate this folder you put it in your current computer in the same location as above. When you open up the current version of iCal which was on your computer when you purchased it (iCal 4.x) it will see those calendars and read them for you.

  • Replacing newest iTunes with older version.

I uninstalled the latest version of iTunes (which I hate) and am trying to install an older version (10.7) and when I try to open the older version, I get the statement:
(The file "i Tunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created by newer version of iTunes)
Can someone please tell me how to get the older version to work?
    Many thanks

After working on this all day i was about to give up when i came across this on the apple site... and best of all - IT WORKS!!! My computer (running Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit) and itunes finally recognizes my ipod 5th gen again!! Give it a try!
    Reinstall USB driver:
Right-click the iPod's entry in Device Manager and choose Uninstall from the shortcut menu.
In the resulting dialog box, click OK.
In the Device Manager window, right-click Universal Serial Bus controllers and choose Scan for hardware changes from the shortcut menu.
Windows automatically reinstalls the necessary USB drivers and attempts to remount the iPod.

  • I have InDesign CS (v 3.0.1) can newer CS4 files be saved to open in this version

I would rather not upgrade if the files can be saved to open In InDesign CS. Thanks
Also can I download the free trial of CS4 and use this to save the file to my older version?.
I received a 500mb file from a client today and would like to solve this problem myself rather than have them re save & re send the file. Thanks, Shawn New Haven, CT

Backward compatibility in Indesign works like this:
Any version of ID can open files from any version up to that release. Once saved in a newer version, files cannot be opened in older versions, with the following exception, of sorts. Beginning with CS2 (version 4) files can be exported to .inx (Interchange Format) which can be opened by the version doing the export and one version earlier. Any features used in the newer version which are not available in the older version will be lost, and text will most likley recompose and change line ending points due to differences in text engines for each version. It is possible to hack CS4 .inx to sometimes make it open in CS2, but it is not guaranteed.
Exporting to back save is not a recommended workflow and should be considered a last resort. If you know a file will need to be opened in an earlier version, you should do all work in that version for best results.

The last version of Firefox that works in OS 10.3 is Firefox 2.0.0.20, you can get it from ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.20/mac/en-US/

  • Downgrading to an older version - will I lose my LIBRARY?

I know someone in another thread said that if you downgrade, you'll lose your playlists...but will you also lose your library and playcount too...?

Yeah, I lost all my playlists when I downgraded. I didn't know it was going to happen, so I didn't try to prepare for it. When I opened the older version after installing it I got an error message that said something like "iTunesLibrary.itl was created by a newer version of iTunes and cannot be accessed." Then when I clicked the error box iTunes would just close. So I had to go into the iTunes folder & delete that file before it would open, which means I deleted all my playlists and playcounts, etc. There is a previous itunes library file, but when I try to open it nothing happens, or if I try to import it in itunes it won't open.
When I was looking in iTunes help there's a section about 'saving playlists' - I guess you could try exporting them into a separate file and then reimporting them later, although who knows if that would work? Right now I'm trying to rebuild them from my ipod. Good luck.

  • How do I republishing an old site, from an older version of iWeb?

Ok. I had an Old site that I want to continue. I created it on an older version of iWeb. Is there anyway to salvage that site or do I just have to do it over?

As often discussed in this forum, you'll need the domain.sites2 file iWeb uses to store its assets.
If that file is missing, or not available from a backup, you'll have to start from scratch, meaning : Copy/Paste text and images (you can drag them) from the published pages.
Small consolation, if you carefully copy text from the webpage in the browser window, iWeb will retain the formatting when you do Command-V (= paste). The textbox is automagically created.
And no, iWeb cannot import or open HTML files.

  • IWeb pages reverting to older version- not a browser issue, deleting prefs/caches no help

Hi everyone, forgive me if this is a newb question but I've scoured the internet for answers and all of them I've already tried with no luck. I'm using iWeb and encountering a problem that has me completely stumped. I'm trying to publish changes to my site, (I do not use mobileme, I publish to disk and upload files via Fetch) and for some reason something is changing my html files when I try to upload them. The html files are correct on my hard drive when I publish them, and yet when I upload them, they revert to the older version. This is not a browser issue, as I've cleared my cache, refreshed and tried using Safari, Firefox and Chrome with no luck. I've also tried 're-setting' iWeb by deleting iWeb preferences/cache, and tried moving the domain file from application support, creating a new website, deleting it and then re-loading the old site. Nothing, still the old site. It's new in iWeb, new when I open the html files on my drive, and old as soon as I upload.
I seem to remember having this problem before, and what I found was iWeb's cache kept replacing my new pages with the old ones every time I wanted to upload them. 'Re-setting' iWeb did the trick then, but it's not doing it now. Any ideas on what is going on? It's a little disconcerting seeing a file correct on the disk and then change itself, while uploading, into an incorrect version.
    Using:
    iWeb 3.0.3
    Mac OS 10.6.7
    Mac Pro 2.66 Dual core

If you make changes to a page there are files in the Scripts folder that get updated and must be uploaded also.  Depending on what you're using to up load the files it can be setup to upload just those new or modified files.
Cyberduck is a free FTP client that works very well and if used in conjunction with this tutorial will upload only those new or modified files: #2 - Uploading only those new or newly edited and published files when using a 3rd party FTP client

  • Open Pages documents from an older version

I need to open Pages documents from an older version of Pages that I saved to an external drive from a computer that I no longer have access to.  My current operating system is 10.7.5 and I can't upgrade it right now.  I see that Pages 5.0 requires 10.10 or higher and I can't find older versions to download and from what I've read, it doesn't sound like I'd be able to open the old documents with the new version anyway.  I really need these documents. What can I do?

I found it helpful to convert all my old Pages '08 files to .doc files.  They can be opened by the new version of Pages.
Since the new version of Pages is no longer back compatible, and so not good for anything you want to keep for a long time, you might consider using an open source word processing application like Libra Office.  That's what I had to do.  After seven years of being a happy Pages user - archiving thousands of files in Pages -Apple has abandoned us.  I no longer think it is wise to use the new Pages and then five years down the road (or sooner) not to be able to open them in a newer version.
If you would like a quick way to convert your Pages '08 files to .doc, let me know.
