IWeb opens but my site won't

I am a Photographer and I use iWeb to publish online contact sheets for my clients. Basically for each job I complete I copy my existing domain.sites file to a new folder rename it add my content publish it to the web and I'm good to go.
Well for the site in question which is a rather large one 56 galleries each with over 40 photos that was nearly complete and I was trying to put the finishing touches on, I click to open it and iWeb opens but the site does not. iWeb is running I can open the inspector window the font window image adjust, and color windows just not the window with my site in it. Hmmmm any ideas anyone??
I can go back and create a new site from a different file and it opens fine. But this one site wont open? I've tried deleting the prefs in the User file, and deleting the Cache from the user file copying the file to another location, opening my backup copy. Also when I opened it to day for the first time I got the iWeb tutorial window.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Michael

Try deleting the prefs again - Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iWeb.plist
Restart your Mac and run Disk Utility to repair permissions.
If this doesn't work you need to consider the possibility that the domain file is corrupt.
When you say you are duplicating the domain file to another folder and adding content to that, are you deleting any content from this file as well as adding new?

  • Iweb opens but no site?

Today, i opened iweb and all i am getting now is the start up page where it wants me to create a new site. I don't understand...nothing has gone wrong with the computer and i have checked that the site is still active in my idisk. Also i was creating a backup of the site from the "domain" every day, that is there also. However, when i double click it to reload iweb just keeps asking me to create a new site. Another strange thing is that when i click the idisk in finder, it tells me the volume can't be found. I have to click "go" then idisk to make it work, but my main problem is getting this site back on....Any help please???

Look in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder for a domain.sites2 file. Check it's size and date. Open it to make sure that's the domain file iWeb is opening and showing no site.
It it truly is empty do a search on your hard drive for domain.sites2 to see if there's another such file/package. If not then, unless you have a backup copy of that file/package, you'll have to recreate your site from scratch. iWeb cannot read and/or import html web files once they are published. It can only create them.
If you have to recreate the site check out Paragraph 2.3 of this iWeb FAQ site. It offers tips that will make it a little easier: http://iwebfaq.org/site/iWebBackupretrieve.html
If you don't have a backup strategy for your domain file you might consider using the Automator script I created (based on Varkgirl's script) to backup the User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. It will copy it to the desktop. You can edit the script with Automator to change the destination for the backup copy. It can be downloaded from  Toad's Cellar.

  • Ftp setting on Iweb say I'm connected to server but my site won't load

I have a new server to replace the mac service . All imformation in publishing panel is correct . I am told I'm connected when I use the test button but my site will not load to server . Any ideas ?

One thing that can cause publishing problems is spaces or special characters in file names - especially image file names.
Until you get the problem with the iWeb FTP resolved you can always upload the local folder with an FTP app...

  • IWeb opens but there is no project window

I use iWeb extensively and have never had this issue before. iWeb opens and shows all the menu items but no project window.
I used Time Machine to restore an older version of my iWeb Pages folder, didn't work.
I used this help discussion (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2199580?start=0&tstart=0) to fine and rebuild the iWeb domain or package folder. If I remove the old package iWeb creates a new one and will open an empty project window. Partial sucess, but if I replce the contetns with my old package contents it again won't open the projects and there is no project window.
I can't beleive I never noticed iWeb has no way of opening an exsitng project!
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I REALLY don't want to have to re build my sites from scratch.
    I'm on iWeb '08 2.0.4 and Mac OSX 10.8.5.
    Thanks,
    David

Well yes, iWeb can open an existing project, but it does have to be your domain.sites file and not a published version of your website because iWeb has no import facility so cannot open html and css.
Find the correct iWeb data file and iWeb will most certainly open it and this can be found under your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites.
Your a probably having problems because you are using iWeb 08 with Mountain Lion and iWeb 08 has been reported as having bugs and not working with Mountain Lion.  If you want to continue using iWeb, then you will probably need to upgrade it to iWeb 09.  Unfortuntately, the only way that you can get iWeb 09 now is to buy it from Amazon.  Get either the iLife 09 or iLife 11 boxed set and both of these contain iWeb 09.
iWeb 09 works with Mountain Lion and you can also have separate domain.sites files which you cannot in iWeb 08.  In iWeb 09 you can also use direct publishing rather than publishing to a folder.
Try upgrading to iWeb 09 if you want to continue using it with Mountain Lion or your other alternative if you don't want to buy iWeb 09 is to continue to use iWeb 08, but use it on a Mac still running Snow Leopard with which it works.

  • Firefox 'opens' but doesn't/won't open an actual browser window?

Firefox Beta 4 has crashed out on me several times, but since the most recent crash Firefox will 'open,' but doesn't actually open a new browser window. Even if I go to the menu and manually select "new window" it doesn't do so. Nor can I submit comments under the "Firefox Makes Me Happy/Sad because..." tabs. It's simply not opening new windows. When I go to the force-quit window, it doesn't show up as hanging, however. Two close outs of Firefox, and two restarts of the computer have not resolved the issue.
Most recent attempt to generate a new browser window generated the following error codes:
    Error: no element found

Try running Firefox in [[Safe Mode]]. If it functions properly in that configuration, one of your add-ons is the culprit.

  • IWeb is open but my blog won't come up

This has been happening for a few days now. Whenever I open iWeb, it is open, in fact it has the big red 1 on it, meaning something new has happened to my blog, but my blog is nowhere to be found! I've tried quitting and restarting, restarting the whole computer, nothing works. Any ideas on what's going on?

  • IWeb open but does not open file

My site files for iWeb can not be found by the application. When working with, it suddenly shut and upon restart, it did not fine the files. Where is the file located and how can it be relinked?

The file that iWeb uses is named Domain.sites2 and is located by default in your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.
If the file is there double click on it to see if it will open.

  • Firefox won't open, but also apparently won't close, and so won't uninstall--help!

I'm using Windows XP, need to use Firefox as browser for work. I clicked on the icon which doesn't open, tried to run it in safe mode, no go. Can't bring it up, can't remove it through the control panel add or delete programs option. Can't uninstall it: setup message advises to close Firefox, but I can't see where it might be open. Can't download a more recent version, because I get the same message about closing open Firefox windows. please help.
    This has been consistent.

    Do a clean (re)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy from http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html and save the file to the desktop.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Firefox Profile Folder] (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Just installed iWeb '08, but my sites are all gone?

I think is happening alot here? I have several sites that tooks weeks to build for my home businesses on iweb. I bought iLife'08 since I thought it would be good to have a few more iWeb templates to choose from. I installed and now all my sites are missing? Please, please, please don't tell me they are gone. I will literally smash my macbook pro and go back to working a 9-5 job again if my business websites are gone. I thought iWeb '08 would just be an update to the one I had been using all along??
Thanks for your prompt response (I hope its a good one!)
    Jason

Thanks for your help and posts.
What I absolutely am frustrated with (enough to even go back to my old PC lifestyle) is that I thought iWeb '08 was an upgrade, much like what they did with iPhoto '08. Why did the other programs in iLife '08 update all the others, but iWeb wiped out my old websites?! I only wish there was a real answer. I guess I will have to pay another $3850 to have my sites rebuilt. Thanks for nothing Apple, I was dedicated and spent thousands on your products until now. I really don't have the money to reinvest in my website re-creation so I guess they will sit stagnant and my subscriber base will fall with time.

  • Hi when i have been using iWeb for the whole week and all of a sudden i wanted to open iWeb but nothing came up? the tab at the top says that iWeb is open but i have no image i can't edit or do anything to my web site i just see my background. please help

    Hi
Iweb Wont open on my desktop. in the tab it shows that it is open but i cant see the iweb page?
    thanks

    Try the following:
delete the iWeb preference files, com.apple.iWeb.plist and com.apple.iWeb.plist.lockfile, that resides in your Home() /Library/Preferences folder.
go to your Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete its contents.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If that doesn't help continue with:
move the domain file from your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
launch iWeb, create a new test site, save the new domain file and close iWeb.
go to the your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
    launch iWeb and try again.
If Roddy's suggestions fail to help continue with this:
1 - open iPhoto and select a couple of photos.
2 - use the Share ➙ iWeb ➙ Photo page menu option.
Give it a couple of tries if the first one doesn't help.

  • IWeb 1.1.1. Sites Won't Open in iWeb 3.0.1

Can't seem to find an answer in this Forum to my problem. After transferring my Domains.sites file from iWeb 1.1.1 (Library/App Support) from my OS 10.4.11 Mac Mini to my Leopard Mini (10.5.8) iWeb 3.0.1 App Support location only the Domains.Sites2 files show up when I open iWeb 3.0.1. Both Domain site files now are located in the '09 iWeb App Support folder but why do the older Domain.sites files not show up in my iWeb 3.0.1 Site Organizer column? The older Domains' file shows the correct size based on all the Sites it contains but does not open when clicked (creates 'backup' when double-clicked). Any help you can offer as to how to actually import my iWeb 1.1.1 Domain files into iWeb 3.0.1 for editing and republishing would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you!

Move all of the domain files out of your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to a folder on the Desktop and then copy the iWeb 1 domain file back to the iWeb folder. Then try the following:
    1 - close iWeb.
2 - delete the iWeb preference file, com.apple.iWeb.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder.
3 - go to your User/Library/Caches/com.apple.iWeb folder and delete the contents.
    4 - reboot.
5 - launch iWeb and see if there's any improvement.
    If that doesn't help continue:
6 - move the domain file from your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder to the Desktop.
7 - launch iWeb, create a new test site and save.
8 - go to the your User/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and delete the new domain file.
9 - move your original domain file from the Desktop to the iWeb folder.
10 - launch iWeb and try again.
Lastly try Koeklin's fix from his post in this topic: Topic : can't open a domain.sites.2
Once you get the domain file functioning you can merge it with any of the other domain files into a new 3rd domain file with iWebSites.

    Hi,
If Safari has just crashed, press the Report button on the CrashReporter dialog box to view the crash  information.
Now copy/paste the entire contents of the Crash Reporter window into your reply here. If the crash report dialog does not appear or the crash is hard to reproduce, crash logs can be retrieved from the ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter> folder.

  • Iweb won't open all my sites after migrating over to macbook

    Hi again
So i migrated all my files and apps from my imac to my new macbook pro so that now i can do work on my movies and websites while away from the desktop.
I have several sites which I've renamed to identify them and i put the iweb folder into the dock and can choose which site to work on from there. Works perfectly ... on the imac. (I publish the sites to an external drive)
Today I opened iweb the first time on my macbook pro by clicking on one site in the iweb folder in the dock. It opened fine and i made my updates perfectly, then i closed iweb.
I clicked on a second site  in the dock folder to update it and iweb opened .... but it opened the first site ag: i closed iweb and tried a different site: the same thing happened.
So i went to the root iweb folder to select the second site and 'open with...' but the first site opened again.
I went back to the imac, and everything is fine ... so i copied the two sites to a jumpdrive to transfer to the macbook again, but still the same problem: the only iweb site that opens is the first site i worked on.
This is a problem, because i wanted the macbook so i can work on these jobs anywhere, not just on my imac (which is becoming inconvenient).
    How can i solve this?
what else can i do to open these sites? is there a workaround?
    Help !!!
    Thank you
    Elizabeth

In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or Mountain Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.
